Bollywood’s no. 1 spot threatened by Nigeria’s Nollywood
May 8, 2009 posted by indiatime |
Bollywood, the most prolific producer of cinema in the world, may soon be losing that crown to a place that seems to have quietly surpassed every other cinema-producing country and is now closing in on India’s heels. Unesco’s institute for Statistics has just released a global survey on the state of cinema in the world, and places Nigeria’s Nollywood ahead of Hollywood, but just a few steps behind Bollywood.

According to the survey, here are the top movie producing countries for the year 2006

1. India (1091) who knows
2. Nigeria (872) hahahahahhahhahahahahahahahhahahahaha, bullshit.even if it were so most of them are video diaries rather than films
3. United States (456) a lot more, way more if you want to add all the b and lower quality films produced that would ba amazing by nigerian standards.
4. Japan (417)
5. China (330)
TV/Movies / Re: Can Nollywood And Bollywood Ever Work Together? by VeritasInV: 10:38am On Jul 28, 2009
Dear God i hope not, i am not a big fan of indian films but they have a good quality if Nollywood got involved it would all turn to crp or bollywood.

come on and many nigerians watch the bollywood films even though they dont understand a word just to see a nicer scene rather than the horrible senes in most Nigerian films.

And Many Nigerian films just make no sense whatsoever

Politics / Re: British Airways Regrets Maltreatment Of Nigerians by VeritasInV: 7:25pm On May 26, 2008
This is not an isolated incident.

In mentality many nigerians probably thought that because the airline is named virgin nigeria they could behave as they pleased.

I observe this phenomenon quite frequently when coming to Nigeria. It has to do with the mentality nigerians have they feel unreasonably discriminated against even if that may not be the case.
When arriving in Nigeria i have observed that almost every nigerian gets up as soon as the plane touches tarmac. They feel like they have to in a hurry to get of rather than waiting appropriately for the plane to come to a complete stop. as soon as the plane lands many get out of their seats and start rumbling around in the overhead locker sometimes barely hitting other people on the head with luggage.
In onn instance i even heard one man say '' wettin you wan tell me , we de fo nigeria now.'' , as a repply to the standard disembarkment announcement. You know please stay in your seats until the plane has come to a complete and total stop, and the captain has switched the seatbelt lights off.

I feel like any bad reputation nigerians are giving us cant be avaoided as long there are the few who will always make their loud mouths run off for no reason.

Religion / Re: Nigerian Churches And Noise Pollution by VeritasInV: 7:06pm On May 26, 2008
Nigerian Churches are a mockery of the church and are actualy just pseudo-churches really.
Its like a mass hysteria effect on the people. Just because God is in heaven it doesn't mean you have shout for him to hear you.
I have four churches in my area which keep me up almost every night of the week.

Prayer and religion is a voluntary act and not to be defined by the forcing of a religion onto an unwilling party.

The nigerian form of church is an affront .

This is m y opinion say what you will
Nairaland / General / Re: One Reason Why You Hate Or Love Nigeria by VeritasInV: 6:56pm On May 26, 2008
Nigeria is my country since i was born here. I think if anyone can succeed in Nigeria, he will succeed anywhere in the world. Living in Nigeria is a challenge.

Living in Nigeria is a challenge? Son have you even opened your eyes yet? Are you still in the womb?

Living in Nigeria is on comparable to living in a prisoner populated island.

'' Anyone is capable of anything.'' This has been my motto in life since i came here. I have hade 3 phones stolen out of m y pockets. Cash other things, anyone here claims to be a mechanic just because they can afford to buy a screwdriver. Almost any thing that i have ever owned has been destroyed by nigerians. I had 2 cars both tottalled by so called mechanics. Nigerians can never be affraid of going to hell because they are already guaranteed a first class trip there.

I can only say that 5% of all the nigerians i have ever met are even worth talking to muuch less looking at.
If i could i would ask the un to institute marshall law on Nigeria. eing here is worse than going to hell or dieing because if you have morals they are being killed everyday you live here. and in the end you begin to question humanity.
Culture / Re: What Can We (nigerians) Do To Stop Armed Robberies? by VeritasInV: 6:48pm On May 26, 2008
The armed robbers are really blazen in their actions?
They are all just lazy cowards who are either too lazy or too stupid to work a job like many pople here in Nigeria.

There should be real consequences for thesse bastards. public excecutions of all armed robbers. to serve as an example.
Travel / Re: West African Countries Hate Nigerians? by VeritasInV: 2:53pm On Mar 20, 2008
I am not insulting anyone just making some statements as i know them to be. I have been living in many countries in Africa for over 23 years, and i have learnt a few things in that time my major bieng sociology and human behavioral interaction with a minor psycholgy

''I think that most other Africans are simply Jealous Of Nigerians. With all of our challenges, they wish they were like us. We are many and we bond together when we need to.WE are loud and necessarily don't have this servant mentality. From the good to the bad to the ugly, any first in black Africa,we are the one.'It gets under their skin and thats why they 'hate' us.''

Wrong . We have the slave mentality and a lot more but we are worse because we are ''deceptive''. The challenges may have been great but not unavoidable. The point is you cannot just say they are jealous, when you know how the greater populace has to live here.
''From the good to the ugly.'' Nice statement , but can you support that when the ugly outweighs the good tremendously. I can't.

''I think the reason is that a lot of oyibos only know about Nigeria when they think of African countries.
I have also met a few who thought other African countries were within Nigeria and one in particular that thought Africa was a country where men and wild animals co existed and she went ahead to tell me all these tales of Africa and the barbarian nature of "those people" until I told her I was African .
Her next statements were,I thought you said you were Nigerian and the second was,you definitely do not look African.''

Well you are a bit confused i can tell and you are obviously just making this up. I have been around in a lot of places in this life mostly africa and europe.
but your story is just a bit of ''yaddah yaddah''. If you know what i mean.

''I am very careful of Nigerians myself due to all the 419.That does not mean I hate my people.
The reality is that many Nigerians perhaps due to the lack and corruption in our nation are very corrupt, coniving and crafty.
I am careful when dealing with us even here in the states you can't let down your guards.
Wasn't it a Nigerian working in a bank in Houston that sold private info of customers to 419 people who got credit cards and ran up charges in the unsuspecting victims names. Do you know how many Nigerians including Doctors, pastors and Lawyers in American prisons for fraud and the like.
Our people have given us a bad name and it's an uphill task redeeming that image for the honest citizens.''

A very steep hill. I used to have Nigerian friends when i was in europe for a few years, they had okay jobs, even though being students, and had nice accomodations. Yet after a while i began finding out that they were pushing drugs ,and saw with my eyes that they were. I was almost arrested once just for being around them and since then it happened twice with other nigerians. Since then i had learnt my lesson. Why should i place myself in danger , because my ''fellow nigerians'' cannot try to abide by laws when we are in other countries. If you come here on the plane everyone is really nice and stuff , but as soonas you arrive in lagos for example, order and manners aswell as discipline that were present in people go out the window. As soon as the plane touches the tarmac everyone gets up and starts moving around ,when they should remain seated till the plane stops. then you hear really stupid comments from some people like '' i beg , we de fo nigeria know, you no fit tell me sometin.''

'but the thing is people from other african countries e,.g GHANA and elsewhere sef now do 419 in our name, so that we get all the flack for it.''.

Maybe but we are the main source we do it a lot more often and on a greater scale in numbers. If it were the majority of the people of another african nation that were doing it they would get the flack.
Events / Re: How Necessary Are Big Weddings? by VeritasInV: 2:03pm On Mar 20, 2008
A big wedding in nigerian terms may mean inviting 500 to 3000 or more people to your wedding.

In nigeria this means if you think you have 200 people coming , ther may be 500 at the end of it.

A wedding is a ceremony witnessed by a priest a best man and a bridesmaid in the most intimate setting this would ba a small wedding.
If the families of the bride and groom attend fair enough they should. I do not however see the need for a wedding to be held at every vaileble open ground or peremises with 500 to 3000 peolple being present.

If the wedding is known to the families of the couple as well as a few friends. That should be enough and honestly is there any need to show of really.Which i what a nigerian wedding really is.

why not try and keep things nice at your wedding. and a little calm. Music okay but dancer and getting people drunk at a wedding. Also ending up having to worry about paying for the wedding may not seem relative but they can be bothersome. If you spend all you have on a wedding just to entertain people who are not in either family or friends. Many people seem to come just to eat at nigerian weddings and drink of course they mostly arrive just as the food i ready to be served. then come up with ''i couldnt find the place''.

Let us keep a wedding as what it should be a joyous occasion for the couple getting married and not a finnancial dissaster for two people who are getting married.

All this being said i understand the sociological and psychological thought behind having such large weddings in Nigeria,African Society.
but we could really still try to make a wedding seem normal and within limits of reasoning considering our futures.

NO LARGE OR BIG WEDDINGS ARE NOT REALLY NECESSARY.
TV/Movies / Re: Pirated DVDs With 16 Movies: Is Nollywood Doomed? by VeritasInV: 1:32pm On Mar 20, 2008

In all honesty why would any one want to watch Nigerian films?!?!?!?!?!

Most of the films i have seen are shoddy of very poor quality and the actors seem to be of a lower educational ranking.
On top of which many of the ''films'' make light some of the serious issues facing this country. The touch lightly on the subjects of 419 bribbery and corruption but they do not portry an effective image of these things being wrong. Morally and legaly.

Many of the films i have seen are ridiculous and do not follow an even plot line jumping from scene to scene like a rabbit on drugs had been i charge of directing them.

Some and perhaps even a majority of the films i have seen are an abbomination to any film industry.

cry It some times brings a tear to my eye to think that someone actually thought about these films and decided to buy a $20 camera make them with people from the streets and decide its a good film.

There are many inferences to literacy and illiteracy in some of the films i have seen in which a charachter who has travelled ''abroad'' as it is said , returns to the village or town he is from where he begins to behave in a manner not befitting any normal person.

Boasting bragging spending volumes of tape speaking of things whch are imaginery or just made up.
The Character returns with an amount of money which when converted is a fortune here and begins to boast of owning companies and firm or being richer and having a lot more money. In thruth that is all he had after coming back ti Nigeria and spends it all trying to impress fare weather friends.

Many Nigerian films plain and simple may portray a certain aspect of life here but they mostly end up glamourizing many of the negative aspects of being Nigerian.
