QueTeddy: Japan and Russia were cohorts in the war where US bombed Japan twice, with nuclear bombs. They didn't try that on Russia and two other things to note, first, then Japan was retreating, secondly Japan contemplated using bioweapons against US but didn't as they felt it was way too far.
Plus, most seem to forget that countries are very prone to wars, major wars. Given that it hasn't happened in recent times doesn't meant it something to be forgotten easily. The extent war causes damage to a country and how strategically footed soldiers are placed matters a lot. If Ukraine has a NATO base, which is sure to include battalions and maybe nuclear warheads, if any war breaks out, Russia would be out of the picture easily. Cohorts ke? Japan and Russia? Which history book are you reading from? Japan was on the side of Germany while US and Russia were cohorts. In fact, the lend lease Act of America allowed Russia to get enough war materiel to prosecute the war. And Russia was informed of the new weapon before its use. Stalin already knew through espionage though . You can check wikipedia

sylvajoe: 64. sylvajoe(m): Quote Post I rather support the West than Russian for the following reasons. 1. The West promotes democracy and encourages open society Russian prefers dictators and autocrats. 2. The West support humanitarian and international development while Russia support conflicts only, eg. Syria, Mali, CAR, etc I know some of those hating the West here work with western NGO,s or have friend and relatives who do so, collect their salaries in hard currencies, Ibdo not know any Russian foreing NGO. Kindly tell us one. 3. The West will allow media and religious freedom, Russia bans or persecute religious minorities, the media and evn their own NGOs.
4. The West will counter your political views with greater argument or reasoning while Russia will either jail you, expel and evn send men to the Your number three though. This war has changed that. The west is taking Russian media offline whether radio, TV or social media. They are denying us the opportunity to hear from the other side. They simply tell us that the Russians are spreading disinformation and we should not listen. Thats press censorship. Secondly, the West has ensured that you must speak against the Russian invasion if you want to do business in and with the west. No differing opinion is allowed. You must also cut economic ties. Whether you think the war is evil or not is irrelevant. The only political correct thing to say is to call Putin names. Your freedom of expression is out of the window. Thirdly, people's asset are been seized simply because they are Russians. Animals are banned and contract terminated simply because they are from Russia. It does not matter that no court of law has granted leave for the assets to be seized or contract terminated. Especially since these people commited no other crimes than holding Russian nationality. I am not referring to the oligarchs. I am talking about sportmen and women whose life are been impacted simply because they are Russians. Thats discrimination and racism. |

neuf: The truth is that this war has nothing to do with Ukraine, NATO or Russian national security. This war was designed and perfected by China and Russia to dethrone the US Dollar and put an end to the dollar hegemony. Bear with me let me explain a little.
I believe China and Russia finally figured it out that as long as the dollar remains the top currency, the US will always have the advantage. They can outrightly declare war on America, because then the world will be at war and anything other than China or Russian victory and US surrender, the status quo will be maintained.
Why do I reason this way?
Well in 2008, Ukraine and Georgia submitted a membership request to join NATO. At Romania NATO convention, members vote to denied their request. This is a step further than what Putin used as an excuse to start this senseless war. In 2022, Ukraine never submitted the request, only making it a law that Ukraine must join NATO and EU. There was no guarantee that their requested will be granted just like it was in 2008 given the Donbass and Crimea crisis but yet Putin decided to go to war.
I know must be thinking Russia wasn't strong enough as at 2008, that's why. You'd be wrong because so far, all their gadgets used in this war are equipments they had in 2008. None of their new tech have made an appearance in the war.
Also, the behaviour of China is giving the US vibes in WW2, sit on the fence and then swoop in to save the day and change the narrative. I believe Russia thought that invading Ukraine will bring in the US into the war which might go nuclear in the worse case scenario. In that case, too much external pressure will cause the dollar to tumble, people will sell off dollars to purchase the Yuan, steadily making China the New superpower. They will in turn rebuild the Soviet Union alongside Russia.
think for a sec before you shout western propaganda, why is every one "the propagandists" blaming the US for absolutely nothing in particular. - There is no evidence that the US cause the coup in Ukraine, - there's no evidence that the US install Ukraine former president (this is for those of you that think Zelensky was the president back in 2014). - The US specifically said they won't put boots on ground or come into direct confrontation with Russia over Ukraine even before the war started. - The US promise to provide Ukraine with aids to defend itself which they have done. - They promised sanctions on Russia which they have done.
Yet despite all these, all you see is how the US pushed Ukraine and then abandoned it. How the US is at fault. Even China that when it mattered choose to sit on the fence is blaming the US for absolutely nothing. Russia at every turn wants to bring the US into it.
why is that You didnt explain how the dollar hegemony would be overthrown by this war. I'm really interested in that because a significant part of the 650 bn dollars slush funds set aside by Russia to prop of the ruble against envisaged sanction while planning for this war was in dollars. Russia also have significant wealth funds held in dollars and receive dollars for its oil and gas. |

Libya was smaller and weaker yet NATO used cluster bombs. In fact, the most indiscriminate use of cluster bombs has been by US/NATO. Over 2.5million bomblets dropped. And the secdef claimed only one civilian casualty was sustained. In fact American war doctrine supports the use of cluster bombs as it is cheaper for the same level of destruction. And they are yet to sign the convention banning its use. Talk about hypocrisy. |

So where did the remaining 44,000 nukes go?
I refuse to believe both Russia and the U.S have just 14,000 Nukes combined. Both countries would have nothing less than 100,000 Nuclear warheads each Nukes can be disassembled. Several key treaties specifically require the dismantling of most of the old warheads and some delivery systems. You may check the Strategic Arm Limitation Treaties |

Foreign Affairs › Re: Take A Look At This Map And Tell Me Why You Wouldnt Invade Ukraine. by venabili: 9:04pm On Feb 27, 2022 |
Babinski: Please get your facts right on the Cuba issue. USA didn't invade Cuba neither did they attempt to bomb Cuba. John Kennedy who was the US President during the Cuba Missile Crisis was advised to invade Cuba because USSR was building nuclear missile bases in Cuba. The invasion would have started a war. But Kennedy took the better option of creating a Naval blockade of Cuba to prevent nuclear missiles from being shipped into Cuba.
Kennedy's actions are far far more honourable than those of Putin despite the situation at Cuba being much more provocative than that of Ukraine. NATO doesn't site nuclear bases in member countries neither does it encourage its members to be agressors. I never said he invaded. I said why was USA ready to bomb Cuba simply because they hosted Russian weapons on their sovereign land? Yes, Kennedy, against the advise of his military chose not to conduct the airstrike. He decided to use an obscure treaty as legal pretext to "quarantine" ( not blockade, as a blockade is an act of war itself) My key contention was not the action taken or not taken but the fact that sovereign decision of another nation prompted America to intervene militarily. By the way, whats tour opinion of the legality of the Monroe doctrine? |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Take A Look At This Map And Tell Me Why You Wouldnt Invade Ukraine. by venabili: 5:37pm On Feb 27, 2022 |
Babinski: There is no encroachment. The countries that joined NATO are sovereigns that have the right to make their decisions themselves. They are not subordinate to Russia or anyone.
If Russia is not comfortable with that then Russia should either join NATO or form a different military alliance and seek for countries to join the alliance. One of the most basic human rights is freedom to associate. Fighting or invading another country can never be the solution. I agree. But why was the USA ready to bomb Cuba for accepting Soviet weapons on its soil back in 1962? And why do they keep reiterating the Monroe doctrine when it has no basis in international law? |

They might have to lose Donbass region which is quite sad. But given the infrastructural damage, loss of life and a protracted war that will result otherwise, i think they should take the lesser evil. Funny enough, the west could help with soldiers. The should just give them civilian clothings and call them volunteers. Russia provided the framework and precedent for that when they invaded crimea with russian soldiers in civvies. |

Foreign Affairs › Ukrainian Delegation To Meet With Russian Officials by venabili(op): 4:30pm On Feb 27, 2022 |
The office of Ukraine's president has confirmed that a delegation will meet with Russian officials as Moscow’s troops draw closer to Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's office said on Telegram that the two sides would meet at an unspecified location on the Belarusian border and did not give a precise time for the meeting.
The update came hours after Russia announced that its delegation had flown to Belarus to await talks.
Ukrainian officials initially rejected the move, saying any talks should not take place in Belarus, where Russia has placed a large contingent of troops.
The meeting news came shortly after President Vladimir Putin's order that Russian nuclear forces be put on high alert in response to what he called "aggressive statements" by leading NATO powers.
Ukraine's defence ministry says Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko contacted Volodymyr Zelenskyy by phone, which led to an agreement for Ukrainian and Russian delegations to meet on the border of Ukraine and Belarus.
"Alexander Lukashenko has taken upon himself the responsibility for all of the Belarus-based aircraft, helicopters, and missiles to stay grounded during the Ukrainian delegation passage, negotiations and return," the defence ministry says.

complexBoss12: It's a pity that the people of Ukraine will be sacrificed for a new world order. As I said in my previous post few days ago, Putin would rather seen an end to the world than end like Hitler, and just today, he put nuclear weapons on alert over sanctions.
Putin ain't playing by any rules.
Ukrainian President thinks it sounds good to "die a hero" But I will tell you guys for free "there is nothing heroic about death". If you have watched someone die, it's painful and inglorious.
Recognizing than someone is stronger than you is not a sign of weakness but strength. The president of Ukraine is being used as a pawn, in a game that is bigger him. He is sacrificing his people for stupid pride. It's a natural the weak, will be a subject to the strong. Talk to Putin, negotiate. mind you that, Russia hasn't even started war, they are more less playing the deplomatic game of threatening you to come for negotiation, if they decide to end Ukraine in 24 hours it will be done.
You can still quote me and talk rubbish, but sentiment don't win wars. I am being practical here. In international politics, once deplomacy fails, people get hurt. Thank you. I was amazed at how restrained the Russian military has been especially with respect to civilians. A woman was berating them and they didnt kill her. There were few people standing in front of their tanks and Russian military actually swerved rather than mow them down. And just over 200 missiles launched at Ukraine. If Russia were to chose to be brutish. A few fuel air explosives over Kyiv will quickly reset Ukrainian brains as to the might of the Russian military. It is unfair that Russia invaded Ukraine. Buy if it was Ukraine and another weaker nation, Ukraine will likely do same. Afterall, Aljazeera carried news of Ukrainians robbing nigerians going to the Polish border. And Zelensky should stop the die like a hero thing. The object of war is not to die for your country. It is to make the othetlr soldier die for his. |

heniford2: it will not touch naija but another civil war will break out incase of ww3 Well, studies have shown that the possibility of a limited nuclear exchange is slim. The most likely is an all-out nuclear exchange between NATO and Russia. North America and Europe will become total wastelands. 2. China and India will also be decimated by USA or Russia to prevent them from becoming the sole world power after the nuclear exchange. This means China will be forced into shooting their missiles too. India will decimate pakistan for the same reason. Lets assume no country in Africa is specifically targeted. 1. The climatic impact will likely be devastating. While there are arguments as to whether there will be a nuclear winter or not, it is certain that see levels will rise from melting of the icecaps as global temperature will later drop after the nuclear fall out block solar rays. 2. Then. Imagine everything we import today, fuel, TV, technologies, virtually everything else, suddenly stopped by the destruction of Europe and USA. The currency becomes valueless. There is widespread famine/hunger leading to breakdown of law and order. All the wealth of nations held in USD vaporized, the financial system supporting global trade gone like a puff. I think the lucky ones will be those who die in the exchange. I'm sure you remember the lawlessness brought about by the lockdown in 2020. |

angelfallz: You don't understand.
If Ukraine is allowed to join NATO. NATO would be able to build air bases and missile stations. Those missile stations would be able to launch missiles directly to Moscow and because of the distance from Moscow, the Russian army would not have enough time to react to those missiles. So basically the US and NATO could launch missiles at Moscow and Moscow would not have enough time to react and launch their own missiles.
Also, having those missiles so close to Moscow, the US basically has a gun to Putin's head, and you know what happens when someone has a gun to your head. If the person says bark like a dog, you would bark.
Like i said in a previous thread what Putin is doing, is what any reasonable leader would do in his position. It is unfortunate that the people of Ukraine elected an idiot for a president.
I am happy you said even the US would not tolerate such if they were in Russia's position. I actually do understand. However, Russia is one of the nations with a nuclear triad. The Borei class submarines with Bulava missiles will ensure that even if other land and plane based missiles are eliminated, there will still be enough warheads to decimate America and most of europe. Additionally, Russia has a lot of Rail/Road mobile missiles whose location are hard to track for western powers. Also, it is quite improbable that a decapitation strike can take out missile silos given that they are quite buried deep with adequate reinforcements to survive anything except a direct hit. |
