She spoke calmly of HER negative experience with the Nigerian police to illustrate the dichotomy in her view between a bad police force and a proper one - to explain why SHE trusts and values the British police force in contrast to the police she experienced growing up in Nigeria.

She didn't lie or denigrate, she spoke plain facts which I'm sure many Nigerians can relate to, and even worse, at the hands of the police.

Is there no way that they could be given time to work and raise money for the kids to apply later, even if their visa has expired?

Consider these options:

Personal (bank) loan
Payday loan (check google for providers)
Bank overdraft
Credit card (increase the limit or apply for more if you have exhausted the limits in your current one)
Loan from family and friends
Salary advance from work (speak to your HR)

Finally, book a flight and let them go back home to Nigeria before their visas expire. When you raise money, apply for them to join you as dependants just like you want to apply for them now and there won't be any issues.

You have used your credit card, you have borrowed loan, in your shoes, I would personally go with this last option rather than incur more debt. It's not a big deal so don't overthink it. It will even give you time to do more work and stabilise your finances.

I think rates are derived mainly from supply and demand + economic activities (or lack of)...

I still believe there is a synergy. All these money transfer apps cannot just be determining their rates. I know home office for instance use Oanda but I'm not sure which the transfer apps uses.

Does anyone know where Lemonade and the likes get their own exchange rates from? Like is there an API that provides them the rates or they determine this themselves.

This is my personal experience as the journey is personal, some other people in my family have different views but they still go to church because it’s natural to do that from childhood. I could not reconcile the reality with what is happening in the church.

I saw a video of a Nigerian pastor boasting how he brought his 3rd private jet during COVID and that he didn’t want COVID to end and church members are clapping for him.
