CrimeNever Again Shall Igbo Fight War – Ohanaeze by VERQUEST111(op): 6:52pm On Jan 03, 2018
An Igbo apex sociocultural organization, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo , has said that the Igbo would never again go to war to resolve conflicts in the country .
It said the Igbo would rather use diplomacy as a tool for conflict resolution .

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo , Chief Nnia Nwodo , stated this at the 2018 Igbo International Leadership and Good Governance Retreat held at Abagana , Anambra State .

The retreat was organised by the World Igbo Leadership Council and the World Igbo Information and Communication Network .

The event , which was third in the series , was attended by renowned Igbo scholars from Abia , Anambra , Delta, Ebonyi , Enugu, Imo and Rivers states.

The first retreat was hosted at Ibusa , Delta State , by Prof Pat Utomi in 2016 , while the second was hosted by Dr Ogbonnaya Onu in 2017 at Uburu in Ebonyi State .

Nwodo, who commended the organisers of the annual retreat , said though , it was not in doubt that Igbo were facing large scale marginalisation in Nigeria , the way to overcome it was not through fighting another war requiring killing of people at the war fronts , but by adopting peaceful means and dialogue .

While citing the issue of states and local governments ’ creation in Nigeria in which he said the Igbo were short -changed , Nwodo noted that such anomalies could be corrected through dialogue and making other Nigerians to see the need for equity and justice in the Nigeria project .

He said : “ The military created states and local governments and gave the North the highest numbers , not because our population was the smallest , but just part of the marginalisation .
“ But we should be patient and continue to do what we have already started , knowing that the battle is no longer the type that will be fought with guns, but using intelligence .

“ We have suffered so much and that is why we should apply diplomacy . One of such diplomatic moves is the planned handshake across the Niger in which Igbo leaders will be dialoguing with Yoruba leaders in Enugu in the coming week .”

PoliticsGod Has Asked Me To Run For Presidency — Bakare by VERQUEST111(op): 8:19am On Jan 02, 2018
The Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare , has said God has told him not to end his political career as he had earlier contemplated.

Specifically , Bakare , who contested as the vice -presidential candidate on the platform of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change in the 2011 presidential election, said God told him to run for the Presidency .

The Lagos - based cleric spoke in the early hours of Monday during the watch night service at the Latter Rain Assembly in the Ogba area of Lagos .

Giving a rundown of the 12 major things he said God had revealed to him would happen in 2018 , Bakare explained that God had not told him when the “ appointed time ” to run for the presidency would be .
“ This twelfth one is a difficult one for me. It may draw excitement or condemnation. I have tried my best to keep it ( to myself ) but the Holy Spirit will not allow me to do so .

“ In my study around 4am on Sunday morning , God told me ‘ you cannot bring your political career to a close; there is still more to do. Run for the Presidency . I will do it at the appointed time , ” the pastor added .

Bakare declared that he was unfazed by the daunting task that his aspiration might pose , expressing confidence that once the Lord had spoken, it was left for God to perform it .

“ Joseph ( in the Bible ) did not contest an election; yet , he became the prime minister of Egypt. Why must I worry myself about where to get the resources for the task? Your own duty in this assignment is to pray along with me. When it is the appointed time , He ( God ) will do it . When He tells me the time , you will hear about it , ” he stated.
Bakare added that most of the “ political juggernauts ” in the country would fall “ at the feet of women in 2018 . ”

Though he did not mention names , the cleric said some of those seen at the moment as among the most powerful in Nigeria ’ s political space , would be “replaced . ”
“ In 1998 , I told you that I saw your President dying between two women . Did it happen? I ’ m telling you again : some of these political juggernauts will fall at the feet of women and you will see it happen, ” he said .

The pastor declared that 2018 would be a year when women would break barriers in most fields of human endeavours both in Nigeria and globally .
He explained that women would be in the forefront of most policy making decisions while also dictating the pace in the boardroom

PoliticsFull Text Of Muhammadu Buhari’s 2018 New Year Address by VERQUEST111(op): 10:48am On Jan 01, 2018
I join my fellow citizens this morning to welcome and celebrate the New Year 2018 . This year promises to be pivotal in our quest for CHANGE .

Unfortunately , I am saddened to acknowledge that for many this Christmas and New Year holidays have been anything but merry and happy . Instead of showing love , companionship and charity , some of our compatriots chose this period to inflict severe hardship on us all by creating unnecessary fuel scarcity across the country .

The consequence was that not many could travel and the few who did had to pay exorbitant transport fares. This is unacceptable given that NNPC had taken measures to ensure availability at all depots . I am determined to get to the root of this collective blackmail of all Nigerians and ensure that whichever groups are behind this manipulated hardship will be prevented from doing so again .

Such unpatriotism will not divert the Administration from the course we have set ourselves . Our government’ s watch word and policy thrust is CHANGE . We must change our way of doing things or we will stagnate and be left behind in the race to lift our people out of poverty and into prosperity .
My address to fellow Nigerians this morning is devoted mainly to informing you about the intense efforts this Administration is putting to address our country ’ s huge infrastructural deficit .

We are going to make significant in -roads in advancing road , rail and power projects across the country .

The Ministry of Power, Works and Housing is one of the drivers of this Government ’ s commitment to renew and increase Nigeria ’ s stock of infrastructure in order to achieve global economic competitiveness as targeted under the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan .

With regards to Railways, we have set ourselves ambitious targets . Already in construction stage is the Lagos - Kano Standard Gauge Railway .
The line should reach Ibadan from Lagos by the end of 2019 and will carry two million passengers per year and five million tons of cargo will be transported every year giving a substantial boost to the country ’ s economy .

Construction of the Kano – Kaduna segment is expected to commence this year and reach Kaduna by the end of 2019. By the end of 2021 the two ends will be joined so that we will have standard gauge railway across the main North -South trading route .
The Abuja – Kaduna route will be boosted by additional rolling stock next Thursday and will be able to handle one million commuters annually.

At the same time I have approved and negotiations will be concluded in the first part of this year for the Port Harcourt to Maiduguri line covering Aba, Owerri , Umuahia, Enugu , Awka, Abakaliki , Makurdi, Lafia , Jos, Bauchi , Gombe, Yola and Damaturu . The Abuja to Itakpe line will go through Baro and terminate in Warri with construction of a new seaport at Warri .

Negotiations are also advanced for the construction of other railway lines, firstly from Kano to Maradi in Niger Republic passing through Kazaure , Daura, Katsina , Jibia to Maradi .

Secondly , Lagos to Calabar the “ Coastal Rail ” through Ore , Benin , Agbor , Asaba , Onitsha , Sapele , Ughelli , Warri , Yenagoa , Otuoke , Port Harcourt, Aba, Uyo and Calabar . In the next few years , all these Nigerian cities will be linked by functional modern rail systems , giving enormous boost to the social and economic life of our people .

With respect to the Abuja Capital Light Rail , progress has reached 98 % completion, as at 64 % completion when we assumed office . Only test runs remain before start of operations .

This train service will stimulate economic activities in the Federal Capital and provide residents with an efficient and safe transportation system . Twelve railway sub-stations around the capital over a 45. 2 kilometre route will serve as a catalyst and a pull factor to the economy of the area . The Light Rail System will reduce traffic congestion and carbon emission in line with the Administration ’ s policy on climate change .

Management of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency ( FERMA ) has been reconstituted and has been charged with a 12 week rapid intervention in road repairs to cover all the geo -political zones . Government is undertaking repairs and maintenance of 44 roads within the six geo - political zones .
Twenty five major highways will be funded under the N 100 b SUKUK facility . Each geo -political zone will benefit by an equal amount of N 16. 67b . The following major highways are to receive special attention :

a . Oyo – Ogbomosho ,

b. Ofusu – Ore – Ajebandele – Shagamu,

c . Yenagoa Road Junction – Kolo Otuoke – Bayelsa Palm,

d. Enugu – Port Harcourt Dual Carriage Way ,

e . Onitsha – Enugu Expressway,

f . Kaduna Eastern Bypass,

g . Dualization of Kano – Maiduguri Road ,

h . Dualization of Abuja – Lokoja – Benin Road ,

i . Dualization of Suleja – Minna Road..

In addition, Government has approved work to start on the re -construction of Abuja – Kaduna – Zaria – Kano road which is in a state of disrepair. Work will soon start and is expected to be completed in 2019 .
More Nigerians across the country are experiencing improved power supply to their homes and businesses. However , power remains a concern to this government because too many people still do not have regular and reliable supply .

The Payment Assurance Guarantee Scheme which started in January 2016 has enabled the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trader to raise so far N 701 billion to assure Generation Companies of at least 80 % payment for any power delivered to the national grid .

Consequently , generation has now reached 7 , 000 MW. On December 8 , 2017 the country achieved 5, 155 MW of power delivered to consumers , the highest level ever recorded .

Several moribund projects have been revived .
Repairs of Afam Power Station added 110 MW in 2017 and another 240MW will be added this year through a private investment partnership.
Katsina Power Project is now being tested and producing 10 MW of power from wind for the first time in Nigeria . It should be fully operational this year .

The Zungeru 700 MW Hydroelectric Power Project , stalled by court cases is due for completion in 2019 . The transmission and other requirements to operate the 30 MW Gurara Phase 1 Hydroelectric Plant , the 40 MW Kashimbilla Hydroelectric Plant and the 215 MW Kaduna Gas / LPG / Diesel Power Plant will also be completed this year .

A landmark project , Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project is at last taking off . This project has been on the drawing Board for 40 years , but now the engineering , procurement and construction contract for the 3 , 050 MW project has been agreed with a Chinese joint venture Company with a financing commitment from the government of China. Completion is targeted for 2023 ..

As I mentioned earlier, the Transmission Company of Nigeria can now distribute all the 7 , 000 MW that can be generated . TCN and the Niger Delta Holding Company have added 1 , 950 MVA of 330 down to 132 KV transformer capacity of 10 transmission stations and 2, 930 MVA of 132 down to 33 KV transformer capacity of 42 sub-stations including Ikot Ekpene , Aba, Alagbon , Ajah , Ejigbo, Funtua and Zaria .

This Administration is working with the privatised distribution Companies to overcome the continuing challenges of distribution .

These massive public works should spearhead the recovery and lead millions back to employment . You will recall that it was not until last year that we got out of the economic recession into which the country had fallen as a consequence of past unsustainable economic policies which projected short - term illusory growth .

The government is slowly stabilizing the economy .
It was in order to change the steady and steep decline that we adopted the more sustainable policies and programmes captured in the Economic Recovery Plan . Diversification efforts have resulted in improved output particularly in agriculture and solid minerals sectors. The relative exchange rate stability has improved manufacturing sector performance.

We have got to get used to discipline and direction in economic management . The days of business as usual are numbered .

Two years ago I appealed to people to go back to the land. I am highly gratified that agriculture has picked up , contributing to the government ’ s effort to re - structure the economy . Rice imports will stop this year . Local rice , fresher and more nutritious will be on our dishes from now on.

By the same token, I am today appealing to enterprising Nigerians with ideas and unemployed graduates and other able -bodied and literate men and women with ideas not to just sit and wait for employment from the government or the Organized Private Sector . Great nations are built by enterprising people who turn their hands to anything that circumstances dictate ..

In respect of political developments, I have kept a close watch on the on -going debate about “ Restructuring ”. No human law or edifice is perfect. Whatever structure we develop must periodically be perfected according to changing circumstances and the country ’ s socio-economic developments. We Nigerians can be very impatient and want to improve our conditions faster than may be possible considering our resources and capabilities. When all the aggregates of nationwide opinions are considered , my firm view is that our problems are more to do with process than structure .
We tried the Parliamentary system : we jettisoned it .
Now there are shrill cries for a return to the Parliamentary structure . In older democracies these systems took centuries to evolve so we cannot expect a copied system to fit neatly our purposes . We must give a long period of trial and improvement before the system we have adopted is anywhere near fit for purpose .

However , there is a strong case for a closer look at the cost of government and for the public services long used to extravagance , waste and corruption to change for the better. I assure you that government is ever receptive to ideas which will improve governance and contribute to the country ’ s peace and stability .

As the electioneering season approaches politicians must avoid exploiting ethnicity and religion by linking ethnicity with religion and religion with politics . Such must be avoided at all costs if we are to live in harmony .

In this respect the rest of Nigeria could learn from the South Western States who have successfully internalized religion , ethnicity and politics .
Political discourse should be conducted with civility, decorum and in a constitutional manner . We all have a collective responsibility to strengthen our democracy and entrench the rule of law . We should draw encouragement from the series of bye -elections conducted by INEC last year which were generally violence free and their outcomes adjudged to be free and fair .

Before I conclude my address I must reassure my fellow citizens that security of life and property is still top of our government ’ s agenda . We have since beaten Boko Haram . Isolated attacks still occur , but even the best -policed countries cannot prevent determined criminals from committing terrible acts of terror as we have seen during the past years in Europe , Asia , Middle East , elsewhere in Africa and in America .

Our government remains determined to protect all Nigerians in line with our election pledge and promises . On behalf of all Nigerians let me offer our thanks to the Armed forces , the Police , other para -military forces and traditional authorities who are working round the clock to ensure that you and I go about our normal business in reasonable safety .

Terrorism and urban crimes are world -wide phenomena and our security forces are continuously adapting their responses to changing threats.
With regard to rampant cases of kidnappings, we are taking immediate short -term measures to combat this new evil creeping into our societies . Tighter police methods and swift and severe punishment for those proved to be engaged in kidnapping are on the way .

With respect to Niger Delta , Government is still engaging responsible leadership of the Communities to help in identifying and addressing genuine grievances of the region . Our clean-up programme in collaboration with the United Nations is making satisfactory progress .

I am grateful to all the Governors and other Political & Community leaders of the Niger Delta States for their part in bringing relative peace to the areas .
Finally let me again express my heartfelt thanks to all Nigerians who prayed for me during my illness last year . I feel deeply humbled by your prayers and good wishes and I am more determined than ever to serve you to the best of my ability.
good morning and happy new year

PoliticsYusuf Buhari Spends 6th Day In Hospital by VERQUEST111(op): 2:04am On Jan 01, 2018
Armed policemen and officers of the Department of State Services kept vigil , as usual at the Cedar Crest Hospital , Gudu District , Abuja , welcoming the New Year 2018 as President Muhammadu Buhari ’ s son, Yusuf, spent six days in the facility .

A check at the hospital on Sunday around 8 pm revealed that the policemen had been joined by officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps as well as officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission .

Three FRSC vans and one NSCDC van were sighted by our correspondent stationed at the entrance of the Sam Mbakwe Street , giving an indication that these officials might also keep a vigil at the hospital.
On Sunday when our correspondent got to the hospital around 7 pm , Islamic prayer which involved some of the security officials was being observed at the entrance of the hospital around 7 pm . There was no visiting top government official as of the time of filling this report .

A source on the ground told our correspondent that it was sure the policemen and other officials would welcome the New Year at the hospital.

“ You can see that we are all here till the New Year comes . This is a top national duty too. Almost every Nigerian now knows the President ’ s son is sick and admitted here . We wish him a quick recovery, ” the source said .

Yusuf Buhari was rushed to the hospital after having a power bike accident in the Gwarimpa Estate area on Tuesday and sustaining a head injury , which made him undergo a surgery .

Although the President ’ s spokesman , Mallam Garba Shehu , had said Yusuf was in a stable condition and recuperating , the President’ s son had now spent six days at the facility and there were speculations that he might be flown abroad for further treatments at any time soon.

Many top government officials had been visiting the hospital and wishing the President ’ s son a speedy recovery , while several groups had organised prayers in different locations across the country for his recuperation .

PoliticsIt’s A Shame Nigeria Still Imports Petrol –opadokun by VERQUEST111(op): 8:39pm On Dec 27, 2017
The Convener , Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms, Mr. Ayo Opadokun , and the Chairman , Galaxy Clique , Offa , Mr. Muideen Ibrahim , have said it is shameful that Nigeria , which is one of the largest global producers of crude oil , still imports petrol for domestic consumption .

They also said the Offa people were at a disadvantaged position on the basis of their inclusion in Kwara State , which is one of the 19 northern states, when according to them , they share cultural norms and history with the Yoruba.

They spoke in Offa on Tuesday during the 2017 annual Galaxy Colloquium in honour of the late Chief Josiah Olawoyin .

Opadokun , who was the guest lecturer, during an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the event , said Nigeria should develop its capacity to indigenously refine petrol for its domestic consumption .

He said , “I am extremely sad and weakened over the fuel crisis . But I know it to be a cumulative effect of the prolonged misrule of the country by the military .

“ When Buhari was there as the military Head of State , he built refineries but none has been added to the ones he built . The population was not as large as this ; the vehicular movement was not as large and wide as this .

“ Since then, what has happened ? Those who took over from him have totally ravaged Nigeria . What they needed to do, they did not do.
“ I was part of the Nigeria Labour Congress team that did sufficient research . We went to Libya , Egypt, Saudi Arabia , United Arab Emirates and Venezuela to find out how much it costs to explore one barrel of crude oil . Nigeria ’ s own is the most costly in the world and then, what are they doing now .

“ What has happened in the last three or four months is that because the government is not willing to add more money to their profit, they ( importers) said they would not import . So , the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has been importing the totality of fuel being used in Nigeria .
“ But because we have been used to a system where fuel tanks ( tank farms) are being built by independent marketers , they made that unavailable and impossible for the distribution to go seamlessly . That is the cause of the crisis . ”

Ibrahim in his own remarks said , “It is a shame , sad and disheartening that a country that is producing oil and is one of the largest producers in the world, cannot get oil .

“ The timing of the fuel crisis is what really saddens me. Many people could not go for Christmas. Even those of us who came from Lagos , we bought fuel at the rate of N 400 and N 500 per litre .

“ It is shameful that we are still importing fuel . What they need to do is to get it right . The turnaround maintenance on the refineries should be genuine and not cosmetic . We cannot continue to wait until Dangote opens his own in 2019. ”

Opadokun had earlier , while delivering his paper titled , ‘ Offa in Yoruba history , ’ stated that Offa was significant in Yoruba tradition .

According to him , Offa suffered irreparable loss in the hands of the British colonial officers .
Opadokun stated, “ Offa is the traditional headquarters of the Ibolo people. Ibolo people are one of the four species of the Yoruba nation .
“ Ibolo people are in Offa to Iwo, Ede , Osogbo. Ejigbo and Ikirun, Inisa, Okuku, all of them are Ibolo people . Offa is the traditional headquarters

“ If not for a vicious system organised by the British, how can you take the headquarters of a majority and put it in a minority place where we are minoritised . That is why Offa is an important nation . It is the centre of the attack on the Yoruba nation . ” Copyright PUNCH .

Romance“sex Before Marriage Leads To Cheating” — Juliana Olayode A.k.a Toyo Baby by VERQUEST111(op): 8:31pm On Dec 27, 2017
Nollywood actress Olayode Juliana who is famed for her role in Funke Akindele’s Jenifa Diary series as ‘Toyo Baby’ has in a recent chat with The Nation reiterated her belief against sex before marriage.

According to the screen star, she believes sex before marriage will eventually lead to infidelity when the partners eventually become married, because they start comparing their partner’s sexual prowess with that of the people they had sex with previously, before marriage.

When asked if she believes that sex before marriage makes relationships more complicated, Juliana responded:

“Yes I do. Sex before marriage makes relationship more complicated. Some ladies date more than five men before marriage and sleep with all of them because they see it as a norm or a way to prove their love against God’s standard. I personally believe that there is a lot to sex than the pleasure it gives. It makes you become one with the person. It ties you with the person, such that when you marry you compare your previous sexual life with your present and the memories of how you did it with the other person won’t leave you, expecting more from your husband or wife, forgetting that we are all not the same and our sexual lives can’t be the same as well.

“That’s what leads to cheating in marriage. Some men or women can’t imagine been faithful to just one person because they’ve done it with several people in their past or before marriage so it’s difficult. Research has it and I learnt that if you had sex with a particular person if you meet the person years after and you’re alone or whatever, it is very possible that you will do it again.”

On being a really strong advocate on ‘no sex before marriage, she said:

“Sex is good, don’t get me wrong, I mean God created it and everything He made is good and beautiful but sex before marriage is what makes it bad and wrong and sex with anyone else apart from your husband or wife in marriage is bad as well.”

PoliticsI Thought I Was 74 But Was Told I’m 75 –buhari by VERQUEST111(op): 1:13pm On Dec 26, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari , on Monday , stirred up a fresh controversy over his real age when he said he thought he was 74 but was told he was 75 .
Buhari spoke when the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Muhammed Bello, led a delegation to pay him Christmas homage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja .

The President , joined by some state governors and other top government officials , celebrated his 75 th birthday penultimate Sunday . He was said to have been born on December 17, 1942 , in Daura, in present day Katsina State .

While thanking his guests for the visit , Buhari recalled the health challenge that kept him away from the country for months earlier in the year , admitting that 2017 had been a tumultuous year for him .

The President said he had recovered well from the sickness because he obeyed his doctors who instructed him to be eating and sleeping well .
He said , “I am very grateful ( to you) for taking time out on a very important day to come out and spend it with us .

“ It has been a tumultuous year . I am thinking I am 75 . I thought I was 74 but I was told I ’ m 75 .
“ I have never been so sick , not even during the 30 -month civil war that I was stumbling under farm of yams or cassava.

“ But this sickness … I don ’ t know , but I came out better . All those who saw me before said I looked much better when I came back.

“ But I have explained it to the public that as a General , I used to give orders . But now , I take orders. The doctors told me to feed my stomach and sleep for longer hours . That is why I am looking much better . ”

Buhari stated that he appreciated the visit because he respected good neighbourliness both at individual and national levels.

He said that was why immediately after his inauguration as President in 2015 , his first foreign trip was to Chad , Niger, Cameroon and Benin Republic.

“ If you are in good terms with your neighbours , then you can make some savings for development . But if you start fighting your neighbours , then, I am afraid the resources you have you will lose it in trying to be very clever .

“ So , I try to be very close to my neighbours both individually and nationally . I thank you very much for being very good neighbours , ” he added .
The President admitted that 2017 had been a tough year for Nigeria , expressing the hope that next year would be more prosperous for the country .
He stated, “ It has been a tough year for Nigeria and I hope next year will be a much more prosperous one .

“ But those listening to the press and the majority of us know that the rainy season was very good and some states have got very good information from home .

“ I never knew that the people from Kano, who are more resourceful , used to go to my area and hire farms. This year , nobody hired farms, and nobody regretted it .

“ The second one is that the governor of Sokoto State said all the people that really used to go to Mecca were farmers but he didn ’ t tell me if they took additional wives . ”
The FCT minister had spoken about how his administration averted a crisis that would have resulted in a bleak Christmas for the FCT .
He said some youths in the Bwari Area Council clashed in the course of celebrating the Yuletide .
Bello said it took the timely intervention of security operatives in the FCT to put the situation under control .

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria , FCT Chapter , Jonah Samson, said it was a good thing that Buhari was celebrating the Christmas festivities with Christians.

He said, “ Christmas is a season of joy and celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ , but we are here to appreciate your leadership style , especially in fighting corruption and impunity which were seen as the hallmarks of Nigeria .

“ All these have changed by virtue of the way and manner the Buhari administration has strengthened the fight against corruption , ” he added .

PoliticsFuel Scarcity: Resign Now, Fayose Tells Buhari by VERQUEST111(op): 10:51pm On Dec 22, 2017
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign over the “nonchalant attitude ” of the Federal Government towards ending the fuel scarcity being experienced across the country .

The governor said it was unfortunate that the fuel scarcity was biting harder under the watch of the president as the Minister of Petroleum .

He maintained that the All Progressives Congress -led federal government was punishing Nigerians with fuel scarcity so as to achieve its planned raise of petrol pump price from N 145 to not less than N 185 per litre .

The governor stated these in a press release issued on Friday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media , Lere Olayinka.
In Ado Ekiti , there were long queues in Bovas filling stations in Adebayo and Bank roads as well as the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation mega station on Iworoko Road.

Our correspondent observed that the long queue led to traffic gridlock on the ever busy Adebayo road.
Fayose said , “Already , fuel is being sold officially at between N 180 and N 200 at petrol stations across the country .

“ It is sad that this Buhari ’ s APC government had to choose this Christmas and New Year period to ground Nigeria with the fuel scarcity that it deliberately orchestrated .
“ It is obvious that the president has failed in all ramifications and he needs to do Nigerians a favour by relinquishing the portfolio of minister of petroleum. ”

“ Like I said a few days ago , what the federal government is doing is to create scarcity so that Nigerians will be willing to buy at any price , provided the product is made available.
“ It was to achieve this planned increment of petrol pump price that they restricted supply of petrol to NNPC alone . ”

The governor , who sympathised with Nigerians for the hardship said that the only option to rescue Nigeria now “from being brought down completely is to vote out Buhari and his APC in 2019 . ”

Jobs/VacanciesFour Million Nigerians Became Jobless This Year – NBS by VERQUEST111(op): 10:40pm On Dec 22, 2017
Between January and September this year , a total number of 4 . 07 million Nigerians became unemployed , an analysis of the unemployment report for the third quarter released by the National Bureau of Statistics has revealed .

The bureau in the report, made available to our correspondent on Friday , stated that the number of Nigerians that became unemployed rose from 11 .92 million in the first quarter of this year to 13. 58 million and 15 . 99 million in the second and third quarters respectively .

It said between the second quarter and third quarter, the number of economically active or working age population ( 15 – 64 years of age ) increased from 110. 3 million to 111 . 1 million .

The NBS report said the increasing unemployment and underemployment rates imply that although Nigeria ’ s economy is officially out of recession, domestic labor market is still fragile and economic growths in the past two quarters in 2017 have not been strong enough to provide employment in Nigeria ’ s domestic labor market .

It reads in part, “The labor force population increased from 83. 9 million in Q 2 2017 to 85 . 1 million in Q 3 2017 . The total number of people in full - time employment ( at least 40 hours a week) declined from 52 . 7 million in Q 2 2017 to 51 . 1 million in Q 3 2017.

“ The unemployment rate increased from 14 . 2 per cent in Q 4 2016 to 16 . 2 per cent in Q 2 2017 and 18 . 8 per cent in Q 3 2017.
“ The number of people within the labor force who are unemployed or underemployed increased from 13. 6 million and 17. 7 million respectively in Q 2 2017 , to 15 . 9 million and 18. 0 million in Q 3 2017 .

“ Total unemployment and underemployment combined increased from 37. 2 per cent in the previous quarter to 40 per cent in Q 3 2017. ”
It said during the third quarter of this year , 21 . 2 per cent of women within the labor force that were between the ages of 15 years and 64 years and willing, able , and actively seeking work were unemployed , compared with 16. 5 per cent of men within the same period .

The NBS noted in the report that in the third quarter of this year , 16. 4 per cent of rural and 23 .4 per cent of urban dwellers within the labor force were unemployed . It added that the rate of unemployment is increasing at a slightly faster rate for urban dwellers than it was for their rural counterparts .

PoliticsWe Have Paid December, 13th-month Salaries To Workers – Ogun by VERQUEST111(op): 9:22pm On Dec 21, 2017
The Ogun government says it has paid the December and the 13th - month salary to its workers since Wednesday ahead of the festive period .

The State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Wale Osinowo, disclosed this while defending the ministry ’ s 2018 budget estimate before the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation , in Abeokuta.

The commissioner said that this was despite the fact that the state government has yet to receive the last tranche of the Paris Club Refund .
He explained that the state government used the first tranche of the Paris Club Refund to pay the salary of its workers .

“ On the Paris Club Refund , guidelines were set by the Federal government and the state government has been following it to the letter.

“ When we got the second tranche , we used 75 per cent for settlement of salaries and deductions of workers while the remaining 25 per cent was used to execute projects .

“ We are yet to receive the third tranche of the refund , ” he said .
He added that the state government had also cleared the severance package of former political office holders at the state level.
The commissioner said that by the first quarter of 2018 , the state government would clear the severance allowance of former local government political office holders .

“ The amount to be paid between 2007 -2011 is N 540 m while the amount between 2011 and 2015 stands at N 560 m which makes it just over N 1 . 1 bn to be paid as severance to the local government political office holders .

“ Before the first quarter of 2018 , we will ensure we settle the severance allowance , ” he said .
He explained that the ministry had earmarked the sum of N 5. 2bn as its recurrent expenditure for 2018 while capital expenditure would gulp N 200m .
Osinowo added that the 2018 budget of the state tagged “Budget of Accelerated Development” was workable and realistic.

Responding , House Committee Chairman on Finance, Olusola Bankole , said that the Finance ministry was important to the development of the state .
Other members of the committee advised the ministry to ensure the prompt release of money to Ministries , Departments and Agencies for better performance.

SportsRonaldo Is ‘taking The P**s’! Why Cristiano Is Not The Best Player Of All Time by VERQUEST111(op): 9:11pm On Dec 21, 2017
The Portuguese picked up his fifth Ballon d'Or award recently and claimed he is the finest footballer to have lived. But it's simply not the case...

Self-belief is important for any top-level sports star. It is fair to say that Cristiano Ronaldo has plenty of it and after claiming a fifth Ballon d'Or in early December, the Real Madrid forward declared himself to be the best player in the history of football.

“I’m the best player in history, in the good moments and the bad ones,” he told France Football , the magazine that organises the award. “I respect everyone’s preferences, but I’ve never seen anyone better than me. I have always thought that.
"No footballer can do the things I can. There’s no player more complete than me. I play well with both feet, I’m quick, powerful, good with the head, I score goals, I make assists. There are guys who prefer Neymar or [Lionel] Messi. But I tell you: there’s no-one more complete than me."

It is that attitude that has pushed the Portuguese to greater heights. Certainly, his admirable ambition has changed his life and that of his entire family, while it has helped Real Madrid to three Champions League crowns over the past four seasons.
But he is not the best player in history. In fact, he is probably not even the finest footballer to have played for Real Madrid.

When Goal spoke to fans outside the Santiago Bernabeu recently, not many picked Ronaldo as the best to have turned out for their club , though all of them did admit that he is among the finest to have pulled on the famous white shirt.

Cristiano has more goals than Alfredo Di Stefano, considered by many to be Madrid's greatest, but the Argentine great led Los Blancos to five European Cups in the late 1950s and early 1960s and is still highly rated by many.

"It would be unfair of us if we forgot players like Di Stefano, who is one of the greats not only at Real Madrid, but in football," former Madrid goalkeeper Paco Buyo told Goal recently when asked if Ronaldo was the best ever at the club. "I think Cristiano is a true Real Madrid legend for everything he has achieved, but I think it is difficult to say he is the best player to have passed through the club."
And ex Boca Juniors, River Plate and Argentina goalkeeper Hugo Gatti, who played against Di Stefano, told Goal: "He was the best. For me, after Pele, who was the best in the world, the best in history, Alfredo comes next. So the comparison with Cristiano is difficult."

Another Argentine, Diego Maradona, is often mentioned among the game's greatest players and when told in an interview that Cristiano considered himself to be the best ever, the 57-year-old replied: "Tell him to stop taking the p*ss!"

When subsequently asked where he would be in the list if Ronaldo was the best, he said: "Exactly! That's why I tell him to stop taking the p*ss!" And pressed on the greatest he had seen, the World Cup winner added: "From the little that I saw, Alfredo Di Stefano, [Johan] Cruyff and [Lionel] Messi. Cristiano could be up there too."

In terms of goals, he is. The Portuguese has hit 422 in 415 appearances for Real Madrid, with over 545 strikes in his club career and a record 79 (in 147 matches) for his national side.

Football has seen many great goalscorers throughout the years; Jimmy Greaves, Telmo Zarra, Just Fontaine and Gerd Muller among them. However, those names are seldom mentioned among the best players in history.

Manchester City right-back Danilo played with Ronaldo for two seasons at Real Madrid, but said in an interview with Goal : "I always tell my friends there are three players I've seen do otherworldly things in training: Neymar, Isco and Marcelo."
And asked about Ronaldo, he replied: "Oh... Cristiano is a player that wants to score goals, he's a numbers, results guy, it's a little bit different."

Ronaldo's record of 79 goals for Portugal makes him his nation's top scorer. However, many Portuguese still believe Eusebio (who passed away in 2014) to be the country's best-ever player.

The Benfica great, who netted 733 goals in 745 matches in a spectacular career, hit 41 in 64 games for Portugal. Ronaldo, meanwhile, took 106 matches to surpass that figure as he reached 43 strikes with a hat-trick against Northern Ireland in 2013.

“I am saddened because we can’t make that comparison," Eusebio said on Portuguese television when he was surpassed by Cristiano in 2013. "It’s a mistake because I played (around) 60 matches to score that amount (41 goals).
“Now, after all these years, someone else scores (that many goals) but obviously that happens because today it is easier to play some of these teams. I never got to play against Liechtenstein or Azerbaijan."

Ronaldo, of course, has since helped Portugal to victory at Euro 2016, although even that win came after he limped off in the final against France. In any case, while he was named the best Portuguese player of all time by the nation's football federation (FPF) in 2015, he cannot be considered the finest footballer of his generation.

Because that honour belongs to Messi. Although both men are now tied on five Ballons d'Or apiece, the only variable by which the two can really be compared is in their goals. In that respect, it is fairly even. But in every other facet of the game, be it passing, dribbling, vision or creating chances, the Argentine is far superior.

“The Ballon d’Or thing is a little tiresome because it has been moved to a different playing field,” Dani Alves told Goal back in 2014 . “It has moved to the field of opinions and off the field of play. But if we look at the field of play, I think Leo, for as long as he is around, will push the rest into second place.
“Moving away from that, perhaps he has less chance. The winner is often the one who has had the best campaign, or the best publicity campaign."

Ronaldo has more than that. The Portuguese was decisive last season as Real Madrid retained the Champions League, scoring 10 goals from the quarter-finals onwards as Los Blancos beat Bayern Munich, Atletico and Juventus to win their 12th European Cup.

However, Alves was right in that Messi is better. Since Ronaldo's arrival at Real in 2009, the Argentine has a superior scoring record and he hit an unprecedented 91 goals for club and country in 2012.
Even playing often in a deeper role, the 30-year-old has outscored the Portuguese so far in La Liga in 2017-18 (although Cristiano is ahead in Europe) and he contributes much more to his side's overall play. Ronaldo, meanwhile, is something of a goal hanger these days, a player who shoots on sight.

This season, the 32-year-old averages more than six shots per game in La Liga, with as many as 12 in the 1-0 loss to Betis. He shoots much more than Messi at Barca, for example, which helps him to score as many as he does. And although he has also racked up a fair number of assists, that is partly due to his proximity to the goal. Rarely does he beat several players and find a team-mate or produce the kind of defence-splitting passes that Messi does.

Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane was asked recently if he believed Ronaldo was the best in history and said: "Yes. There are lots of players who have been very successful in this club, but no one has achieved what he has, and what he's still going to achieve."
However, any Real boss knows he will need to praise the Portuguese to stay in his good books. During his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, Jose Mourinho often hailed his compatriot, but changed his tune last year when he said: "For me the top three players in history are Messi, Pele and Maradona."

Messi is often mentioned in the same breath as those two South American legends, while Ronaldo has fought to compete with the brilliant Barcelona forward in this era. And the fact he has levelled the Argentine on five Ballons d'Or is testament to his extraordinary drive and dedication to be the best he can.

Cristiano will definitely go down as one of the game's greats and deservedly so. But he is not the best player in the world right now - however many Ballons d'Ors he wins - and he is certainly not the finest footballer in history.

Romance20 Year Old Nigerian Guy Bags 21 Years In Jail For Raping 5 Teenagers In The U.K by VERQUEST111(op): 7:42am On Dec 18, 2017
Eniola Balogun, 20 has been jailed after being convicted of multiple rapes following two trials..

Balogun pleaded guilty at Wood Green Crown Court on 19 September to four counts of rape on four separate teenage girls, aged between 13 and 16 – he also pleaded guilty to the possession of indecent images of child.

Balogun had been found guilty of a further three counts of rape following an earlier trial at the same venue on 30 March. These offences related to one victim – a 16-year-old girl.

He was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, 15 December to a total of 21 years’ imprisonment – the Judge also ordered Balogun is subject to an extended licence period of eight years which will come into effect on his release from prison.
Balogun will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order. Balogun was living with his family in Tottenham at the time of his offending.

Whilst there, between June and August 2016, he persuaded young girls through social media (Snapchat and Instagram) or in the street, to send him indecent photographs.

Armed with these photos, he threatened to distribute the images unless they met up with him. When they met up, he raped them. On all occasions, Balogun took their phones off them and promised to return their phones after sexual contact.

Two of the victims were threatened with violence if they resisted. The five victims, aged between 13 and 16 years old, met up at a variety of locations in Tottenham, Harlow, Thamesmead and Woolwich. Some victims were told to perform sexual acts via video on more than one occasion.
