If you have the money, you should remark everything. We remarked IELTS a couple of months ago (writing only since that was what we needed) and we went up from a 6.5 to an 8. It makes you wonder what these markers are doing. So, I think you should definitely remark. Your score can't go down. Worst case scenario, you lose the fee. saintv2: |
fruitartist:If you did not live in Canada as a temporary resident before you landed in 2022, the answer is no. You however have to file a 2022 return. The deadline for most people to file a 2022 return is April 30, 2023 https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/international-non-residents/individuals-leaving-entering-canada-non-residents/newcomers-canada-immigrants.html |
saskatoonguy:This is a tough one. While no one can predict the future cutoffs for EE draws, 488 is a decent score. Regardless of whether you are an accompanying/non-accompanying spouse, you would need proof of funds for 3. Assuming that you intend to eventually join your family in Canada, your wife will need to submit a sponsorship application for you - added time, costs, and a separate process. Also, if your wife and son did end up in Canada without you, it might be more difficult for them to assimilate as a family of 2. In theory, you could get a visitor's visa and spend time with them while figuring out spousal sponsorship, but even that isn't guaranteed. This is a decision your family needs to make based on your situation, but if it were me, the 5 additional points wouldn't be worth it. Are there other things you can do to improve your score while staying in the pool at 488? Maybe retaking IELTS? Completing an additional certificate? |
fruitartist:There are many... It depends on your field and what you are looking for in a diploma. I suggest doing some research using Google. If the diploma is from a Canadian college/university, you wouldn't need to complete an ECA. However, there are online diplomas available in many other countries - you'll just have to do an additional ECA for the second credential. |
fumisko:The RFV email has detailed instructions on how to find your nearest Visa Application Centre and the documents you should take with you. Most people walk/mail their documents to VFS in Lagos or Abuja. Some mail their documents to Accra or Nairobi for faster processing. A lot of this information is on Page 1, but you can find more info in this thread if you search. |
ciwi:8 months part-time. Mostly asynchronous. I can't remember how many points but you can use the points calculator to find out. |
Miide2:Thanks! After logging in, the "current status" said "Application/profile updated", but there was no new update. No emails either (until RFV). |
I wanted to share an update on timelines. Single applicant. ITA - Nov 2022 AOR - Jan 4, 2023 Medicals updated - Jan 16 Biometrics linked (from denied student visa application) - Jan 16 RFV - Feb 20 Logged in pretty frequently and signed up for the new application status tracker, but no new updates since Jan 16. The new tracker said eligibility had not started right up until RFV email - it has since been updated to show all components passed. Noticed a ghost update a day before RFV. We used a notarized gift deed (multiple transactions) as proof of funds. He took an online diploma at a Canadian university and used that (along with his Nigerian BSc) as 2 or more degrees. We only intended to get points for 2 or more degrees, but he also got points for Canadian education thanks to a slight change in IRCC regulations due to COVID-19. |
Adunnishugar:Although your sentiment towards this person is that they are a sibling, you are in no way legally related. IRCC only considers blood relatives, adoption, and marriage/common-law partnership (i.e, step-siblings) when determining sibling relationship. Although pictures prove a close relationship, they don't prove a sibling relationship as described on IRCC's website. |
Naijafreespirit:https://www.rate-my-agent.com/Toronto-ON-Agent-Ratings/ <-- look at reviews, Call a few and interview them. If it's your first time buying a home, research using Google and read about do's, don'ts, things to avoid, red flags, etc. Don't sign a Buyer Representation Agreement until you are ready to make an offer with your agent - and even then, don't sign one that locks you in for an unreasonably long period. Avoid agents that make you sign a BRA before agreeing to work with you. More on that here: https://settlement.org/ontario/housing/buy-a-home/buying-basics/should-i-sign-a-buyer-representation-agreement-with-a-real-estate-agent/ General resources here: https://settlement.org/ontario/housing/buy-a-home/ |
tshtsh:You seem dismissive of everyone who posts here because you have had more experiences in Canada, and you know a few people who confirm your beliefs about this situation. That's fair enough. But maybe you'd take me more seriously since I have been in Canada for almost 15 years (and worked a survival job for some of those years). As @NuCypher pointed out, your story is not the norm, and it really doesn't matter that you know friends of friends who have similar stories. Also, the notion that people are where they are (or that they get the opportunities they get) solely based on the effort they put in is one of the most dangerous narratives in society today. You could have been job searching at a time when the demand was high; your UK credentials could have helped; the fact that you were so established in Nigeria could have also been a factor - the point is that there are SO many other variables (apart for you "trying" ) that helped you get where you are today. I respectfully disagree with most of the points you used to justify a soft landing, but I guess that's what your experience (and that of the people around you) has been. Of course, that view may broaden as time passes and you talk to more people. To everyone on this forum, I want to say what a great community this is. I wish I had known about it while processing my application a few years back! I'm only here now because I am helping someone with their application. Reading through this forum allows me to monitor the timelines since people are so kind to post important updates. Good luck to everyone! |
