Iamgrey5:This is 21st century, no developed country talks about agriculture capacity anymore , every nation that deem to developed are now directing thier energy on industrialization capacity. What you need in developing agricture is not about large pool of labour but skilful pool of labour who will be augmenting their work with technology. A million of unskillful farmer will end up producing stony rice as it is recorded. America have stop importing oil from Nigeria but has double its import from Saudi Arabia and the rest of the gulf . America consumption far outweighs its production, so logic demand it import to compliment the existing capacity.. no single country in the world is self sufficient, even India the largest rice producer still import a small quantity of rice product from nearby Myanmar. |
Iriruaga100:by improving public infrastructure and enhancing investment opportunity by removing the gridlock surrounding business enviroment. |
Iamgrey5:Pakistan, Brazil and Indonesia All have basic infrastructure that it's fuelling their economy.. for Nigeria to shoulder up with this above nation, then it should developed its basic infrastructure first . and along the line , all this aforementioned country practice what is called comparative advantage. they import what is not enough or augment their production just to maintain above capacity . it is common to see America importing oil despite having it huge and in abundance and it is also common to see China importing rice despite having a large capacity to feed itself. comparative advantage has proven to be the efficient system of economy and whenever consumption exceed production , simple logics determine, more should be imported to augment the existing capacity. Nigeria should be talking about industrialization now not agriculture. an industrialized enviroment will automatically improved mechanized farming. |
Iamgrey5:Then this achievement cannot be established by closing the border. Distribution channel contribute about. 50 percent of Nigeria GDP. no buisness or organization can established thru out the 700 local goverment therefore it make sense for people to act as distributor for product. to get to their final consumer. Nigeria at the moment is not producing enough due to poor infrastructure and worrisome bureaucracy. what do you think will be. the next alternative. |
Iamgrey5:Why do you think closing the border is of anything beneficiary? |

Realnigeria:if an authority in Nigeria can sound this way , then Nigerian business men are in trouble . China alongside India were once the economic powerhouse of the world . China historically is buoyant economically with sophisticated technology thru the medieval age. China’ population was usually larger than Europe’s, and the various phases of Chinese empire were wealthier and more technologically sophisticated. Nigeria has no historical advantage nor was it buoyant to stand on its own. Morocco , Algeria and Egypt are the only country with such in africa. yet they are not with this porous thinking. And, of course, China system of centralized goverment is another thing this custom authority didn't think thru, over 52 billion dollar of Chinese citizens cash working abroad are flowing in to the economy during the closure, ( it is called foreing remmittance) how miuch are Nigeria citizens working abroad pumping into Nigeria economy. this cash is what was used to establish various industrial hub around the suburb of China. it is time Nigeria stop thinking childishly and focus on how to annexed a market volume of 1.3 billion people instead of looking at 200 million population which can not fast track development and industrialization. comparing China to Nigeria by the custom authority shows the man need serious education. |
The objective purpose of closing the border by Nigeria goverment is to make Nigeria a prosperous nation by growing the local industry and empower the teeming unemployed youth. But history had prove this idea to be impractical and unproductive. In the 1950s and 1960s, governments of many countries in Africa and Latin America erected trade barriers. The plan was to enable the industries of their countries to grow, “protected” from outside competition. What actually happened was the opposite.. Although the industries in these “protected” countries grew for a short period, the lack of competition meant that their industries became inefficient and fell behind the rest of the world. Also, because imports were very expensive or even unavailable, their costs of production rose as they were stuck using old technologies. Soon these “protected” industries were producing goods that few people wanted, exports fell and, in many cases, the industries – usually run by friends of the president – had to be subsidised by the state in order to keep them afloat. ""Governments paid for these subsidies by taxing farmers (either directly or by forcing farmers to sell to marketing boards) and by borrowing – one of the reasons why so many African and Latin American countries have such large debts. Some governments, such as Brazil’s, printed money to pay off the debt and this led to hyperinflation, reduced confidence in the economy and caused massive disinvestment,” The closure of borders to ward off competition has been proven not to work and should be abolished. The significance of the subject tell us that governments should not try to create national champions by “protecting” them from competition or by subsidising them. Nigeria even had a remarkable case to learn, operation feed the nation was a Goverment policy which was aim to grow the local food production and reduce Nigeria dependence of foreing product, but as history will have it, the opposite was the case, the over population of the country frustrated the policy and the ecomical implication is what we have today. logically telling us no country can entirely be self sustainable.... There are have been reports of food inflation in Nigeria now. . |
Jonraid:Great, Ghana is also embarking on digital census early next year. first time any west Africa country will be conducting census thru electronic. |

Ttalk:Just relax till Monday. there is high delegation of Ghanaian diplomat In Nigeria since last week and the meeting held was about creating a temporary corridor for Ghana product . the customs of both country are expected to meet tomorrow to finalized the modalities. And regarding the border extension, buhari is in London currently and any news regarding it may be fake at the end . |
Area4Area:I am a national of both country, and Ghana being my motherland is my sweetheart. |
Area4Area:I don't hate Nigeria and Nigerians. how can I hate my fatherland ? I just hate the idealogy of the policy makers. and to your links. i am pretty sure you know the reasons the land border was closed . benin and other neighbouring countries are not allowed. |
Area4Area:I just told you by this time tommrow you will be updated. Nigeria and Ghana custom are metting to work on the modalities of the agreement . but don't cry when it goes against your wish. Ghana goods was allow for exhibition but benin product was stop on the road . have you think about that? |
Area4Area:I am surprised you also don't know the purpose of exhibition is also to trade.....and eventually by tommrow, you will be updated . I already told you Ghana case is diffrent ...... All those goods on exhibition will be sold and forex will be exchange . |
Area4Area:source ....citinewsroom... Ghana - Nigeria custom to hold joint meeting ""The meeting is expected to help the two countries set out modalities on how Ghanaian traders may easily cross the Nigerian-Benin border with their goods. According to the Deputy Minister-in-charge of Trade and Industry, Mr Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, an announcement will be made after the meeting on Monday to that effect. The Deputy Minister was hopeful the meeting would yield positive results considering the outcomes of all the meetings held between the two countries. The Deputy Minister stated that following meetings with the Commissioner of Customs and the Minister of Foreign affairs of Nigeria last Wednesday, a Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) truck which was conveying products from Ghana to Nigeria for an exhibition was allowed into that country after several days of staying behind the Nigerian border. This, the Minister said was a good sign and he was very optimistic the meeting on Monday would yield the needed results. Speaking on Citi TV‘s The Big Issue, the Deputy Minister said the modalities would make it easier for both Ghanaian and Nigerian trucks to cross the border and improve transparency for Nigerian authorities. According to him, the two sovereign states are hoping to among other things arrive at a decision that would make authorities know the quantity and type of products en route to each other’s country before the goods arrive. “When we got to the commissioner of customs, the customs people who went with us also had a very hearty discussion with him and they were all on one side saying that it is important that they have a customs to customs cooperation where they will exchange information even about goods that are about leaving Ghana to Nigeria, so they can do same for us. That way they know what is coming into their country”. “You heard me say that we are going to create a special window for these Ghana trucks to be able to move in, and the Foreign affairs Minister of Nigeria promised to do this with Ghana and to have that exchange. So the Commissioner of Customs for Ghana and that of Nigeria are supposed to sit down and come up with modalities on Monday." "He went further to promise that on Monday we are having a crunch meeting and after that meeting, they are going to come out with a brilliant announcement and so we should all open our ears,” Mr Ahenkorah added. Background Nigeria closed its frontiers in what it says is to stop the smuggling of products from its neighbouring West African countries into Nigeria. The action taken by Nigeria was to express its displeasure at the attitude of the Beninese authorities in order to elicit their cooperation. The closure of the borders which started in August 2019 was expected to be in force for twenty-eight (28) days, however, it looks like the issues remain unresolved thus the continuous closure. Many trucks have been stranded at the Seme border for several weeks now"". |
isthatso:As i said , i love stupid People and I am about to show you the reasons since you are stupid. You as an individual expose a very poor sound of reasoning to basic education and as to what grammer structure entails , if you see the quote sign and you still ignorantly demonsrate it is from me shows how porous your brain is ? You are daft but that shouldn't mean you should be foolish as well. |
