6 Lessons We Must Learn From Oshiomhole's Mistakes. I feel sorry for Oshiomhole that despite his outstanding works as a governor, he may now go down in history as a villain instead of the hero status he deserved. Where did it all go wrong for him? We can learn some lessons from his mistakes. 1. Do not take God's grace for granted Oshiomhole is no doubt a product of grace. For an ordinary Tailor without even a primary school cert to rise through the ranks to become NLC president, a state Governor and the national chairman of the ruling party could only be grace at work but when he got to the top, he forgot the hand that lifted and held him, he elevated himself to the position of a god and started bragging: "no man born of a woman can remove me...", "I will give Obaseki Ambode treatment... He became high handed and started stepping on people's toes. He went into overdrive, wielding the axe on anyone who dared to confront him, masterminding electoral irregularities with full blown violence and daring anyone to challenge him... He abused the grace that lifted him. 2. Do not underrate anybody One of our proverbs says: "if you wake up in the morning and sees a fowl pursuing you, you'd better run because you don't know if it had grown teeth overnight". When he was suspended by his ward Chairman, he called him a local politician, a village champion, an 'ordinary' ward chairman and refused to appeal the suspension within the window provided by the constitution until a federal high court in Abuja affirmed it, then he started running helter skelter, looking for a last ditch intervention to save his head until the appeal court gave him reprieve. He also serially underrated the power of a sitting governor. 3. Pride goes before a fall After the Abuja high court judgement, he did something admirable; he humbled himself, called a meeting of the NWC and apologized to everyone with the words "I have realized my mistakes'. However, realizing your mistakes is not enough, he obviously did not learn from his mistakes as evidenced by his prolonged war with Obaseki and Oshawo. It was overhead pride to think "how can I a whole chairman call these neophytes for settlement"? A true father does that, sometimes you are at loggerheads with your own children and because you don't want to burn down the house, you call them to yourself, air your grievances and settle the quarrel. 4. Learn to retreat sometimes There is a time to be brave and a time to be conscious. Only cowards keep advancing in battles without retreating, sometimes we need to learn the art of "winning by losing", sometimes you need to learn to retreat and re-evaluate the battle, your enemy and your potential gains and losses. Always fight with your sense not your muscles. One of our proverbs says: "if you are too sharp, you may cut yourself in the end", this is what has happened to him. 5. Beware of praise singers Oshiomhole's supporters did not help matters either, they elevated him to the position of a god, they called him head-swelling names; Oshiothunder, OshioLion, Oshiobuldozer, Oshiowinner, Oshioquake, Oshiofire, the man who has never lost and can never loss a battle and so many annoying names and in a bid to justify the names, he shut his ears to good advise. The great Oduma of Afemai music had advised him in his album titled "last tenure" that there shall come a time you will look back and see no one behind you but they don't listen to good music, he preferred to dance to "is a goal" and listen to those fair weather Afemai musicians who campaigned for his adversaries at the beginning but turned back to dedicate a track in every of their albums to him after he had won the election. Sometimes learn how to listen and you could benefit even from those who talk badly. 6. What goes around comes around He did this to a lot of people; Saraki, Oyegun,... just to name a few. He has simply gotten a taste of his own pie. Copied! |
hurray God won and shame on those that tagged us IPOB. |
*The Book of Edo chapter 1 vs 1 – 34.* 1. Now, it came to pass, In that period when men chose their rulers, after the reign of Lucky the son of Igbenedion. A certain man arose from the mount of Auchi whose name was Adams the son of Osho. 2. It was he who was the chief of the publicans and a leader of labour. Later he had become Governor over all the province. And adams abode as governor for eight years in Edo. 3. Behold, During his reign, the man Adams had excelled in speech and utterred many fierce and lofty words. 4. And his oration was honey and wine to the hearts of the people. 5. He ruled the city with a mighty hand and prophesied with a loud voice unto the four walls of the cities; the North, the South, East and West, saying; 6. “Woe unto the godfathers and naysayers and oligarchists, to the men who have exalted themselves over this city as gods over men. 7 “Again i say woe onto them. “For as the day wipeth out the night, I Adams the son of Osho, shall flush out their reigns, and seize their loincloth. 8 “With a heavy rod shall i chase them out, and they shall run. I shall break their brass gates, and set their iron bars asunder. And it was so. 9. That at the end of the Eight year, wherefore Oshomole was to complete his reign, a man called Godwin the son of Obaseki had exalted himself saying ” I will be Governor. 10. At the same time, Iyamu the son of Ize had also exalted himself and said i will be Governor. 11.Adams had looked up the face of Obaseki and took his hand and kissed it and spake with a voice saying “Fear not, for i am with you, oh thy faithful servant, I shall bear you upon my wings, thy mouth shall speak good tidings, and in my stead thou shalt reign. 12.And it came to pass, that when the due season for contest came. Adams and Obaseki went together in one accord, to the outskirts of the cities to the tabernacles, to the villages, and to every field. 13. Lo, Oshomole had held his companions hand saying with a loud voice;“Oh cities of Edo hear ye my counsel, Oh land of my inheritance bear thy comrade’s witness, for this is the man whom thou shall vote for a faithful and just man! 14 “Begone from the man Iyamu for he is vain and double faced. 15.Cast not thy votes for him for his mouth is slack. 16 Ye! He has put on the loincloth of a saint but his heart is darker than widow’s ash. 17. Withdraw your firstborne sons, from him, for he dines in the devil’s cult. 18. Withdraw thy daughters, for he is a deformer! 19.And it came to pass that many people had hearkened unto the voice of Adams the son of Osho. 20 And on the day of reckoning more votes had been casted for Godwin than for Iyamu and he had been crowned governor to reign in Osho’s stead. 21 Behold, at about the second year of the reign of Godwin, and like a dream of the night, after the feast of the old year, the new governor and old governor saw discord together. 22 The new Governor had called upon the people saying. ” He wants Your gold and Silver and I said nay!!!. No man shall be god over this land, for this is the very cause ye fought for in your reign, and i say it shall stand. 23 And when it came to the ear of Adams the son of Osho what the new governor had done. He had cried with a loud voice.. 24 “A traitor is on the throne!!. therefore shall my eyes not be allowed to behold the ungodly stand in judgement for long. 25.For yes! He has bitten the finger that fed him bread. And his rainment must be seized!. Another four years thou will not go! 26 And Godwin the son of obaseki had responded, “I shall go another. 27 On the fourth year on the month and on the day when A new adversary was to be chosen to travail with Obaseki. Iyamu had comeforth and said “here i am, i will go. And adams spake softly saying ” I am with you. 28 Now the people of the city had rent their clothes and thrown forth their voice in desolation saying to the Adams the son of Osho, who shall we go with?. 29 Whom shall we believe? For the Lord God is not the author of confusion, a man whom ye called a leper yesterday, how turneth he now an angel? And the one whom ye called a messiah the day before how turneth he now leper. 30 For dignity is not like the sun that comes and goeth. Or like the leopard spots, or like the stars, or the changing seasons. Dignity is like the word of the lord that endureth forever. 31 And it came to pass after these things, that election was held throughout the province of the ancient city on the nineteenth day in the month of September in the year of corona A.D in the reign of Oba Ewaure 11, 32 that the people of Edo decided that light should defeat darkness and godfatherism casted into the bottomless pit. 33 And, Lo The Lord blessed Godwin the son of Nogheghase, the son of Obaseki with more votes over his contenders from the plain of Bini to Esan and across river Ikpoba unto Owan, Etsako and unto Akoko Edo. 34 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of David, which saith, God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God. |
Benwallt:its normal jare. I was willing to do anything for Obaseki to emerge and thankfully our campaigns paid of and we didn't have to do anything. Ogbane |

somebody should warn INEC not to inflate the results from the remaining LGAs to favor APC, if they do we will go there and do head count. |
The announcement of the results is about to resume after about an hour’s break. |
Mysticwebb:not just him but the 14 lawmakers that have failed to perform their duty. |
ODJ124:in your dreams, tell yourself the truth now and stay away from snipper. when God have spoken every other speaker becomes a noise maker. this is the best time to support PDP. |
Sonnobax15:are you thinking in the past or in the future. results from 12 LGAs have been called and Obaseki won 12, there are just four LGAs left. 2 from Edo south and 2 from Edo North. Obaseki will take 1 while Iyamu will take three but that three won't do the magic. go and rest the people have spoken and Obaseki has won. when God have spoken every other speaker becomes a noise maker. |
Slawormir:I used to vote at Ugoneki back in the years and I know Uhunwonde is PDP, I know the effort that was put in place for oshiomohle to win there in 2012. Edo no be Lagos is not just for the saying but in the doing. but Lala why this unfair attitude, you steal posts from my thread as if that's not enough you delete the results posted on my thread. even if you must use my post can't you just copy and not delete. all the same shall God has won and its a proof that once God have spoken every other speaker becomes a noise maker. |
contigiency:chairman I remembered your post. I live in Benin, next time when I talk about Niger-Delta politics try and listen instead of forming jagaban over what you don't know. politics is local and Edo is not Lagos. Happy Sunday to u from this part of Naija. hope you will find courage to congratulate Obaseki |
Notatribalist:the thing is tiring, na Owan West result surprise me pass. |

Awol1:Na so me self here oh. report also have it that they are leading in Epe, Ogba, Ikeja Surulere, Ikorodu, and all the islands. |
some body should warn INEC that we won't accept a rerun, they either announce the remaining results or declare Obaseki winner. no room for inconclusive election. |
Benwallt:I am sorry if you didn't spot the sarcasm or are you expecting results from Lagos. |
Breaking News: APC waiting for results from Lagos |
so far so good results from 14 local governments have filtered in and GGO claimed 12 while POI won 2. it will be honourable for Ize-Iyamu to make the call now and congratulate Obaseki. |
