Education / See UNICAL New Year Resolutions - So Weird by vickysomtee: 3:55pm On Jan 09, 2017
The Resolutions reached by the University Of Calabar, Calabar (UNICAL) Senate Council in her last senate meeting.

A Memo signed by the School authority has been sent to all the HODs .

Below are SOME of the Resolutions;

1. From now henceforth there will be nothing like Part Payment of School Charges. This means you must pay your School Charges 100% no more 60% First Semester and 40% Second Semester (No More Installments).

2. All Departments, Faculties and Colleges dues will be done in the Bank ( i.e Faculty Handbook, Dues, Department Dues, Department Registration Charges and Handbook, Course Registrations, Carry Over Courses Re-registration, Department Defense etc). No student is entitled to make payment to anybody whatsoever, if you do by mistake or intentionally you must surely face the repercussion, meaning no proof of your payment no exams. Go and verify which bank your Department is to pay to
.

3. There is nothing like 'E' again as a score in Unical. From now now it will be A, B, C, D, and F (0 - 44 = F). Reasons being that some Departments would have lost accreditation including your Department in the just concluded accreditation exercises by the NUC Accreditation Teams in December because they were still grading students with 'E' as Pass.

4. All results will be out on or before Monday January 9th, 2017 as demanded by the DVC Academics and henceforth students will be seeing their results before going on vacation or 1st week of resumption.

5. If you fail 5 courses in one session (Not Semester), you are out of the University Of Calabar.

The School Authority has ordered all HODs to follow the new Memo strictly.
Finally, the Management regrets any inconveniences these new Resolutions will cause.

Education / FG Warns Jambites Against Choosing Unauthorised Courses In Institutions by vickysomtee: 12:50pm On Jan 09, 2017
Federal Government, warns all Nigerian institutions that holds or run illegal programmes which is not inline with their mandate to stop with immediate effect
The Government described it as situation whereby a university of agriculture will be running courses like Accounting, medicine, banking and finance, business administration and so on, of which some institution later change the terminology of such course to Banking Engineering, Accounting Technology.

The spokesman,Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said that the minister of education, Mallam Adamu adamu has told JAMB to delete such courses on its portal.
He also added that candidates sitting for the UTME exams should not apply such programmes as they are not legal to jamb

He described specialised universities as those set up to pursue specific courses and programmes to generate manpower in particular sectors of the economy.
He said, “Some of these specialised institutions include universities of agriculture, universities of technologies and universities of medicine, amongst others.
The Federal Government has observed that these institutions have derailed from their statutory responsibilities, thereby running programmes that are antithetical to their mandates.

The government notes the unfortunate situation where Universities of Agriculture offer programmes in Law, management courses such as Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, among others.

It described this as aberration which must stop with immediate effect.

ABUSE BY APPROVED CBT CENTRES AND CYBER CAFÉ OPERATORS
 It has been observed by the Board, that in the past, there were lots of irregularities during registration of candidates. Some of which are as follows:
1. IRREGULARITIES OBSERVED
 Off-line registration means that candidates are given template form to fill and enter their details and the Registration centres would later enter their data for them on-line at a later time when the candidates were not present.
 Registration Centres did off-line registration for candidates and in the process of completing them on-line, mismatched their images and made mistakes in the candidates’ data.
 Registration Centres deliberately went to the hinterland to register candidates off-line in order to create Special Centres where they could further perpetrate Irregularities during examinations.
 Punish uncompromising candidates by changing their centres and/or institutions without their knowledge/consent.
 Swapped and replaced particulars of uncompromising candidates with others and used money paid for other candidates.
MEASURES TAKEN BY THE BOARD
 Payment for access code by Registration Centres has been cancelled. All systems in the Registration Centre will be enabled for the registration.
 None of these systems therefore can be used for registration outside the Registration Centre.
 Candidates will now have access to all the systems at the Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre for the registration exercise.
 This is unlike before where only one system was used by the Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre for registration.
 Candidates will be properly educated to understand that their registration numbers are private and security numbers which they must not divulge.
 Any candidate who discloses his/her registration number, does so at his/her own risk.
 An alert system has been created for notifications on changes in the candidates details at each stage of the registration process.
ACCOUNTABILITY IN REGISTRATION CENTRES
 Registration Centres are hereby urged to appoint credible staff to man their Centre to ensure credibility and accountability.
 It has also been observed that some Public Registration Centres refused registration because of “low return”.
 These returns are not low as claimed but officers in charge do not remit appropriately.

Education / Jamb Boss Allegedly Accused For N3.5billion Fraud by vickysomtee: 1:44pm On Jan 02, 2017
Jamb boss, Prof.Ishaq Oloyede, has been accused of N3.5 Billion fraud by the Academic staff Union of the university of illorin, which he then worked as the vice chancellor of the school

The union followed a petition “Complaint of fraudulent practices by Professor IO Oloyede and Professor AG Ambali as immediate past and current vice chancellors respectively of the University of Ilorin: Pension fraud and other financial and economic crimes,”
the duo were said to have been involved in pension fraud, unremitted deductions, extortion from students, contract inflation and kick-backs; as well as unlawful payments to ex-principal officers of the university

The JAMB Boss has however denied the accusations stating that he operated a transparent system within the period he served the university as vice chancellor. He called on the anti- graft agency, EFCC, to investigate the allegations and take necessary action after establishing the truthfulness of the case brought before it by the union.

With this new development, Candidates awaiting the announcement of 2017 UTME registration can only pray and hope that this does not slow down the pace of things

Education / Four Important Steps To Take Before Choosing An Institution In This Coming UTME by vickysomtee: 1:33pm On Jan 02, 2017
Choosing of institutions these days may look easy to some students, they feel of think its all about making the choice during UTME registration, but its far beyond that.
Institutions have great impact and effects on students irrespective of their courses, because on the variable in Nigerian schools facilities/equipments.
Read attentively, the steps I advice you take before choosing an institution.

1. Do not choose a school because your friend or cousin or relative is in the institution or he/she also chooses the institution, inculcate that ability to make your own choice,as this will help you alot.

2. Never look at a school public standard before making your choice. Most students choose a school because of the school has a high or low population or they are ranking first among other institution, vice versa
Yes, a school with high rank is good but never forget "All that glitters isent gold". They may rank first because of their excellence in one aspect and not in all aspect,Which may not be favourable to you as a fresher.

3.Always consider your course, while choosing a school. Most students choose a school which will not favour their course, in the sense that some schools lack in facilities and equipments that facilitates a better understanding of a course, some even lack good lecturers for the course. That the reason why many graduates don't really know how to work in the field of course they graduated with.
Make sure you research, investigate on any school you want to choose, research if they offer your course and how good they are on the course.

4. I will strongly advice you never to be forced by anyone to choose an institution and even a course, you know your ability and what you can study and also ascertain your ability while you were in secondary school, makes researches on schools. So many students now regret been forced to pick a school as they find it hard to adapt to the school environment.

Once you have taken the above measures, I assure you of a Sound and safe studing.
Also remember to put it
into prayers.
I Drop my pen.
