Josnac:
Good day Nairalanders.

To start, something happened some days ago, but before I go into it, let me say something most of us might have heard, like me.

Well, growing up in a typical Nigerian city (Aba) back in the days..I was privileged to listen to discussions or conversations about how someone based abroad (Ala-bekee) used to send in money for a building project in the village/city as the case may be; then after some years or over the duration of some months, would return to meet a practically empty plot of land. in some cases, the so-called land would even be nonexistent.

The type of wahala issues like this cause eh, to those who can bear it, they can simply let go since the culprits in most cases are always blood relatives/siblings/uncle's/in-laws etc.

In my line of work I've equally bumped into a couple of such projects..the most recent one being the reason for this thread.

So, some days ago, I was contacted to evaluate a building project; a supposed one storey building comprising of 4x3-bedroom flats. However, only the front flat had been done up to "their" supposed deck beam level.
The owner of this project is based in Philadelphia, U.S.A and is a woman well over the late 60's.
The project supervisor/executioner is an in-law (I think he married one of the woman's daughters based on the information I received)..

Now, the instruction was simple: "Build this house while I send in the funds, at completion you and your family would take one flat and stay as caretakers of the property".

In all honesty, what I saw at the site left me bewildered and I was just wondering the "version" of wickedness at work in the so-called in-law.. seriously!!

By the building regulation standards, a standard building height ought to be at least 3metres. To achieve this during construction (block work stage), we do what I called "4-5-1-3" for bungalow buildings and "4-5-1-2" for lower levels of multi-storey buildings above the D.P.C.
Breakdown:
Above the DPC.
4: the first 4-courses of block work leading up to the window sill.
5: the next 5courses of block works above the window sill leading up to the lintel.
1: the lintel, always having a depth of 225mm (9inches) which is the depth of all block sizes.
3: the final 3-course of block work above the lintel use to level up in readiness for roof work. In multi-storey buildings, this last 3-courses is replaced by 2-courses with the final block removed and a deck beam introduced in its stead.

For the structure under review, what I met was more like a "3-4-1-3" (as shown in the picture) kind of formation following the same format as explained above. Now me sef wey dey think say I short, I still dey bend to enter one of the rooms because the door opening will always hit my forehead, yes, that's how bad it was!
And this is supposed to be a storey building!!

Next, I equally noticed that the plinth beams (mostly referred to as "chaining" at the DPC level), were without stirrups; yes, more like the 3-12mm used were just laid round the areas they thought necessary with over-site concrete (German floor) laid directly on them. Wow! we too Sabi for this country!!!

Well, luckily for this woman in question, she happened to have returned during one of the ceremonies the Igbere people of Abia State is known for, The Igbotonma ceremony, as she was a participant in the 2017 edition, thereafter she was taken to see her project; rooms were too small, kitchen was too small, etc..the house just looked so unplanned. She was heartbroken thus ordered the job to be stopped.

Please our brothers/sisters in the obodo oyibo (abroad) try as much as possible to engage professionals to do these things for you and while at it, endeavour to come in at least once to see the project by yourself and note any peculiar landmarks or something you can use to identify your site from a photograph, before them go begin send photos of Mr Okonkwo's site go give Mr Clinton. Insist on photo updates every 2-days, if not daily or at worst every 3-days..these stories are painful and they don't just touch the heart, the touch the spinal cord too.

Well, for this particular project, discussions are ongoing and a redesign is on the way..by God's grace a follow up thread will be available to show the updates and progress made when the job starts.

Have you experienced anything like this before??
Talk to us so that others can learn.

Best wishes,
Josnac.

Shoodboi:
I am so pissed off right now.

I wasn’t angry when I broke the card. I just wanted to make sure that:

i. I will not be able to use the card or account anymore.

ii. I will be forced to open a new regular bank account.

The Story (in brief)

Good day Nairalanders! Please i"m sorry to bring this here, please bear with me. I am a graduate of Education/Guidance & Counselling ( Bsc/B.Ed) . I suffered a failed POS transaction yesterday.

I sent Wema ALAT a mail and they are yet to reply as of now (almost 24 hours later).

I called them this morning and listened to a recorded message about how my call may be delayed because of COVID-19. I quickly cut the call. Their customer wasn’t effective before the virus came along, so I wonder what to expect now.

I later visited their bank and the customer care rep told me the transaction will be reversed within 14 days, if they were sure that I was really unable to withdraw the money.

14 days? Why is this so?

The money doesn’t even belong to me and the owner is very angry with me right now. Someone sent it to her and she wanted to use someone else's account to receive it, but I convinced her to use me—and then this happened.

Worse, she needs it for feeding and I don't have any money to give her. (She wasn’t paying me for the service in case you’re wondering.)

I suffered the same thing in the hands of GTB. (Their regular customer service email complaints@gtbank.com isn't even working anymore.)

In fact, I opened a WEMA Alat account because of GTB’s failures. I thought Alat will be better since they marketed themselves as a “Digital Bank”, but it appears that I was wrong. They are “digital” in name only.

This should be the third or fourth time WEMA Alat is doing this sort of nonsense to me. And that is without counting the failed mobile and POS transfers.

I am actually not concerned about GTB’s and Wema’s failures. I just hate their terrible customer service.

Failed transactions are one thing. I actually consider them normal. However, poor customer service and unwillingness to quickly solve failed online transactions aren’t. And this is unfortunately common with most banks and businesses in this country.

Now, I’ve have made the decision to stop going cashless. I will start moving around with cash henceforth. I’m sick and tired of all these failed POS transactions and sluggish customer service reps.

I know I will still do some online transactions but that will be occasionally (online shopping, international payments, etc.)

That said, I want you all to answer these two questions:

1. Which bank is reliable for online transactions?

2. Which bank has the most effective customer care service in this country?

I’m thinking of opening a Union bank account since I can see they have revamped their business, but I don't want to jump into conclusions as I did with Alat.

Could you all help me out?

P.S. Please UBA and Skye (if this one still exists) are out of the equation. I used them in the past and can confidently say they are terrible. They steal money.

I don’t want Access bank too. I’ve never read anything good about them. They and fraud are relatives. I don’t want Diamond bank either since they are the new owners of Access bank.

So, any suggestions?

Religion / Re: Breaking Every Connection With Your Sex Partners by Volunteer29(m): 11:07am On May 24, 2020
Interesting15:

God, the Supreme Creator of everything, never made a mistake creating you with your sexual urges. However, you must know that God has given you those urges for honourable purposes, and He expects that you will be human enough to put on the garment of self control, and never allow your sexual urges drive you into sinful and illicit sexual activities.

Today, different people are giving different opinions on issues pertaining sex and sexuality. However, wisdom demands that you don't build a pivotal aspect of your life around the fallible words of imperfect humans like yourself, but that you seek tested and trusted eternal and divine principles and truths.

Thus, as regards how you should approach issues pertaining sex and sexuality, you should prioritise and adhere only to what God is saying. And the Word of God is that the only sex partner you should have must be your married spouse (who must be a member of the opposite gender), only in the safe circle of the marriage institution.

WE ARE DESIGNED TO FLORUISH AND LIVE WITH THE WORD OF GOD

It is abnormal living outside the Word of God. Just like a fish is divinely designed to flourish inside the water, humanity can only find true pleasantness by embracing the Word of God and living in accordance to God's Will.

The Bible says, "By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God" (Hebrews 11:3). Meaning, what held the world together is the Word of God, and only through God's Word will our world make perfect sense. Since the Word of God is the Ingredient used in making this world, then God's Word is the key to the world's true fulfilment. God's Word is the formula for the world's well-being, as the Word of God is the foundation of the world.

No wonder our world is in its current state of unpleasant jeopardy - as individuals and institutions and nations are rebellious towards God's Word.

Jesus Christ is the Word of God Who has been with the Father from Eternity (John 1:1). Then scriptures says, "In Him (Jesus) was life, and the life was the light of men" (John 1:4).

Our world is a dark room filled with all manner of vices and harmful stuff. But when you embrace Jesus into your life as Lord and Savior, He resides in you and gives you Light. So you start living with clarity, knowing to do what is right, and ignoring harmful ventures of sin and the devil - which then empower you to have true dominion over the devil, sin and hell

So, you see, you must make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior, and start living in accordance to the Will and dictates of God. This is what you are destined to do! This is what empowers you not to be a slave to sex or your urges!

Call on the Name of Jesus Christ now! Sincerely ask Him to come into your life.

BREAK THE CONNECTION WITH YOUR SEX PARTNERS

Since having sex with anyone that's not your legally married spouse is contrary to God's Word and Will, then you must break the relationship you have with your sex partner(s) - irrespective of who they are and what you benefit from them. It might be a tough decision, but please, do it immediately! And you will be eventually glad you did!

In conclusion, perhaps you've broken the relationship with your illicit sex partner, but you are still struggling with the urge to go back to them (or you still have fantasies or see yourself having sex with them in your dreams), you have to break the soul ties with prayers and the Word of God! Pray and fast fervently, and get occupied with spiritual and productive activities!

God bless you in Jesus Name!
God bless you for making us embrace Jesus today.

when your boss eventually finds out, she would definitely not be happy with you. And if the unexpected happens to your firm, you might be forced to live with guilt all ur life. Romance / Re: I Never Wanted To Have Sex With Her On The First Visit by Volunteer29(m): 5:47pm On May 18, 2020
goodman41:
I met her when she came for her IT at my place of work. One day I collected her number but I didn't call her till she finished her IT and went back to school.

One day I called to inform her that I will like us to go into a relationship which she accepted. I told her that l'm not looking for a girlfriend but a wife. I asked her if she has a boyfriend but she said yes but she will never marry the guy because there are some things she will consider in terms of marriage.

I called her to visit me but she was doing promise and fail. I told her that I'm not inviting her for sex that sex is nothing for me. She said okay, that I should send transport money, I tried using my phone to transfer 2k for her but it was not going, so I told her that it was not going she said I should go and use ATM but I told her that I don't have that time that she should borrow from her roommate and come or she should forget about coming until when I will be able to use my phone to do the transfer. So that evening she called that she will come the next day being Sunday that she borrowed money from her roommate.

When she came on Sunday I put movie for her and kept my self busy with my laptop, she started feeling sleepy which I told her to go and sleep on the bed which she went, after I was through with my laptop I asked her if I can join her she said yes, I now joined her in the bed before we knew it we started kissing and romancing each other and we had sex.

After the sex she said that but you told me you don't like sex I told her I like sex but I don't take it serious. She said okay I understand. I now took her out spent like 3k, the following morning I gave her 4k for her transport and she was happy.

After one week she called that I should send her airtime I told her that am not sending she said okay without being angry, when she visited for the second time she asked why did I refuse to send her card I told her that I don't like sending card to people she said okay. So am seeing her as people, i told her don't worry any time I feel like I will send to her, but she said if i send it that she will send it back to me.

I asked her about her boyfriend she said that she has ended the friendship but my mind is telling she is lying, she cleaned my house and cooked for me before going back to school that she doesn't want me to be eating outside, she asked me to give her money to do hair which I gave her 3k for both her transport and the hair, she said the money is small but she Will add her own so she collected it without any issue.

Am not the type that use to call every day but she asked me to be calling her every day to make our relationship grow stronger, she was telling me the other day that she will visit me one day without telling me to see if I have another girl.

Please is this girl really serious with this relationship or she just wants to use me?
Are ,mu eyes deceiving?! You collected her contact first, never asked her out until she returned to school. Then she accepted and you invited her with the indirect condition that you were not going to send her tp, until u see her. She knew ur plans and so for that, she hesitated. After much persuasion, promises and conviction that u were going to stay off her panties; She finally showed up and at bed time, u were asking her if u could join her in your own bed. Were u expecting her to decline, so u could force urself on her at midnight or kick her out??
Now, u come here to ask us whether she's serious with the relationship or just wants to use you. WELDONE sir! Continue using her, she's your VACCINE for COVID19
Education / Re: What You Studied VS What You Wanted To Study by Volunteer29(m): 5:02pm On May 17, 2020
Joclebs:
Most Nigerians change their preferred choice of study at the death after seeking admission for years.

Let's hear yours…
Wanted to study BANKING and FINANCE, ended up with EDUCATION/GUIDANCE & COUNSELING

I kicked off my higher educational pursuit in 2008, then i was in ss3 but took JAMB with an awaiting result. The result (JAMB) was released and i didn't make it to the POST JAMB. I seek courage from friends that were already in school then. I wrote another JAMB in 2009, scored very high even in the Post JAMB; yet was denied Admission, probably cos i wasn't an indigene. This time, my parents gave up on my dreams to further my education, to make matters worse, my dad suggested i learnt a skill, i couldn't help but to disobey my dad for the first time, which i'm not regretting today.
Months passed and i was still home, wallowing in depression and frustration. My peers were already living a new life styles in a different environment, learning new things, getting exposed to different cultures and norms. Each time i called them, they feed me with gists on their new environment and this would make me feel irresponsible and useless. So i decided to take a year break, but Thank God i believed in my dreams.
It was time (2011) for Jamb again, i purchased the form as usual (customer). I took the exam again and was denied admission. Then i felt my parents were actually right. I cried to God "what could be the problem?" My mates were being accepted, yet rejection was my case. All the while i was taking these Exams, i had a small paying job, so i was saving, thereby, independent to an extent. That was the only way i could allow my parents have me in my academic pursuit.
Fortunately, in 2012, i wrote and succeded. Finally! I was at work when a friend called that he saw my name on the admission board. I took permission from work to make confirmation on the good news. Sadly, i got but discovered i had been given a course to study. Meanwhile, i never told my parents that i kept taking Jamb after my second trial. even when i travelled down to the school for acceptance, no one knew. I called my family to break the good but sad news to them.
I knew nothing about the course (Education/Guidance and Counseling) i was going to accept. I had wanted to study Banking and finance for many years, but i was presented with a strange course. I made several researches on the discipline, asked people about it and they all adviced and encouraged me to take it. This time, i ran to God again "if this was your will for me, perfect it."
I had my matriculation, studied the course like it was what i had wanted. Although, my first year was not easy, as i was still trying to adapt to the environment, discipline and otherwise. I was elected as the course rep, owing to my positive relationship (humility) with colleagues. I took my academics seriously, graduated in 2016 with a 3.9 GPA. Did NYSC in 2019, alongside 2 professional courses (HSE & HRM).
My advice to admission seekers "Do not relent, no matter what and how long it takes."

I'm currently job hunting, please help a brother. Even if it's a volunteering Job, i'm more than willing. 07085404882
