ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke Published By: PM NEWS Editor 26th August, 2022 Authorities of Kaduna State University(KASU) and Ekiti State University(EKSU) have condemned the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, for referring to them as quacks. The ASUU President was said to have made the remark on Friday during an interview on national television. EKSU, like KASU, which has broken off from the six-month old strike, demanded a retraction and an apology. Public Relations Officer of KASU, Adamu Bargo, said Osodeke’s statement was not aimed at forging a better educational system in Nigeria, but for “personal and irresponsible aggrandisement”. According to Bargo, KASU resumed academic activities in good conscience and for the betterment of the students. He stated that the resumption should not be a reason for the university to be insulted and stereotyped by the ASUU President. AKSU statement: One may wonder whether the Professor of Soil Science really understands what the word quack represents. Quack means a person who dishonestly claims to have knowledge and skill in some field with little or no foundation, as better exemplified by professionals. I like to mention here that the highest stage of irresponsibility is insulting fellow colleagues in academia. I thought leadership in academia is about mutual respect and mentoring while also living by good example which the ASUU National finds too tasking. The ASUU President was a bigot for neither mentioning Ambrose Alli University, where he came from which has pulled out from the strike long before KASU Management decided to resume academic activities in spite of the strike nor did he refer to his own University as a quack. After all, ASUU claimed to be on strike for: * Rejecting IPPIS for UTAS (KASU has nothing to do with how other employees are paid in a country where education is on the concurrent list) * Renegotiate the 2009 agreement (KASU Governing Council informed lecturers they shouldn’t worry that after negotiation between FG & ASUU led by its loquacious President, it’ll look into how to implement the agreement without encumbrances) * Release funds to revitalize the infrastructure of the Universities (release of funds is being determined by the economy and income of the government and not by any strike action) *: Pay outstanding EAA to date (Kaduna State has paid far more to its lecturers the EEA than any FG University did to its own Universities) * Release of the White Paper on Visitation Panels (This has nothing to do with State universities & KASU should not stunt its progress in a protracted strike that is becoming unreasonably insensitive) Lest I forget, when ASUU in KASU joined the strike in 2019 and govt paid the 40% salary for work done for the month, ASUU National did virtually nothing positive beyond ranting so the outstanding 60% has not been paid to date. If someone thinks the National President of ASUU can go on strike because of this, is only joking!!! Cruelty to students, poor info management, and partisanship hurting ASUU Let me use this medium to call on Academic staff on strike in KASU to reason and be more concerned with their University and people than the irritating attitude of their irrational leader who labels them as Quacks. For the benefit of hindsight, KASU is a new generation University and the second most-sought State-Owned University as well as the fastest growing in Nigeria, which was established 18 years ago with eminent scholars like Prof. Idris A. Abdulkadir, OFR, and Prof. Abubakar A. Rasheed, MFR as the pioneer Council members. These scholars-administrators made sure that the appointments of qualified Lecturers were never compromised. The foundation and ethical determination to sustain the same has remained the basic principle of engaging academic & non-academic staff. By the foregoing, the general public may wish to note as follows: KASU is recognised by NUC as a standard University. KASU has some of the best brains that are competing favourably with their counterparts around the globe. The world’s No 4 best polymer chemist is in KASU. Lecturers in KASU have attracted grants both locally and internationally and are highly rated. KASU graduates are rated among the best in the world and enjoy scholarships from different parts of the country and the globe. KASU has members in ASUU, and it is unfortunate if the ASUU President is saying that they are quacks, while enjoying monthly check-off dues from their salaries. Does this not give a good reason for every reasonable academic staff in the University to pull out from the Union for this labelling and stereotyping? In its reaction, EKSU blasted Osodeke for his denigrating comments on the status of state universities. The head of the Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs of EKSU, Bode Olofinmuagun said the comments from the ASUU president were reckless and unacceptable, calling on him to as a matter of urgency apologise to the university. According to him, “the management of EKSU views this denigrating remark about some universities, coming from the National President of ASUU as unfortunate, reckless and unwarranted. “Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti is currently the 14th best university in Nigeria out of about 200 universities (Federal, State & Private) and the 2nd best State University according to the recent Webometric ranking of universities. “Apart from the above, the university (EKSU) has nearly all its academic programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and relevant professional regulatory bodies. The university is proud to have many top-rated globally recognised academics, and its alumni are making waves both nationally and internationally. By the grace of God, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, the Governor-elect of Ekiti State is an alumnus and a former lecturer at the University. “Even in ASUU, a number of staff of our university had served and still serving in various capacities at zonal and national levels including but not limited to Professor Afolabi Popoola, Dr Sikiru Eniola, Profs. Eddy Olanipekun, Ayan Adeleke and Olu-Olu Olufayo.” The statement added that “categorising EKSU as among the quack and irrelevant universities is a testimony to the fact that the ASUU President is probably uninformed and/or is bereft of ideas. This arrant nonsense coming from Comrade Osodeke is totally unacceptable and condemnable. “The Management calls on Professor Osodeke to toe the path of honour by retracting the provocative remark and tender an unreserved apology without further delay.” Source: https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2022/08/26/ASUU-strike-crumbling-kasu-eksu-blast-osodeke/#

Omo ASUU mean ooo, FG don't care at all useless government. As for ASUU make them get out they are selfish abeg, next year here Buhari go commot another person go enter they go still strike again. Who they day fool make they make them the 6 months salary they were on strike cause their job is not only to teach but research and community service, who send them they should have shut everything down so FG would know they are serious or better still cancel community service or research then teach the poor student. Student should sacrifice but themselves don't want to sacrifice too. Clowns they are just punishing the young and upcoming lecturers. |

The federal government on Thursday insisted that it will not concede to the demand by the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities to be paid the backlog of salaries withheld during the ongoing strike. It described the no-work-no-pay policy as the only hindrance in the FG-ASUU negotiations. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, stated this at the 47th session of the State House Ministerial Media Briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. “All contentious issues between the government and ASUU had been settled except the quest for members’ salaries for the period of strike to be paid, a demand that Buhari has flatly rejected,” Adamu explained. He argued that ASUU went on strike despite the Buhari regime and agencies such as TETFUND and UBEC directly investing trillions of naira in education. Adamu also disclosed that five of the six striking university-based unions will likely return to work within the next one week, whereas ASUU’s remains uncertain. According to him, the FG rejected ASUU’s demand to be paid the backlog of emoluments for the past five months because it believes that there should be penalties for their actions. He, however, noted that consultations were still ongoing among ASUU members to determine when to call off the strike. Mhen yesterday night for me it was unusable, can't even load a webpage |
Who else has noticed? MTN network (Data) is very down lately. |
Cause they are frauds, you can't tell me IPPIS can't be modified it's a software so it can be worked upon and moreover that 2 years statement ASUU president made just made me hate the union for crying out loud the Labour started a protest to speed things up and there is ASUU president saying two years is not much, I was this guys are not serious. Mind you those engineering the strikes are not feeling anything I just pity for those junior lecturers those are the ones their kids are in Public institution as for the senior lecturers and professors their children are in private universities or are abroad so they are not affected that's why they can hold up the strike for long. |
Vilgax:They modified not created. |
The Presidency says there was no time President Muhammadu Buhari gave an ultimatum to the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, to resolve the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and others in the nation’s public universities. Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, made the clarification in a statement on Wednesday while giving an insight into discussions at the meeting held the previous day. He said Adamu requested that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, hands off the negotiation to allow him conclude what he had started with the striking lecturers. “The outcome of the meeting held by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday with relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to end the agitations by university unions ought to be beyond spin-doctoring and conjectures,” said the President’s spokesman. “It is a pity that almost all media houses allowed themselves to be deceived by interested sources that are not the authorised spokesmen of government. Neither during nor after the meeting was any ultimatum given to the Minister of Education. “During the meeting, the Minister of Education requested that the Minister of Labour hands off the negotiation to allow him lead and conclude what he had earlier on started with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).” Channels Television had reported a meeting between the President and relevant government Ministries, Agencies, and Departments (MDAs) where he received briefings on the current face-off with the university unions, among other issues. While this platform reported that President Buhari directed the education minister to proffer a solution to the challenge and report back to him in two weeks, some online news outfits said Adamu was given an ultimatum to resolve the dispute. Shehu, in the statement, added that the education minister promised that he could get an agreement within the shortest possible time, probably two to three weeks. The Presidency, according to him, is confident that agreements can be reached in an even shorter period if all parties do not remain obstinate. “In carrying out this assignment, the Minister will carry along all relevant ministries and agencies with statutory functions and duties relating to the issues involved,” the presidential spokesman said. “On the part of the administration, all doors remain open for dialogue and the resolution of the issues.”

Nice write up you have a point to a point, this is what I was saying universities in Nigeria are not serving their purpose unlike the foreign counter parts. Though government needs to do more, also the lecturers needs to do more too. |
Exumal:Wow I haven't heard of the product but I will take a look. Thanks |
sweetonugbu:Na so we see am oo I just day wonder where the economy improve go definitely not forward. |

Good day Nairalanders, Please for those of us into power banks, I want to get a power bank but am having difficulty choosing between 2 particular power banks. The Oraimo 27000mah and New age Virgin star 15000mah, I want to get the Oraimo but I was thinking getting two of the New age Virgin star would be a more better bargain the Oraimo is 14k+ while 2 of the New age will be 13k+ and combining both of the New age I will be having 30000mah. I am not well endowed with power banks but please a good advice will be welcome thank you. |
grogolin:I swear, like the many meetings are so uncalled for, now FG are delaying response. |
My people I swear it's heart breaking the way this ASUU strike is been handled by FG. Mhenn even though most of us are learning skills or doing side hustling that doesn't mean we should forget about our Tertiary education. |
The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government has assured that the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will soon be over. Goodluck Opiah, the Minister of State for Education, assured that Buhari’s administration is committed to ending the ASUU strike. Opiah gave the assurance in Owerri, Imo State, while addressing journalists over the weekend. “I can assure you that the government is very concerned about the situation. Even as I speak to you now a lot of thinking, a lot of discussions and meetings are going on with a view to resolving the matter as quickly as possible. “I am hopeful that the disagreement between the government and ASUU will be resolved soon so that our children can go back to school”. ASUU has been on strike since February 2022 over face-off with the Federal Government due to mode of payment for university lecturers. How much they pay am to come talk all these. |
Sheyilola:Am in my 300L I really need to improve my grades, right now am doing side hustling but once they call it off it's back to focus mode. |
I said it before this ASUU you see are very dangerous now their main focus is UTAS all those revitalization stuffs was for show, to make the masses feel they are fighting for students meanwhile it's for their own gain. FG too are not helping matters, they have their own fair share of the blame more than double self , ASUU themselves too have their own problem. This present Government failed badly in terms of education, how can you take months to discuss with lecturers the process alone is a failure. Seriously, in as much I hate FG I still feel UTAS is a bad idea cause giving ASUU UTAS sends negative message across other unions. If IPPIS can be modified and updated it's better that way or better FG develop a new process but accepting different processes is a big problem, imagine paying ASUU, NASU, SSANU, ASUP etc all in different platforms it will be very hard to checkmate fraudulent activities.
