When it comes to the no mans land mantra, ibos are always the culprit whether in Abuja, Lagos, indeginous Niger Delta Peoples land and anywhere else in the world. The spirit of greed and arrogance in an average iboman is so overwhelming that they dont know how bad it is whenever they are exhibiting it. One kenny987 has been persistently quoting me, insisting that such attributes (over the top greed and pride) is actually a good thing. The thing just tire me my brother
GboGboAye:
What is wrong with you?
Politics › Re: Is Abuja A No Man's Land ? by vicadex07(m): 3:47am On Aug 17, 2015
Lol...but u initially denied being igbo. I wouldnt have bothered replying you if you were upfront with me abt your identity cos you will never reason with me wether I am stating the fact or not...afterall the ego of an igboman like you just postulated is more important than anything else...like the truth
kenny987:
U know, our back and forth so far has been on why u chose to insult a tribe and call them rodents that cause bitterness and strife. I still maintain that it was an uncivilised and unbecoming thing to do. Being proud/arrogant is Chinua's opinion and like I said, a statement of fact primarily because the Igbos have never been given to servitude from the word go. Unlike what is obtainable in the North and West where the monarchical system holds supreme, it is not the same in Igbo land. Just about anything can offend anyone so even a certain level of confidence can be interpreted as a 'disregard for humility and quietness' and deemed offensive but the Igbo man does not look down on other traditions. He sees them, acknowledges them and remains who he is. Unfortunately one or more may be offended but it is what it is and certainly not a weakness.

I have not bothered with the no man's land trivia because it comes with various perspectives that yield different interpretations depending on a point of view. Still, Lagos belongs to the indigenes and residents of Lagos. No one can get up, decide to profile and evict any group of persons because they are not of a particular ancestral origin. Traditions are in place and no one should expect the Igbo or other tribes to bow and lose their identity because they sojourned from other lands. There has to be cohesion and understanding. No one should threaten the others and expect them to remain bowed in obeisance. Certainly not the Igbo man.

Finally, u presumed wrong. I am Igbo not from Benin.

This is AFRICA,with its various cultures and traditions like no other place. It's traditions are so unique that you can go to a town and move just 20 mins to another town and you will experience a mode of speaking ,dressing and food from the previous town. Hence every town has its indigenous people and culture regardless of location so its people and culture MUST be respected . Whoever calls another man's land a no man's land, is obviously a BASTARD and land grabber who is not proud of his own HERITAGE. END OF STORY!!!

That is not what chinua achebe called it. Stop twisting words and replying me with leghty thesis.
Noisy exhibitionism means unhealthy pride and arrogance. It is a human weakness and its morally wrong. He also stated that such behaviour can "offend". Such igbotic attitude is irritating and negative hence the backlash it attracts to itsefl nationwide. This assertion of mine is the true state of this or else you no longer agree with chinua achebes statement which you have previously agreed to be factual. I implore you yet again, stop twisting words in your postulations

"There is no doubt at all that there is a strand in contemporary Igbo behaviour that can offend; by its noisy exhibitionism and disregard for humility and quietness"
.............Chinua Achebe.
kenny987:
Nope, it is no weakness to be able to take an initiative, act on it and stand by your actions without waiting for someone to spoon-feed u and give u the go-ahead to breathe! That is why ur people allow bitterness, anger, distrust and negative emotions because the Igbos are go-getters, u cannot do the same, they come to your place and excel and then u begin to have issues. Again it is in their nature to travel and spread out which is no weakness either. That he believes respect is reciprocal and in fact earned rather than confer god-like status on a person with unconditional reverence is also not a weakness.

I tried to explain to you what the Igbo has as his culture and all you did was attempt to reduce it to a weakness. Naturally I ask you, what makes you think you are more superior to another? So that his culture is a 'weakness' or fault? One would expect that you would understand the differences and see the need for one to accommodate the other and vice-versa but no, your default setting is to denigrate that which you can't understand or attain. That is what makes u people call them names and express unfounded anger. It is pointless really.
Politics › Re: Is Abuja A No Man's Land ? by vicadex07(m): 2:07am On Aug 17, 2015
What your'e saying in essence is that the igbo has a peculiar weakness which should be overlooked
kenny987:
Like I said, the Igbo will react if you threaten what his his whether life or property. Until Rilwan Akiolu did the lagoon threat crap did any Igbo person in any part of the SW denigrate any seat of authority? If any check well, there was provocation. He may not dobale or prostrate but he will not interfere in your activity either. However when u threaten him he will get in your face and let you have it. U will agree with me that they are peaceful people and do not go about killing or forcibly taking over properties unlike what Northerners do sometimes.

As you rightly said we come from different ethnic groups and we must learn to understand our differences. The Igbo culture is more inclusive and more of a confederation. Different families and units are autonomous unto themselves with representatives up to the Igwe's council. Power is not unilaterally reposed in one person and units and chiefs must be in agreement before decisions are taken. That is the Igbo man's culture and reality. He is already used to some level of authority and ability to take decisions and act for himself and his immediate unit/clan up to a certain level. That naturally confers some arrogance, if you will, on him. That is why I preach tolerance and understanding, cos if u attempt to threaten or cow him in any way, he will not wait for the approval of the Igwe or Oba to act. The Igbos respect their elders but cannot be dictated to. There must be a consensus to arrive at any major point.

Have you seen any other ethnicity apart from the igbo openly denigrating, insulting and boasting about just anything to their host community? Will an hausa man or yorubaman goto enugu and insult their people or monarchy without any backlash. This is Africa and we all have respectable values and cultures. In Yorubaland we respect our elders and revere our royalty. Yes we are all citizens of the same country but we are also indegenous to diffrent ethnic groups.
kenny987:
That is where you have gotten it wrong, calling or seeing them as tenants or in this case settlers/visitors. While they may not claim ancestral roots to whatever region outside Igbo land, he is a bonafide citizen of Nigeria. He assimilates and mixes with the people but he will not roll over and play dead. He pays his way through same as everyone else so while there may be friction here and there, what exactly justifies the hatred and jealousy on the part of the hosts as you have said? Should the Igbo remain the way he came? He works hard so he must grow and expand. He will also protect the result of his sweat and the moment he feels threatened he will naturally react, especially when u try to forcibly convert what is his.

To be notoriously arrogant and insultive with disregards for human feelings spawns jealousy and hatred which degenerates into bitter enmity. Can a tenant come into your fathers house and poke fun at his daughters or his building without him taking offense even though he has commited no crime. There is what we all know as common sense and morality. Something doesnt have to be illegal before it is being frowned upon and proved to be wrong morally
kenny987:
Just whom do u expect the Igbos to show humility to? You can only expect that when you give them lands and businesses free of charge or they carry out their activities tax-free. However, since that is not the case and they as well as everyone else are guaranteed under law the freedom to move and trade wherever they deem fit and as citizens of Nigeria, then expecting humility, quietness or non-exhibitionism is an absolute waste of time. Provided he breaks no law wherever he resides then you still have no justification for calling them rodents that cause u bitterness and strife. You see, I told you you'd come up empty. Chinua's statement is an observation of fact and is not in anyway an indictment or pronouncement of wrongdoing. You or any other person may be offended but it is the nature of some and there's nothing u can do about it.

Isn't it such a shame? If it is in the nature of one to be confident, exhibit his prowess at whatever he does and so on, how is it an issue? Is it a crime? Criminals abound and cut across all tribes and races so it is not peculiar to one. Fact is, curse or say all u want, it is only an exercise in futility for you and doesn't affect the Igbo man in any way. I only called your attention because it was just completely unprovoked, out of place and uncivilized. Live and let live.

Just a simple question and you already throw abuses. Infesting regions with strife and bitterness? Rodents? This is the result of hearing and parroting one thing too many times, it assumes the appearance of truth but if you are asked to come up with justification for calling your people such names or claiming that they cause strife and bitterness you will come up empty. There will be no substance to whatever you try to bring up as your proof. Take time out and think...decide whether being insulting especially without good cause is a worthwhile venture to embark upon.

ibadantiti:
7:34 pm, August 15, 2015 Opinion
Dear Abo’baku,
Good day sir, wherever you may be and reading this letter.
I write to you, not as a son of Ile-Ife where you held fort, but as a true son of Oduduwa, our progenitor.
I have read in the media with utter disgust, how you braved the night and escaped from the palace of the Ooni at a time your services are most needed. Whatever informed your decision, I appeal that you reconsider your

action and come back home and be counted among true sons of the ancient kingdom and as ardent believer in the tradition from which you benefited so much since 1980 when you chose to take up the title of Ab’oba ku to Oba Sijuwade.
While you held court as the Ab’oba ku of Ife, I never for once envied your ‘exalted’ position knowing that as the Ab’oba ku, you will die alongside the king.
You knew more than I do, the demands of the office to you occupied in the palace as the Ab’obaku of the ‘Source’. May I remind you that your job, among others, was to serve the Ooni whilst he lived and also attend to him in the afterlife.
You should be reminded of the famous Yoruba adage that says, Eyele kii b’onile je, ko b’onile mu, ko di ojo iku ko yeri, (A pigeon does not wine and dine with its owner and abandon him in death).
Already, your action has caused a lot of embarrassment not only to the royal throne of Ile-Ife, but to the entire Yoruba race. Though born many years after independence, I have not known of any of the numerous Ab’oba ku in palaces across Yorubaland that had acted the way you did.
May be you never knew, but there are fears now that many people holding similar office as you in Yorubaland could be considering what is now being regarded as “The Ab’oba ku Option;” a strange terminology in Yoruba lexicon. This, some elders say, would not only demystify the revered Yoruba culture and tradition, but could spell doom for its continued relevance.
As at last count, there are about five persons declared missing in Ile-Ife after the dreaded Oro cult went round the kingdom. Some now say if you had not absconded, there probably would be no need going after innocent souls to take your place in the burial rites.
Some are even trying to subject your action to legal interpretation but are usually reminded that the constitutionally guaranteed right to life does not extend to an Ab’oba ku in Yoruba land.
I plead of you to save Ile-Ife and the rich Yoruba culture, the embarrassment that surely will follow it due to your preference for affluence and ephemeral wealth.
Soon, there would be a coronation of another Ooni which means that that another Ab’oba ku would also accompany him to the palace. I have no doubt that anyone angling for that hitherto exalted position in the new dispensation would become an object of scorn and derision all due to your lily-
livered action.
I plead that you can come out of hiding and take your rightful place in history, since the burial rites for the Oni is now over. I am sure you would come back a hero, but where you fail to show up, your action would consign your descendants to perpetual ignominy.

And whos is the ondo man ruling lagos...a rumor oba akiolu debunked himself? Believe politicians at your own peril if PDP is your source of info. They desperately employed all available means to defeat APC and lying is the least of them
huangcheng:
Hypocrisy! You change the goal post whenever it favors you. How many Lagosians have Governed your state? How many non-indigene have Governed any Yoruba state? So why is it normal for an Ondo man to Govern Lagosians. Nobody will take that nonsense and you know it but because it favors you, you're OK with the status quo. That's colonization by trick or false pretense.
Politics › Re: Some History On Lagos And Yoruba Migration - Nigerpeople by vicadex07(m): 11:29pm On Aug 16, 2015
Yorubas are not tribalist like ibo people who usually claim that an igboman from imo state is different from and inferior to an igboman in abia. If you're probably an igboman from anambra and you're resident in enugu, do you mean to tell me enugu igbos are going to discriminate against you and chase you outta town (well i remember this has happened in igboland for real sha).

The point is Yorubas are not as intollerant and unaccomodating as your people who would rather deport an enugu man resident in abia. I wonder how biafra is going to stand amongst you people
huangcheng:
You're missing the point in the message.

Don't you think Lagosians will like to rule themselves instead of having an Ondo man ruling their land. I am sure if a Lagosian should travel to contest an election in Ondo state, he will be reminded that he is not an indigene of Ondo state. So why forcefully take over their land and claim it is a Yoruba land hence it is free for any Yoruba to rule.

I am speaking on behalf of the indigenous Lagosians whose voices have been drowned by the majority Yoruba migrant.
Lagos is for Lagosians
Osun is for Osunites
Ondo is for Ondoites
Yorubaland for everybody etc etc.
