The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America installed its first openly transgender bishop in a service held in San Francisco's Grace Cathedral on Saturday. The Rev. Megan Rohrer will lead one of the church's 65 synods, overseeing nearly 200 congregations in Northern California and northern Nevada. 'My call is ... to be up to the same messy, loving things I was up to before,' Rohrer told worshippers. 'But mostly, if you'll let me, and I think you will, my hope is to love you and beyond that, to love what you love.' Rohrer was elected in May to serve a six-year term as bishop of the Sierra Pacific Synod after its current bishop announced his retirement. 'I step into this role because a diverse community of Lutherans in Northern California and Nevada prayerfully and thoughtfully voted to do a historic thing,' Rohrer said in a statement. 'My installation will celebrate all that is possible when we trust God to shepherd us forward.' Rohrer, who uses the pronoun 'they,' previously served as pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in San Francisco and a chaplain coordinator for the city's police department, and also helped minister to the city's homeless and LGTBQ community. They studied religion at Augustana University in their hometown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, before moving to California to pursue master and doctoral degrees at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley. Rohrer became one of seven LGBTQ pastors accepted by the progressive Evangelical Lutheran church in 2010 after it allowed ordination of pastors in same-sex relationships. Rohrer is married and has two children. The church is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States with about 3.3 million members. Godwin Ajala is remembered as a U.S. national hero who fought to save the lives of countless people as they escaped from the World Trade Center Towers on September 11, 2001. He is also the only Nigerian listed among the nearly 3,000 people who died because of the attack. Ajala was born in Nigeria on June 9, 1968, the son of a retailer from Ihenta, a small town in the eastern Nigerian state of Ebonyi. At the time his region was part of the break-away Biafra which was in rebellion against the central Nigerian government. Ajala came of age long after the Nigerian Civil War ended and Nigeria was reunited. As an adult, Ajala became a lawyer in Nigeria. His family, including his wife, Victoria, and their three children, Onyinyechi, 7, Uchechukwu, 5, and Ugochi, 1, lived in Ihenta. In 1995, Ajala emigrated to the United States to make a better life for himself and his family. When he first arrived in the U.S Ajala bounced between poorly paid jobs but eventually obtained a steady position as a security guard or Access Control Officer at the New York World Trade Center towers at the Concourse (ground floor) level. In this position, Ajala rode elevators and walked floors of the 110-story tower at Two World Trade Center, helping secure the building and attending to small emergencies. Ajala worked in this position while preparing to take the New York State Bar Exam with plans to reunite his family in the U.S. once he had passed the exam. Friends described him as working from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. as a security guard and then coming home to study for another 6 to 8 hours every day. Despite his efforts, Ajala never achieved his goals of becoming a lawyer in the United States and bringing his family to the U.S. Nor do we know if he would have ever been able to achieve these goals since, having little money, he was unable to attend law school in the U.S., and instead took more affordable specialized prep courses for the New York Bar Exam. He failed the exam three times. Yet on the day of September 11, 2001, Ajala demonstrated his self-sacrificing character when, instead of running to save his own life, he helped to evacuate thousands of people from a street-level security post inside the lobby of Two World Trade Center when the second plane hit the building. He held the door open for people running out, and repeatedly went back inside to guide more people out of the blazing structure. Exhausted after helping to guide many out of the attacked building, Ajala reportedly first went into a coma and died the following Sunday. Ajala died at age 33, one of 11 security guards among the nearly 3,000 people who were killed at the World Trade Center. Former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani issued a statement Wednesday apologizing to Afghans for fleeing Kabul on the day the Taliban entered the capital city, calling it "the most difficult decision" of his life. Why it matters: Ghani's decision to flee Kabul and seek asylum in the United Arab Emirates on Aug. 15 precipitated the collapse of the Afghan government. In a White House address the day after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, President Biden criticized Ghani and the Afghan security forces for choosing not to "fight for their country." Ghani was also accused of stealing millions of dollars worth of public money as he fled Kabul, allegations he has vigorously denied. He said Wednesday that he and his top aides would submit to an independent investigation or audit to prove his innocence. The big picture: Ghani's statement — his most extensive public remarks since the fall of Kabul — comes one day after the Taliban announced the formation of an acting government that features top loyalists and several internationally sanctioned terrorists. What they're saying: "I owe the Afghan people an explanation for leaving Kabul abruptly on August 15th after Taliban unexpectedly entered the city. I left at the urging of the palace security who advised me that to remain risked setting off the same horrific street-to-street fighting the city had suffered during the Civil War of the 1990s," Ghani said. "Leaving Kabul was the most difficult decision of my life, but I believed it was the only way to keep the guns silent and save Kabul and her 6 million citizens," he added. "Now is not the moment for a long assessment of the events leading up to my departure — I will address them in detail in the near future. But I must now address baseless allegations that as I left Kabul I took with my millions of dollars belonging to the Afghan people. These charges are completely and categorically false." "Corruption is a plague that has crippled our country for decades and fighting corruption has been a central focus of my efforts as president. I inherited a monster that could not easily or quickly be defeated." The bottom line: "It is with deep and profound regret that my own chapter ended in similar tragedy to my predecessors — without ensuring stability and prosperity. I apologize to the Afghan people that I could not make it end differently," Ghani concluded. "My commitment to the Afghan people has never wavered and will guide me for the rest of my life." How Corruption Affects Healthcare At The National Hospital Abuja Patient-staff bribery and payment to private accounts are common practices at the National Hospital Abuja. By NATHANIEL BIVAN Mukhtar Sani’s brother, Yunusa, had descended the ladder after a plumbing fix, when he looked up and noticed that the job was not perfect. So, he climbed the ladder again. This was when he slipped and fell, the impact causing damage around his neck and back. What happened to him afterwards could never have been imagined in a government owned hospital, and it led to his death. was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, where he was attended to and was soon referred to the National Hospital Abuja (NHA) due to the complicated nature of the surgery he required. The Interim Invoice issued to Sani, and obtained by HumAngle, showed his brother’s medication history. The cost of his treatment, which included an x-ray, amounted to N175,780. The invoice also indicated that his brother had been in the hospital for four days, from Feb. 6, 2020, by 10:06 p.m. until his death on Feb. 9, 2020. He was registered as patient 660461 and stayed both in the old ward of the National Hospital and the new ward. They had a challenge with raising N500,000 within the shortest possible time for the surgery he required. Fortunately, Yunusa’s boss was able to provide the money. Sani then approached one of the doctors with the intention to pay for the surgery. To his surprise, he was given the account details of one of the doctors. “I refused and asked for evidence that I was sending to the hospital account,” Sani explained. “I said I wasn’t going to send it to an organisation I didn’t know.” Previous payments made, according to the Interim Invoice HumAngle consulted, revealed that for every service/drug prescription given to the patient, a section in the document listed the names of those who billed the patient, including two receipt details for a total number of 27 different services and drugs provided. So, when it came to payment for surgery, Sani did not send the money to the private account given to him. His refusal to do as others did cost his brother, Yunusa, his life. He died while awaiting surgery, leaving a wife and three children. But they found a convenient excuse for his death. “They told us that they knew he wouldn’t survive, that was why they didn’t do the surgery,” Sani said. “I’m still fighting to get his death certificate because we have gotten some kind of sponsorship for his children’s education.” “I wrote an application to the medical director, but I still haven’t been given. In fact, they were unable to find his file in the entire hospital, so it’s even impossible to get hold of the record that will make it possible for me to get the death certificate. I took the file number and documents of everything we did, but they are unable to find it.” This is just one in several cases of alleged corruption at the NHA. Give a bribe or keep waiting The procedure for booking appointments at the NHA stipulates that: “All bookings are done in the various clinics of the hospital by Health Record Officers on duty. Patients are expected to give their hand card to the Record Officer in charge so that he/she will indicate the day, time and the Doctor to see in the next appointment.” But this procedure is only on paper. Some intermediary staff at the hospital have devised their own rules. Such was the case with Mr and Mrs Yakubu who were patients at the hospital recently. The couple, like Mukhtar Sani’s case, were also referred to NHA in 2020 when their six-year-old son had tonsillitis. “We were given a letter from Nisa Premier Hospital to give to the National Hospital because they had the required equipment for our son’s surgery,” Lucy Yakubu said. At NHA’s pediatric section, a Record Officer (RA) collected their file and shelved it. The husband and wife then waited for over four hours, hoping they would be called in to see the doctor. When the RA returned, the couple asked why they were left waiting for so long. But there was no apology because, according to the RA, “he had a lot of other things to attend to.” Mr Yakubu then reminded the official that their situation was an emergency because their son had not eaten properly for three days and was in pain. But that was still not enough to sway the man. “At that moment some people walked in and he quickly attended to them,” Mr Yakubu claimed, adding that the patient appeared to have bribed the RA. Mr Yakubu’s suspicion was confirmed when he and his wife approached a nurse and she told them that staff at the hospital prefer to attend to those who give them money. “‘If you don’t, they won’t, the nurse told us,” he recalled. Mr Yakubu and his wife returned to Nisa Premier Hospital and relayed the incident to a nurse. She prescribed antibiotics to their son and advised them to take a local approach. “We diluted salt in water and added alum,” Mr Yakubu narrated. “That was what helped our son.” His wife added that when she gave birth at NHA, nurses liked to be given money before they would call a doctor “to attend to us.” Money paid into private accounts A HumAngle reporter visited the Ophthalmology Department of NHA for an eye test with the help of another staff member. When she went in, the doctor was attending to patients so she had to wait. When she was finally called in, he asked a few questions before the tests began. There were two students present and the doctor conducted the test using a machine while simultaneously teaching the students. When they were done, he took down her details and then negotiated a price with the hospital employee that brought her. He wrote down the prescription on a piece of paper and handed it to the HumAngle reporter. This reporter was later issued medicated glasses after payment of over N30,000 was made into the private account of the doctor (name withheld). “There are many acts of corruption to uncover in this hospital,” a staff member who pleaded anonymity told HumAngle. “In some places, you pay directly into the doctor’s private account.” The source also explained that patients are required or expected to pay bribes when consulting doctors who have assistants. These assistants ensure patients give them some money before they have access to a doctor. “Also, a particular female doctor at the hospital who has her own practice has the habit of referring patients to National Hospital. But instead of the patients paying to National Hospital for the use of its facilities, they still pay to her because she ensures that she personally attends to them,” the source revealed. There are reported cases where doctors collude with hospitals to scam Nigerians through a referral kickback scheme, but the former case is different. When HumAngle reached out to Segun Adetola, Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Health, he said he was not the right person to speak to regarding government hospitals in the capital. He directed HumAngle to the Ministry’s Director of Hospital Services, Dr Adebiyi Adebimpe. But Dr Adepimbe asked HumAngle to write to the Minister of Health himself. Meanwhile, the management of the NHA appeared to have received reports of corrupt practices among staff members. Tayo Haastrup, the facility’s Public Relations Officer, said NHA now has an e-payment system “which has really blocked these kinds of loopholes.” Haastrup, who sent his response in text messages, added that the NHA has been running the e-payment system for about three years. A source at the hospital agreed that, indeed, the e-payment system has helped to reduce corruption within the hospital, but added that staff members still find ways to engage in fraudulent practices. This story was produced in partnership with Civic Media Lab under its Grassroots News Project. Source:http://saharareporters.com/2021/09/03/how-corruption-affects-healthcare-national-hospital-abuja

BREAKING: Nigerian Government Orders Telcos To Shut Down Mobile Phone Services In Zamfara As Bandits Take Over State There is suspicion among the residents that they may shut down anytime soon. The Nigerian government has ordered all telecom operators to shut down their networks in Zamfara State. Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission in a letter to all telecom operators on Friday said the action was one of the strategies taken by security operatives in curbing banditry ravaging the state. “The pervading security situation in Zamfara State has necessitated an immediate shutting down of all telecommunications service in the state from today September 03, 2021. “This is to enable relevant security agencies carry out required activities towards addressing the security challenge in the state, in line with the requirement, Globacom is hereby directed to shut down all sites in Zamfara State and any site(s) in neighboring state that could provide telecommunications service in Zamfara State. “The site shutdown is for two weeks (September 03 - 17, 2021) in the first instance. Your urgent action in this regard is required,” a copy of the letter sent to Globacom Nigeria reads. However, checks by SaharaReporters showed that all the major networks were still working as at 11pm on Friday, except Airtel that was off in some areas. There is suspicion among the residents that they may shut down anytime soon. The Zamfara State Government had last Friday also announced some new measures aimed at tackling the growing activities of bandits in the state. These included the restriction of fuel sales to the state capital and the headquarters of the local government areas and suspension of all weekly markets across the state. Similarly, the government suspended the transportation of livestock to and from the state, saying the transportation of food across the state and outside Zamfara must be verified. It stressed that the destination of the food must be authenticated otherwise, it would be seized and taken to the orphanage. The new rules further include the banning of riding on motorcycles and tricycles from 6pm to 6am in the state, except the state capital which starts from 8pm to 6am every day. “Furthermore, any tricycle that is covered will be stopped to verify its passengers, otherwise will be apprehended,” the statement read. “Governor Matawalle reiterated the ban on more than two persons riding a motorcycle and warned that those who break the law stand the risk of being shot at by security operatives.” The government urged the people of the state to comply with the measures to avoid unfortunate incidents, saying security operatives would be empowered to treat offenders as suspected bandits. See what we predicted. Taliban is new US secret ally! Listen to the General, not the politician. General Mark Milley Says ‘It’s Possible’ U.S. Will Work with Taliban on Future Missions Against ISIS-K General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that it is “possible” the U.S. will coordinate with the Taliban to carry out future counterterrorism operations against ISIS-K in Afghanistan at a Pentagon briefing on Wednesday. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin sounded less sure. While Austin acknowledged that the U.S. had worked with the Taliban to evacuate American citizens and Afghans, he noted that that coordination was “on a very narrow set of issues and it was just to get as many people out as we possibly could.” “I would not make any leaps of logic to broader issues,” he said. Milley then stepped in to say of the Taliban, “I can tell you from personal experience that this is a ruthless group from the past and whether or not they change remains to be seen and as far as our dealing with them at that airfield or in the past year or so — in war you do what you must in order to reduce risk to mission and force, not necessarily what you want to do.” Austin promised that the U.S. would hold ISIS-K responsible for the suicide bombing at Hamid Karzai International airport last week, telling the press that “we’re going to do everything that we can to make sure we remain focused on ISIS-K, understand that network, and at the time of our choosing in the future hold them accountable for what they’ve done.” The attack killed 13 U.S. troops and at least 169 Afghans who were gathered outside the airport’s Abbey Gate last Thursday. It made for the deadliest single day for American troops in the war since 2011. Source:https://www.yahoo.com/news/general-mark-milley-says-possible-184555558.html

wildikeman:No disrespect to you sir, but it's this gullibility that politicians worldwide use to trick the population. Was Trump not President for 4 years? Did the Taliban during that time not kill hundreds of US soldiers including an ambush last year at the same time he was inviting them to Camp David ( America's sacred Presidential vacation home) for a peace meeting. Camp David o!;the uproar was so much, the venue was quickly changed. What did Trump do, he got angry, shouted and still went ahead to do the peace meeting and get their leader released from jail! |
Guardiola84:Death is a sad occurrence; even God is moved by human death! The woman is speaking out of pain; but also causing pain to others. So you who do we blame for the other 2000+ who died since 2001 in Afghanistan? Serving in the military is voluntary and it carries the risk of death. She is dishonoring the memory and life of her son. |
juman:The whole world ( EU, Arabs, Scientists etc) wanted that agreement except Trump and the former Israeli Prime minister |
juman:Whether Biden or Trump or Obama. US policy remains no matter whose President. One President just might not enforce it like another e.g. Trump and Russia. |
ruggedtimi:Humans sometimes learn from history. Besides Osama was once a US boy. Infact he was US trained. |
Lagosfinder:It was the ones at the Airport under US control that were dis abled. The equipment under the 350,000 man Afghanistan army and Air Force were not destroyed. They simply handed them over to the Taliban. Two things to note: 1) It takes brains to win wars. Weapons are useless without brains 2) Taliban has learnt it's lesson. It wants to remain in power for 100 years or more. It's stylishly and secretly working with the US now and will be a weapon against Iran and anti US Forces. It's past alliance with anti US Forces like Al Qeda did not pay it. Thus their enemity with ISIS. |

BREAKING: Retired Navy Commodore Kunle Olawunmi Arrives Defence Intelligence Agency After Being Declared Wanted Over Channels TV's Anti-Buhari Interview A top source told SaharaReporters that the former Navy commander arrived at the agency's office in company with his lawyers - Femi Falana (SAN) and Abubakar Marshall - on Tuesday. SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKAUG 31, 2021 Retired Nigerian Navy Commodore, Kunle Olawunmi, has arrived at the Military Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), Abuja a few days after he was declared wanted by the agency. A top source told SaharaReporters that the former Navy commander arrived at the agency's office in company with his lawyers - Femi Falana (SAN) and Abubakar Marshall - on Tuesday. “Navy Commodore Kunle Olawunmi has arrived at the military DIA in Abuja. He was accompanied by his lawyers,” the source told SaharaReporters. “They initially declared him wanted but downgraded it when the plot was leaked.” SaharaReporters recalls that the Defence Intelligence Agency had declared Olawunmi wanted for exposing in an interview how President Muhammadu Buhari's administration refused to probe high profile politicians whom Boko Haram terrorists named as their sponsors. The DIA had asked Olawunmi to come to its headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday with his international passport, which may be seized. The agency, however, made a U-turn when the plot was exposed. The Defence Intelligence Agency is the primary military intelligence agency of Nigeria. A top source had said at the time, “The agency has declared retired Navy Commodore Kunle Olawunmi wanted for spilling the beans over Boko Haram sponsors in the Buhari regime. They asked him to come with his international passport on Tuesday to the DIA office in Abuja.” SaharaReporters had last Wednesday reported what Olawunmi said when he featured on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ breakfast programme. He had condemned the attack by bloodthirsty bandits on the Kaduna campus of Nigeria’s foremost military university, the Nigerian Defence Academy, where two military officers were killed and another kidnapped. The Professor of Global Security Studies had said, “It is an aberration; you don’t attack the Nigerian Defence Academy and get away with it. In 2017, I carried out an investigation by the Minister of Defence that wanted me to check what was going on with the training and the security there (NDA). I remember I spent about a week in the NDA with the commandant and the staff but something struck me: every Friday, the gate of NDA is thrown open and everybody has access to pray in the mosque. “On Fridays, you are going to see the same thing happening across all military formations in the country. If you go to Defence Headquarters, I served at the Defence Headquarters as the Deputy Director, Defence Administration, between 2015 and 2017, throughout my two years at Defence Headquarters, I received visitors twice because of the strict security architecture there but every Friday, the gate of the Defence Headquarters is thrown wide open for everybody to come in and observe Juma’at. “That is the time the terrorists have the time to profile our security environment. It has always been the case. I have served the military intelligence for the past 35 years. Our problem is religion and socio-cultural.” Olawunmi had added that he was a member of the Intelligence Brief at the Defence Headquarters during the leadership of the then Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin (retd.). The intelligence expert said he told the then CDS that the centre of gravity of the Boko Haram insurgency ravaging the North-East and spreading to other parts of Nigeria was the sponsor. “I told General Olonisakin then that the centre of this problem cannot be solved the same way we solved the problem of the Niger Delta. The Niger Delta problem was solved during (Ex-President Umaru) Yar’Adua basically by me and I told them that we can’t use that same template for Boko Haram. “I told General Olonisakin to look at the centre of gravity of the problem. I was made a member of the committee in 2016-2017 including former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru that died. “I told them that the centre of gravity of Boko Haram in Nigeria is the sponsors of the programme. It was beyond us because the job we needed to do was kinetic but we cannot resolve the issues of sponsors of Boko Haram that were in Buhari’s government that we know them. That was why we couldn’t pursue that aspect that could have resolved the issue because we need to arrest people. “Recently, 400 people were gathered as sponsors of Boko Haram, why is it that the Buhari government has refused to try them? Why can’t this government bring them to trial if not that they are partisan and part of the charade that is going on? “You remember this Boko Haram issue started in 2012 and I was in the military intelligence at that time. We arrested those people. My organisation conducted interrogation and they (suspects) mentioned names. I can’t come on air and start mentioning names of people that are presently in government that I know that the boys that we arrested mentioned. Some of them are governors now, some of them are in the Senate, some of them are in Aso Rock. “Why should a government decide to cause this kind of embarrassment and insecurity to the sense of what happened yesterday (Tuesday at the NDA)?” Olawunmi had also said that the Department of State Services had tremendous information on terrorists but they could not do anything except by the body language of the Commander-In-Chief. Afghanistan was a situation where no matter what happened, it would be chaos. America had no business being in Afghanistan and should have pulled out 20 years ago. It was a pointless exercise. America's greatest enemy is not ISIS, China, Russia; it's Americans who put politics and party above their nation. The withdrawal was agreed upon by Trump and Republicans who negotiated with the Taliban and even brought them to a meeting in America that was cancelled after an uproar. Biden and the Democrats honored that agreement. The pull out was messy and might have been a bit better; but who knows. |
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Taliban said that a U.S. airstrike targeted a suicide bomber in a vehicle Sunday who wanted to attack the Kabul international airport amid the American military’s evacuation there. There were few initial details about the incident, as well as a rocket that struck a neighborhood just northwest of the airport, killing a child. The two strikes initially appeared to be separate incidents, though information on both remained scarce. The attack comes as the United States winds down a historic airlift that saw tens of thousands evacuated from Kabul’s international airport, the scene of much of the chaos that engulfed the Afghan capital since the Taliban took over two weeks ago. After an Islamic State affiliate’s suicide attack that killed over 180 people, the Taliban increased its security around the airfield as Britain ended its evacuation flights Saturday. U.S. military cargo planes continued their runs into the airport Sunday, ahead of a Tuesday deadline earlier set by President Joe Biden to withdraw all troops from America’s longest war. However, Afghans remaining behind in the country worry about the Taliban reverting to their earlier oppressive rule — something fueled by the recent shooting death of a folk singer in the country by the insurgents. Zabihullah Mujahid said in a message to journalists that the strike targeted the bomber as he drove a vehicle loaded with explosives. Mujahid offered few other details. U.S. military officials could not be immediately reached for comment. The rocket attack meanwhile struck Kabul’s Khuwja Bughra neighborhood, said Rashid, the Kabul police chief who goes by one name. Video obtained by The Associated Press in the aftermath of the attack showed smoke rising from building at the site around a kilometer (half a mile) from the airport. No group immediately claimed the attack, however militants have fired rockets in the past. Meanwhile, the family of a folk singer north of Kabul say the Taliban killed him. The shooting of Fawad Andarabi came in the Andarabi Valley for which he was named, an area of Baghlan province some 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of Kabul. The valley had seen upheaval since the Taliban takeover, with some districts in the area coming under the control of militia fighters opposed to the Taliban rule. The Taliban say they have since retaken those areas, though neighboring Panjshir in the Hindu Kush mountains remains the only one of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces not under its control. The Taliban previously came out to Andarabi’s home and searched it, even drinking tea with the musician, his son Jawad Andarabi told the AP. But something changed Friday. “He was innocent, a singer who only was entertaining people,” his son said. “They shot him in the head on the farm.” His son said he wanted justice and that a local Taliban council promised to punish his father’s killer. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told the AP that the insurgents would investigate the incident, but had no other details on the killing. Andarabi played the ghichak, a bowed lute, and sang traditional songs about his birthplace, his people and Afghanistan as a whole. A video online showed him at one performance, sitting on a rug with the mountains of home surrounding him as he sang. There is no country in the world like my homeland, a proud nation,” he sang. “Our beautiful valley, our great-grandparents’ homeland.” Karima Bennoune, the United Nations special rapporteur on cultural rights, wrote on Twitter that she had “grave concern” over Andarabi’s killing. “We call on governments to demand the Taliban respect the #humanrights of #artists,” she wrote. Agnes Callamard, the secretary-general of Amnesty International, similarly decried the killing. “There is mounting evidence that the Taliban of 2021 is the same as the intolerant, violent, repressive Taliban of 2001,” she wrote on Twitter. “20 years later. Nothing has changed on that front.” Meanwhile on Sunday, private banks across Afghanistan resumed their operations. However, they limited withdrawals to no more than the equivalent of $200 a day. While some complained of still being unable to access their money, government employees say they haven’t been paid over the last four months. The Afghani traded around 90.5 to $1, continuing its depreciation as billions of dollars in the country’s reserves remain frozen overseas. ___ Akhgar reported from Istanbul, Gambrell from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Reason I stood behind Chief MKO Abiola on this day in 1993 The real story: Inside his expansive living room on Toyin Street in Ikeja, we were ushered into a gathering of politicians holding a “strategy session” to ask MKO Abiola to tone down his challenge against General Ibrahim Babangida and his military cohorts after they annulled Nigeria’s freest election held on June 12 1993. I was obviously the “poorest” person in the room on that fateful day (I had on bathroom slippers). It was my first time meeting Chief Abiola in person but he recognised me and said “oh Student leader, welcome to our meeting what should we do now as my friends have annulled the People’s mandate.? I quickly took the opportunity to lambast the politicians seated. I told Chief Abiola his real enemies are right there in the room with him and that they just busy collecting his money but not fighting forbthe restoration of his mandate. Chief Abiola was uncomfortable and tried changing the topic by praising my organising efforts in fighting for the restoration of his June 12 mandate. He quickly dragged a massive bag containing cash and proceeded to give our team N800k saying it was a token for our “transportation.” I politely rejected the cash haul telling him, jocularly, that first we didn’t come to visit him in a jumbo jet so the issue of a jumbo transportation fund won’t arise, in fact I doubt that the SUG bus we took there was worth N300k in those days, I was firm im telling him our struggle wasn’t for his sake and that our fight was not for him but the future of Nigeria. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) did not even believe in Babangida’s transition program but our position regarding democratic rule though was sacrosanct hence our position on the criminal annulment of the June 12 elections. Having done my little damage to the greedy politicians in Abiola’s living room (don’t forget so many of them were clutching to cash hauls collected from Abiola right there) our team decided to leave but something rare happened, Chief Anthony Enahoro who was also in attendance angrily got up and told Chief Abiola he..... Nigerians Need To Unite Stop The Evil. The Evil Doers Don't Differentiate Between Tribe Nor Religion When you discuss with many Nigerians, they have this belief that the bad security situation in the country is about the Fulani tribe supported by the Buhari government killing and causing mayhem for southerners and Christians. Also every incident is linked to that. Yet time after time, incident after incident these people ignore any alternative evidence. Yes there are evil Fulani militants otherwise known as herdsmen whose clear intention is to claim land belonging to non Fulani tribes and cause havoc. What is happening in Southern Kaduna is clearly ethnic and religious in nature perputated by Fulani militants. But there are also criminal gangs aka bandits aka kidnappers aka armed robbers who don't care what tribe or religion you are; they want to make anyone they can lay hands on a victim. Tens of thousands of Northern Muslims have been killed by these marauding criminals. Just last month a Muslim Emir in the North gave all Fulani herdsmen 30 days to vacate the State. He clearly identified them AS FULANI HERDSMEN. These Muslim Fulani were killing, raping and robbing Northern Muslims. We dare say the Northern Muslims have suffered as much if not more than others. Yesterday, the Bandits struck at an educational institution in Zamfara killing 4 students and kidnapping others; ALL MUSLIMS. And today they struck again at an Islamic School in the same State! Below is from Premium Times According to the list seen by this reporter, the students kidnapped are Isma’il Lawali, Salim Salisu, Kabiru Lawali, Yasir Lawali, Awaisu Jabir, Aminu Umar, Abba Aliyu, Aminu Adamu, Usman Umar and Umar Haruna. Others are Usama Lukman, Abdurahman Lukman, Junaidu Yunusa, Abdullahi Bala and Jamilu Kwatarkwashi. Staff abducted are Mustapha Abdullahi Mafara, Nusaiba Gambo, Hannatu Gambo and Hibbatu Gambo. Those who lost their lives include Sani Mohammed Mafara, Lawali Sani Jatau and Police Inspector Hamza. They were gatemen. Evil knows no tribe, nor religion, nor gender, no race. Good people, noble people need to come together to stop this mayhem!. If it happened to one, it can happen to any. Source:https://v7place.com/index.php?topic=4297.0
