Politics / Letter To President Buhari From Ali Baba by vivianblog2(f): 3:05pm On Nov 02, 2015
Mr President... I am a Nigerian comedian. I have done it for over 25 years. However, I am also a writer, a poet, father, a photographer, real estate investor, oil and gas player, motivational speaker, brand catalyst, social media junkie, ideas generator and lover of printed materials. I also have been a social, economic, political and general observer of trends. My opinion may not be back up by a professional calling like that of the people who parade themselves around. I do not want political appointment, I have said no to offers before. You may want to ask my father, OBJ. I say it as it is and if you ask him he will also tell you what the consequences of not listening will be. Many now regret not listening. Fight corruption like you are doing now and punish all who have enriched themselves by defrauding this country. Confiscate all their properties. Withdraw their national honoured if they got any. Blacklist banks and financial institutions that were used as conduit for robbing the state of her funds. Jail the people who dipped their hands in our pensions fund, charge them for the deaths of people who died on the queue waiting for accreditation while someone was lounging on their hard earned sweat. Prosecute whoever failed to carry out the ruling of all the justices who sat at the Supreme Court that directed that Justice Salami be reinstated but nothing was done. Strengthen the security agencies. Jail policemen who abuse their powers. Lock up military men who cross their boundaries. In short as you have started tackling corruption follow it to the end and our country will get back to reckoning in the comity of nations. By the way, your line used during elections is not working again. You lost the phone?

Celebrities / 5 Things You May Not Know About Nigeria - Ali Baba by vivianblog2(f): 2:42pm On Nov 02, 2015
Regarding what PMB is saying about how broke Nigeria is, I TOTALLY SUPPORT it. We are broke. We do not need to keep up appearances when our economy is disappearing. Do we still have an economy or just a market for foreign economies? If you are in a pit that you want to come out of, you must stop digging! Except you are making money from the depth of that pit you are digging. That is exactly why it's hard to assist some people in Nigeria.

One lady met me after an event the other day and told me of how she needs to complete her school fees of 185k. She only has 78k. I nearly gave it a thought then she asked for an #alibabaandi. And brings out an #iphone6splus. I guess that's what many people are expecting PMB to do.

Give the outside world we are OK look. No sir. Tell them of the potentials here. Tell them things have been mismanaged. Tell them that we are dealing with the thing that brought us here in the first place. CORRUPTION. Let the world know that they all had a hand in the condition we are in. Because our stolen monies have developed their real estate sectors & boosted the liquidity of their banks. Our stolen monies continued to boost their fashion industry. Let them know that our industries all died because of corruption.

And that they did nothing to help fight it. Tell them they welcomed the monies stolen with a bowl! And then sent us grants after making profits from same. PMB should not cover anything up! Tell them that whoever buys stolen crude from Nigerian vessels will be named and shamed! Tell them we are broke. Shout it. Tell them that in spite of that, we have natural resources and untapped potentials. We have NOLLYWOOD. We have numbers. Land. Waterways.

Rail sector begs for investors. Huge electricity needs. That's business waiting for them. We have a revitalized Code of Conduct bureau. We have CHANGE! So it's no more business as usual. Don't paint us good when we need help. You can't say your son is an A-star student fit for scholarship, when he can't speak well, read and write. We are not where we should be. It's good the world knows. If you have a load you want to carry, people will only help if u bend to carry it, not by just standing by it!

Crime / Story Of A Paralyzed Woman After A Robbery Attack - Real Story by vivianblog2(f): 3:20pm On Oct 27, 2015

30-year-old Jane Nwangi was walking home from a church service on the evening of May 28, 2015, when she was attacked by a thug. The experience has turned her whole life upside down. Jane shares her story with The Star, Kenya:
"I live with my parents in Civil Servants Estate in Kariobangi South. The area is not very safe and has seen many incidents of mugging and shooting. It was worsened by upcoming constructions where gangs would hide and attack people walking by.
I had just alighted from a matatu and was walking home at about 7.30pm. I was talking to a friend as we headed to my gate. Out of the darkness, a young, bearded man stood in front of us, blocking our way. He looked nervous, but demanded for our valuables.

I gave him what I had in my hands: a Huawei mobile phone. He quickly went to the M-pesa app and started fidgeting with it. With him distracted, my friend managed to get away, leaving me at the mercy of the thug. He demanded for my PIN to access the cash. Too frightened to think straight, I mumbled some numbers. He put the pin and when he could not access the money, whipped out a gun and in a split second, fired it through my chest. Everything happened so fast. The pain was unbearable and I started losing consciousness. I could not scream as loud but kept begging him to spare my life. He ran off into the darkness.

The bullet hit my right shoulder and went through my back. It was trapped by my sweater where it hang until the doctors saw it. I fell on my back. I could hear sounds far away but did not make much sense of them. I was repeating the Mpesa pin as if the assailant was still there. The gunshot reverberated through my neighbourhood, attracting attention. The first person to respond was my immediate neighbour. I could hear her desperation as she exclaimed, “They shot Jane!” She started shouting for help. My parents came very fast, and got me to a nearby hospital which referred me to Kenyatta National Hospital.

However, it was at Coptic Hospital where I was admitted the same night. The doctors worked hard and fast to control the bleeding. The next day, I went through hours of surgery. The doctors informed me that the bullet missed my spine by only a millimetre. It however destroyed nerves in the area, leaving my whole body without feeling. I was coming to terms with the events of the previous night when the surgeons came to my bed side.

They told me as calmly as they could, that I may never walk again, since the bullet grazed nerves on my thoracic spinal cord area. I could not feel the lower section of my body, so I could as well assume I won’t walk for a while. But never walk again? The news left me dumbfounded.

I would undergo painful physiotherapy sessions every day at the hospital. But I was determined to get my whole life back. After some weeks of treatment, I was discharged. I have no control of my bowels so I use a catheter. My mother has to clean me up as well as do everything else for me. Everything. Would you imagine being washed by your mom at 30 years?

I also needed a special orthopaedic mattress that cost Sh80,000. A good Samaritan offered the mattress for free. I could not turn myself in bed, or even sit up without assistance. This left me with bed sores, some so severe that I have been in and out of hospital for treatment. The life of loneliness, being bed ridden and house-bound, began. Out of empathy, my friends raised funds to get me a wheelchair. I had to learn how to operate it to get me around.

Having a catheter inserted in the body to pass urine is another whole world of learning. I am more prone to urinary tract infections now and must take medications to clear them. We were not prepared for this when I was discharged from hospital, and it has taken its toll on me. When we sought a second opinion, the neurosurgeon said that it is possible for me to walk again. He had noticed some form of movement inside my legs’ nerves. He then concluded that since my legs experience occasional spasms, it means the nerves are still capable of function. This meant I could walk again!
That was the good news. However, the treatment was only available abroad, he said, because no Kenyan hospital has the ability to treat me beyond what I have received so far. My friends have taken to searching for a hospital that can offer rehabilitative treatment to help me. We have been in communication with a hospital in Texas, USA. They have gone through my medical records and have responded. They quoted a treatment regime that can help me regain control of my bowel movement, and get me off the catheter. For that, I need at least Sh10 million ($100,000). That would be followed by more rehabilitative treatment to help me regain use of my lower body.

I have made it this far because of many well-wishers who have heard my story and sent in their Mpesa contributions. No matter the amount whether Sh50, Sh200, it has helped me through hospital stays, which have been very expensive. So far, I have spent close to a million shillings. I have no medical insurance, and I am still unemployed. It is the power of friendships that has paid my bills this far.

I need money to make it through the treatment, and my friends and former university colleagues both in Kenya and abroad are helping me. I later learnt that my Huawei mobile phone, which was stolen that fateful night, was eventually sold on OLX. It was later returned to me, after being tracked by law enforcement.

I cannot use it, because of the trauma it brings. To this day, I am yet to find out who the seller and buyer of the phone were.

Crime / Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspects In Akwa Ibom With Locally-made Guns by vivianblog2(f): 8:28pm On Oct 25, 2015
Two suspected armed robbers, Ita Bassey and Kufre Eyo, have been arrested by men of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command who recovered locally-made firearms in the process.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Murtala Mani, who was represented by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Cordelia Nwawe, an assistant superintendent of police, told newsmen while parading them, that the suspects were apprehended over the weekend by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, following a tip-off. He said some of the bandits were still at large, adding that the police were on the trail of the remaining suspects.

It was also revealed that when the two suspected armed robbers were arrested, the police went to their homes and conducted a search.

He noted that it was at that point that the locally-made firearms were found and recovered.

“The very able SARS team of Akwa Ibom State Police Command have tracked down two suspected armed robbers. They are Ita Bassey and Kufre Eyo. The police recovered locally-made guns from them.

“Some are still at large; we will not mention their names, but there is no hiding place for criminals here in Akwa Ibom State. The residences of these suspected armed robbers were searched and the firearms were found,” Mani said.

The commissioner said no individual had the right to be in possession of firearms.

He, however, urged members of the public to make necessary report on any suspected movement around them, adding that such gesture would contribute to the safety of citizens.

Speaking with one of the suspects, Bassey, a native of Ndak Etoi, Uyo Local Government Area, told journalists that he was not an armed robber, but a cultist.

He corroborated the police report by saying that a search was conducted in his residence and that the police discovered locally-made firearms.

He said, “I am a cultist. The police brought me here with one of my friends and took me to my house to search and they discovered locally-made firearms.
“I am not the owner of the guns. It was my big man, who is a cultist, that gave me the guns and that is what I told the police. I have never robbed before. My friend made me join cultism but he did not tell me that it was going to be like this,” Bassey added.
