Four members of the same family– a father, mother and their two kids– have been crushed to death by a truck laden with bags of rice. https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/The-truck-and-the-family-360x225.jpg The accident was said to have happened along the Iwo-Ibadan Road in Osun State. A passenger in a commercial bus, who witnessed the accident, told our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday that Mr. and Mrs. Olumide Bankole; their children, Sharon and Shama, were crushed to death by the truck which lost control in an attempt to avoid running into a queue of vehicles on the road due to a police checkpoint. The eyewitness, who identified himself as Leke Okunola, said rescuers at the scene learnt that the family was traveling from Ogbomoso in Oyo State to Ibadan when the accident occurred around Odo Oba River on Christmas Eve. He said the car in which the Bankoles were travelling was coming from Iwo and heading towards Ibadan, while the truck was coming from Ibadan. The eyewitness blamed the accident on the police checkpoint, saying if the road block was not there, the accident would have been avoided. Okunola said, “The car in which the victims were travelling was coming from the opposite direction and after the police had checked him, he moved, but a trailer which was loaded with bags of rice lost control and fell on the car. “The truck was on top speed. The driver saw a long queue of vehicles caused by the police checkpoint. The driver did not want to ram into the vehicles on the queue and veered off the lane. That was when the car was cleared to go. “The driver of the car saw the truck and drove into the bush. The truck driver, however, lost control and fell on the car. “The driver of the car, his wife and two children, including a baby, were all dead by the time they were rescued from under the truck.” He added that the victims were trapped under the truck for close to five hours before their mangled bodies were removed by rescuers. A lady, who was said to have been given a free ride by the family, was said to have survived, but her hand was reportedly chopped while being pulled out from the wreckage. Okunola added that some chickens inside the boot of the car survived the tragic accident and flew out when rescuers opened the boot. The Chairman of the Non Academic Staff Union at the Osun State University, Mr. Isaiah Fayemi, who is an in-law to the Bankoles, said the family had been thrown into deep mourning since the accident happened. He called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, and the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr. Abubakar Marafa, to investigate the cause of the accident and punish whoever was found culpable. Fayemi said, “I learnt that the accident was caused by a police checkpoint. We will involve our lawyer in the case. We want the police to investigate the cause of the accident. I was told that two policemen had been arrested for the tragedy.” The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, said investigation into the matter was ongoing. Also, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Osun State, Mr. Mohammed Hussein, said the accident did not happen within his area of jurisdiction. He said that the area where the accident happened fell under the jurisdiction of the Mokola Unit in Oyo State. source:http://naijafussion..com/2015/01/truck-crushes-parents-two-kids-to-death.html |

The pastor of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, TB (Temitope Balogun) Joshua, took some of the relatives of the 85 South Africans killed in the church’s guesthouse that collapsed on September 12 on a shopping spree on Christmas day. Joshua was also reported to have showered the relatives with cash and gifts, a South African newspaper, Daily News reported. One of the bereaved, 47-year-old Wonder Ndlovu, whose husband was killed in the building collapse, was among the first group to spend time with the pastor after the tragedy. She was quoted by the newspaper as saying that she and others who visited Nigeria had a “nice time, went shopping and stayed in beautiful hotels.” Ndlovu stated that before they went out shopping, they were taken to the building collapse site where the televangelist was said to have laid his hands on and prayed for the relatives. “We met with the man of God (Joshua) and he briefed us about the site visit. Wiseman Harry and other evangelists took us there; it was very emotional for me, but others were strong and comforting. I brought flowers from South Africa and laid them with my son. It is ugly. Looking at the building foundations we are convinced it was an attack,” the widow said. She added, “The prophet is full of surprises. After weeping, he took us to the city to see places. To our surprise, we shopped till we dropped and the bill was on him. We were having the time of our lives, forgetting the pain of the past and looking forward to picking up the pieces and moving on. Yesterday has gone by, but tomorrow is forever. “He (Joshua) took us to a five-star posh hotel for dinner, fine food and drinks. The hotel is in Victoria Island. After chilling, we came back in his luxurious kombis. (There were) more surprises while (we were) preparing to sleep. The mamas who took us shopping knocked and presented us with N50, 000 each and they said we (must not) use all our (own) shopping money… I just sang A huna ya tshwana le yena (there’s no one like him).” https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Pastor-TB-Joshua-360x225.jpg According to the South African newspaper, the popular televangelist invited 44 family members of the deceased for Christmas dinner and many of them accepted. Speaking from Nigeria, Kirsten Nematandani, a spokesman for the church based in South Africa, confirmed toDaily News that a second group would visit this month. Meanwhile, some of the KZN families who have received invitations to meet Joshua this month said they would gladly go. Another South African, 29-year-old Simphiwe Ngcobo, said the trip to the Nigeria would help him connect “spiritually” with his parents, Dickie and Dennis Ngcobo. He said he was excited about the trip and would travel with a relative this month. “It is important for us to go to the site and pay our respects to our loved ones. We have accepted their death and we are moving on. We could have gone with the first group of families but we decided to be with the family over Christmas. We have no qualms against anyone, which is why we have gladly accepted this wonderful gesture from the man of God,” he said. Reverend Eric Myeni, whose 29-year-old son, Sabelo, died in the September 12 collapse, also accepted Joshua’s invitation. “We need to overcome what has happened by showing our faith in Christ. We can never reverse our adversity. But with hope in the lord we can overcome the pain suffered,” he said. When our correspondent contacted the church through one of the phone numbers provided on SCOAN website, to confirm the report of the relatives’ visit and the shopping spree paid for by Joshua, a lady who picked the phone said “yes.” source:http://naijafussion..com/2015/01/synagogue-tragedy-tb-joshua-takes.html |
Armed men later discovered to be kidnappers, struck at about 7pm on December 4, 2014, in Ikorodu area of Lagos. The kidnappers who operated in a Toyota vehicle, veered off its lane in a commando-like manner and blocked a vehicle . Two armed men reportedly jumped out of the vehicle and ordered its lone occupant, later discovered to be the Managing Director of a popular hotel around the area, to come down. They whisked him away. https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/native-doctor-copy.gif They reportedly took their victim identified as Durodola Muwalu to a shrine in Imobi, in the Ijebu waterside area, where they kept him for a week before they relocated him to Imoru, all in Ogun state. From their hideout , they made a call to their victim’s family demanding a ransom of N60million. The amount was later reduced to N10million when it became obvious that the family was not forth coming with a reasonable response. Unknown to the kidnappers, operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS , Ikeja, were keeping tab on every telephone conversation, consequent upon which they (operatives), swooped on their hideout in Ijebu-Ode , on December 15, 2014 , where four of the suspected kidnappers identified as Felix Ikuomola, GbengaPopoola, Adebayo Akibu and AzeezOlowu were arrested and thier victim rescued. However, during interrogation , the suspects disclosed that they were hired by one of the traditional rulers in Itokin area of Ikorodu, whom they named as Oni Adekoya, aka Agbogidi . They further revealed that Muwalu, the victim, was later discovered not to be the actual target afterall, stating that their actual target was onwer of the hotel whom Adekoya accused of giving other chiefs cars but left him out. Mild drama A mild drama unfolded during interrogation after the alleged mastermind , Oni Adekoya, aka Agbogidi , exchanged banters with other suspects , over his allaged involvemnet. While he insisted he knew nothing about the kidnap , other suspects claimed he promised to share the ransom with them had they succeeded . In an interview with Crime Guard, the suspects told all they knew about the botched kidnap. First was the traditional ruler, Adekoya, who was allaged to be the brain behind the entire operation. He started by taking what he assumed as an oath of truth , saying : “I swear by my profession as a herbalist that I do not know what they are talking about. I have been a herbalists for 27 years . “” Gbenga ( one o fthe suspects ) called me one day to say that he wanted to kidnap Baale and I told him to go ahead. When the gang eventually kidnapped the victim, I was not there. I later I received a call from them, informing that they had succeeded in the operation and that they were in the bush. Three days later, another member of the gang, Azeez, called to inform me that they needed money to buy fuel for the operational vehicle. I asked him why they haven’t released the victim and they said it was because they were yet to get any ransom. I was afraid that they could kill the victim. I requested to speak with the victim on phone and they obliged me. Earlier , Gbenga’s mother confided in me that her son decided to kidnap the victim because he offended him” Asked why he was keen on knowing the fate of the victim since he claimed not to have a hand in the kidnap saga, he explained that : “ Gbenga is one of my clients . I knew him when he came to my shrine with his mother and wife , saying they needed me to carry out sacrifice for their unborn child. They told me that a Pastor directed them to carry out the sacrifice in order to ensure safe delievery for his pregnant wife. I prepared the sacrifice for them and they went their way. Unfortunately the baby died few days after his wife put to bed. I later realized that they didn’t complete the entire process of the sacrifice properly. This was how we started interacting. I have no hand in the kidnap …” You are a liar ! At this junture, Gbenga Popoola interupted by yelling “You are a liar! ( turning to Adekoya). I was in a viewing center when I received a call from Ojurongbea (a member of the gang who is currently at large) that Baba Oni aka Agbogidi had a job for us. I asked him why he wanted to kidnap the owner of the hotel, he said he was a fraudster and that his fraudulent activities had affected his herbalist business. It took us three weeks to plan for the success of the kidnap . After we concluded plans for the operation, it was Agbogidi( pointing at Adekoya) who took one of us, Felix, to the venue of the operation before we struck. On the day of the operation he did not go with us for fear of being recognized by the victim. What he did was to give us instruction on what to do through the phone. My role “ I was the one who carried the pump-action rifle on that day . And I make bold to declare that Agbogidi (Adekoya) and Ojurongbe contracted me to help them deal with the hotel owner. So for him to say he knew nothing about it is a big lie! In actual fact, our target was the owner of the hotel. Unfortunately, his car was driven by the hotel’s manager on the day of the operation. From the onset, I smelt trouble because on the day of the operation, I noticed some foul play from Agbogidi(Adekoya). When we discovered that the kidnapped man was not the actual victim, we were disturbed . But we were reassured by Adekoya that we would get something good as ransom. Unfortunately, the family was yet to pay anything before we were arrested.” Immediately this reporter approcahed another suspected member of the gang, Felix Ikuomola, he collaborated Gbenga’s claim. Without mincing words, he stated “ I swear to God who created me that it was Agbogidi that contracted every member of the gang for this operation. He told us that the victim had money and that if we kidnapped him, we would make money out of it. I personally asked him how much he was going to pay us for the job and he said that whatever amount paid as ransom would be shared equally among us. On two occassions, we even met in his office to discuss on the success of the operation. He even assurred that he would protect us if we were caught by the police in the process of carrying out the operation. He boasted also that he knew top echelons in the Police Force that would get us out” We reduced the ransom out of frustration On his part, Adebayo Abiku revealed that N60 million was initially demanded as ransom but that they had to come down to N5 million out of frustration. According to Abiku (40) who claimed to have driven the gang’s operational vehicle: “ We initially demanded for N60 million as ransom. But the person that was speaking with us begged that the amount be reduced because they did not have that much . But after a long wait in the bush and several relocations for fear of being caught by the Police, we decided to first reduce the ransom to N10 million . Yet the family was not forth coming with the amount. We later reduced it to N5 million”. I participated because I needed money At a point, he became sober and continued in an emotional laden tone “I participated in the operation because I needed money. I drove the gang during the entire operation. On that day, we blocked our victim’s vehicle while he was driving home and asked him to come with us ” Confessing to the crime, 38-year-old AzeezOlowu said he supplied the gang with the rifle but denied being in the know of the kidnap . The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police , DSP said investigation in the case was still on going , with a view to apprehending other fleeing members of the gang. It is often said that because it is a new year doesn’t mean everything will automatically become new. That might be true for some sectors, but Nigeria’s tech world, there is bound to be a lot of new changes come 2015. Glamtech sheds light on juicy surprises to expect in the New Year. https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/nigcomsat.jpg The return of Nitel One of the most exciting developments 2015 is expected to bring is the rebranded return of the moribund Nigerian Telecommunications Limited, NITEL, and its mobile arm, Mobile Telecommunications, MOBITEL. Recall that with a bid price of $252. 25 million, NATCOM finally became the preferred bidder for NITEL after years of haggling among different bidders. That is no longer news. But industry sources say that the new company is set to launch next year and is currently in partner with a major telecom operator to get the right structures in place. What’s more, tariffs on the new NITEL are expected to be cheaper than on other networks. Could this mark the re-emergence of landlines? No one knows for sure, but it wouldn’t be the first time talk about going back to landlines would be coming up in tech circles. In fact, at the 2nd West Africa Conference on Electromagnetic Fields, EMF, and Health, experts debated that in the long run, landlines could be considered as safer for the general well being of people than mobile phones. Cheaper calls If reports of the new NITEL’s cheaper tariffs are anything to go by, then calls might just become even cheaper across all networks because of the new competition. This would be good for the industry as a report in early 2014 revealed that Nigerians have one of the highest tariffs in the world. Broadband penetration Even though Nigeria has at least 120 million active lines, broadband penetration still stands at a meagre 6%. This is not expected to remain so for long as the Minister of Communication Technology, Dr. Omobola Johnson, and other high ranking officials in the sector have been campaigning for more and more investment in the area of broadband. More start ups, inventions and contribution to GDP The dwindling oil prices and consequent cuts in the 2015 budget mean that other sectors are becoming more and more essential in their contributions to the country’s Gross Domestic Product. Information and communication technology, ICT, accounted for 9.58% of Nigeria’s GDP in 2014. With a growing enabling environment for more start ups and inventions, this percentage is very likely to increase in 2015. FORMER Chief whip of the senate, Senator Rowland Owie has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He said the call became necessary following alleged recent revelations of fraudulent activities perpetrated during the tenure of the former President whom he described as an anti- democrat. https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/obj.jpg While declaring that President Goodluck Jonathan will emerge victorious despite the challenges being faced by his administration, Owie asserted that former President Obasanjo was the architect of the problems being suffered today by Nigerians due to his alleged misrule and failure to create jobs for the youths of the North and other parts of the country. “And that is why today immediately he left Boko Haram started killing Nigerians in the North because Obasanjo’s regime failed to create jobs for our youths” he said. According to him, “I read in the papers yesterday of shocking revelations of fraud perpetrated by Obasanjo’s administration. I urge the police and the EFCC to start investigating these allegations immediately. Some of us have been saying it that Obasanjo’s regime has been the most corrupt regime that ever ruled this country. “In the Benin Kingdom before the arrival of the whiteman, who diluted our culture with regards to corrupt practices, a man like Obasanjo with such corrupt practices, ought to just take his bath and leave a note of apology for his well wishers and the Kingdom for diverting the common wealth of the people and go to Zegbele. “Obasanjo is the worst that had happened to Nigeria. He should be probed by EFCC publicly. Jonathan is working day and night to clean up the mess he left behind yet he cannot see any thing good in the man and for some of us it is satanic” he asserted. http://naijafussion..com/2014/12/obasanjos-regime-most-corrupt-regime.html |
Boko Haram: We will end their reign of terror – Buhari Former Head of State, Gen Muhammadu Buhari(retd) has condemned the bombings in Kano and Jos, saying the actions of the terrorists, not sanctioned by any religion, will not succeed. In a statement by the All Progressive Congress presidential candidate, made available to newsmen, Saturday, Buhari said the nation will overcome its presents challenges. ” I condemn, unreservedly and with every strength in me, the recent terrorist attacks in Kano and Jos, the two historic cities that are known for their rich cultural and religious heritage. “Once again, those who seek to influence our way of life, modify our faith and our most sacred core values, have struck, leaving in their wake lives brutally cut short, limbs badly broken and dreams forced to fade away. https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Buhari-1-291x300.jpg “But these people, whose actions are not sanctioned by any religion and who subscribe to no known decent values, will not succeed. Our people are resilient and strong, and our nation is capable, based on our rich human and material resources, of successfully tackling these nihilists. “We will together see the end of them and their reign of terror. They have failed because Nigeria will remain strong and united in the face of what has now become an almost daily infliction of terror on a defenceless people. Women, children and the aged are not spared by these barbaric purveyors of horror, intimidation and panic. No religion condoles the killings of such vulnerable and innocent people, hence we are sure these terrorists profess to none of the world’s great religions, much as they seek to mask their actions with the cloak of religion. “Because their ideals are primordial and whatever cause they claim to be pushing is not just, they will not succeed. In spite of their terror, our respective faith and how we practice them will flourish and expand. Our reputation as a people of deep faith and peaceful religious coexistence will shine through, it will not diminish, it will not be forfeited. “I commiserate with the victims and their family members. While praying that Allah will grant repose to the souls of the departed and comfort those who lost loved ones, I urge all of us to demonstrate our time-tested compassion by providing support and succour to those affected one way or other other in their hour of need. “To my long-suffering fellow citizens who have borne the brunt of these almost daily senseless attacks, I say help is on the way. Terror must and will be defeated. All it requires is the political will, uncommon courage and unrelenting determination, and victory will be ours.” Source: http://naijafussion..com/2014/12/boko-haram-we-will-end-their-reign-of.html |

Nigeria- Indiscriminate combination of orthodox and herbal medicines could lead to sudden death, Prof. Martins Emeje, a Pharmacist with the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) on Monday cautioned Nigerians. According to him, combination of orthodox medicine also known as western medicine with herbal drugs could have the same chemical content which could result to over dose. Overdose, he said, could destroy vital organs in the body. ``If one is taking orthodox medicine at the same time with herbal medicine, there is a tendency that both medicines could fight the potency of the other. ``Using orthodox medicine at the same time with herbal medicine can exaggerate the effect of the other,’’ Emeje warned. He advised Nigerians to seek medical advice before taking herbal or non herbal medicines as both drugs have their side effects. `` When one does not have the appropriate information on a drug, it is deadly or suicidal to consume it. The professor advised overweight women who wish to reduce their weight to be cautious while consuming herbal medicines Source:http://naijafussion..com/2014/12/health-combination-of-western-and.html |

Sieczka managed to pull the 'crazy' teacher off Juba. The teacher, wife of the village's ex-Mayor, has been suspended and is now receiving psychological. |
Some people say the world isn’t fair. Others say that events essentially unfold by chance, meaning circumstances can change for better or worse no matter who you are. Take the story of Timothy Dale Poole, a convicted sex offender who recently won $3million on the state lottery. In 1999, Poole plead guilty to sexually battering a nine-year-old boy in Orange Country, Florida. He served 13 months in jail, and was given ten years probation. Poole has always claimed his innocence. His victory hasn’t sat well with neighbours. Speaking to Local 6, Howard Johnson said, ‘that’s pretty crappy if you ask me’. Whether he’s guilty or not, or the situation’s crappy or unfair, a lottery’s odds don’t change when confronted by a criminal history. If this story teaches us anything, it’s that chance makes no dispensation for any man. So let’s all go out and buy a lottery ticket! The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Professor Dibu Ojerinde has said that the agency had successfully stamped out corruption in form of examination malpractices using its innovative biometrics platform. This, according to him, allows JAMB to conduct examinations throughout West Africa and produce the results same day to block chances of manipulations. Dibu, who said they had succeeded in blocking all avenues upon which examination malpractices thrive, however, noted that there was need for school authorities of various institutions to carry out the last check on their prospective applicants, who seek admission in their schools. Consequently, he solicited the collaboration of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in this regard to completely stamp out corruption in the admission process. Dibu was speaking at the 11th ICPC Good Governance Forum with the theme; “Good Governance, Accountability and Transformation: The JAMB Experience”, held in Abuja. Explaining how the success was achieved, he said other issues such as faking of admission letters had been checked through the issuance of electronic admission letters and embossment of same with photos of the candidates that had been offered provisional admission. According to him, in cases where examination malpractice practitioners have used business centres to superimpose another photo on an admission letter, such is checked by verifying from a comprehensive manual which has earlier been sent to the schools. “The candidates do not have access to this manual. It is sent only to the schools. Admission letters presented by candidates are verified using this manual before the candidate is registered in the school. But some schools do not use this manual for whatever reason; and that is where we will need the help of the ICPC,” he said. Ojerinde noted that in the past, everybody with the institution contributed to examination malpractice and leakage of question papers, from the secretariat staff to cleaners, computer operators, clerical staff, messengers, schedule officers, typists, proof readers, editors and scanner operators. However, he maintained that the new system had shut all the officers out of the process, including himself, the chief executive; leaving the process to a select few officers who are isolated for the period of preparing the questions and writing the exams. “During this period, they do not have access to their phones for 38 days, they do not have access to their families and the outside world but they are well taken care of”, Ojerinde said. On how it is possible to come up with 98,000 results two hours after the exam ; and 617,000 results in five days, after writing the exam, Professor Ojerinde explained that the examination body had 26 scanners ; one of which works on 15,000 scripts per day running three shifts. The 26 machines works on 390,000 scripts altogether in a day, hence, the ability to produce the results within minimum time frame. “Releasing results in very short time reduces the possibility of manipulation”, he said. In his remarks, the Chairman of the ICPC, Barr. Ekpo Nta expressed delight at the success of JAMB, adding that only institutional changes, not necessarily mass arrest can stamp out corruption in Nigeria. To this end, participants at the forum asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other government agencies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), NCCE, National Population commission (NPC), National Identification Management Commission (NIMC) and NABTEP to adopt the biometric innovation made by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to effect systemic change and stamp out corruption in the country. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio just declared war on Christmas, and he’s making the children pay the price. NYC schools and chorus programs will have to change their Holiday shows to exclude songs with the word ‘Christmas’, or replace it with the word ‘Holiday’. ”I don’t hate Christmas, but it’s not about me, it’s about the thousands of children that don’t celebrate Christmas, and could find it offensive,” said de Blasio. “New York has always been the great melting pot, and our Muslim population has never been higher. After receiving complaints from Muslim leaders I’ve decided to cave in, basically. It’s not that big of deal really – it’s the time of year our schools put on their Holiday band and chorus shows, so just leave out songs that have the word ‘Christmas’ in them, or replace the word ‘Christmas’ with ‘Holiday’.” https://empirenews.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Christmas-Carols-Banned-In-NYC-Schools-Unless-The-World-%E2%80%98Christmas%E2%80%98-Replaced-With-%E2%80%98Holiday%E2%80%99-300x181.jpg “While we are at it, maybe it’s best not to have any songs with ‘Santa’ in them, either” said public school principal Mark DeWitt. “I agree whole-heartedly with the mayor on this decision. The important thing is not to offend anyone. ‘I’m dreaming of a white holiday’ is just as pretty as ‘white Christmas’. If we are all going to get along, we are going to have to change. And by ‘we’, I mean Americans are going to have to change.” “It’s insane! ‘White Holiday?’ ‘It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like Holiday’? It’s just stupid,” said Chorus instructor Carmine Classi,” We need a Mayor with a backbone, this guy is so far left he makes Obama look like a conservative, this city is going right down the holiday shitter, if you ask me.” http://naijafussion..com/2014/12/christmas-carols-banned-in-nyc-schools.html |
