Car Talk / Re: Let's Talk About Automatic Transmission Fluid (gear Oil) by venabili: 6:52pm On Apr 30
My Mechanic changed my gear oil for acura mdx 2013 last month. Coming back from work and i noticed the transmission struggling. The car sputtered before i could reach house. The roadside mechanic thought it was fuel pump but changing it didnt help. My mechanic later came and discovered that a hose to the injector had turn off and the engine seat is bad. He taped it off and managed the car to his shop. Both engine seat and hose has been changed but transmission still struggles and the car is now lighted up like xmas tree

I asked the mechanic( who worked on my previous car for 4 years without issues) what oil he used. He said T-iv. Could this be responsible for the issue? The check engine and transmission light came up after the fix he did and the D light is blinking.

I drive an acura too. My tpms kept showing for so many months. I kept planning to scan and find the particular one to replace. The day i scanned it, the guy cleared the error code there and its over a year that I have seen that tpms prompt in my instrument cluster. So I suggest u make sure your tyres are adequately inflated to the correct sizes, scan with a high end scanner that can read tpms codes and clear. Then proçeed from there.

Many thanks. I'll try and find someone with an advanced scanner. I used my small scanner and got no code. The scanner cant clear anything though. Is there an affordable scanner you can recommend?

Macmilla:

"Well inflated" can also mean overinflated.
Check your tire pressure with a good gauge and be sure the pressure is within specification. Don't just say it is well inflated.

Thanks. Will get the guage and try myself. though it is showing as a "system function error". Normally it will show the tire that is over or under inflated.
Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by venabili: 7:20am On Apr 15
Oga Gazzuzz,

Abeg i get an mdx 013 with tpms and battery sensor light on. The tires are well inflated and the battery works fine. There is also a sound coming from the front driver wheel. Is there a good mechanic (that does home pickup) you can recommend? Or one around Magboro/Arepo axis

Be Grateful to your Country.

How much do you think a semester cost in UK or any school in the US?
Appreciate Nigeria.

This is misleading as it means you are dividing by the watered down rate. So all Govt need to do is devalue naira to 10,000/$ and education becomes cheaper. That will be just $16.9.

The question is , should the rate be so absymal? What if the rate was N100/$, will we still think its cheap?

This is the same stuff i see when people shout that fuell is cheaper simply because they are dividing by the watered down rate government keeps giving us.

Fuel is N650

If rate was N216 like Jonathan era, that $3/litre
If you use the current yeye rate thats $0.43/litre

They can devalue further and still push the narrative that its still becoming cheaper

What we should ask ourselves is how long will it take a mimimum wage earner to pay for a $3k fees in US and how long it will take an average nigerian minimum wageist to earn N169k to pay the same fees. Then we can know which is really cheaper

1. These guys pay 85% Petroleum profit tax.
2. They pay 3% NDDC levy on their budget
3. Add another 3% Host Community development fund
4. NCDMB levy, education tax and myriads of others.
5. Yet they have to still provide jobs to indigenes, communty contracts, scholarships, contractor entry fees and all sort of gifts to keep communities at peace.
6. The government is still unable to secure their multimillion dollar assets. So they need hire Community security forces to combat pipeline vandalism, oil spillage, oil theft etc.
7. The same people busting the pipelines turn around and sue them for oil spillage in millions of dollars. These fines doesnt trickle down to the people thatbare really impacted.
8. When will we seat down and ask our leaders what they are doing with the royalties, taxes, fines and levies paid by these IoCs during their stay here?

Lets see how you'll take a local oil companybto US to sue. Good luck trying to sue them in nigeria either.

Dont forget, we sold the power sector to nigerians. We are all "enjoying" the benefit of that decision today

Politics / Re: Again, CBN Raises Import Duty Rate By Another 4.4% In 24 Hours by venabili: 2:08am On Feb 04
DeLaRue:

You think so, but that's not the reality.

There is a pain point at which demand for many imported goods will fall fast. People will simply start buying less and less of them. Whether that pain point is at N1500, N1800, or N2000 to a dollar, I don't know.

But the CBN will have the data. They know. If N1500 doesn't stiffle imports to the level they want, I suspect the CBN will not mind seeing naira close to N2,000 to a dollar.

In some ways, it is to the credit of Mr Tinubu's administration that it is willing to follow this extremely tough path to redirect the economy from import-dependence to greater local production. For a politician facing election in just over 3 years to follow a path that may not show positive results for a few years, is truly brave.

The Nigerian economy was heading for the rocks after over 40 years of mismanagement. Tough decisions are needed to correct long term over dependence on imports.

That naira/dollar pain point is the point at which local production of certain goods starts becoming more viable than importing the same goods. This should translate to us producing more of what we need locally. This will lead to more job creation, less pressure on the naira, and a stronger, more balanced economy in the long term.

But this approach comes with a lot of economic pain initially, as the country is witnessing now.

That's the theory o.

Whether things happen in practice like I stated above is a different matter, because Nigeria's situation often defy economic theory.

You assume nigeria has local equivalent of most of the things we import, we dont.

1. Electronics
2. Automobiles
3. Heavy machineries
4. Refined oil products
5. Mobile devices.

Nah, we would be lucky if it doesn’t cross 2k by December

A miracle if it goes back to 1k and stabilizes

And I ain't hating or anything, but I really don't see this administration doing anything to tackle the fundamental issues that would help bring in more forex in.....Power, Security etc.

It most likely will cross 2k. FX inflow into the country will worsen overtime. Its simple business logic. No one want to invest in a country where they cant easily repatriate profit.

Imagine an airline that made N800m in profit for reptraition in 2021/22. That was $2m on their books. But they were unable to repatriate until recently at N1200ish. Thats less than 700k usd. Over $1.3m lost to FX only. Thats why foreign companies are leaving in droves.

In all likelyhood, Shell, Agip and Mobil will find their way year too. Other manufacturing entities will be forced to leave as cost of generating power via diesel keeps rising. They cant pass the cost fully to consumer as our buying power is seriously eroded.

And the MTEF still has more borrowing till 2026. Apart from Dangote refinery, everything looks bleak. And analyst now belive we shouldn't expect that refinery to save us.

Rome wasn't built in a day. Give Jagaban more time to stabilise the economy. By end of this year, everything would normalize. Naira would find it's place of rest at N500 to $1.
It took Jagaban at least one year to transform Lagos.
Good, established, improvements take time to form.
You don't just build a school in one day!

Really? When the 2024 budget was built on N800/$? And custom has changed its rate to over N1400? Those are indicators thats signals that there is no plan to go back to N500/$.

Clearing of MDX now is more than 3m and this one has been there for 6 months? Factored in demorage? Seller may just want to sell at a loss and move on. Am in that situation with one of my cars as well.

MDX is certainly a great car, just make sure your oxygen sensors and catalyst are intact. I use Acura as well(RDX) the performance of that car is better compared to rav4(RDX). In the case of MDX it's similar to highlander in performance

Yea, mentioned other cost for overtime and running. Dunno what those mean sef. Both are like 1m extra.

Love is overrated. While its a great emotion to have in marriage, it does not guarantee success. Its also quite fickle. Reapecting each other, having realistic expectations as well as a shared vision will result in a more peaceful and lasting relationship.

Ever wonder why all those old marriages where people are betrothed last so long?

Get a DNA test done though just to remove doubt.
Do not rush to conform with our cultural expectation of relationships. Legal/cultural marriage is not a must. Do note that virtually everything people will say is wrong about your relationship will be so cos of the lens of religion and culture.
For me, if it makes you happy and have peace of mind, enjoy it. Too many properly wedded folks are depressed and caged anyway
