sup guys, well am back from the embassy and dint get the visa, Anyways plan on re-applying bt before then let me jst share the experience

Got to the embassy at 6.40am and as expected the crowd was already there, Anyways here is how the interview went:


Officer: Goodmrng, can i hav ur passport and documents
Me: Goodmrng, here they are

Officer: so why do u wanna go to the US?
Me: to study

Officer: what school will u be attending?
me: UMBC (told him in full though)

officer: so why this school?
me: chose it cos of thr strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and moreover there is serious research work on-going at the school for my preferred major

officer: so when does classes resume?
me: august 31st

officer: have u taken any course related to ur major?
me: yes i have, got some diplomas in computer programming

officer: (requests to see the diplomas) while asking what are the languages i use
me: (handed d docs over)told him, java, c#, VB.net

officer: so if i give u a pen to write down a program code for me, can u do dat?
me: yes i can

officer: (seems busy chatting with another guy behind his back)so who is ur sponsor?
me: my aunt

officer: (face in a quizzled manner)ur aunt?! hw is she related to u?
me: she is my mother's elder sister

officer: can i have any document or evidence stating her intentions?
mehanded over the letter of sponsorship attached with financial statements)here are her documents

officer: (after reading through them) but according to the letter she dint state she will be responsible for tuition, only living expenses
me: she is.this is a copy of d letter that was sent to the school as well

officer: (still talking with same guy, then picks out d denial letter and hands it with my passport)am sorry i wont be able to issue u a visa at this time bt pls go thru the letter to understand y

thats how it went down guys, sure it was denied cos of no 9ja sponsor so fellow applicants be wary of that, comments and suggestions please cos am going back this month to re-apply

As for the second question

well if asked, would tell the counselor that the sole aim for my going to the US is to study for my BSc and not to work there, moreover i hav many obligation towards my family, bin the 1st born must return to take care of them and there are untapped market potential in Nigeria (though dis will be said in summary so as to kip it short and simple)

aroy1, good question, well as for what il tell the consular, i tried getting admission for my course of study here in Nigeria but without success and my parents thought it will be wise to try the US besides i have been taking professional courses as relates to my course major and also been working ever since,

well thats all i got on me, admitted at University of Maryland, Baltimore County(UMBC)

@superbrain, going in for Fall 2010 @ UMBC, all thats left is my visa appointment which holds next month, wasup wit ya?

Thats still the best option of payment since most western union agents in NIgeria dont offer the Quck Pay service and ICE dont accept credit cards from Nigeria, JUst tell the person abroad to mail the cheque with the I-797 form to SEVIS office and the return address should be in Nigeria

@oyewolejos, felt the same way when the documents were sent, the things is, she has 3 different statements, $36000, $28,000 and $16000 respectively for the three statements and my fees frm the school is $23,000 considering that i wont be staying on campus but at her residence which is just a 30mins drive to the school, what do u think about that?

@aroy1, been trying to look up for available sponsors but most don't really have the needed amount in bank statement right here in nigeria, thot of the idea and also making my aunt lyk a co-sponsor but so far no sponsor yet dou my mum runs a primary school so thinking about using the landed properties documents as well
