ShymmexLion: I just checked his wiki page and you're right. He's Benin.Lool don't gas me up! Thank you ![]() |
There are certain passwords I wouldn't mind sharing, and others I think would be inappropriate for anyone else to know but me. All in all, if there's trust in a relationship, I see no reason as to why you'd want your partner's password in the first place |
ShymmexLion: The name "Uwaifo" sounds Igbo, though. Perhaps, he's Igbanke.Lool good man you know about these tunes! Nah I don think he's Igbanke I think he's pure Bini, I could be wrong though |
ShymmexLion: I hear that. No beef - just thought you need to give Ghanaians some credit. Anyway, can you post videos of Igbo highlife? I don't really know much about that genre of music except Prince Nico Mbarga's "Sweet Mother" and the "Osendi Owendi" tune. I don't know if Sir Victor Uwaifo is highlife, but my pops used to play his music a lot when I was growing up.Victor Uwaifo is Edo/Bini highlife |
I think some of the variations in skin colour from certain pictures posted are to do with the lighting of the picture not bleaching, for instance Osita Iheme's picture. |
abdulkayus: my guy, u lied. U can never found baby factory in d north. Dey dont even knw abt dat.False |
If this is true then they both need to get their heads checked!! ![]() |
shymexx: ^^^Lmao... I was just messing about with the "commonwealth" thing - they're a different ethnic group now, and they should be respected for that... However, I just want the best for them because some of them might be from my extended bloodline....Proper Yoruba face you know! Loool literally everyone I meet thinks I'm Ghanaian! ![]() |
Oh wow that's really interesting...you learn something new everyday. Well since some of them still maintain their Ijebu ancestry, I guess I can allow you to add them to the "Ijebu commonwealth" then lol ![]() |
shymexx: Interesting post, Valena...This might be quite controversial but I read somewhere that the scramble for Warri has something to do with Obafemi Awolowo. Though both groups claim to have founded Warri (Itsekiri and Urhobo), the Olu of Itsekiri didn't move in there until the 1950s, when Awolowo established an Itsekiri communal land trust over Warri and changed the Olu's title from the Olu of Itsekiri to the Olu of Warri, much to the displeasure of the Urhobos. They challenged this in court and apparently have been arguing about it till this day. I can't remember where I read this but I'm gonna try find it again.... As for the Itsekiris being added to Edo state I personally don't think that's a good idea as it might probably cause ethnic tensions. I'm going to keep my opinion on this limited before I start getting attacked by the political and cultural Nazis on this forum lol. Itsekiris who still keep their Ijebu lineage? Interesting. Never heard of that...enlighten me and no I'm not Itsekiri...I'm actually Yoruba but have a very strong interest in west African history ![]() |
shymexx: How do you mean??Yh I clocked you were joking lol . The Yoruba have had significant influences on the culture and the traditions of the Itsekiri especially the ijebu as you rightly said, but they have also been significantly influenced by other groups such as the Urhobo, Igala, Edo and Ijaw. They've all left a mark on the Itsekiri but due to the proximity of the Urhobos to the Itsekiris for centuries and their many inter-tribal marriages, I would say they're more culturally linked to the Urhobos. As for the olukun deity worship you mentioned, it's probably just one of the lesser influences the Yoruba had on them since it's not full Ifa worship. |
shymexx: Itsekiris are most Ijebus, they belong to our commonwealth...Linguistically yes, culturally no. |
[quote author=pazienza Like someone already said, yoruba culture appears dominant in latin america, cos they were the later group to arrive there,by which time the europeans had slowed down on their earlier anti-african religion and culture stance, which the earlier ethnic groups were subjected under, leading to loss of their culture.[/quote]I agree with this. The Yoruba were one of the later groups to be enslaved and the slave masters in latin America were not as brutal/harsh compared to those in north America. This would've allowed the slaves to hold on more to their culture than their counterparts. |
I don't understand why people are so preoccupied with her surname. I have a ghanaian friend who has a yoruba surname because her father is half yoruba and ghanaian and her mother is fully ghanaian. Well done to her though....Ondo girl representing!! ![]() |
Awww how adorable! ![]() |
IYANYA!!! Enough said!! |
Black soap is amazing! I've been using it on my skin now for a couple years and the results are amazing...ose dudu followed by ori (shea butter)results in beautiful and healthy skin! ![]() |
She really needs to work on her style and image. She is very beautiful but her weaves aren't decent, her contacts are a no no and the make up is way too much! |
Well firstly congratulations! Since you're the bride, I would say the majority of the traditional wedding should flow towards the Igbo side. But you could incorporate Yoruba aspects such as the groom prostrating to your parents, the women representing both sides of the family (there's a name for them but I can't remember it lol and one could be Igbo)and when you finally come out to give him the palm wine, you can wear the traditional Igbo attire and put the Yoruba veil on top. Hope this helps. |
Ikwikwikwi: Why do you chose a Yoruba man of all Nigerian men? You better remain single than marry a Yoruba man because he will definitely marry another woman ![]() |
supaeagles: Like seriously, how can you live 'under a cave'?? Maybe rock or stone......ehh-heeeLool! ![]() |
*Deep sigh.* As much as I like Stella, these hair weaves/wigs are just ![]() |
Ewww. I always thought this "Tee-billz" dude was kinda dodgy ![]() |
My ideal man would be a man with purpose; knows what he wants and how to get it, incredibly funny and playful but knows when to be serious, romantic, a man after God's heart, good dress sense and a killer smile! |
