Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe his first public appearance since the military seized control of the country, attending a graduation ceremony at Harare's Open University on Friday morning. In an apparent display of defiance, the 93-year-old arrived at the ceremony on Friday morning dressed in a blue academic gown and tasselled hat. The event appears to allow him to project the image of leadership, even as calls for his departure after 37 years in power grow stronger. It came during an extraordinary series of negotiations with regional leaders. Zimbabwe's military said it was making "significant progress" in the talks while it pursues and arrests some allies of the leader and his wife. A senior source in Zanu-PF told Reuters news agency the party was due to meet on Friday to draft a motion to fire Mr Mugabe on Sunday. If Mr Mugabe still refuses to stand down, the party plans to impeach him on Tuesday, according to the source. Talks with Mr Mugabe continued, the military said in a statement reported by the state-run Herald newspaper and Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation. Zimbabwe's military is "currently engaging with the Commander-in-Chief President Robert Mugabe on the way forward and will advise the nation of the outcome as soon as possible," the statement said. "Significant progress has been made in their operation to weed out criminals around President Mugabe," it said, adding that the military had already arrested some although others remained at large. Those sought had been "committing crimes that were causing social and economic suffering in Zimbabwe." The military is seeking Cabinet ministers and other top officials who had been associates of first lady Grace Mugabe, part of a clique dubbed the G40 because many were in their 40s and 50s. They are of a different generation from the one that fought for independence from white minority rule. Army troops and armored vehicles continued to patrol the capital, Harare, as Zimbabweans went about their daily business. The military has had Mugabe under house arrest since late Tuesday, yet it is taking pains to show respect for the 93-year-old leader, the world's oldest head of state, by referring to him as the president and the commander-in-chief. The ongoing negotiations appear to be trying to get Mugabe to agree to hand over to a new government. But difficulties could include the timing. The ruling party is set to meet next month, and Mugabe's term ends next year. An election date has not been set. In a striking image of the fluidity of the political situation, the Zimbabwe Herald on Thursday published photos of Mugabe jovially shaking hands with army commander Constantino Chiwenga, the general who ordered the president's arrest. Others pictured in the first round of talks at State House, the president's official residence, include Defense Minister Sydney Sekeramayi, Intelligence Minister Kembo Mohadi, South African Cabinet ministers who are acting as mediators and a local Catholic priest, Fidelis Mukonori, whom Mugabe has used as a mediator before. Grace Mugabe was not pictured. Her rapid political rise had alarmed many who feared she could succeed her husband after he fired his longtime deputy, Emmerson Mnangagwa, last week. That firing set off the military's moves, and Mnangagwa is expected to lead any new government. The military wants the process of establishing the new government to appear to be constitutional in order to maintain a veneer of legality and the approval of the 16-nation regional bloc, the Southern African Development Community, and the African Union. As a landlocked country, regional sanctions by the bodies could be harmful to Zimbabwe's already ailing economy. A committee of SADC on Thursday has recommended an emergency summit of heads of state to discuss the Zimbabwe situation. It was not clear when that would take place. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/dam/news/2017/11/17/TELEMMGLPICT000146955394_trans_NvBQzQNjv4BqgmFsEjQK2M33nnfQ31Q2_6Mr0t7-tWp3mWf_CMz8V_E.jpeg?imwidth=1240 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/11/17/zimbabwes-ruling-party-drafting-motion-fire-robert-mugabe-sunday/

The new anti-grazing law in Benue State is taking its toll on herdsmen as a 56-year old herdsman, Mohammed Abdulkadire has decided to take his life by jumping into River Benue. The incident was said to have occurred in Logo Local Government Area of the state within the week. The deceased, according to the report decided to commit suicide when he discovered that 200 of his 500 cows died of hunger and lack of water. Recalled that prohibition of open grazing of livestock law took effect in the state on November, 1st, 2017. Over 3,000 herdsmen are said to have relocated out of the state since the take off of the law, while those who still remain find it difficult to get their cattle to graze openly. Disclosing this to our correspondent at the weekend, National Coordinator of Miyietti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Benue State Chapter, Alhaji Garus Gololo said herdsmen in the state had lost about 600 cows since the law took effect. The deceased was said to have died leaving behind 22 children. While narrating how the man died, Gololo said that the deceased having discovered the painful death of his cows where they were camped was looking for ways to move to Nasarawa State. Gololo added that the movement to Nasarawa was stalled as result of over population of herdsmen that had relocated out of Benue “this made the man to cry uncontrollably and later jumped into the river in Logo.” According to Gololo, ‘this is what we are talking about, the man has killed himself simply because no place for him to graze his cows in Logo and he was to relocate to Awe LOcal Government Area of Nasarawa State but information got to us that the area is occupied and no herdsman or herdsmen should cross over to the area again.’ ‘’We are calling on the FG to intervene to quickly make alternative provision for herdsmen in Benue State before they would lose everything they have.” “Our means of livelihood are gradually going down the drain. This is not what we bargain for before we voted APC into power in 2015. “Fulani herdsmen in Benue State have 21,000 voters card and 15,000 Fulanis overwhelmingly voted for APC but today, we are being denied of our constitutional right, rendering us useless’’, Gololo lamented. However, when contacted, the state Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, ASP Moses Yamu said that the case has not been reported to police authority as the time of filing this report. https://www.google.com.ng/amp/www.tribuneonlineng.com/anti-grazing-law-56-yr-old-herdsman-commits-suicide-losing-200-cows-benue/%3famp_markup=1 |
One killed as Nasarawa farmers, Fulani herdsmen clash again The police in Nasarawa State have confirmed the death of a 28-year-old man, Hassan Papalolo, after a fresh clash between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in the Awe Local Government Area of the state. Three others reportedly sustained varying degrees of injury in the skirmish between the two groups. The Police Public Relations Officer in Nasarawa, DSP Idrisu Kennedy, explained that the deceased was among of a group of youths who protested against the destruction of a farm by herdsmen. According to him, Papalolo was stabbed and subsequently died when he and other youths invaded an assembly of Fulani herdsmen in protest over the attack on a farmer, Yunusa Makeri, by suspected herdsmen. The police spokesman said, “The deceased was killed in Awe market during a skirmish between some youths and Fulani herdsmen immediately after the injured farmer, Yunusa Makeri, and two herders were brought to the general hospital with machete wounds.” Kennedy stated that the command had already deployed more personnel in the crisis areas to maintain law and order. Our correspondent gathered that the situation degenerated when the Awe youths insisted that only the farmer should be treated in the hospital while preventing medical personnel from attending to the two injured herdsmen. It was learnt that the Emir of Awe, Alhaji Abubakar Umar, had to appeal to the youths before the injured Fulani herdsmen were allowed to get medical attention. But the state chairman of the Miyatti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammed Hussaini, said the vigilance group in Awe had arrested the herdsman who destroyed the farm which led to the skirmish. He blamed the Awe youths for over-reacting, noting that the matter would not have degenerated if they had exercised restraint. Meanwhile, the Fulani socio-cultural group, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani, has called for the intervention of the Federal Government to address the exodus of Fulani herdsmen from Benue State following the anti-open grazing law in the state. The National President of the association, Alhaji Abdullahi Bodejo, described the law, which became effective on November 1, 2017, as an aberration against the provisions of the constitution which guaranteed the rights of every Nigerian to live in any place or states of their choice. He said, “We have the Benue State Government displacing innocent Fulanis and other pastoralists and Taraba State wanted to follow suit. What have Fulanis done to warrant this persecution? “Does it mean that the Federal Government and President Muhammadu Buhari are not aware of this development or are they afraid of living up to their constitutional responsibilities?” Bodejo called on the Federal Government to establish the National Grazing Reserve Commission as part of measures to resolve the crisis. http://punchng.com/one-killed-as-nasarawa-farmers-fulani-herdsmen-clash-again/ Herdsmen/farmers clash: Ayade beefs up security in Cross River Owing to the bloody clash between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in Ugaga community in Yala Local Government Area which claimed one life and left several others injured, Cross River State governor, Senator Ben Ayade, has directed immediate deployment of security operatives to the area to forestall further hostilities. Ayade who disclosed this to newsmen shortly after an emergency state Security Council meeting in Government House, Calabar stated that the meeting was one of his proactive steps in stemming the security crisis in the area from escalating and to protect lives and property of the citizenry. In his words, “We have already deployed the military, police and other security agencies to ensure that the situation is brought under control and as we speak, the area is calm and peaceful.” The clash between the herdsmen and farmers came against the backdrop of the full implementation of the anti-open grazing bill recently passed into law by the Benue State government. According to Governor Ayade, “During our meeting, we did an analytical appraisal of the situation and we have come out with very strong active points that must be implemented urgently. “One of such measures is to immediately institute a mediation team comprising the security operatives, the fulani community, and my Special Adviser on non-indigene affairs as well as the leader of Hausa/ Fulani community in the state.” The governor who open admitted that the Anti-grazing law of Benue State had put a lot of pressure on Cross River, particularly along border communities and towns, lamented that the state bores the brunt of that law, adding that“ If the Federal Government does not come to lend its support to the state, what will happen is that they are leaving the farmers and the herdsmen to take on themselves.” Ayade noted that as a result of the full implementation of the anti-open grazing law by the Benue State government, “there has been a mass exodus of Fulani herdsmen to Cross River. This has become more exacerbated by the changes in climatic condition as the grasses up north is getting dryer and the impact is what resulted in the incident of skirmish between the herdsmen and Ugaga community, leading to loss of life. |

GoroTango:Rights to freedom of movement Abi? Can I take five pigs and stroll into Kano central mosque? |
Barely 24 hours after Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom declared war on open grazing in the state, Fulani herdsmen have started leaving the state. The zonal leader of the Fulani socio cultural group, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore in charge of North central states, Alhaji Gidado Idris Bebeji told newsmen on Wednesday that the new law had caused an unprecedented exodus of people, some of whose fathers were born in the state. He, however, expressed worries that their human rights to free movement was being violated as a result of the restriction placed on their animals by the law. “The state government has been speaking English with nobody caring to properly inform the pastoralists. They (herders) may be leaving the state as being reported because they would not want to be lawless especially against a law they do not understand very well,” he said. Also speaking, the Benue State Coordinator of Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Garus Gololo, said his members had started leaving the state following the commencement of the anti-grazing law. http://dailypost.ng/2017/11/02/anti-grazing-law-fulani-herdsmen-flee-benue/ lalasticlala, ishilove |

Aonkuuse:maybe be if her husband had done what he ought to have done earlier on, the floods wouldn't have affected her and she won't be relying on help from people........By the way, a woman at this age should be the responsibility of any reasonable focused government |
A woman who recently clocked 100 has appealed for support from Benue State Government. Kutsuwe Kwembe, said to have celebrated her 100th birthday last month, was amongst an estimated 110,000 people displaced by flood in Makurdi. She’s currently taking shelter at the camp of internally displaced persons in Makurdi, the state capital. She said the August 27 flood was the third disaster she had experienced in recent years. Her house was first destroyed in a flood around Gyado Villa neighbourhood eight years ago. She was also a victim of the 2012 flood caused by the opening of Lagdo Lake Reservoir in Cameroon. The latest flood destroyed some of the basic items she had in her house and flushed away the rest, according to her septuagenarian daughter who spoke on her behalf because she had become inaudible. The centenarian’s appeal came hours after she was visited by the First Lady of Benue State, Eunice Ortom. “The governor’s wife was here, but she just prayed and left,” her daughter said. They were amongst those Mrs. Ortom saw during a Tuesday morning inspection tour of parts of the camp, which now holds about 4776 displaced persons. Other inhabitants of the camp have also been narrating their ordeal, with appeals to state and federal authorities to provide enough support to stand on their own when they return to their homes. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/242513-100-year-old-victim-of-benue-flood-narrates-experience.html https://i1.wp.com/media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2017/09/IMG_20170905_123902-e1504684678165.jpg?fit=800%2C449 |

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola yesterday unveiled plans of roads to be constructed and bridges to be rehabilitated. One among the bridges to be rehabilitated is the Buruku bridge in Benue. See below; "Over 45 bridges, according to the list, are slated for rehabilitation over the next three years. They include two bridges along Sokoto-Gusau Road, Murtala Mohammed Bridge, Koton Karfe, River Ebba to Cheche Bridge, Jebba Bridge, 3rdMainland Bridge, nine Lagos Bridges and flyovers, Lagos Ring Road Bridge Abutment, Ijora 7-Up Bridge, Ijora-Apapa Bridge by Leventis and burnt Marine Bridge. They also include Utor Bridge, Niger Bridge at Onitsha/Asaba, Onitsha-Owerri Bridge, Ibagwa Bridge, Ikom Bridge, Itigidi, Makurdi Bridge, Quata Sule Bridge, Katsina Ala Bridge, Buruku Bridge, Abuja-Abaji Bridge Section 11, Loko Owotu Bridge, Ibi Bridge, Kudzum Bridge, Gombe-Michika-Maraba Bridge, Gamboru Bridge, Katanko Bridge, Jaji Bridge, Borno/Adamawa State Border Bridge, Falani Bridge, Sumaila, Flyover Bridge at Silver Jubilee and Tambuwal Bridge" https://www.nairaland.com/3959506/fashola-lists-44-highways-63 However, and as a matter of fact, Buruku bridge in Benue does not exist as cars are ferried across the river using boats. I don't want to believe Fashola actually released a statement with this lie, there has never even been a mobilization to build a bridge there!!. So if Buruku bridge does not exist, what is the federal government planning to rehabilitate? is this how they plan on draining the government purse? http://www.authorityngr.com/2016/10/River-Benue--Bukuru-community-s-nemesis/ http://thenationonlineng.net/buruku-river-confluence-of-trade-and-woes/ https://thenationonlineng.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Passengers-on-boat-alongside-transported-motorcycles.jpg |

The Igbos in Benue are visitors and have no claim to any council ward talk less a local government, no tribe in Benue is remotely connected to Igbos be it historical, cultural or traditional!!
