1D1F: PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO COMMISSIONS CERAMICS TILE FACTORY IN KPONE

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Wednesday, 27th February, 2018, commissioned the Fujian Sentuo Ceramics Company, a ceramic tile manufacturing company operating under the 1-District-1-Factory initiative, located in Kpone, in the Greater Accra Region.

With the company employing some 1,500 employees, and souring 90% of its raw materials from Ghana, mainly from the Central and Western regions, President Akufo-Addo thanked the promoters of the company for taking advantage of the policies rolled out by Government, under the 1-District-1-Factory Policy, in order to make these investments.

Addressing the commissioning ceremony at the premises of the factory, the President indicated that his Government wants to achieve a significant level of industrial development, that is why he commenced, immediately after his assumption of office, a programme of industrial transformation.

“The industrial transformation agenda is anchored on a 10-point plan, confronting the private sector and its ability to spearhead the development of our country. Some of those are the high cost of doing business, lack of access to medium- and long-term financing, poor infrastructure and logistics support for enterprises and commercial activities, inadequate skilled manpower and limited access to technology, innovation and research,” he said.

All of these challenges, the President assured, are being addressed by the policies of government.

He indicated that Government is working hard to “bring down interest rates so that we increase the ability of businesses to fund their activities, while we are putting in place new arrangements for the Agricultural Development Bank and the National Investment Bank, so that it can be more focused on providing the funds for medium- and long-term investments for industrial development.”

In addition to these, President Akufo-Addo noted that, in the course of the last two years, the monetary policy rate of the Bank of Ghana is reducing, and inflation has also come down significantly, adding that “all of these are efforts that we are making to improve the business environment and make it possible for our enterprises in Ghana to be competitive”.

Touching on the cedi, the President stated that “I am extremely upset and anxious about it too, but I want to assure you that all efforts are being made to arrest the decline and restore the cedi to stability, in order to improve the competitiveness of Ghanaian industry. Very soon, we will be seeing the results of our policy.”

He urged residents of the people of Tema Kpong Katamanso “to embrace this factory and the work that is being done here and give the Chinese promoters of the factory the maximum support.”

President Akufo-Addo reiterated that “I am determined in my period in office to make the steps that will bring about structural changes in the manner in which the Ghanaian economy works, so we can have the sustained development and progress that our people are looking for.”

""INDUSTRIALIZATION AGENDA; 1D1F: BIRIM GETS OIL PROCESSING FACTORY

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has inspected works at the Birim Oil Mill, a palm oil processing plant co-opted into Government’s 1-District-1-Factory initiative.

The project, located in the Kade constituency, when in full operation, is expected to employ some 300 people with varied technical skills at the factory, including other unskilled labour.

The factory is also expected to employ some 10,000 workers to work on a 25,000 acre of land to feed the factory whose main products will include laundry soaps, personal wash detergents, refined cooking oil and edible palm oil.

Birim Oil Mills Co. Ltd., according to management, has the capability of expanding its current capacity of 30ton/hr to 60ton/hr, implying that the company has the potential of utilizing the output from 50,000-acre oil palm plantation which can employ about 20,000 people.

Speaking at the inspection, President Akufo-Addo noted that the project will afford existing small holder farmers to increase their cultivation of oil palm, whilst new and prospective commercial farmers would be attracted to undertake plantation development, leading to increased incomes and improved livelihoods for the people in the Kwaebibirem District and its environs.

The Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Alan Kyerematen, who also spoke at the function indicated that Government has approved an Incentive Framework specially designed for the 1D1F designated companies.

The Incentives, which include tax holidays, duty waivers, and interest rate subsidy, are designed to help build the capacities and competitiveness of these enterprises, and to position them for greater productivity and efficiency":

Seriously you are not normal!
Are you arguing that countries don't protect what they produce best or want to be a leading producer of??
To have "free trade" you have to trade in something, that something is your market, probably the backbone of your economy, most likely would be a great employer of labour or a potential employer, it only makes sense you protect such (potential) industry!!!!
probably my last reply to this kind of porous thinking ?

what liberal nation do in protecting local industries is not banning competitive product but raising up tariffs from foreign competitors which has not established agreement of free trade policy.

Protectionism is temporal solution to a long time problem. it probably creates jobs for domestic workers or perhaps raised emergency millionaire but the benefit ends once other countries retaliate by erecting their own protectionism. so such policy is very dangerous in 21st century

and in the long run, trade protectionism weakens the industry. Without competition, companies within the industry have no need to innovate. There's no need to. Eventually, the domestic product will decline in quality. It will be lower quality and more expensive than what foreign competitors produce. that is what buhari is aiming to achieve.

Every country has a list of banned items!
EVERY SINGLE COUNTY IN THE WORLD
You can't import Cuban ciga into Cuba
You can't import Cocoa into Ghana etc

China makes use of non-tariff trade barriers to restrict the number of imports coming into the country. As China is a part of the World Trade Organization, it would be difficult for it to use only blatant tax-based trade barriers. As such, China uses more indirect trade barriers to protect its domestic market.

You can't being KFC chicken into Sweet sensation. I hope this simple description helps?
You are notoriously grasping at straw, and I don't know why you are doing these. it seems to me , you don't even understand your own argument. it is unnecessarily unproductive to import what a nation does better . who in its right head import crude oil to Nigeria. Ghana didn't place banned on cocoa beans stop lying but naturally no one will venture into such trade since it is unproductive to do so. during ivory coast civil unrest, Ghana was the gateway of ivory coast cocoa beans to Europe. Banning product across liberal country aren't meant to be protectionist but on security or sanction purpose. liberal country don't banned product related to trade, they rather work on competitive advantage . trade aren't done blindly .....

To ban imports from China would be to ban participation in the digital economy. There are very few computers, smartphones, and other digital products that aren't made in China.
By dominating the manufacture of electronics, China has made it's exports indespensible.
Banning Chinese products would be an economic death sentence for any country......

You can export as much as you can into China, it just must meet communism standard and regulation, Ghana just identify the place as the next home of its bitter alcoholic beverages. tax system is a soft mechanism to protect local industry not an outright banned to importers. despite the huge tax to invest in banking sector in Nigeria, there is still a lot of foreing banks .

kfc chicken are independent company from sweet sensation. both but of them can work as synergies if their buisness demand it. two of dangote subsidiary are collaborating right now.

in Ghana, two telecommunication company have form a synergy. Airtel and Tigo .... if your works and prospect demand it. it can work and better for two weak company. All telecoms in Ghana allow interoperability on mobile money .

Why dont you ask question instead of argument. it seems to me you don't even understand your own argument. very poor if you ask me.

Osinbajo lays foundation for Ogun railway wagon plant

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo says railways holds the master key to transforming commerce in Nigeria and Africa at large.
He said this during the official ground-breaking ceremony of the Wagon assembly plant in Kajola, Ogun sate, on Saturday.
Osinbajo said the plant, which is a private investment undertaken by CCECC, a Chinese company, is “central in the production of rolling stock spare parts and maintenance equipment needed for the railway modernization programme being implemented by the administration of Muhammadu Buhari.”
He said after its completion, the plant would produce some parts of the wagons for the Lagos–Ibadan and Abuja–Kaduna rail lines.
“This ceremony is not just another event, it is a historic turning point, for us, the railway is not just an alternative and comfortable mode of travel, it holds the master key to transforming commerce in Nigeria and across the continent,” he said.
The train which conveyed Osinbajo from Iju to Kajola
“By linking our ports to rail lines and now, building the rolling stock locally, import and export business within and out of Africa’s largest market will be completely transformed. When completed, it is expected that the plant would produce some parts of the wagons for the Lagos – Ibadan and Abuja – Kaduna rail lines, but also for the central rail lines and to satisfy the needs of other rail operators within the West-African sub-region.”
The vice-president commended CCECC for the investment, adding that the project will provide a platform for obtaining technical knowledge on rails.
He also said the plant will generate 5,000 direct and indirect jobs.
“The plant would offer an important platform for engineers, technicians, artisans and other professionals to gain the specialized skills required for the production and maintenance of rolling stock,” he said.
“This will invariably conduce to spin-off businesses in the region of operation in particular and across the country wherever rail networks are in existence. The plant is expected to generate about five thousand (5,000) direct and indirect jobs.”
Osinbajo said the federal government is optimising the Lagos-Ibadan rail modernisation project by extending it to the Apapa port.
“Also, we are putting all mechanisms in place to achieve the swift completion of the Ibadan Inland Dry port which will off-take containers and cargoes from Apapa port through the Lagos – Ibadan rail line,” he said.
Good development for Nigeria as it bound to ease unemployment ...

But whatever the case , Ghana is already in similar buisness. producing railway sleeper.....that is the video since you like YouTube yourself .

HomeNewsGlobal EuropeDevelopment PolicyEU-Africa free trade agreement ‘destroys’ development policy, says Merkel advisor

By Dario Sarmadi | EURACTIV.de | translated by Erika Körner 07-11-2014 (updated: 10-11-2014 )
Merkel's Africa commissioner criticised the EU's Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with Africa saying it contradicts development aid

...Kenya is among the countries that refused to sign. In response, the EU imposed import tariffs on multiple Kenyan products effective from 1 October. Media has reported that the measure led to numerous layoffs in several African firms.

Under this pressure, Nairobi finally snapped two weeks ago, and added its signature to the trade agreement.

Andrew Mold, the UN’s economic analyst for east Africa, said he sees the African economy as being threatened by the agreement in the long-term.

“The African countries cannot compete with an economy like Germany’s. As a result, free trade and EU imports endanger existing industries, and future industries do not even materialise because they are exposed to competition from the EU,” Mold commented.

Thanks to various foreign trade agreements, Europe’s former colonies have enjoyed preferential access to the European market for many decades. In turn, they barely had to open their own markets.

But the World Trade Organization (WTO) declared this one-sided market opening unlawful in 2000. In response, the EU concluded the Cotonou Agreement in 2007 with 79 African countries (AKP countries). Since then, Europeans have been in negotiations with Africans over the corresponding free trade agreements.
But according to Green MEP Ska Keller, the EPA hurts regional trade, and does not leave partner countries any room to develop their own industries, create jobs and thereby pull people out of poverty. “Developing countries have a gun pointed at their chest – either they sign or their market access to the EU is restricted,” Keller said, “the EPA is the opposite of development cooperation.”
