A couple in Russia has been accused of the murder and consumption of up to 30 individuals.

43-year-old Natalia Baksheeva reportedly convinced her husband — 35-year-old Dmitry Baksheev, who is nicknamed “Devil” — to kill a 35-year-old waitress named Elena Vashrusheva.

Baksheeva reportedly believed that the waitress had been flirting with her husband, according to the Russian Investigative Committee.

According to the Moscow Times, the investigation into the so-called “cannibal couple” began when working men that were repairing a road found a cellphone. When they swiped through the photos and “photos of a man with different parts of a dismembered human body in his mouth,” they handed the phone over to authorities.

After police were able to identify the phone’s owner as Baksheev he was arrested.

An investigation into the incident found that Baksheev then dismembered Vashrusheva’s body and took selfies with the remains. One particular photo showed Baksheev holding a severed hand to his mouth. He also took some of the body parts home to his wife, which were reportedly cooked or refrigerated.

“Genetic experts proved that all samples belonged to the killed woman,” the statement from the committee added.

As it turns out, law enforcement has received a so-called “confession” from Baksheev, who has apparently taken as many as 30 victims over 18 years.

The various victims over the years were allegedly lured by the couple through online dating apps. Apparently, there is an image from 1999 that displays a severed head garnished with oranges on a dinner table that is believed to be associated with Baksheeva and her husband. It’s unclear whether or not the image is being investigated by authorities.

Investigators have not confirmed the validity of this confession, although the evidence found in Baksheeva’s home could corroborate this. According to the Deccan Chronicle, in addition to Vashrusheva’s remains, police also found a jar of pickled remains and 19 slices of skin.

According to CNN, one police source said that “law enforcement had discovered a glass jar with a canned hand,” which can be directly connected to the gruesome selfies found on Baksheev’s phone.

Niger Delta militants, under the aegis of the 'Supreme Egbesu Liberation Fighters', has threatened to destroy infrastructure in Lagos and Abuja.

The group made the threat in a video posted on Tuesday by Africa Independent Television (AIT) and obtained by IgbereTV

The group subsequently nominated former President Goodluck Jonathan and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, to mediate between it and the Nigerian government.

Any insurgency in the South South region will worsen the economic situation in the country as the bulk of Nigeria’s income is derived from oil, which is mined from the area. It will also worsen the state of insecurity in the country which is already fighting insurgency and banditry.

One of the repentant bandits who surrendered their AK47 rifles and ammunition at the chamber of Zamfara Government House yesterday, Amadu Katare, has revealed that he was forced to become a bandit due to the extra-judicial killing of his parents, wives and children by local vigilantes.

Katare disclosed this when he surrendered his weapons to the State Government at the chamber of the State Government House in Gusau, Zamfara State capital.

The repentant bandit noted that there were so many people who turned to notorious bandits due to extra- judicial killings of their relatives.


“Since the coming of Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle and the introduction of his peace movement, we have been following developments to see if it was another deceit, and we have studied the movement and decided to cease fire,” he said.

Katare, therefore, appealed to the federal and state governments to always protect the Fulani people, saying that the Fulani people are being killed on a daily basis.

“I am appealing to the state government to ensure that there is justice and the only way to restore peace is to desist from treating the Fulani people like third class citizens.”


According to him, the outlawed Yansakai members escalated the rate of banditry activities in the state, pointing out that the Yansakai members are still attacking the Fulani people even without any reason.

“There will never be any peace in any society if injustice continues to reign supreme,” he said.

Katare said that every body is believing that Fulani people are the only people responsible for banditry in the state, saying that the Yansakai members are the major problem not the Fulani’s are popularly believed.

He however assured that his group would engage other Fulani bandits to ensure that they embrace the ongoing peace accord and reconciliation process.


Responding, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle said that disarmament would reduce the free movement of arms and ammunition to the barest minimum in the state in particular and the country in general.

Popular Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has declared that bandits are peaceful people.

Gumi said bandits are victims of circumstances.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Islamic teacher, however, condemned the act of criminality by bandits.

He stressed that bandits were forced into criminality.

According Gumi: “When I listened to them, I found out that it is a simple case of criminality which turned into banditry, which turned into ethnic war, and some genocide too behind the scene; people don’t know.

“There is no excuse for any crime; nothing can justify crime, and they are committing crime.

“I think it is a population that is pushed by circumstances into criminality.

“And this is what we should look at, let’s remove the pressure, let’s remove the things that made them into criminals because we have lived thousands of years without any problems with the nomadic herdsmen. They are peaceful people. But something happened that led them to this.”

Bandits have been on the rampage in states like Niger, Katsina and some parts of the North.

In Niger State, bandits had abducted students and staff of Government Science College, GSC, in Kagara.

About 41 persons, most of whom are students and staff of the school were abducted.

Following their renewed onslaught in the North, Gumi had met with some of the bandits, a situation that led to claims of him negotiating with them.

He, however, denied negotiating the release of those abducted.

The Islamic scholar had also advocated for amnesty for bandits.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has warned that it would not fold its hands and watch Muslim students being persecuted in Kwara State.

MURIC said that Kwara is predominantly Muslim State, advising missionary schools owners to take their business to Rivers State instead of trying to change the identity of Muslim children by force, adding that Governor Nyesom Wike is waiting with open arms to accept them..

The group was reacting to the hijab imbroglio going on in the State, wherein some public school teachers were said to have forced female Muslim students to remove their hijab within the school premises.

The development has generated controversy across the State, leading to the closure of ten schools by the State government.

Wading into the matter, MURIC has vowed to take all necessary constitutional measures to stop the oppression of innocent female Muslim pupils across Kwara State.

The position of the Islamic human rights group was contained in a statement issued by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

According to MURIC, “On our own part, we will not allow… evil to prevail in Kwara as they did in some states in the South West on the issue of hijab.

“The authorities of those ten missionary schools should be ashamed of behaving like oppressors and slave masters.

“Yes. We say it boldly, loudly and clearly. Kwara is a predominantly Muslim state. It is absolutely absurd for any group to think it can subject Muslim children to oppression in such a place. Infra dignitatem.

“Take your missionary schools to Rivers State if you want to change the identity of Muslim children by force. Nyesom Wike is waiting with open arms to accept you.

“Afterwards he has illegally declared his state a Christian state in violation of and to the chagrin of Section 10 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. But not in Kwara State.”

The group called on Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to shun all illegal, illegitimate and unconstitutional compromises that could provoke Kwara Muslims in the State.

The Islamic rights advocacy group said it would not surrender its fight but would take all necessary constitutional actions to ensure that female Muslim students used their hijab.

Tragedy struck on Friday, February 19, when a man identified as Kadir allegedly stabbed his younger brother, Suleiman, to death for confronting his wife in Auchi, Etsako West LGA of Edo State.

According to Nigerian Tribune, the brawl started when Suleiman scolded Kadir’s wife for being rude to their mother, and the matter did not go down well with Kadir, who felt slighted that his younger brother had the guts to rebuke his (Kadir’s) wife.

Kadir, who was said to be away when the altercation between his mother and his wife occurred allegedly engaged the victim who was his younger brother in a brawl but, their mother’s intervention calmed frayed their nerves.

Not satisfied, Kadir was said to have revisited the issue later in the day and again, their mother stepped in and calmed the situation. However, while Suleiman put the matter behind him and went about his normal business, his elder later traced the deceased to where he went to late in the evening and allegedly stabbed him, before bolting away.

The state police Command’s spokesperson, Mr Princewill Osaigbovo, who confirmed the incident, disclosed the victim died at the St. Jude Hospital, where he was rushed for medical attention.

The United States has supported the Nigeria Dairy Industry with the first shipment of pregnant Jersey breed dairy cows which have arrived the Ikun Dairy Farm in Ekiti State.

The Ikun Dairy Farm – a joint venture between Promasidor Nigeria Limited and Ekiti State Government – plans to produce 10,000 litres of milk daily, according to a statement issued by the US Consulate on Thursday.

It is also expected to take delivery of two additional shipments of dairy cows from the United States over the next couple of weeks.

To further support the Nigerian dairy industry, Smith noted that the Foreign Agricultural Service of the U.S. Mission was designing a two-week long training programme in the United States for diverse Nigerian dairy stakeholders.
