Its almost like a wonder drug in vet practice because many animal diseases are caused by parasites. They use it against ticks, lice, mange mites, maggots (myaiasis), worms, etc, etc...

Could this wet mange be caused by parasites too?

My phone's camera keeps getting blurrier day by day, I just wish i own a good camera so the pictures would make a lot of sense

My rotts were recently treated for something similar to what you described...my vet called it 'wet mange'.

He gave them a couple of injections, which I'm guessing were probably Ivermectin inj and an antibiotic. He then gave me an ointment containing 20% sulphur, 2% phenol & 25% paraffin to apply on the sores daily. I also gave them Amitraz baths on my own, which the vet also agreed was helpful.

They are now very much OK!

I bucked the collar on so I'd get Murphy to stay in one place until I'm done, though I removed it as soon as the treatment was over.

Been noticing an abnormal development on Murphy's neck lately, which has turned out to be worse this morning

It's a kinda wet sore which i believe is caused by bacteria, it looks just like the "sweatypaws" he suffered from last month but this time i think he feels no pain since it's located on the neck region. If pressed, the sore would release a pale yellow smelly water which retires back if realesed.



I brought out my first aid treatment kit which i composed purposely for emergencies like this and began cleaning the wound firstly with "hydrogen" as can be seen in the image below, applied a little medicated spirit on it and lastly violet paint/GV.


I think I'll be getting an original first aid box, a forcep ( the medical name for the long metal scissors used in chemists), and some waterproof hand gloves in order to protect my palms from getting stained by the violet paint/GV.

Unlike the first three, Chelsea, Czar and Bella were raised indoors from the day they arrived. They never stepped a paw outside the house until they had completed all their shots and had ample time to build up their immunity.

They arrived at the peak of Parvo season, and then just weeks after the dreaded disease had creeped into our home and put out a rising star. We weren't going to take any more chances after the tragic loss of late Chelsea.

It wasn't an easy job at all cleaning up after the pups for months that often seemed like an eternity, but whenever I see how grown up and healthy they are now I tell myself it's a job I'd gladly do all over again if I had to...

Was giving them some instructions early in the morning not to mess the compound up because no one would be home to look after them, they complied and did just as i said

Murphy and Gustaf respects me so much, there's time for everything and thanks goodness Gustaf is already adapting

too much of everything is bad because anytime I talks to Murphy with a mean face , he'd end up being moody for hours so after instructing them, i teased the boys a little and Gustaf can be seen trying to get Murphy smile in the second pic, these boys won't seize to amaze me o lol

Kibbles are made with machines...manufacturers have different machines for grinding, mixing, pelletizing and oven drying, but I don't think this should stop one from improvising and producing ones own home made kibble.

Some fish farmers in Nigeria produce their own pelletized fish feeds, so why can't dog breeders and owners do the same?

You've a point, I think trying something new out wouldn't be a bad idea at all, just that the only barrier we'd face is just the lack of idea involved in processing kibbles. But since google is there for us, things will be a little easier.

Trying out new things isn't just a bad idea, Therefore I'll see if I'll give it a try next time. what do you think?

Processing the dry soya into kibble would be possible and nice, Infact i do reason it on my own but still lack the method used in processing dry feeds though.

If prepared well this stuff tastes and smells very nice, I even prepare some for myself

I used to add a 1 mudu of dry fish when they were still puppies so they'd get attracted by perceiving the smell of the fish but i stopped immediately they clocked 6months old because they eat almost everything with full appetite now


But it's advisable to add either dry fish, meat or any other source of protein. Just that it must be in DRY form

I feed them the soya beans only at night so it last up-to 2months

Please can you estimate the cost of this food per kilogram?

I don't really know what they weigh but I'll explain as much as i can.

A mudu of groundnut = N350
2 mudus of soya beans = N600 ( N300 each)
3 mudus of corn = N300 ( N150 per measure)

Total= N1,250

These combination can be very very difficult to grind so they do charge me between N200-N300 at the grinding center depending on the quantity.
N50 also goes to the groundnut fryer.

In total the cost of everything is = N1,600 which is very much affordable for our pets just that preparing it might be a difficult task for some but not me

It's been long their soya beans finished so i decide it's time to make another, this soya beans combination isn't just as easy as it seems to make because i purchase everything differently, dress the grain myself in order to archive the desired result.

First of all, I'll have to visit the near by market to get the grains and groundnut;

1 mudu of groundnut
2 mudus of soya beans
3 mudus of corn.

(mudu is a small iron bowl used in taking measurements esp in the market mostly by the Hausas)

When i get home, I'd put on the electric cooker, then fry the corn and soya beans separately until it browns thereby giving me the desired flavour. As for the groundnut, I take it to a woman who sales/fries groundnut to do the frying for me, she doesn't charge me much just N50 because we're neighbours.
I don't know how to fry groundnut myself, pouring the sand inside the pot and all that just confuses me so i don't try it myself




Then later I'd head to a grinding center. In the picture below is a woman peeling of the coat from the groundnut and soya beans, she explained how harmful soya beans coat could be if mixed together.


I took the third picture while the grinding and mixing was going on, i help the woman in doing all these things to avoid my soya beans being wasted mistakenly.



Lastly, I fetched a little, prepared it with hot water just like pap is been prepared then mixed with soup and meat before serving

I like this combination because it's nutritious, the boys ( esp Gustaf) loves it and it rises more than anything when prepared

I blamed myself for her death, still do actually! It was my responsibility to look out for her and I failed in doing that to the best of my abilities.

2 weeks before she passed on, my vet visited to administer her 2nd shot of vaccination (the 1st given by me though, as I took the breeder's word for it that he gave the 1st shot before waybilling her @ 6 weeks). A few days after the vet visited, Spike came down with diarrhoea, I called my vet and he instructed I place him on Ivax suspension. The next day Spike started vomiting severely, so when the vet came he said it was likely to be Parvo and commenced treatment immediately. All this while Spike and late Chelsea were still having contacts with each other. Spike was later admitted and then a day or 2 later, late Chelsea developed symptoms as well and was also admitted into hospital.

To cut the story short Spike survived, but Chelsea did not!

If only I had known then what I do now, I would have isolated Spike the moment he started passing watery poo or even took Chelsea indoors and disinfected the entire compound and house, including their kennel with bleach...then maybe, just maybe my girl would still be alive today.

We believe the vet brought Parvo to our home, albeit unintentionally I must add, but with my background, I believe I should have known better.

Below is a picture of late Chelsea @ about 10 weeks and Spike approaching 8 months just before the vet visited to give Chelsea her shots...

Sorry for the loss, indeed parvo is the most dangerous infection In dogs and we must strive to keep our pets safe from it

You should have isolated Chelsea, I isolated Murphy when Gustaf suffered from parvo virus. I

And you should've also do more research on the bloodline, temperament, study the pedigree well and also calculate the shipping fee well.
