Politics / 48th Nigerian Independence by Virgo83(m): 3:02am On Oct 01, 2008
As the 48th Nigerian Independence nears, I find myself musing on a daily basis, on issue concerning Politics in Nigeria. Nigeria, in search of a transformation in the way and manner the leader leads the led, has for decades now, tried to embrace Democracy i.e. a government of the people, by the people, chosen by the people, to lead the people. From Civilian to Military to Civilian rule, Nigeria is still in search of Democracy. Democracy is not necessarily synonymous with Civilian rule. Democracy is Democracy only when the generality of the people are given the chance to have a proper say in how they are led.

Forty-eight years on, I muse, Nigeria is gripped tightly by what I would call demonised Democracy. A government of the people in most cases, by sneaky, snaky, money-corrupt, weak, scheming, power-corrupt, sugar tongued vipers; who have no inkling about ruling the people in integrity, trust, diligence and love, so that the generality of the people could be emancipated. Oh no, let the generality of the people be emaciated; this is their creed. Give Democracy a chance, we cry everyday. Oh no, Democracy is that little object, enshrouded fully in stained white linens of deceit and foolery. Democracy, to many leaders, simply put, is fooling or attempting to fool most of the people most of the time. How sad.

Most Politicians now, as soon as they assume power, have just the one or two agenda in mind; absolute power, & absolute looting. They gang together, form cloned groups, and some are so joined together in their evil meander and metier that you could think of nothing but Siamese twins when you see them in action. There are some honest, hardworking politicians of integrity and clout, but unfortunately these are grossly in the minority. They are soon frustrated or nearly snuffed out of extinction, except the resilient few who will not give up, come what may. The going for these is hard and tough, but with prayers and support, they carry on, hoping that one day, through them Democracy would wear its crown.

Still musing on the political climate in Nigeria, I travel on territories new, searching for answers, but beholding instead a charade of compromised Democratic Aspirants. Two faced mongrels who would suck up to any master; Scoundrels who have along the line buttered so many people’s breads, but alas with what belongs to the common man; and the worst of all, clueless nonentities who are empowered as lap dogs. My thoughts travel on, and I behold the many faces of politics in Nigeria, the salient riggers; the nincompoops; the treacherous piranhas; the sweet coated bee-like personnel, who give out the placebo effect, then sting and sting hard; and the ever to remember brutish bullies.

Alas, all is lost, I cried out. True Democracy can never make it in Nigeria. All is lost. Nigeria has remained a fool at forty, and will be a fool forever. I felt sick; I was in the lowest ebb of disillusionment, for I am one of those who had taken up the fight for true democracy, good governance and emancipation of the ordinary people, so deep at heart. The only light at my tunnel at that point in time, was my inner resolve never to give up on the fight for Democracy, no matter what. I will support those identified individuals who had the makings of true democratic leaders. Who are they I mused deeper? How can they be found, I pondered? How many of such are left in Nigeria? As far as I was concerned, Nigeria has too many political parties. Nigeria is highly factionalised, ethnically, socially, politically, religiously etc. Politics in Nigeria is a matter of betting, bluffing, and playing poker. Within same political parties, there is further divide. So where do the honest and humane individuals turn to. I was so in thought, concentrating on the Elijah, Ahab, Jezebel and Prophets of Baal story in the Bible while still musing on Nigerian Politics. Then a still small voice whispered unto me as I pondered deeper. DAVID AND GOLIATH. Then a new understanding of the Nigerian Political world started to unfold. All parties, all peoples and all leaders are clearly divided into only TWO distinct groups.

On the one hand are the Goliaths, many are they, boastful & arrogant schemers, unscrupulous elements, mischief makers, rumour mongers, mandate stealers, corrupt and greed infested looters, short-sighted political nonentities, fifth columnists, agents of destabilisation, gainsayers and sycophants… the list was endless. These first sets of politicians abound and are in the majority. They have been unleashed on the people to deceive, to loot and corrupt, just like Lucifer was released to the peril of the earth and to the utter delight of the heavens. They parade themselves clothed in stolen apparels and attires of office; they dish out unscrupulously stolen goods and stolen money from the people’s treasury; buying themselves adulations and man made glory. They treat the led as their personal belongings and decide when to utilise or discard at will. A whole state soon becomes a family affair, they unashamedly bribe with words and all they have at their disposal. Integrity and honesty are two words that are near extinction as far as this group is concerned.

Goliaths they are for they make the ordinary citizens around them sore afraid. They intimidate and treat the common man with disdain, then defy rulers and contenders, declaring that there is none like them. They defy the rules of God and rules of man; they brag and boast while still looting and killing. Goliaths are they for they believe no one can ever oust them; they have lost all sense of shame and decorum – (no sense and sensibility). Goliaths are they for they are unstable in their ways; never wanting anything good for the masses. Goliaths are they for they are the true murderers of DEMOCRACY.

Now I am very alert and alive. Why is this still small voice telling me about David and Goliath? This story I have known since kindergarten. One thing is sure that now brings me hope for a brighter future, DAVID IN ALL SIMPLICITY KILLED GOLIATH. Yes David killed Goliath not with military might and power. David was not even clad in armour and body suits. David rejected all that his earthly king Saul tried to laden him with – armour, helmet, coat of mail and sword. “I cannot go with these”, he said, “for I have not proved them”. David went out to battle against Saul only with what rightly belonged to him – his sling and five small pebbles. But David went out with much more than that against Goliath. David had been anointed by God previously and was bound to excel in all he did. David had been earmarked for success and lasting acclaim. He had the right attitude and attribute to deliver and emancipate the fearful poor and needy. David had boldness, resilience and a proven track record of accomplishment. Didn’t he in time past wrestle and kill a lion to save his poor sheep?

One more thing that David had which Goliath didn’t and never would have is this; David had the backing of God because he was a God fearing believer. So David prevailed over Goliath and slew him without a sword, and cut off his head. The followers of Goliath scattered that day and fled. They were overtaken and brought to justice. Democracy will still win the day.

This is the story of Democracy in Nigeria. All is not lost, says the Lord of hosts. For “I AM” is raising a people of power, a people of grace, a peace loving, commendable people who are given to good governance. He raised David to overcome Goliath, so will He raise people who will put an end to this reign of corruption, deception, political divide & jargons; and utter shambolic rule of neglect in Nigeria. We are now at a crucial political stage in Nigeria. You can only either be a David or a Goliath. No more no less. You can only follow the Davids or the Goliaths. You can no longer continue to have your cake and eat it. Sitting on the fence you are nothing. All is not lost Nigeria. The Davids are coming and the Davids are multiplying and the Davids will one day take over.

This is my Independence Day message to my dear motherland. Nigeria I hail thee.

Remain Blessed.

Islam for Muslims / Re: Does Islam Come From The Decendants Of Ishmael The First Son Of Abraham by Virgo83(m): 8:32pm On Aug 24, 2008
PEACE AND BLESSINGS OF ALLAH (S.W.T) BE UPON YOU ALL.
What a very Revealing topic we got here'''''''''''''

@ Olabowale, a job well done, My Brother. May the Almighty Allah enrich your Ikmat. I really appreciate what you're doing here.

ON THE TOPIC
ISLAM, does not come from the Descendants of Ismail (Ishmael) but It is their Religion of His Fore Fathers right from Adam.

QUR'AN : Ch. XLII :13 Stated,
The same religion has He established for you as that which He  enjoined on Noah -Thee which We have sent by inspiration to thee -And that which We enjoined on Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: Namely, that ye shall remain steadfast in Religion, and make no division s therein : To those who worship other things than God, hard is the (way) to which thou callest them, God chooses to Himself those whom He pleases, and guides to Himself those who turn (to Him)

God's Religion is the same in essence, whether given, for example, to Nuhu(Noah), Ibraham(Abraham), Musa(Moses), Or Isa(Jesus), or to our Holy Prophet (MUHAMMAD).
The source of unity is the revelation  from God. In Islam it is "established" as an institution, and does not remain merely a vague suggestion.

So my argument is that Islam is the Religion  practice by Adam then Nuhu and Ibrahim. So in addition, the Children of Ibrahim, both Isiaq(Isaac) and Ismail(Ishmael) were Muslims and those of their Children. But Islam got is Name from Ibrahim and since then it is known as Islam'''''see below

QUR'AN: Ch. XXII : 78
And strive in His cause as ye ought to strive, (with sincerity and under discipline). He has chosen you, and has no difficulties on you in religion; it is the cult of your father Abraham. It is He who has named you Muslims, both before and in this (Revelation); that the apostle may be a witness for you, and te be witness for mankind! So establish regular prayer, Give regular Charity, And hold fast to God! He is your protector  -the best to protect and the best to help.

We need not to argue a lot, if Islam as a religion will A Religion Of Anybody(any soul), It will be from Ibrahim(Abraham) the Father of Faith. And that makes all His Descendant Muslims.

To For likes of Davidylan:
Why do you keep saying what you have no knowledge about, Its purely unfair. If you guys are not Muslims then stop peeping into the Topics on this page. If you had nothing to do with your time why don't you get something ideal to keep you busy instead of this idleness of yours, I blame you not "owo to ba dile leshu wa sefun".

As for the likes of Olabowale: may you never Stumble
I beseech on Allah (S.W.T) to keep showering His Mercy and Blessings upon you and your Household(s).  Amin.

Islam for Muslims / Re: Can Women Be Leaders In Islam? by Virgo83(m): 9:43am On Aug 17, 2008
As Salaamu Alaykum Warah'motullahi Wabarakatuhu,
I appreciate your concerns especially those that have so far taken this Topic as a Personal Issue. This is a very complicated issue we have at hand, it's not suppose to be taken personal but we must view it in its Generality as an Islamist. I'm not here to condemn anybody, but to enhance the Originality of Islam and bring out the Beauty it possessed.

powderPink:

screw Islam, its a huge Farce.

QUR'AN: Ch. vi : 70 Stated;
Leave alone those who take their Religion to be mere play and amusement, And are deceived by the life of this world. But proclaim (to them) this (truth): that every soul delivers itself to ruin by its own acts: it will find for himself no protector or intercessor except God: if it offer every ransom, (or Reparation), none will be accepted: such is (The end of) those who deliver themselves to ruin by their own acts: They will have for drink (only) boiling water, and for punishment, One most grievous: for they persisted in rejecting God.

@ powerdink
there are certain Religion Issues we mustn't be taken as mere play, what is at stake here concern you and I (if you're my Brother), You needed to seek Deliverance then Forgiveness for your disgusting comment.

Queenisha:

Sexism of the highest order.
Nairaland is a secular forum my friend.
Don't carry your female 3rd class mentality in here.
If people like you had their way, she'll be wearing a burqua and locked up behind a wooden gate.

This is not sexism neither a Third Class Mentality as you thought or might been taught but purely SHERIHIYYATUL ISLAMIYAT (ISLAMIC LAW & JURISPUNDENCE) at the Highest Order. I never recommend a Veil for Her neither stated She being pull behind a Wooden Gate But that's left to Her Husband if He wills. I never said Nairaland's not a forum with Secular Instincts, But in terms of Secularity, Islam Has to be left with,- To Its Guiding LAWS and JURISPUNDENCE.

And Note QUR'AN: Ch. XLIX: 17, "They impress on thee as a favour that they have emraced Islam. Say, "Count not your Islam as a favour upon me: Nay, God Has conferred a favour upon you that He has guided you to the Faith , if Be true and sincere."

Words in Bold and Italic is explaining that Islam Has its Principle, An Islamist must be Guided upon. So any where it mightr be these Principles must be followed even on Nairaland.

Queenisha:

well she was the owner of the business and he was a mere errand boy aka boiboi
did you expect her to hand over a business she built with her sweat over to a caravan driver who had no clue how the business started just because he became her husband ?
Your example here doesn't jive honey

ayinba1:

@ Queenisha
Ayinba1, Queenisha need not only to read again but to seek what She understand not.
So Queenisha seek and you shall find,
find and you shall be taught,
Be taught and you shall know, then you'll acknowledge the Biography of The Noble Prophet.

Queenisha, you know not the meaning of what you've done abusing the Personality of the Most Noble of ALL THE PROPHET, referring to Him as boiboi. You dear mind you the way you uses your words 'cause if this got publish to the General populace (Public), I thought you knew its complication.

Immediately the NOBLE PROPHET accepted the Proposal by KHADIJAH to marry Her, He assume the Leadership of their Household, Her Business and She got Submitted to Him Solemnly.

mukina2:

Chapter 4, Verse 124.
" And whoever does righteous good deeds, male or female, and is a true believer in the Oneness of Allah (Muslim), such will enter Paradise and not the least injustice, even to the size of a Naqira (speck on the back of a date-stone), will be done to them. Chapter 33, Verse 35
"Verily, the Muslims (those who submit to Allah in Islam) men and women, the believers men and women (who believe in Islamic Monotheism), the men and the women who are obedient (to Allah), the men and women who are truthful (in their speech and deeds), the men and the women who are patient (in performing all the duties which Allah has ordered and in abstaining from all that Allah has forbidden), the men and the women who are humble (before their Lord Allah), the men and the women who give Sadaqat (i.e. Zakat, and alms, etc.), the men and the women who observe Saum
(fast) (the obligatory fasting during the month of Ramadan, and the optional Nawafil fasting), the men and the women who guard their chastity (from illegal sexual acts) and the men and the women who remember Allah much with their hearts and tongues (while sitting, standing, lying, etc. for more than 300 times extra over the remembrance of Allah during the five compulsory congregational prayers) or praying extra additional Nawafil prayers of night in the last part of night, etc.) Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise).

There are other verses you know . . . . lots of them sef

In other words,i am simply trying to let you know that Islam accepts that all human beings are equal, and should be dealt with according to the principle of equality.

In the Holy Qur'an and Sunnah it was repeated over and over again that Allah favours one over another based on that person's awareness, consciousness, fear, love. All other criteria are excluded: gender, ethnic group, country, ancestry, etc.

I am a human being as you are and i do not think my gender affects my judgement. I do not wished to be judged according to my gender .
I do not have to a second class citizen jsut because i am female . .

I think as Muslims we should stop interpreting Sharia wrongly.

if we do not know certain things, its better we ask, than assume.

Female LeadersThere are many more contemporary examples of women leading Muslim-majority countries. Remarkably, a majority of all Muslims in the world live in countries that have, at some time, elected women as their leaders.[3] Indeed, four of the five most populous Muslim-majority countries have had women as leaders:

* Indonesia, the most populous Muslim-majority country, elected Megawati Sukarnoputri as president
* Pakistan, the second most populous Muslim-majority country, twice (non-consecutively) elected Benazir Bhutto as prime minister
* Bangladesh, the third most populous Muslim-majority country, elected Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina as prime ministers
* Turkey, the fifth most populous Muslim-majority country, elected Tansu Çiller as prime minister

ma salaam cool

@ Frizy
truly as the Moderator still In charge you have the right to contribute but as the Sub-Subject you should have not contributed so soon, this is where I disagree with Frizy:

Frizy:

@poster
Have you not heard a woman heading some Muslims in a Jihad against the kafrs? Or was Queen Sheba not in power even after she submitted to Islam?.
I will check your facts, but this sounds "Saudi Salafi inclined" to me. undecided

I think the question we should ask is, is she doing her job well?

In the other area, 'Pages and on Topics' She might have been doing a Perfect Job But here you can see she can not and that's part of the Reason the SHERIAH LAW condemn their Leadership in Public.

And as for the Story of Queen Sheba (BALIQIYZ), it is of the Dark Age, I bet you guys understand this.
It as happen hundred of years before the Arrival of the Noble Prophet Muhammad, Before the Teachings of Islam.

@ Mukina2
I relieve you not of your position here, you're doing a great job But Protocols must be followed according to the Fact that this Page is Purely islamic. I appreciate and admire your courage but the truth as to reveal itself.
See this:

QUR'AN: Ch. IV: 34,
Men are the Protectors and Maintainers of Women,Because God Has given the one more (Strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the Righteous Women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the Husband) absence what God would have them guard. And to those women on whose part you fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance): For God is Most High, Great (above you all).

and Note that those References you pointed out does not emphasized the Equality of Men and Women neither did it stated that Men and Women are equal.

I never regarded you as a Second Class Citizen in Islam neither judge you according to your Gender, But I am Stating the Islamic Perspective on Leadership.

Islam for Muslims / Re: Any Nasfat Member In The House? by Virgo83(m): 4:56am On Aug 16, 2008
Surely all Believers are Brothers.
What is going on here is nothing to be bothered about, all what the topic is about is to identify NASFAT Member in the House, Not for any special purpose I presume. So no need of taking it too personal, We are all Brothers, bounded together with the Brotherhood of Islam.

N.B. Stop attacking your brother's opinion or request as long as it goes not the boundary of Halaal, what we needed to do is to strengthen the Brotherhood by any means you can.
NASFAT is a means of propagating Islam,'like the ANSARUDEEN and the NAWARUDEEN' and we must not by any means condemn it but encourage and enhance it prospect. If you know you can by no chance propagate this Noble Religion of Ours never you condemn those that were able to do so.

As for NOIBILISM you should never relent in your effort and for MUSTAY, a job well done.

Dating And Meet-up Zone / Re: Can Someone Get A Real Sweetheart On Internet (A GIRL/LADY)? by Virgo83(m): 4:10pm On Jul 27, 2008
If it's according to the NAIJA-THING, I'll say one can not get a real Partner from the net,
But if it's the OYINBO-THING, impossibility could be possible -a real partner is on the wait, this is definitely an understatement on the part of the Naija People.
Why don't we rise up to those things the outside world write us off on, and prove to the entire world we're not under dog.
