@all,
The best way to make it in Nigeria (and in life) is not to expect any help i.e. dunno wait for nobody to help you..
The best way to do that, as an average Nigerian is to work on short plays (i.e. movies less than 30 mins [there are short films of less than a minute that wins award]).
With these few steps, i think you'll have a cute future in movie production...
1.) Try to buy/ steal a camera or a camcoder with at least 10MP, or buy a used one.
2.) If you can't afford that now, try to make friends with people that lease, a very good one is around 5K per day/2
3.) If you cant afford those stuffs, just hold on...
a.) write a very short script (browse the net or contact me to send some to you.)
b.) search the net or contact me to give you a list available short script competitions
4.) If you have your camera. Research on short film production (so far you started scripting without going to school, you can do this too)
5.) After that, call your friends and start working on it
6.) open a youtube account and do these
i). either make it secure or make it open(you can make money from your movies on youtube)
ii). either way, you are still good...
7.) Not forgetting the fact that you still have full moves O...
WHY I WENT THROUGH THAT IS BECAUSE, YOU CAN SELL SHORT FILMS, ENTER COMPETITIONS WITH SHORT FILM SCRIPTS, OR HAVE A BARGAINING POWER. CONTACT MOVIE PRODUCERS ABROAD AND GET THEM TO YOUR YOUTUBE PAGE TO SEE HOW VOOD YOU ARE, USE YOUR FILMS TO GET SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDY ABROAD E.T.C
I DON TIRE!!!!!

Fhemmmy: I think they first need to be able to do movies that makes sense.
I watched one Nigerian movie and i was so embarrassed cos i have some Ghana dudes over that day, in the movie, a dude was stab in the left eye, but when they were gonna bandage, the right eye was sealed and the next scene, it was the left eye and another scene was the right again.

Yeah.. those stuffs among other things are bound to happen. What actually happened there is a "continuity problem". It's either the person in charge of the continuity has been changed or the person handling the continuity is also handling another aspect. And... What you must know is that Nigerian movies can never compete with hollywood's (for now) because piracy is rampant here than any where in the world. Most of the movies we produce in Nigeria are low budget (i.e little financing/ little capital). In america, a good film produced around few million dollars should boast of at the very least (10 million copies of sale worldwide). Whereas, in Nigeria... If you spend 3million (naira) to produce a movie, little can you (as the owner) make over 4m because of PIRACY. That is why in nigeria,
1.) Popular actors and actresses you see on the screen are into drug so as to balance their outside the screen to the life in the screen.
2.) We produce many many many movies (which you cant expect to b all good) so as to make enough.
e.t.c.

Hi @all,
I guess i have some stuffs to chip in... i also write movie scripts and most of my stuffs are "overated", what i know so far is that, movie producers, actors, etc are in different cliques, they actually dont collect stuffs from outside (major reason we are not developing)- the best way to sort for sponsors is to source abroad...
remember blood and oil (BBC) et al? that tells us that the world has an eye on Nigeria... they cant easily come here to do their researches coz of our security palava but they are more than willing to develop a very (extremely) good stories... If its helpful and/or you want some lil advice on my progress, we can talk.
I have just currently given two of my stuffs out in Nigeria (both told me to just chill until everything work out before i can expect anything- i.e. my stuffs are just out the for free)
My lil advice is not to start thinking about money (at all)....
What i work on now is TV game shows...

Hey guys, i have this "over" burning passion for Mechatronics (kinda new mechanical + elctronics). I have my admission in Mechatronics ( in Germany) and in Germany learning German- their is this opportunity for this three degree program (Mechatronics, Management, foreign studies) from schools in France, Germany and Switzerland for just 3.5 yrs in (French, German and English)- sounds interesting right?
i can only boast of a lil French for now... and to be admitted to the school, i have to be working with one of the partner companies... does it worth me spending a year to pursue those two languages while i difer my mechatronics to come back for it?
I'm actually seeing the adventure in it but.... i need advice... also from people speaking more than one language

hmm... i've not actually thought about it much but i think we can work together. we can make in form of an online club, we submit ideas per month and vote for the best one to work. its not gonna be dat simple sha... we will start by getting people here on nairaland who can fit into different unit (programmer, logistics, managements e.t.c). reasonable...huh

i read, my grandpa added... initially before independence- before green, white and green... Nigerian flag was symbolized with an Elephant and a Horse... During those good old days (before my father's birth smiley ), Nigerian airways had an Elephant as its symbol, so i think that was when... "Giant of Africa" was coined.
I personally think this whole 'our leader' thingy is a pain in the ass, we can create progressive clubs (not political parties o) that can consist of members in and out of Nigeria... We can create a country of dream by starting from our immediate environment, we dont have to ever rely on our leaders again coz it (change) will never happen like this (with mouth)... 90% of Nigeria's problems stem from our societal values and attitudes.

Leadership..?? is that not we've been insinuating since it got spoilt to this level? we know we have a problem, not only with leadership but also with people(every one of us)... n no one is not seeming to find any solution- none that i know of
CultureRe: African Culture, Nigeria -my View by VOfficialR(op): 10:30pm On May 12, 2012
yeah, mathematically.... Nigeria is poor!! when the land is rich but the people are poor- what can we say to that? i am not seeing us better or worse than any of those countries listed above. do u remember when we were "Giants of Africa"? before turning into "great people great nation". nothing is getting better in Nigeria, the ONLY thing i know that recently got cheaper in Nigeria is the price for obtaining Plate numbers and drivers licence-- what pisses me off is even our so called "yahoo guys" i was initially a fan (in writing) as i trimmed it to the "revenge of slave trade" but it has now lacked it savour... we are not improving (not politicians o) and we don't even want to... The same way our fore fathers are making charcoal is the same way the next generation will or worst... we are not unique at all, but is it coz of our skin colour?

Talking about the African culture and boasting of it now is nothing close to a discussion of now -it's that of years around 80s, when the westerners have not infected too much of us.
My view about the african culture now is that of a weak culture, a culture ashamed of itself. We have traded our beautiful heritage for the used westerners'. The westerners have robbed us off our beautiful culture with no hope of accepting us into their world. Especially in Nigeria, we are discarded by the world and can't still find solitude in our domain i.e. We are running away from our culture and are not accepted by theirs, we are somewhere in the middle.
African culture is nothing now but a mirage of the past, a culture with lost heritage...
