It is believed that the hackers got access to "Twitter Panel", which is basically hacking one of the Twitter admins/employees. This gives direct admin access to accounts and allows individuals to chance e-mail & password.
Billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates are among several high-profile individuals targeted by hackers on Twitter in an apparent Bitcoin scam.
The official accounts of Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Kanye West also requested donations in the cryptocurrency.
"Everyone is asking me to give back, and now is the time," a tweet from Mr Gates's account said. "You send $1,000, I send you back $2,000." The tweets were deleted just minutes after they first were posted. On the official account of Mr Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX chief appeared to offer to double any Bitcoin payment sent to the address of his digital wallet "for the next hour". "I'm feeling generous because of Covid-19," the tweet added, along with a Bitcoin link address. As well as rapper Kanye West, former US President Barack Obama and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, major companies Uber and the Apple Corporation were targeted. The fact that so many different users have been compromised at the same time implies that this is a problem with Twitter's platform itself.
Early suggestions are that someone has managed to get hold of some sort of administration privileges and bypassed the passwords of pretty much any account they want.
With so much power at their fingertips the attackers could have done a lot more damage with more sophisticated tweets that could have harmed an individual or organisation's reputation.
But the motive seems to be clear - make as much money as quickly as they can. The hackers would have known that the tweets wouldn't stay up for long so this was the equivalent of a "smash and grab" operation.
There are conflicting accounts of how much money the hackers have made and even when a figure is settled upon, it's important to remember that cyber criminals are known to add their own funds into their Bitcoin wallets to make the scam seem more legitimate. Either way, it's going to be very hard to catch the criminals by following the money and law enforcement, as well as many angry users, will have some strong questions for Twitter about how this could have happened.
In the short time it was online, the address displayed in the tweets received hundreds of contributions totalling more than $100,000 (£80,000). The Twitter accounts targeted all have millions of followers.
In my opinion, I think it's no longer as lucrative as it used to be and it's a very sorry situation. A lot of lawyers roaming the streets, they are suffering. Some of the many problems are
1. Too many graduates, little job slots
2. Senior colleagues are not ready to give the younger ones a chance
Most lawyers are "charge and bail" . They roam the streets and advertise their services to potential clients and they don't even have a place to call office. Many of them loiter in court premises all day under the hot sun and await the arrival of the police, hoping that the police would bring some accused persons who do not have lawyers to defend them. The moment this happens, the lawyer would approach the accused (usually agberos, louts and unfortunate Nigerians who the police had decided to transfer his frustrations on. ) and offer his service either directly to the accused persons, or through his relatives or friends who followed him to court. After a certain meagre fee is paid. The lawyer will appear before the magistrate and orally apply for bail, which in most cases would be granted if the offence(s) is a bailable one.
Being a lawyer in today's Nigeria is overrated, studying in school for 5 years to become a lawyer is a waste of time. To me it's more meaningful if used as a part time job while you venture into business or entrepreneurship.
tonylaw07: It's so painful our government is silent on the issue of the US visa denial. I was at the embassy myself 2 weeks ago and I was denied a visitors visa all questions answered correctly cause I filled my ds160 myself. The most annoying part is the embassy never gives any reason for the denial they just say you do not qualify you can try again. 64k try again. An elderly woman of over 60years was denied a visa, abeg my people that kind of woman go run or work there. A naval officer of a high rank was denied visa with his family. Families of 5 where denied, just imagine how much has gone down the drain. They are just swinderling Nigerians because they know there is no refund. The government should look into this and make sure there is either a total refund or part refund and you would see they would stop the nonsense of visa denial without a good reason.
Which naval officer of high rank? Army generals and it's equivalent in the Navy and airforce, past presidents, ministers, senators are usually given diplomatic passports and you know how powerful that is. So you saying a high rank naval officer was rejected is most likely a lie except he wasn't really a high rank.
Modified, they are issued official passports not diplomatic passport. Officials are a little bellow diplomatic and way above the normal green passport. Still it's powerful and Visa denial is extremely rare
Goke7: Before arab spring, these fellows have been here in naija, chai too many kids on nairaland
I can see you're the kid here. One who refused to go to school at that.
Where in my comment did I say they weren't here before the Arab spring? What I said was that many more flooded into West africa during the Arab spring.
NewDelhi: Exactly. Many people think they are fulanis. Fulanis don't look like this. These people are from North Africa. Usually Libya.
Exactly my thoughts .Many people think they are fulanis. I lived in the north east, fulanis actually DO NOT look like this. These people are from North Africa. Usually Libya. From Libya it's easy to enter Niger. See Niger see Nigeria. When they get to Kano , they seek the next truck going to Lagos and other commercial hotspot like onitsha. That's how they spread. They are usually found in commercial places, even in ilorin, you see them around challenge, unity, and young legacy motor park. Been to kwara state once. They are no way fulanis, many of them escaped from Egypt during the Arab spring and Libya during Gaddafi crises. Some even crossed the sea into North Africa and then into West Africa from Syria and Yemen. It's the same way Nigerians and west Africans cross into Europe by sea to seek a better life, people from war torn Syria are coming here too. They are alot of them in Ghana also.
Elimon: These children i see at plaza in Uyo here..they are so cute but thin..i was even approached by one on a good day and his handsomeness and curly hair made me double the money i gave to him.. If i was married.. would have found a way to adopt one
Gjrich: They are not Fulani children. They are the Diffa Arabs from the eastern desert part of Niger republic, close to Libya, though the children are born here in Nigeria. Even in Niger republic, they don't like to intermarry the black nigeriens. Very proud people. The children go out for begging while the parents stay close-by watching from afar.
In Niger, the Arab nomadic tribes are located in the eastern part of the country, mostly in the Diffa region. The Arabs in Niger are known as Diffa Arabs because of this. The Arabs of Niger practice Islam. They speak Arabic and came into Niger from Sudan and Chad at some point during the 19th century. In recent years the Arabs have come into conflict with other ethnic groups in the country, particularly the Hausa, Tuareg, and Kanuri.
I think many of them are from Libya and morroco. They migrated into Niger then flooded Nigeria too
Nigerians eat anything, even rodents. Well it's common in Africa generally tho, it's a survival technique. Reasons the whites call us all sorts .. we've literally failed to glide along with evolution.
NextGovernor: I know how this feel. As a young boy growing up I raised broilers and a certain time I lost almost half of the farm to comboro failure. Baba I almost ran mad. Livestock business is for people that have mind
Seriously livestock is very a horrible biz if you aren't an expert. Raising chickens alone, you can wake up any morning to find one or 2 dead already. Worse still is that they were active the previous day and not showing any sign of illness. Crop farming is far better.
Went for NYSC in Sokoto state (2011). It was a remote village, sparsely populated. I barely go out anyhow but on this fateful day I decided to get something at a nearby shop. Met my secondary school classmate , he owns the shop and he recognized me instantly. The strange part is that we had our secondary school in Lagos and many years apart here he was in Sokoto running a small store. Like I didn't expect to meet any living thing I know in that part of the country. Even if it was the city, it was still understandable but a store in a remote village like that. ? Gosh the odds ehn. I think nature just has a way of twisting fate to suit certain circumstances. That's why I believe there are more dimensions out there in a parallel universe.
Lol if you've never done this, you're probably not a Nigerian. Some people don't have more than 5k in their account but will be telling conductor do you know who I am. All because of 20naira change. Some people also use education to brag too. Just ordinary BSC that you have you start feeling ontop of the world telling your opponents "Do you know who you are talking to?"
It's one reason the west have never believed in herbs. If it's not drugs and vaccines that can generate profit and revenue, they'll condemn it. The pharmaceutical industry, WHO, UNICEF and the likes are highly corrupt, dubious.and inhumane. That's why I still laugh at people who in 2020 still believe there is no cure for AIDs. They know that with a cure, not everyone will be able to afford it so it's better the virus managed which means more revenue.
In a shocking claim the President of Madagascar has said that the WHO offered $20m bribe to poison COVID-19 cure. The herbal remedy called COVID-19 Organics made from Artemisia can cure COVID-19 patients within ten days said the President. He also raised the question that if it was a European country that had actually discovered this remedy, would there be so much doubt?
The President of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina has accused the World Health Organisation of a plot to have its COVID-19 Organics, the local African ‘cure’ for the virus poisoned. Rajoelina claims WHO offered a $20 million bribe to poisoned their medicine, Tanzania Perspective reported on the front-page of its 14th May edition.
The President of Madagascar believes the only reason the rest of the world has refused to treat Madagascar’s cure for the coronavirus with urgency and respect is that the remedy comes from Africa. In an interview with French media, President Rajoelina reportedly said he has noticed what he believes stems from usual condescension toward Africans.
“I think the problem is that (the drink) comes from Africa and they can’t admit… that a country like Madagascar… has come up with this formula to save the world. If it wasn’t Madagascar, and if it was a European country that had actually discovered this remedy, would there be so much doubt? I don’t think so,” said Africa’s youngest head of state, the President of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina.
“What is the problem with Covid-Organics, really? Could it be that this product comes from Africa? Could it be that it’s not OK for a country like Madagascar, which is the 63rd poorest country in the world… to have come up with (this formula) that can help save the world?”
“If it wasn’t Madagascar, and if it was a European country that had actually discovered this remedy, would there be so much doubt? I don’t think so,” said Africa’s youngest head of state, the President of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina.
The remedy, COVID Organics, is made from Artemisia, a plant imported into Madagascar in the 1970s from China to treat malaria. Artemisia has had proven success against malaria and according to President Rajoelina it can cure COVID-19 patients within ten days.
However, the WHO has criticized such natural therapeutic measures against the coronavirus as blind faith. In response to the skepticism with which the WHO is treating the COVID Organics, Rajoelina said, “No country or organisation will keep us from going forward.”
A host of other African countries including, Tanzania, Guinea-Bissau, DR Congo and Niger, have imported the Madagascan made recipe.
Meanwhile, in yet another African nation Nigeria, Bill Gates has been caught bribing forced Coronavirus program. Based on an intercepted human intelligence report, a controversy has erupted in Nigeria whereby it is revealed that Bill Gates offered $10 million bribe for a forced vaccination program for Coronavirus to the Nigerian House of Representatives. The opposition political parties rejected the “foreign-sponsored Bill” mandating the compulsory vaccination of all Nigerians even when the vaccines have not been discovered and demanded the Speaker be impeached if he forces the bill on members.
The Madagascar controversy has erupted days after Tanzania kicked out WHO after Goat and Papaya samples came COVID-19 Positive. With the rise in false Coronavirus cases, the Tanzanian President John Magufuli growing suspicious of the World Health Organization (WHO), decided to investigate the claims himself. He sent the WHO samples of a goat, a papaya and a quail for testing. After all 3 samples came COVID-19 positive, the Tanzanian President is reported to have kicked out WHO from the country.
Following the Tanzanian lead Burundi also kicked out entire WHO Coronavirus Team from the country for interference in internal matters. In a letter addressed to WHO’s Africa headquarters, the foreign ministry says the four officials must leave by Friday.
