If you help a man, he will appreciate it for a long time. If you forget, he will remind you. It is as if he owes you a debt. The guy that helped me to bring back Nairaland in 2014 could do no wrong in my eyes until last year. And even now, you won't catch me saying anything against him.

If you help a woman, she will appreciate it for a short time. 3 days. A week. A month. 3 months. Then it's as if you never helped her. It's history. Your help is like a subscription. Once it expires, you can be ghosted. Unless you renew it. And there are many other subscribers, so stop feeling as if yours was such a big deal. 😭

PS: Please o; I don't do redpill. Women are not ungrateful. They recieve help all the time, which they deserve. I'm just speaking from pain. 😭

I graduated from the University 12 years ago. Since then I have been jumping from one job to another with no progress in sight. I discovered that I have been stagnant for Years, so I decided to learn a skill.

I started by learning how to make footwear, I learnt that for a year but I later discovered that it's not what I want to do, although I can make every type of footwear even boots.
Last year I took an online course in frontend web development, for 6 months I studied for an average of more than10 hours daily learning from HTML and now React.js. I learnt figma, scss, CSS, Version control, jquery, bootstrap, Chakra UI and react.js, it was a tough one because I had to forfeit other means of making money. I got hungry so many times, I used my last card to buy data so I can keep studying and doing my projects.

Earlier this month, I finished by portfolio project, I had already worked on 4 projects using react, Jquery, Chakra UI and bootstrap. I designed coupled of web pages using figma.

Earlier this month, my girlfriend who's a data analyst sent me a link for a front-end developer role. In my mind, I didn't feel like I was ripe enough so I didn't apply. 2 days later, I decided to give it a try and so I applied. I was called to come for interview this Monday.

On getting there, the company was working on this revenue web app project they are doing to for a particular state government. I was asked to develop the UI of one of the pages using react, CSS and Tailwind. I have heard of Tailwind before but I have never used it.
I told the interviewer that I have never used tailwind and that I'm proficient using bootstrap. He replied that I should go through tailwind documentation and then use it to style the page on top of react.

So I started reading the documentation, I discovered that it's syntax is somehow similar to Chakra UI which I have used once in my project, the are the same concept of class utility. So I decided to start coding, getting snippets from the documentation and then applying my Chakra UI knowledge to work around it.

To cut the long story short, I coded from 9am in the morning and delivered the page by 5pm.

I was sent an appointment letter today. So my tech journey officially started. It's a junior role though but I'm glad I broke the ice.

The salary is what I have never earned in a month since I was born. 😊

10 hours daily for 6 months? shocked

I guess that JavaScript took am ample of your time.

All these Function, arrays, objects, etc cry

Where did you applied for exemption when your name is not even on senate list.

I have graduated and convocated, done my clearance and collected my Statement of Result.

All I need now is the NYSC exemption certificate ...which I applied for last month.

But I made my findings and realized all my sets are having similar issue.

Our senate has not sent their list to NYSC portal.

I understand better now.
NYSC / Re: Your NYSC Questions Answered by virginboy1(m): 3:42pm On Jan 31
Pleasant greetings to you,

I applied for NYSC exemption in December and now checking the portal for this Batch A I did not see my name but saw the names of some of my course mates on the portal. And Having checking the senate list of my school on the NYSC portal(University of Ibadan), it displayed "No record found, Contact your school for verification of the approved list".

I decided to reachout to one of my course mate that has his name on the Batch A list to check if his name is on the senate list.. He did, but it still displayed same error message of, No record found.

Please will there be any other Batch that will be out soon and when could that be.

Thank You

Saviola86:
don’t accept that job. It will enslave you and make you depend on that 30k and free food.

See what you will do.

Goto car dealers ask them for prices and specs and permission to take pictures.

Let them know that you are reselling so they will give you a good price.

For now target low cars like Toyota Corolla, matrix and Toyota big daddy because they sell very fast because of those using them for Uber/bolt.

When you get the pictures, Goto Facebook market place and post. Keep posting and sharing to other groups. Be persistent and believe me a buyer will come.

If they gave you the car for example 3.5mil you can advertise for 3.8m and be willing to come down to 3.7m (sha add your profit)

Your first sale should motivate you to add more efforts. As you make profit save to pay for Jiji premium plans. Pay for the three months plan (avoid one month) and make sure it’s a high plan you pick.

Don’t stick to only cars, you can Goto other electronics dealers, take pictures, ask for price and market with your own price.

Give yourself 6months and your life will change.

I just gave you a life changing idea. Take it or leave it

Makes lots of sense..Thanks Alot

If it comes with accommodation, the take the job.

But seriously, I don't know how people feel comfortable doing a job for 30k monthly in this economy.

There are odd jobs I can easily engage myself and earn that 30k in a week or even in four days time.

It’s funny when I read certain post like this ,you don’t really need a job ,learn digital marketing.

Few Tips.Start with YouTube

1.Choose to sell a digital product or physical product (source on Jiji)
2.Learn how to run paid facebook advert
3.Learn how to design sales page using Wordpress

You can start this while job hunting, you will employ more hands within 3 to 6 months once you’re focused.

I work full time in UK and I still have more than 10 workers running my e-commerce business in Nigeria .
Starting is the most difficult aspect ,you will be fine .

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: JOBLESSNESS - Giving Up On Tech - Whats Your Take This 2024 by virginboy1(m): 4:17pm On Jan 08
samuelson06:

No wahala bro. I only wish the young man would take it and run with his life.

Usually, I plead with young men around me to exercise a little restrain, fix themselves, and from there, they can go build a family.

All of us would have loved to finish with childbearing before we get to 40 or 42. I would've loved to do that, at least that's what is obtainable in first world countries. Even before 35, many of them are done with childbearing—two or three kids and they done. Before 40, you see their body recovering and the females will appear like they've not given birth before.

But here we are in a country that our leaders don't care about us; nothing works here. The few gains we made as a country, they've destroyed everything as we speak. Today, the once giant of Africa stands like a begger. Nigeria is practically begging for survival. As young people, and we have to understand this sad reality and adjust accordingly.

I come from a humble background so I've tasted poverty. Poverty has a sour and bitter taste. Its color is black, and once it draws you to itself, your life practically becomes like the black color, a dark night, and a nightmare. The taste of your life becomes sour and bitter, and everyone tries to distant themselves from you—not because they truly hate you, but because you have nothing to offer—nothing to offer yourself, nor your children. There and then, it becomes clear to you that your life is a waste. But you had the chance not to get here cry

Sometimes, I don't teach people how to lead a good life. I sit with them and talk about poverty and the moment they make up their mind to reject that demon, they become motivated to work—putting everything else aside and just fight to defeat that monster.

Being a Nigerian, I know this country so well and I know it may never change—at least, not in this generation. So, I seize every opportunity to talk to young people about ways they can fix their life independent of the support they ought to get from the government. The task may be enormous but it's surmountable. It requires patience, hardwork, consistency, focus, and determination to succeed.

You'll be wasting your time if you keep jumping from one hustle to another. It shows that you are not serious or you may be too in a hurry to make it. Let's take the poster here for example, he's invested some amount of time, money, and other resources into becoming a frontend developer and he's on his way to becoming an expert in that field. Sadly, he now feels he's been wasting his time choosing a path that doesn't work and now feels like throwing away the experience and momentum he's been gathering in the coding sphere.

If that happens, he's going to start all over again elsewhere. Meanwhile, they are people succeeding where he's running away from and all he needed was to build on what he's known already and keep forging ahead. When it comes to success, you don't do magic. You just have to find a way and keep building up the momentum and with time, even nature will bear witness with your spirit that you've done your best and it's time for you to be announced to the world.

I can keep talking and talking. There's a formula to succeeding even in a rough country like Nigeria, but you have to be serious. It's not a game of luck but hard work—putting first things first, and not giving up.

I wish all of us the best in 2024.

This period is the worst period be a Nigerian youth ,the government has completely crippled and humiliated us. The economy is very bad and even worse, things are getting out of hand every blessed day.

My problem with Nigerians are our spirit of adaptation , I can promise you dat if fuel sells for 5k per litre people would still buy after complaining heavily , cause thats all we do ,complain bitterly but everyone would at d end of the day find ways to adapt.

For how long are we going to continue this way for christ sake? Almost all the youth are into one fraudulent activity or the other these days and the most decent looking ladies have a very troublesome amount of body count these days as well.

How I wish we can all in our frustrations pay Tinubu a visit at Aso rock , atleast make we protest heavily reach him side cus im fed up honestly.

I'm a bachelor but im still managing like a student , bills upon bills and worst you dont even get to enjoy for these services you pay for at all.

You cant even find an understanding girlfriend anymore in this country. Omo make I stop here before I go craze , Nigeria matter fit make man craze .

My brother its crazy ooo. So many wrong elements has infiltrated the government. And all they know is just to cash out. And the sad thing is that the few good ones that are there are likely to get pounced on for doing what is right.

If you spend more than that in two weeks, how is the big deal? Your mates are spending more than 2 million within a week, you are boasting of spending ordinary 200k in two weeks. Can you imagine someone is starting up his life and is seeking advice, rather to shut your trap if you don't have any reasonble thing to say, you tell him to spend his capital. Is that what you wete told before you reach this present level you are? All these Nigerians and Pull-Him-Down (PHD) mentality.
