SECOND Republic Politician, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite is not happy over the deep rot in the polity occasioned by mindless graft especially among the leadership class. This was the reason he made eradication of corruption (clearing rats, mosquitoes and cockroaches) the fulcrum of his presidential campaign in 1983 when he ran on the platform of the Nigeria Advance Party (NAP) which he founded. Currently, Braithwaite says President Muhammadu Buhari has not started fighting corruption despite claims to the contrary. He said the arraignment of Senate President Bukola Saraki before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) is a misstep that will make Saraki a free man soon in spite of the criminal charges slammed against him. Braithwaite, who has been practising law since 1961, in this interview at his Victoria Island, Lagos home, fears that Nigeria is not completely free of military opportunism and its influence in the polity. Going down memory lane, he disclosed why Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Malam Aminu Kano could form an alliance in 1979 and why he ran against Awolowo in 1983 in spite of their closeness. By Clifford Ndujihe, Deputy Political Editor His assessment of President Muhammadu Buhari administration so far I spoke on a TV programme where people asked me questions on the latest appointments that he made – chief of staff, secretary to the government of the federation, etc, whether they were not slanted to the North. Latest appointments I said may be so but I have other insight to the latest appointments because I know Buhari very well and he knows me. I said forget about the northern slant and look at other more significant things. The date of the announcement of those appointments was significant. The announcement was made on August 27, which was the anniversary of the Babangida coup that toppled Buhari in 1985. I said people should think about that. Why would he make such pivotal announcement on such an anniversary? People should think. We should not take things on face value. So, it is clear to me that, Buhari for the moment, is not thinking about North and South. My analysis is that Buhari is thinking of the military. He wants to do something about the Nigerian military. If you looked at his latest appointments, two of the appointments were his former military colleagues. It shows that Nigeria is not yet out of the woods when it comes to military opportunism and he wants to clear his backyard first. Much noise, no action against graft We have heard a lot of noise being made about attacking corruption. What has he done about attacking corruption four months after he was sworn in? The fact that we are having better electricity supply and the refineries are working cannot be what he has done. His body language, may be. But what we got all this time is military news. To me, he wants to make sure that military opportunists, military looters, who are still very much around in the control and administration of this country directly or through their proxies are adequately handled. How many people have been charged for corruption? Nobody. One military fellow, Sambo Dasuki, the former NSA has been taken to a Magistrates’ Court. Put your two and two together if you are a thinker. What about Senate President Bukola Saraki being taken to the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT? That is what I am saying. Saraki’s arraignment before the CCT will die a natural death. The charges that I heard read against Saraki were criminal, why take him to the CCT, which is like a bull dog without teeth? The CCT has not got criminal power. Where should Saraki have been taken to? He should have been taken to a court with criminal power to send people to jail if found guilty. The CCT cannot jail. You will find that this circus show will die a natural death. http://fusiongists..com.ng/2015/09/saraki-s-arraignment-before-cct-ll-die.html |

Ololo, who was on a wheelchair, pleaded with the legislators to intervene and facilitate the return of her schools. She said that the schools, Metropolitan College and Isolo Secondary School, were taken over while Commodore Ndubisi Kanu was the Military Administrator of the state. Ololo said she lost her husband, Chief Michael Ololo-Ogwu, in the struggle to regain ownership of the schools they both established in 1956 in Surulere area of the state. She was accompanied by some protesting youths who chanted songs and carried placards with various inscriptions such as "it's our right to own properties’’ and "Hon. Speaker, speak the truth." Some of the posters also read laws are passed for the good of citizens,’’ Justice for Mama Ololo,’’ `Hon. Speaker, please intervene,’’ and "Stop this injustice," among others. Ololo told the members on hand that the return of the schools had already been approved by the administration of Chief Bola Tinubu, a former governor of the state. "He has given orders that all private schools should be returned to their owners but they have not returned mine after several efforts. "We have been going up and down, my husband died in the course of seeking the return of the schools we both struggled to establish, she said. According to her, the government has been calling them for talks but nothing has been done. Responding, Obasa, who was represented by Mr Mojeed Fatai(APC- Ibeju Lekki I), promised that the House would look into the matter. http://fusiongists..com.ng/2015/10/91-year-old-woman-asks-lagos-govt-to.html |

The list was said to contain the names of people like former Rivers State Governor, Mr Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi; a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Rotimi Akeredolu; former Army Chief, Lt-Gen. Abdurrahman Dambazzau, and activist lawyer, Femi Falana, among others. It was gathered, yesterday, that President Buhari handed the list to his Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, and directed him to forward it to the Senate President. Therefore, Senate President, Bukola Saraki will tomorrow formally present Buhari’s ministerial list to senators. President Buhari, currently attending the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly, was said to have given the list of 36 ministers to Senator Ita Enang in New York. It was gathered that President Buhari directed Senator Ita Enang to either hand over the list to the Senate President at the resumption of the plenary today or on Wednesday, depending on the mood of the Senate. However, it was learned that Enang who left New York for Nigeria, yesterday, will not arrive Abuja before 3pm today, when the Senate would have concluded its business for the day. The Presidency had repeatedly promised that the list would be available this month and tomorrow is the last day of September. Meanwhile, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has dismissed as a family affair perceived misgivings between the party and President Buhari over the ministerial list. Fresh primary poll in Bayelsa This came as APC National Working Committee, NWC, yesterday, said the party was going ahead with the conduct of a fresh governorship primary in Bayelsa State, insisting that the previous one was invalid. It also asked the former governor of the state, Timipre Sylva, who purportedly won the last primary election, to approach the court should he find the decision of the NWC unwholesome. Asked if the NWC discussed the ministerial list, Odigie-Oyegun said: “We know that the President will do what he needs to do. What happened or did not happen between us and the President is a matter for the party as a family. It is a family affair, but he will do what he needs to do, when he needs to do it. You can trust him on that.” Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, who was the chairman of the election panel, testified before the NWC that there was no election, stressing that hoodlums attacked him, making the exercise inclusive. Briefing journalists after the NWC meeting at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Odigie-Oyegun said the process for fresh primaries would commence today. He said the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Solomon Arase, had been notified of the decision. His words: “The main issue that occupied us today at the NWC meeting had to do with the Bayelsa governorship primaries. We want to make it very clear that as a party, the APC guards very jealously its records of free and fair primaries. “The NWC sees it as a duty to provide a level playing ground for all those who aspire to offices in this party, unfortunately, in Bayelsa state, we had serious security challenges and so the process could not meet the standards which this party has set for itself and so we had no alternative but to stop the process by ensuring that the chairman of the panel was effectively moved out of the venue with the help of security agencies. “We decided thereafter that there should be a proper primary. So, we have written to INEC appropriately and decided to conduct fresh primaries for the Bayelsa governorship election beginning tomorrow. We are getting in touch with the Inspector General of Police and all the other security agencies to please assist us in ensuring effective security.” Oyegun stated that the party was not interested in who emerged the candidate eventually but that due process must be followed as APC stood for change and must reflect it in its dealings. “Let me make one thing clear. The issue of who is candidate or not is not the issue here. That is not what is in consideration because it can be any of the 19 aspirants that obtained the form to contest that election. ‘’But for the APC, the party of change, it is essential that in party processes, elections within the party are also seen to be free, fair, totally above board and without any form of force. ‘’That is what we hope to achieve beginning from tomorrow. The venue remains Yenagoa because by law, you cannot change the venue because that is part of the electoral act,” he said. Primary election c’ttee returned Sylva under pressure The national chairman also exonerated the panel that declared Sylva winner, saying anybody could have done so under the intense atmosphere. “We sent people to do a job and it got to a situation where they had reasons to fear for their safety, rightly or wrongly. Anything that anybody does in such a situation to keep body and soul in one piece is welcome,’’ he said. Reminded that Sylva might challenge NWC’s decision, Oyegun said: “That is what the courts are for. We will cross that bridge when we get there. The Saraki issue is in court and I will not want to say one word about it.” Speaking on security arrangement for the fresh primary, he said: “They say once beaten, twice shy. I am not a security man; I am not a security expert. But I am sure that the IGP is fully abreast of what happened that day as well what can be done and need to be done to avoid a repetition and we trust his judgement.” Cancelled primary was a mini-war, says Oshiomhole Meanwhile, the chairman of the election panel, Governor Adams Oshiomhole, appeared before the NWC and testified what transpired at the Yenagoa election. Briefing journalists, the governor stated that he was not on any revenge mission but was being truthful about the situation, admitting that what happened in Bayelsa was a mini war. He said: “I along with six other colleagues of mine were a panel to conduct the primaries. We have reported back and we have signed the report, five of us and that report has been presented formally to the party and it details all the issues. You know them and that is how far I can go. The report belongs to the party. It is not for me as a steward to tell the master what to do, but we have reported. “I really don’t want to go back to those issues. These are not issues that transpired in a bedroom. I do hope that some day we get to a point where even the media must defend the democratic space, concerning what happened in the stadium I have seen independent reports, “gun shots were being fired”, “AK 47 were recovered, two of them, Pump action, live ammunition. “These are not secrets that transpired. I am not the issue and I don’t want to be the issue. There are issues that are important to me. I didn’t go there as a governor. I went there as a party member on a national assignment for the party and it is a great honour. “I have done that job along with my colleagues to the best of my ability and I have reported with the fear of God the truth as I know it and this has been signed by every member and we have forwarded the report.” Oshiomhole also denied speculations that he planned to favour one of the aspirants, Mr. Timi Alaibe, emphasizing that Sylva was his “brother”. “You know Sylva is my brother and I can show you my phone, I’m not just calling him my brother, I have sent him a text saying my brother and he will remain my brother. So, if there is an argument or somebody is under tension what you need is our help, I know what it takes contesting for an election and I have passed through all of that and happily, I’m doing my second term. “So, I will not create burden for anyone except that because of the tradition I’m coming from, democracy has only one meaning “one man, one vote”. It is a covenant between me and my God. I have fought electoral fraud in Edo and God mercifully aided me and we defeated some of the retrogressive forces and if there is nothing else I can do, the principle of one man one vote is something I’m committed to so. If he is offended by that it is a pity. For emphasis, Sylva is my brother and I’m not going to fight him in the street”, he stated. Meanwhile, there was palpable fear earlier in the day when the NWC meeting came on stream as the party secretariat witnessed an unusual horde of stern-looking police men and operatives from the Department of State Service, DSS. Vanguard gathered that the development was a measure to prevent anticipated showdown should there be an attack from, perhaps, Silva’s camp. It will be recalled that the social media went viral with the news credited to Sylva that the APC national chairman could not upturn his electoral victory or stop him from contesting the December 5 governorship election in Bayelsa State. http://fusiongists..com.ng/2015/09/senate-gets-buharis-list-of-ministers.html |
https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/crop3722762/2232782997-chorizontal-w644/Buhari-fayemi-BBC-Hard-talk.jpg Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has said that President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, might pardon corrupt politicians who are ready to return stolen funds. Fayemi also said that Buhari’s promise not to witch-hunt his political opponents did not mean that he wouldn’t prosecute corrupt government officials who served in the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. The former Governor made the statements on Monday, April 27, 2015 during an interview on BBC’s HardTalk. “Corruption is not going to be dealt with by punishment alone. It is also going to be dealt with by incentives to those who are prepared to have a conversion. If you come voluntarily and say, look, I have stolen some money and I am prepared to return the money, Gen. Buhari would not say no to that,” Fayemi said. “Returning the funds is a form of justice to Nigeria because those funds will now be available for the teeming population. There would be a range of options for dealing with corruption but that does not mean that justice will not take its full course,” he added. “Buhari said he would not interfere with the judicial process and that if anyone is found guilty of malfeasance or corruption then that the law would take its course. Buhari didn’t mention any individual but anyone who is found guilty or who behaved badly in terms of corruption would be brought to face the law,” Fayemi said. Buhari has also said that his administration would probe allegations that the sum of $20 billion went missing from the accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC). http://naijafussion..com/2015/05/buhari-might-pardon-officials-who.html |

https://tribuneonlineng.com/sites/default/files/BEN.jpg Benjamin S. Carson, former head of paediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University, United States of America, returned to his hometown in Detroit on Monday to declare his bid for the Republican nomination for president. “I’m Ben Carson and I’m a candidate for president of the United States,” said Mr. Carson, speaking before several hundred people in the city’s downtown Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts. He joins what is expected to be a crowded GOP field of political veterans and first-time office seekers including Mr. Carson. The official campaign rolled out gradually over the weekend, starting with several television appearances airing on Sunday by Mr. Carson. They were followed by early morning visits to Detroit’s African-American history museum and a public high school named in his honor. An anticipated, subsequent visit to Iowa, however, was put off because Mr. Carson wanted to attend to his mother who has fallen ill, his campaign said. Born into poverty in Detroit on September 18, 1951, Mr. Carson was raised by a single mother. He graduated from Yale and the University of Michigan’s medical school, then moved to Baltimore. At age 33, he became the youngest head of paediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins and the first African-American to hold the post. When he was 37, Mr. Carson rocketed to fame when he became the first doctor to successfully separate twins conjoined at the head. In 2008, President George W. Bush awarded him the nation’s highest civilian honour, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Mr. Carson has long been a hero in America’s black communities. His first book, “Gifted Hands,” became a staple in inner-city schools and church book clubs. And though he has long held conservative views, Mr. Carson didn’t emerge onto the political sphere until 2013, when he rebuked the Affordable Care Act and called for a flat tax during remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast as President Barack Obama sat feet away. The prayer breakfast speech introduced Mr. Carson to a new audience: conservatives desperate for someone to make a compelling and distilled argument against the Obama era. Mr. Carson became a Fox News commentator and in 2014 published One Nation, a political manifesto that, among other things, called for term limits for federal judges and a new constitutional convention. The book sold more copies than Hillary Clinton’s long-awaited memoir, “Hard Choices.” Mr. Carson concluded there is an audience for him in the Republican primary. Nobody has won a major-party nomination for president without holding prior elected office or leading the nation at war since Wendell Willkie in 1940. No person with such a profile has ever won the White House. http://naijafussion..com/2015/05/ben-carson-popular-surgeon-declares-bid.html |

https://www.informationng.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/PDP1-300x225.jpg The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Monday said that President Goodluck Jonathan should not hold the National Working Committee (NWC) responsible for his loss of the presidential election which held on March 28. According to PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, Jonathan lost the election because the party and its leadership were not carried along and their advice was ignored. “We did not lead the party to failure, we were not involved in the campaigns and our advice was ignored. If we had handled the campaign, Mr. President would have won the election. We cannot be held responsible when our advise was ignored,” Vanguard quoted Metuh to have said. The PDP secretary noted that hate campaign by the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation against the APC and its presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari resulted in the failure of the party. He stressed that members of the NWC who played no significant role in the 2015 presidential campaign of the party can never be held responsible for the president’s failure. He also said that the NWC was never involved in the disbursement of campaign funds, while reacting to an online report that NWC members shared part of the presidential campaign funds among themselves. Rather, he said that the party spent over N4 billion to sponsor candidates in the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and the House of Assemblies elections. http://naijafussion..com/2015/05/you-lost-because-you-ignored-our-advice.html |

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has urged the Nigerian Labour Congress and civil servants in the state to exercise patience over the current economic crisis in the state occasioned by non-payment of salary. https://www.informationng.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/APC-300x268.jpg It will be recalled that several workers are owed salaries of up to six months in the state where more than 50 percent of workers are employed by the government. According to the party, the incoming APC Federal Government has given assurances that it would look into the federal allocation to the states to reduce months of unpaid salaries, as soon as the new government is sworn in on May 29. “However, whatever is within the capacity of the state government to do before then, it will certainly do to ease workers’ plight as a result of non payment of salaries,” the party said. “The long and difficult battle to defeat the forces of evil that have squandered the nation’s wealth has just been won comprehensively. “This has now paved the way for a new, progressive and responsible APC government to take over the affairs of the country and end the suffering which PDP corruption, mismanagement and treasury looting have brought on Nigerians including workers in Osun State,” a statement by the Directorate of Publicity of the APC in Osogbo and signed by Barr. A teenager who was captured on CCTV robbing a 2-year-old of his iPad was reported to the police by his mother. https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/crop3720902/3712782964-chorizontal-w644/robber.jpg It was all fun and games for a 16-year-old in Houston, Texas, like taking candy from a baby, when he snatched an iPad from a 2-year-old in a parking lot. What the he didn't anticipate was his mother's sound moral judgement when she reported him to the police after watching the CCTV footage and recognising him. When asked, the teen confessed to stealing the tablet from the toddler. Police are now investigating if the youth is involved or in anyway linked to other car park robberies in the past which have occurred in the area. This sound motherly judgement follow the reports of a mother in Baltimore who slapped her son on live Tv for participating in the rioting. http://naijafussion..com/2015/05/mother-reports-son-to-police-for.html |

Her roles in ‘Indecent Girl’, “Angels Forever’, ‘Lagos Babes’, ‘Sharon Stone’, to mention a few, shows how well this Nollywood beauty performs. The Imo State-born actress who started acting in the 90s is wrongly perceived by many to have dropped out of sight but how wrong they are! she is ever present, working behind the scenes and looking to break into public glare again in a big way. In this encounter, the newly elected Vice President, Screenwriters Guild of Nigeria, talks about the crisis rocking the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, her crashed marriage, her romance with Jim Iyke and lots more: You have been away for a while. What happened? I have been everywhere. I only reduced the numbers of films I featured in and concentrated more on soap operas. And that was for two years. I have also been working on my talk show that would soon hit television screen. Can we say this is as a result of producers patronising younger actresses? Not at all. Many scripts come my way. I only accept to feature in quality and challenging films. The industry is big enough to accommodate every good actor and actress. Every age has its role in movies. If I can’t take the role of a school girl, then I can take a role of a housewife. I have featured in two films this year which will soon be in the market. What do you think has changed between when you left the scene and now? There was no time I left entertainment because I was writing scripts and doing other things that were entertainment related. I only took a break from acting. Many things have changed. We now have better production, better market, good technicality, well written scripts and so on, unlike in 2011 when many film marketers almost went bankrupt. That also gave room for the influx of poor productions. We can still be better if we reduce the intake of non professionals into the industry. Can we also trace the incessant crisis in Actors Guild of Nigeria AGN to this? Crisis in AGN is quite embarrassing and disheartening. Actors are supposed to understand human psychology better. Actors serve as mirror to the society but we are finding it difficult to maintain peace among ourselves. During my tenure as the vice president of the guild, myself and other executives worked tirelessly to build the industry. We made the welfare of our members our priority. Things took another turn when artists began to get money from the government and politicians. In a nutshell, AGN crisis began when money was placed over artists’ welfare. What’s your take on the present crisis in AGN? There are two sides to this issue, legal and artistic. I have heard many versions of this side, one person won a particular election and another group conducted another election. I can’t really place which is correct. I can only beg the court to be fair. On the other hand, crisis in AGN is a derailment on the part of the artists. We shouldn’t allow our personal interest rob the industry of its exalted reputation. Any one can be the president as long as he or she sees to the development of the industry. AGN is not a political party. I am not taking sides but Ibinabo Fiberesima has been doing a great job. Dragging her in and out of court is like dragging the entire industry in and out of court. AGN crisis is stunting the growth of our industry generally known as Nollywood. What would you recommend as preventive measures to avert future crisis in the industry? All parties involved should come together and settle out of court. Let’s be honest to ourselves in the industry. What was your first time on set like? It’s was a new terrain for me and that was in 1994. I was already in a soap “Beyond our dreams” before then. But because I was used to acting on stage, I had to cut my gesticulation and some other things. But it was a good swap. You joined the industry as a spinster. Would you say this affected your love life? I joined the industry when I was 21 and a graduate. Perhaps it did but I didn’t just notice. It’s possible a suitor was somewhere eying me but didn’t show up because of my profession. I was too engrossed in my career that I didn’t encounter one but there would have been someone like that. Your marriage to Lanre Falana did not last. Why? I was never married but I was involved in a marriage process which got truncated along the line. Marriage begins with paying the woman’s dowry, traditional and white wedding. All these did not take place. My family didn’t support marrying a man who kept one woman in one place and plans keeping another one in another place. I attend Catholic church and the marriage process in Catholic, begins with the intended couples tendering a marriage certificate issued by a court to the church. This was the main reason we were in court in the first place. You said in an interview that you had no regret about your ‘’truncated marriage process.’’ That is because I am not a party to pretense. That marriage would have made me a sad woman. I have learnt not to judge a book by its cover. |
The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, yesterday condemned the sealing of the National Stadium, Surulere to prevent workers from celebrating yesterday’s Workers’ Day, warning the new acting Inspector General of Police, IGP, Solomon Arise to learn from the misadventures of his predecessors by operating within the ambit of the law. It also demanded N90, 000 as minimum wage for workers in the country, saying that the five year operational period of current N18,000 minimum wage would come to an end this year and must be reviewed. The factional President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, made this known in his message to mark yesterday’s Workers’ Day, at the stadium in Lagos. The NLC, also, cautioned the incoming administration of General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd, against attempts to abridge the freedom of the press as witnessed by the recent attempt to ban the African Independent Television, AIT, from the coverage of his activities just as it praised Buhari for distancing himself from the action of his aides on the issue. Ajaero warned that workers in the country would always defend the rights of Nigerian citizens when ever such occasions arose. ‘’In this direction, we commend the President elect, General Buhari on his directive cautioning his aides over the AIT incident. It is quite reassuring that the President-elect recognizes the freedom of the press, because in a democratic setting, respect for the rights of citizens is given. However, let it be known that we will stand up at all times to defend the rights of workers and also be counted as defenders of the rights of citizens,’’ Ajaero said. INVASION OF STADIUM On the sealing of the stadium, the NLC Chairman said, ‘’We condemn the unprovoked siege by fully armed mobile police on the peaceful gathering of workers at the venue of this year’s workers day celebration. Early this morning, the National stadium was sealed, preventing thousands of workers that trooped to mark the 2015 May Day (from entering). ‘’We warn the IGP to learn from the misadventure of his predecessors and ensure that he operates within the ambit of the law. We have a fundamental right to peaceful assembly and information. The IG should know that no one can intimidate us not to exercise our fundamental rights. On the recent general elections in the country, Ajaero, also paid special tribute to both the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan and General Buhari for their patriotism as demonstrated during the last general elections. According to him, the ‘’organized labour appreciated their mutual statesmanship and patriotism, avoidance of despair and unhelpful negative triumphalism after the historic free and fair 2015 Presidential Elections commendably conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. ‘’Like other Nigerians, working people look forward with excitement to the swearing in of General Buhari as the fifth democratically elected President on May 29. The President elect must consolidate on the positive labour market policies of President Jonathan and correct the negative measures. Apart from endemic corruption, the greatest task at hand is the urgent need to transform oil dependent-economy to a diversified industrialized economy. ‘’As we celebrate the dignity of labour, we also salute all incumbent and incoming governors, legislators and other political office holders. ‘’ SIGNIFICANCE OF MAY DAY He said that ‘’May Day offers us the great opportunity to celebrate the dignity of labour. For the working class, it is a period of reflection and a period to celebrate the social and economic achievements of the labour movement and canvass improvement in wages and conditions of work generally,’’ and asked them to ‘’work together at all levels to restore the belief and confidence of the working people in the NLC as the bastion of hope for the masses and as the strong voice for the voiceless in our nation. ‘’The labour movement should and must be responsive to the yearnings and aspirations of not only members/affiliates but must always be ready to provide alternative socio-political and economic policy framework that will help to galvanize increased productivity and shared prosperity for the Nigerian people.’’ Ajaero’s statement further read, ‘’As you are aware, today marks another significant demonstration of our collective resolve to chart a new course and a new beginning for our movement in Nigeria. It is a day to reaffirm our commitment to retrieve the movement from the hands of those who believe that the struggles to improve the conditions of workers, defend the rights of the working people and improve the socio/economic and political situation of our country lies in the comfort of the government offices and by cow- towing with politicians. ‘’It is very important to re-emphasize here that our struggle to provide leadership for the NLC is borne out of our collective desire to restructure the congress as a vibrant trade union centre after the misadventure of the past four years under the fraudulent and inept leadership of Abdul Waheed Omar. ‘’We cannot continue to lament about failed conferences and failed reconciliation, it is time to dust our boots, tighten our belts and rededicate ourselves to the multiple challenges facing Nigeria working people. Luckily, we have a fresh opportunity with a new government in place from this month. FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION ‘’We use the occasion of the May Day to re affirm our commitment to defend the rights of workers to freedom of association and collective bargaining as enshrined in our constitution and labour laws and explicitly reaffirms the commitment to uphold ILO conventions 87 and 98. THE ECONOMY ‘’The critical challenge for the incoming administration is that that the steady growth of the last decade has not translated into improved well being for the majority of our people. The Nigerian economy had recorded impressive growth averaging about 6 per cent in the last ten years yet over 70 per cent of our people remain poor surviving on less than two dollars a day. Nigerians are expectant that the Buhari administration will address the widening inequality and poverty in the country. ‘’The growing inequality can only be addressed by a serious commitment to developing the critical sectors of the economy and opening of the agricultural sector and the revival of manufacturing. Value-added activities in agriculture and manufacturing will open up the space for creation of mass decent jobs for millions of our young school leavers. The current unemployment rate is unacceptable, the government must act decisively to address this challenge. ‘’The development of the real sectors and increased value-added in manufacturing are quite critical for creation of mass decent jobs, elimination of poverty and for building a virile and sustainable economy. ‘’We shall engage the in-coming administration on these issues. We demand a macro-economic policy regime that will address stability in the currency exchange regime, progressive tax administration and the management of customs and excise duties in manners that will promote local production of goods and services. We must say bye to the destructive regime of duty waivers. PETROLEUM INDUSTRY The sudden emergence of long queues at fuel stations in major cities as a result of insufficient supply of petroleum products across the country is deeply worrisome. This worry is further compounded with the recent release of the audit report into the account of NNPC which just revealed a tip of the iceberg of the deep rooted mismanagement, maladministration, wastages and corruption in the Petroleum industry. To demonstrate the lack of political will of successive government, the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, which is expected to bring into the sector the much anticipated reforms that will make the oil industry yield the maximum returns to the country, investors and general further investments in the oil and gas sector is yet to be passed since year 2000. We therefore call on the new government to commence the reform of the oil and gas sector with the immediate passage of the PIB. REVIVAL OF TEXTILE INDUSTRY The President elect has commendably made revival of textile and garment industry as part of his party’s overall strategy to re-industrialize the county and create mass employment for the millions of unemployed. The new administration is right to reinvent this sector which has propelled newly industrialized countries in recent times such as China, India, Balgadesh and Indonesia among others. Nigeria boasts of a large polyester base. Combined with the 170 million population rich in fashion and clothing and huge labour force of some 70 million potential workers, Nigeria has the potential of producing 1.2 billion meters of cloth per annum and create at least 3 million direct jobs in textile sector! The President elect must realise that past presidents including Obasanjo, Yar Adua and Jonathan made similar pledges to revive textiles with innovative policies include import bans and intervention fund. Key problems facing the textile industry in particular and manufacturing industries in general are infrastructural inadequacy, raw materials, electricity supply, smuggling, counterfeiting and faking among others. All these problems call for strong government interventions not less. ELECTRICITY SUPPLY Our effort to develop as a nation cannot materialise except we are able to resolve the lingering energy crisis in our country. As we have seen, privatisation has not any way improve the supply of electricity to industries and homes across the country. This power poverty has led to factory closure and impoverishment of homes. This cannot continue again. Government must take the lead in the effort to improve power supply in our country. RAIL TRANSPORTATION We commend the outgoing Government for its commitment and effort with regards to the ongoing rehabilitation, re-equipping and modernisation of the rail transport sub-sector. We urge the incoming Government to follow this path, sustain and improve on the investment in the railway sector with a view to making the rail transport sector public transport that requires no privatisation in any guise. THE CHALLENGE OF INSECURITY The impressive GDP growth rate recorded in recent years notwithstanding the social crisis facing the country deepens in the last four years with rising unemployment and poverty levels fuelling increased crime rates and avoidable violence across the country. We therefore expect the incoming administration to adopt a two pronged approach of dealing with the problem at the root through by decisively taking action and developing policies and programmes to revitalize local industries and promote value adding processes in agriculture as a way of addressing the high level of unemployment and poverty in the country. This can then be complemented with restructuring of the security architecture and investment to address new dimensions of kidnapping and terrorism as witnessed in the south east and north east in recent years. We commend the Nigerian Military and the combined ECOWAS force for the excellent job they are doing on terrorism. CHIBOK GIRLS We are happy with the cheering news of the release of hundreds of girls and women by the Nigeria Military. But we are worried that there is no clear indication that the 219 school girls kidnapped in Chibok were part of those rescued. Notwithstanding, we commend the well-coordinated operation of the Nigeria Military and the joint regional forces which is already yielding results as troops in the last few days rescued 200 girls and 93, women and an additional number of hostages. MINIMUM WAGE We cannot address the challenge of income inequality and poverty without addressing the question of salaries and wages for working people because there is intricate linkage between income, consumption and production. We assure that we will continue to use the instrumentality of collective bargaining to improve the wages and salaries of our members. In the immediate the incoming administration must be put on notice that five year tenure of the national minimum wage ends this year and we are putting before the new administration a proposal of N90,000 for negotiation with the Federal Government and Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, NECA. This modest proposal is based on the unstable micro economic environment, naira devaluation and the high rate of inflation. FUNDING OF EDUCATION The issue of funding has been at the centre of the perennial crisis in the Nigeria University system in particular. It is time to work out a systemic and enduring solution to this challenge if Nigeria must meet its human capital needs. One critical step is for the incoming administration to urgently work towards the 25 per cent budget benchmark for education in the Country. It is also important for the Government to ensure that all relevant stakeholders are carried along in policy formulation and implementation to avoid the incessant strikes in the sector. ABIDING FAITH IN NIGERIA Nigerian workers are very patriotic and committed to the nation’s growth. We love our country Nigeria. He who loves not his country can love nothing. We are patriotic citizens who believe in the unity and oneness of this country. But we also believe that no nation can make progress without addressing the welfare of its citizens particularly the working men and women. Workers everywhere deserve good living and working conditions. We call on those in authority to show greater concern for the welfare of workers. GOOD GOVERNANCE Critical to our success as a nation is the issue of good governance. Nigeria has the capacity to meet up with her contemporaries in other parts of the world in all aspect of development if the challenges of good governance are properly addressed. This calls for the sharpening of our instruments for policy formulation and implementation in all the key sectors of the economy. We must deepen the democratic process. We must hold our political office holders accountable in the current democratic dispensation. NLC under our leadership will continue to be in the forefront to press for good governance, accountability and credible elections in Nigeria. For us and our allies in the labour movement, the least we can do is to keep these issues on the front burners of our national discourse. Therefore, we urge all state councils to do the same in their respective states. http://naijafussion..com/2015/05/nlc-pushes-for-n90000-minimum-wage.html |

Floyd Mayweather is a slight favorite, but Manny Pacquiao is the people’s choice according to the money being wagered on the Filipino icon ahead of Saturday’s welterweight showdown. Jay Rood, vice president of race and sports books at MGM Resorts International, said that some two thirds of the bets placed at MGM sports books have so far been for Pacquiao. That included one $500,000 wager on the World Boxing Organization champ, who will bring a record of 57-5 with two drawn and 38 knockouts to the fight. “Hopefully by this evening we’ll have taken a million-dollar bet on Mayweather,” Rood said. “We’re trying to get that hooked up now.” While Nevada’s legal sports books are taking some big wagers on Mayweather, the money coming in from Pacquiao believers have narrowed the odds to about 2-1. “We took quite a bit of money yesterday, well over seven figures, and 60 percent of it was to Pacquiao,” Rood said Thursday. “Public opinion is definitely Manny Pacquiao.” The high-profile bout is a lock to break a bevy of records for boxing revenue, and Rood expects it to generate the highest handle for any fight in Nevada state history, with the total money wagered statewide coming in “somewhere between $60 million and $80 million.” Most of that will be bet at sports books on the Las Vegas “Strip” where tourists and fans are flocking to soak up the fight week atmosphere even if they don’t have tickets to the bout. “The further away you get from The Strip, the less financial impact it’s going to have on the sports books,” Rood said. “I think the handle on The Strip could be astronomical.” MGM Resorts has 47-0 Mayweather listed as a minus-200 favorite, meaning one must bet $200 to win $100, with Pacquiao a plus-170 underdog, or a bet of $100 to win $170. “It’s a great price for either one of these fighters,” Rood said, a fact that has encouraged “really good two-way action”. However, he said many of the bettors on this fight won’t necessarily be shopping for an attractive price. While boxing doesn’t lend itself to the many proposition bets bookmakers offer for the NFL’s Super Bowl — a betting behemoth that spawned $116 million in wagering in Nevada this year — Rood said MGM sports books are offering a “little bit broader menu” of wagers to appeal to casual bettors. “We’ve put up the five pack: the one fighter by decision or KO, the other fighter by decision or KO and the draw,” he said, adding that MGM books also offer “over and under” bets for the fight to go seven full rounds, nine full rounds and to go the distance. “I think there’s going to be a lot of people who have maybe never been to a boxing match, have never bet a boxing match — they may be doing both this weekend, ” Rood said. “And they may never do it again.” http://naijafussion..com/2015/05/welterweight-showdown-money-man-vs.html |
Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, on Sunday read the riot act to Igbo leaders and monarchs in Lagos State, warning that he would make life miserable for them if they sabotaged efforts to ensure that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, is elected as governor of the state. The visibly enraged monarch, who summoned all the Eze-Ndigbo in Lagos State to his palace, said the support of their kinsmen for the opposition party in the state could frustrate current efforts in all quarters at ensuring Lagos is no longer in opposition with the Federal Government. He said: “On Saturday, if any one of you goes against Ambode, who I have picked, that is your end. If it doesn’t happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and it’s not my father who gave birth to me. “By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being. This is an undivided chair. The palace belongs to the dead and those coming in the future. On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode become the next governor of Lagos State, the person is going to die inside this water. “For the Igbo and others in Lagos, they should go where the Oba of Lagos heads to. When they were coming to the state, they didn’t come with all their houses. But now they have properties in the state. So, they must do my bidding. And that is the bidding of the ancestors of Lagos and God. “I am not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi is my blood relation and I told him that he can never be governor in Lagos for now. The future belongs to God. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere, you cannot do it here. “If you do what I want, Lagos will continue to be prosperous for you. http://naijafussion..co.uk/2015/04/bombshell-oba-of-lagos-reads-riot-act.html |
The attendees at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) women’s rally were treated to some of the First Lady’s interesting anecdotes. Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, on Monday, March 16, attended a rally in Ekiti State. https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/crop3540873/6682787007-chorizontal-w644/Dame-Patience-Jonathan.jpg The attendees at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) women’s rally were treated to some of the First Lady’s interesting anecdotes. Here are seven amusing things Mrs Jonathan said during the rally: 1. What did they (Muhammadu Buhari/APC) forget in Aso Rock? 2. If you vote the PDP and Jonathan, it would be better for you. If you vote the APC, you will go to prison. 3. How can you jail somebody for 300 years? I’m not ready to carry food to my husband inside prison oh! 4. They said there is no Office of the First Lady. Already, we know that there is no Office of the First Lady but there is wife of the President. 5. If you drink APC, you will die. 6. Nigerian women shine your eyes, don’t go for analogue, go for digital. PDP is digital, APC is analogue. 7. Nigerian women shine your eyes o! Vote with what you have seen, who you already know and who has performed. If anyone is telling you change, they are deceiving you. http://naijafussion..com/2015/03/7-amusing-things-first-lady-said-during.html |
Obasanjo stated this on Monday, March 16, during an interview with IB Times UK while attending Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai. https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/crop3479053/0932787507-chorizontal-w644/Olusegun-Obasanjo-151.jpg Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo has said that members of the terrorist sect, Boko Haram have “legitimate grievances.” Obasanjo stated this on Monday, March 16, during an interview with IB Times UK while attending Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai. “They do, they do,” Obasanjo answered when asked by the interviewer if he thought the terrorists had legitimate grievances. The former President also suggested that the terrorist sect be first pounded by military force before what it perceived as injustices could be addressed. Obasanjo also stated that the initial response of President Goodluck Jonathan’s government to the sect’s activities was poor. "The response of the government initially was definitely not enough. When Boko Haram started showing their fangs about four years ago the reaction should have been firm and unmistakable. We have lost ground," Obasanjo said. Obasanjo added that the abducted Chibok girls could’ve been rescued by now if the Nigerian government had acted quickly. http://naijafussion..com/2015/03/terrorists-have-legitimate-grievances.html |
Tinubu stated this on Saturday, March 14, during an Ndigbo APC governorship rally at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos. https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/crop3572767/7442784328-chorizontal-w644/Asiwaju-Bola-Ahmed-Tinubu.jpg The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC),Bola Tinubu has said that he had a hand in President Goodluck Jonathan’s election into office in 2011. Tinubu stated this on Saturday, March 14, during an Ndigbo APC governorship rally at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos. “In 2011, I helped Jonathan become President because he made us believe he was a breath of fresh air,” Tinubu reportedly said. “I didn't say because he was from Bayelsa that I would not help him. We voted for him because he promised to make our lives better. But now, he has failed us,” he added. Tinubu was the leader of the now defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2011 and his statement appears to confirm suspicions that he supported Jonathan against his party’s candidate, Nuhu Ribadu. http://naijafussion..com/2015/03/i-helped-make-jonathan-president-in.html |

If you vote PDP and Jonathan, it would be better for you. If you vote APC, you will go to prison. How can you jail somebody for 300 years? I’m not ready to carry food to my husband inside prison oh!” Mrs Jonathan said. She also referred to a comment made by the APC Presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari to the effect that Nigeria’s constitution makes no room for the office of the First Lady. “They said there is no Office of the First Lady. Already, we know that there is no Office of the First Lady but there is wife of the President. As (the) wife of the President, if you are good, people will love you. You will have a Non-Governmental Organisation through which you will touch people’s lives. That is why I brought Women for Change Initiative,” she said. A popular cliché says life begins at 40 and for actress Moji Olaiya who clocked 40 earlier in the week, her life just began. Granted Moji, in a chat with Saturday Beats, said she is grateful to reach this milestone, the actress believes that she still has a lot to achieve. https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Moji-Olaiya.jpg Even with her marriage that crashed some time ago, the actress said she has not ruled out getting married again in the nearest future. However, she said she wouldn’t even mind if she didn’t get married eventually. “What went through my mind during my birthday was giving thanks to God that my family was there for me and my friends really supported me. My colleagues were also there to celebrate with me, so there was no time to think about a man that was not there by my side. “Seeing my daughter and my mother beside me made me so happy. I was not thinking about anything that has to do with my marriage at all. Although there were some split seconds that I wished that my man was beside me to celebrate such a milestone in my life, since I am alive, I thank God. I still want to get married because it is not good when a woman is not under a man’s roof. If it comes fine and if it does not come, I am okay,” she said. Proud of her daughter, she said that the kid is not following in her footstep but would rather become a lawyer. The actress said that she has noticed that her daughter loves music and would not be surprised if she toes the path of her grandfather, the famous Victor Olaiya. “My daughter does not have interest in acting. She said she wants to become a lawyer when she grows up. I know she likes music, so she might delve into it later in life but not acting. She could later become a famous musician like her grandfather, Victor Olaiya,” she said. http://naijafussion..com/2015/03/i-still-want-to-get-married-moji-olaiya.html |

Following a Borno-based Pastor's claim ion as that the Peoples Democratic Party had given N7 billion bribe to pastors, theChristian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has described the allegation as ridiculous. According to CAN, the accusation against the Christian pastors are works of mischief makers who form lies to deceive the public. A Borno-based pastor, Kallamu Musa-Dikwa yesterday corroborated an earlier allegation made by Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing the People Democratic Party (PDP) of bribing several pastors to tarnish the image of All Progressive Party presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari. Speaking on behalf of the religious association, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of Northern CAN, Sunday Oibe, said:“The allegation is a complete lie and just one of the many evil plots to dent the image of CAN’s leadership. “It is also to rubbish its integrity and make it morally incapable of leading Christians in these trying times. There was no way anybody would collect a kobo on behalf of CAN and start sharing it like booty. “The man, who made the allegation, is totally unknown in CAN cycle and I am just hearing his name and that of his organization for the first time. How come he could be privy to such an arrangement if it really existed? “It is a shame that anyone would make such mean allegation, without giving a shred of evidence, just to fulfil a political agenda at the cost of our ecumenism. “It is all to silence the voice of CAN leaders against the tyranny and oppression that Christians suffer in the north-east and other parts of northern Nigeria. “For the first time our oppressors have found CAN speaking up for its members, and they must do everything to frustrate our leaders. The kingdom of evil shall, again, fall flat at the feet of Jesus.” http://naijafussion..com/2015/02/theres-no-evidence-religious-body.html |

Available information has shown that four-year-old Abraham Omonigho, who was attacked by two German shepherd dogs in Igando area of Lagos State, in September 2014, was infected while at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja. https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Abraham-Omonigho-at-the-Lagos-State-University-Teaching-Hospital-.jpg https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Abraham-Omonigho-360x225.jpg This was said by the medical personnel at the Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, an Indian medical facility in Telegana State, where Omonigho was flown to late November, 2014, after his father, Odia, took him out of LASUTH. After spending about two months at the Apollo Hospitals, Omonigho returned to Nigeria on Thursday. The treatment of the undisclosed infection was said to have lasted over one month. Omonigho’s scalp had been covered up by the doctors but Odia said his son would return to India in June 2015, for a micro surgery. Saturday PUNCH learnt this on Friday during a visit to the Abrahams in their Akesan Estate residence in Igando area of Lagos. Our correspondent had reported that Omonigho was riding a bicycle with his brothers-Bobby and Osemidiamen-when they were attacked by the two dogs owned by their landlord. The PUNCH had reported that while the older brothers jumped down from the balcony of their one storey apartment, the victim was ravaged by the dogs, which tore his scalp. Neighbours and policemen were reported to have stood at the gate, helpless, until the victim’s mother arrived at the scene. Our correspondent reported that the crowd persuaded her not to go in, but she was spurred to move in after seeing one of the dogs emerge from the balcony with blood in its mouth. Helen reportedly fought off the dogs singlehandedly and rescued her son while the crowd assisted in taking him to the hospital. The victim was taken to LASUTH and the State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, ordered the management not to collect money from the family. However, the victim’s father, Odia, had a running battle with the hospital management, which he said still charged him for drugs and other medications. Odia later raised the alarm that his son’s condition had worsened as a result of neglect by the hospital. The Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, intervened and together with a non-governmental organisation, Global Initiative for Peace, Love and Care, a trip to India was arranged for Omonigho to undergo a surgery. The Lagos State Commissioner, Jide Idris, in a press release cautioned against the trip, saying the victim’s condition was delicate. Idris alleged that the victim’s father declined the state government’s offer for Omonigho to be flown to another specialist hospital in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Odia, however, insisted that his son’s head had started to rot and that the Indian trip had been concluded before the state government gave him the Dubai offer. Odia said the Indian doctors thrashed the medical report LASUTH issued to them, which he said was termed as “mere paper.” He said, “They said the report did not give them any information and couldn’t have been written by a doctor. They said it was good I quickly brought my son because his head was getting rotten and had been infected while at the hospital. The doctors told me they could not start with the surgery because they had to treat the infections first. “You remember I cried out that my son’s head smelled, but the LASUTH people said it was granulation. I had always suspected things were wrong because at LASUTH, the nurses would open his head for dressing at 6am and leave it open for the doctors, who would not show up till 12pm. And when they did, they would ask the nurses to close it up. I remembered that no doctor showed up for two weeks during a particular time. That was when I got mad because his condition was becoming critical. “But in India, they dressed his wound three times a day, and at least five special senior doctors attended to him every day.” Our correspondent was shown a medical document of the hospital which confirmed that Omonigho’s head was infected. It read, “At the time of admission, there was: large raw area over scalp with infection; the raw area was extending from frontal scalp, bilateral parietal scalp to occipital region; the raw area was looking pale and slimy; Infection+. “Dr. Durga Prassad, consultant paediatrician, was consulted for evaluation of medical problems. He (Omonigho) was diagnosed as a case of infected raw area over scalp.” Odia said the doctors told the family they needed to do skin grafting to temporarily cover up the wound before the major operation would be done after his return to India in June. http://naijafussion..com/2015/01/boy-attacked-by-dogs-got-infections-at.html |
https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Bose-Oladimeji.jpg Bose Oladimeji is beginning to get all the attention in the Yoruba film industry, for both her talent and good looks. But Bose, from Kwara State and an English graduate of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ogun State is burning with desire to do things most of her colleagues wouldn’t dare even though she wouldn’t cross the Rubicon of going nude. Already, she looks good for it, as she has been nominated in the MAYA awards, along five others as the ‘New Bride’ of Nollywood. Meet her and see what makes her tick. Why did you pick acting as a career? I have always wanted to be an actress all my life. The passion began to grow as a child, back then when we used to play the moonlight play, where we imitated our parents and everything we saw on the television. Also, my love for literature helped to add fire to the passion. As an English student, literature is a part of the study, so, in a way, you can say I am still on my field as a professional. So, how did you find your way to fulfill the dream? I entered the industry through one man called Olokooba. Later I joined AKO group led by Oga Bello, Adebayo Salami but when the group disbanded I proceeded to Adebayo Tijani’s group. It was under Adebayo Tijani’s group I graduated but I thank God who has remained with him because there is no one else beside him. Why is it that every upcoming actor in Yoruba sector of Nollywood must have a master through whom they must join the industry? It is not easy to go at it on your own. If you don’t have a boss nobody will teach you the way to go. You need them to get the right connections and contacts. If you don’t join up with a group you won’t have any foothold and nobody will take you in on your own account. But don’t you think by belonging to one group, it can limit your scope and career growth? No, your growth in the industry depends on your talent and what you have to offer. The kind of person you are and how you carry yourself also goes a long way in determining how you turn out eventually. No two students under the same teacher are the same; character, passion and ambition will come to play. Have you produced your own film? Yes, I have produced four films. Oniduro was my first production, followed by Laye Lorun, Adajo Aye and my latest work, Aye Mi. Apart from those I produced I have featured in so many films that I cannot count. Which film do you think brought out the best in you and why? Hmm, I would have to say Adajo Aiye but Aye Mi brought more ovation than Adajo Aiye. It brought back all the memories of my school days. Aye Mi is a true life story that brought out the best in me because I had to bring back from memory most of what happened during my school days. Besides, many parents called to appreciate my effort. How do you see your nomination by MAYA Awards as the New Bride of Nollywood? Yes, it is under the category of Nollywood’s new bride (next rated female). New bride means ‘Iyawo Tuntun’ in Yoruba language and translate as the new face of Nollywood. I believe I caught the attention of the organisers of the award because of my works. I believe there must be something unique about my personality and my works to have been noticed and nominated. Almost all Yoruba actresses have turn producers, why must everyone be producers? Yes, it is the only way you can truly showcase your talent as an actress. Until you have produced your own film nobody believes in you or really notices you. So, you have to tell them you have got all it takes to be a really big name in the industry. It is by doing your own film that you can get any character that you want. But I heardit’s all about making more money for yourself? Yes, you are right. Until you produce your own films you cannot get real money. As an upcoming actress what you get are mere stipends. Sometimes, you don’t even get paid at all except for accommodation and feeding. This is worse for those still learning under a group. But thank God I have gone beyond that now. There are many sensual roles coming into Yoruba films now, how sensual can you get in a film? I apply wisdom to everything I do because I always think of that day a man will ask for my hand in marriage. I don’t want anything that will soil it to come in, so, I check myself and go as far as it would suit the script and comes off as good acting. So you can’t even kiss, smooch or pretend to make love on set? Why not? I have done many like that but what I am saying is that I do it with restraint and make sure the act doesn’t go beyond the set. Work is work and I don’t mix feelings with business. Can’t you date or go out with a fellow actor? Never; I will never do that. Not that I have anything against actors but I just can’t do it. Why are the actors so bad or so poor? No, not that. I just don’t mix business with pleasure. What kind of men would you date or settle down with? Wow, he must be cool, handsome, lovely, God-fearing, humble, rich and romantic. Those are the qualities I look out for in my man. So you can’t marry a poor man? Yes I can’t, truth is bitter; a man must be hardworking. If you are not hardworking, how are we going to give our children quality education? Providing for their needs? So my desired man must have something lucrative doing because I cannot be idle myself. I don’t believe in being a full time housewife. We must work together and achieve our collective goals. Poor men have no place in my heart. What if you meet a rich man and he wants you to stop acting entirely? No, capital no. Acting is a passion that can never be quenched. The man may limit the frequency of my going on locations but can never stop it entirely If you read English, why haven’t you done any English film? Everything takes time. Little by little I will get there. Mind you, if I am invited I would participate. Very soon I will shoot my own English film. http://naijafussion..com/2015/01/poor-men-have-no-place-in-my-heart-bose.html |
A babysitter’s brutal assault of a baby was caught on camera, reminding parents of why “nanny cams” are so desperately needed. The disturbing video begins with both sitting on a sofa, seemingly fine. But then, the baby does something to annoy the nanny and gets smacked in the face several times. Then, after watching TV for a time, the baby, as babies so often do (especially when fed too much), spits up on the floor. The nanny then snapped, unleashing a shocking and brutal assault on the child. According to the news outlet, The nanny is now reportedly confined to a wheelchair and feeding through tubes due to the severe beating she received from the baby’s father. She was reportedly arrested and remanded in Luzira Prison in Kampala waiting for her case to be reviewed. The State Attorney upped her charge from child battering to attempted murder source- http://naijafussion..com/2015/01/again-another-housemaid-caught-on.html |
