More revelations are beginning to crop up as what could have possibly led Lekan Shonde to murder his wife, Ronke, with the late woman's family insisting he killed his wife because he was afraid she was going to leave him after she found out that he had a child outside wedlock.
Though the 57-year-old Shonde has insisted he did not kill Ronke, the family of the deceased has reacted to the allegations of infidelity he levelled The only surviving child of the family, Bolatito Bewaji, who is Ronke's elder sister, told Punch Newspaper that Shonde allegedly killed her sister due to jealousy and insecurity especially with the discovery that he had a child he did not tell her about and that this had really put a strain on the marriage.
Bolatito said Ronke had endured a long period of domestic abuse, and had almost packed out of their home in December, 2015, insisting that her sister would not have died if she had listened when she (Bolatito) and their mother begged her to leave the house after a series of abuse.
“The first case of abuse which I can remember, happened sometime in 2012. The most recent was in December, 2015, when we were still mourning the death of my brother. My mother was in the house with them when he started to verbally assault her.
It was getting heated and my mum had to immediately leave the house. My mum called me and I went to a police station closest to the house. The policemen there said I could not report the case since I was not the victim.
I went to their house and insisted that Ronke should leave the house but Lekan refused to let her go, and this created a scene on their street.
My mother said I must make sure she packed her belongings. I started begging her to follow me, and she stood up and went ahead of me. But as I stepped out, I discovered that she had gone back. When I returned to their house, I found her in bed.
I called her and said, ‘my sister, do you want to die? We don’t want to lose you. We just lost our second born. I know you are a loving person and you care about your family, but you have to quit this marriage.’ At this point, Ronke started crying,” Bolatito said.against her, saying they are all cooked up lies as their daughter was not that kind of a person.

She added that Ronke's problems that led to her death started after a woman turned up in their home with a child.
“My sister called me and said her husband had a child outside wedlock. She said somebody brought the child to the house and said her husband was the father. She was shattered by that news and from that time, she started keeping to herself.
Lekan asked her to forgive him, saying it was the devil’s handiwork. He would kneel and beg in the kitchen and bathroom. He promised to do a DNA test to know if the child was truly his own, but he didn’t do it. He started sending people to beg her. But she decided to stop talking to him.”
Asked about the infidelity accusation, Bolatito debunked the allegation, saying her sister never had any relationship out of wedlock, as the said relationship between Ronke and the manager in question was just professional.
She also punched holes into Shonde's claims that he bought two cars for his late wife, saying that too was false.
“She has been struggling to raise N70,000 to change the gearbox of her car. My sister would sometimes ask me for money for her children’s school fees and other things, but he (Lekan) would check her account and ask who sent the money and they would start fighting over it.
Since we lost our brother, the two of us became close and we promised to stay together to take care of our mum. But now, see what he has done to our family,” she concluded.
Another family member added that when Ronke refused to take any action on the child born out of wedlock, her husband checked her phones to know if she was dating another person in retaliation, and was always monitoring her.
“He would pick her phone and would query her on numbers not in her contact, he would ask who it was and why he was calling. Before she got her job, whenever she was going for an interview, he would commission a motorcyclist to trail her and check if she actually went for the interview or not.
If she told him she was going to see a friend, she would call that friend some minutes later and said he could not reach his wife on her mobile phone and would like to talk to her through the friend’s phone, just to check if she was there.
At another time, he started waiting for her at the gate at night to see who would drop her at the gate.
It got to a point that he sent friendship request to all her male friends on Facebook and got their contacts and started calling them and harassing them. The man is insecure and jealous.
He was always concerned about his age as his friends mocked him that he was too old for the 36-year-old woman and may not be able to satisfy her in bed.
Ronke was a loving person. The only thing that mattered to her was her family and her children. Even when things were bad, she would call her sister to borrow money to pay rent or pay the children’s school fees.”

CrimeRonke Shonde’s Sister Denies Lekan Shonde’s Claims by vorigan(op): 3:02pm On May 11, 2016
https://d1phczbdxyh8yo.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/10012429/Shonde.jpg

Fresh revelations from the Bewajis, Lekan Shonde’s in-laws, have rubbished the accounts of the alleged killer of always providing for the family, leaving his two cars for Ronke and catching her philandering with a manager in the packaging company she worked.

Lekan Shonde, 51, was described as an intensely jealous and insecure husband. The Ogun state indegene who surrendered on Monday, May 9, four days after his wife was discovered lifeless in their Egbeda-Idimu apartment on Friday, May 6, is said to be a recklessly violent man.

From the account of Bolatito, the only surviving sibling of Ronke, Lekan’s explanations are far from the truth.

Here are 10 shockers from Bolatito’s interview with Punch…

1. Lekan’s first physical abuse was in 2012. And the most recent was in December 2015, which almost led Ronke packing out of the house. She had agreed to leave, but changed her mind later. The case was even reported to the police.

2.Ronke, whose brother just passed on, was crying while Bolatito, on instructions of their mum, was begging her to leave him, that December 2015.

3. A pastor and landlady on their street begged on behalf of Lekan Shonde. And she stayed, in spite of the warning.

4. The recent source of rancour was a love child brought by his baby mama. The discovery shattered Ronke. And Lekan was pleading and begging, even volunteering to do a DNA test, which he never did.

5. The love child expose turned Ronke into a quieter woman who stopped talking to her husband.

6. Bolatito claimed Ronke never had a relationship outside wedlock. That it was Lekan’s jealousy and insecurity that fueled his suspicion. That the manager mentioned had a professional relationship with Ronke.

7. On many occasions, three other colleagues of Ronke had been accused of dating her. That even male Facebook friends have been embarrsssed by useless accusations.

8. Lekan kept vigil in front of their house to see who would drop his wife. And accuse her of adultery.

9. The children school fees were sometimes paid by the Bewajis, contrary to Lekan’s account of providing for the family. And sometimes rent. That before she died, she was struggling to raise N70,000 to replace the gear box of her car.

10. Lekan constantly went through Ronke’s phones to see if she was cheating. And constantly trailed her to check if she had lovers.

According to The Nation newspaper, alleged wife killer, Lekan Shonde, shuttled Cotonou, Benin Republic, Badagry and Ondo State since Friday. Lekan, it was gathered cried severally, insisting that he did not kill his late wife. His friends, Sunday Nwobi and Gbenga Sholuki, who claimed to have known him for decades, said he has never been a violent person.

They claimed that he loved his wife so much that the family’s income was kept in her custody. “At the moment he has nothing because even the money he makes was kept in an account the wife has access to. Even the ATM card is with her. Everything was under her. That’s how much he loved her,” they claimed.

According to Nwobi, he has been Lekan’s friend for 33 years, they both attended Ikeja High School. “He has never been violent. I have known him for the past 33 years and I can tell you that he is a gentleman. He was in the same class with my immediate younger brother who has just returned from the U.S because of this matter.

I have been in touch with him since the ugly incident and he sent me over 70 messages threatening to commit suicide. He told me he had quarrel with his wife on alleged infidelity. He said his wife confessed she has man friend.
Lekan told me that he caught his wife talking to the man on phone and that she went to Abuja with her lover and they spent five days together. As the wife was confessing and begging him, he said he pushed her aside and went into the room to sleep. That he didn’t talk to her nor touch her because he was angry.

Since he usually left the house early (5am) for work every day and returns around 8pm, he said he left that day as usual and that their eight-year-old son was the one who bolted the door, while he used his own key to lock the gate as usual.

Lekan told me that he never knew anything has happened to his wife until he was called by his landlady on phone. That his landlady told him his wife had died and that he was a suspect. He said his landlady’s daughter also called him. He was on his way to the house but different people called and told him to run because police were in his house and they were looking for him as the suspect.
That was why he fled. But as soon as he contacted me that same day, I kept telling him to come out. His aged father also told him to turn himself in and allow the law to run its course,” he said.

Similarly, Sholuki, who’s Executive Director, Campaign against Impunity and Domestic Violence said he came out for Shonde because he believed in him. “Even as we were coming to the police command, he has spoken with his mother-in-law to notify her that he has surrendered.
The woman told him that he has done very well for her family and that though they were pained, they have forgiven him and he should not think of suicide again. He also called his wife’s lover and told him he hoped he was happy now that he has destroyed his home. The man begged for forgiveness.
When information came to us about what has happened, we told him to come out for the law to take its course. We have known him for a long time and he is not a violent person. We want justice. We are demanding a medical examination to ascertain what really happened.

He cherishes his wife and says very pleasant things about her. If scientific evidence proofs he killed his wife, then, he should go in for it. Lagos State Police Commissioner, Owoseni, said an autopsy will ascertain the cause of death.

PoliticsLetter To Buhari: Militants Bomb Tompolo; Vow To Attack His Town, Blow More Pipe by vorigan(op): 8:53am On May 05, 2016
A new militant group, Niger Delta Avengers has told Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo, that his letter to President Muhammadu Buhari disowning the group and assuring the federal government of safety on the proposed repair works in the region would not stop it from blowing gas pipelines.
Tompolo had earlier in the week, in an open letter to President Buhari personally signed and titled “I AM NOT PART OF THE NIGER DELTA AVENGERS GROUP,‎” alleged that the oil pipeline repair servicing companies were behind sabotage of the facilities.

Tompolo also urged the oil servicing company who awarded the contract to repair the damaged Forcados 48-inch pipeline to go about its job without fear.

Niger Delta Avengers, however, dismissed Tompolo’s assurance to the government, warning him to stay out of their way.

In a letter sent to media houses, the group addressing Tompolo noted: “With due respect Sir, we the Niger Delta Avengers respect you and all former agitators from the region.

“We admire your love for the region and all you have done. The Niger Delta Avengers made it clear that we are not part of the Presidential Amnesty program because the program is not genuine.

“We the Niger Delta Avengers have only decided to pick the struggle up from where you and the former Niger Delta agitators left off; it is only the actors that are new. You are not one of us and you need not border yourself to try to convince anyone.

“As a result, if you can’t join us, PLEASE take your hands off our activities because it’s a slap on our face for you to give a nod for repair works to continue on the 48-inch pipeline at Forcados despite a stern warning by us for no one to go near the blast site.

“We hereby give you a three-day ultimatum to apologize to the Niger Delta Avengers in the same national dailies, as anything other than that will mean that we shall bring the war to your doorstep by blowing up all oil installations within your backyard, Gbaramatu Kingdom, since you have taken sides with the federal government to fight the Niger Delta people.”

Benue State Internal Revenue Service has explained why it receives N50,000 Naira tax yearly for electricity generating sets from private residents and up to N150,000 Naira from business outfits across the state.
Addressing newsmen in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, Terna Francis, the media assistant to the Chairman of the board, Mrs Mimi Orubibi, said that the tax will be used by government for the “maintenance of the ozone layer” depleted by fumes emitted from the generators.

“When these levies are collected, they are channeled towards the maintenance of the ozone layer to avoid natural disaster”, he ridiculously explained.

When asked about how they intended to carry that out, considering that the ozone layer is a belt of naturally occurring ozone gas that sits about 30 kilometers above the Earth, he declined comment.

CelebritiesRe: Shirley Bassey,Welsh of Nigerian Origin Who Sang Three James Bond Theme Songs by vorigan(op): 5:11pm On Apr 04, 2016
rom humble beginnings, Dame Shirley Veronica Bassey was referred to as the ‘big voice.’ An acclaimed singer, Dame Bassey recorded numerous hits to include three theme songs for Ian Flemming’s famous James Bond movies, namely; Gold finger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker. Dame Bassey, with beauty and elegance, fondly regarded as an ‘old school,’ singer by some, has indeed acquired a high level of international applause rarely attained by other black British performers that came before her.

A first visit to Wales, and the question sometimes asked by those outside that country and in other parts of the United Kingdom is; ‘Wales is it? Oh, have you heard of Dame Bassey?’ the question always comes with a smile. An ignorant shake of the head is always received with shock, and who would not be when the woman is regarded a legend in those places?

Dame Bassey was born on January 8, 1937, to an English mother and a Nigerian father, in the picturesque, city of Cardiff, Tiger Bay to be exact in Wales. She is the seventh and youngest of her parents, born into a household of three sisters, two half-sisters, and one brother. Her family struggled with poverty living in Splott, a working class area in Cardiff, where she stood out because of her colour.

She attended Moorland Road School and Splott Secondary Modern School. In 1952, she left school at the age of 14 to start work in a factory. A survivor, determined to succeed through the hardships, she sang in pubs and clubs in the evening and at weekends. In 1953, Dame Bassey signed her first professional contract, to sing in the touring variety show Memories of Jolson, a musical based on the life of Al Jolson.

Becoming 16, she was cast in a musical revue. This performance became short lived after she got pregnant with her first child. Her music career paused for a while and she returned to waiting tables in Cardiff, putting her daughter in care of her sister. After a while she recommenced performance again. Fortune smiled on Dame Bassey when agent Mike Sullivan heard her singing one day. Impressed with her bold expressive voice, he was encouraged to begin managing her career as a singer.

She toured numerous theatres and was eventually spotted by the promoter Jack Hylton. He asked her to starr in Al Read’s ‘Such Is Life’ at the Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End. It was during the show that Philips record producer Johnny Franz noticed her potential on television, enthralled, he offered her a recording deal.

Her success came rolling in successively, one after the other when Dame Bassey at 19, released her first single, “Burn My Candle.” In 1957, she had her first hit with “Banana Boat Song.” And then the cherry on the icing came when she sang and became internationally famous for the song, “Goldfinger” for the 1964 James Bond movie of the same name. Afterwards, Dame Bassey was contracted to sing the other two theme songs for Bond films, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker, which were also popular hits that gained her international recognition.

What is remarkable about Dame Bassey is that she was very determined and strove to be successful in her music career from a very young age, a path that brought her out of poverty and into a life of plenty. The James Bond theme songs, together with other songs uniquely sang made her career a huge, remarkable success, placing her in a class of her own.

Personally, Dame Bassey equally had her share of personal challenges. She had two daughters and one adopted son and she was married twice, both of which ended in divorce. She lost one of her daughter’s in 1985, and that was a big blow to the singer who suspected that foul play was involved in her daughter’s demise.

She was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2000, by Queen Elizabeth II for services to the performing arts, another mark of distinction that set her aside and added a feather to her cap. Her career has had her sell over 135 million records. Dame Bassey presently is still recognised and applauded for her extraordinary singing. Seeming to have engraved her mark of excellence in the minds of generations through her singing for the classical James Bond films. She received a standing ovation at the 2013 Academy Awards for her performance of “Goldfinger.”

She received her only United States Top 40 Billboard Hot 100 hit in 1965 with Goldfinger. The single was released in the United States during January 1965, and peaked at No. 8, while the original soundtrack of Goldfinger hit No. 1 in the United States that year. With a career of over 60 years, Dame Bassey has certainly carved her niche in the music industry and has been recognised as ‘one of the most popular female vocalists in Britain during the last half of the 20th century.’ She was also awarded France’s highest honour, the Legion d’Honneur, to indicate her fame and status in the culture of France.

Dame Shirley Bassey, in full Shirley Veronica Bassey (born January 8, 1937, Tiger Bay, Cardiff, Wales), glamorous Welsh singer. Renowned for her strident, sultry voice, sequined gowns, and lavish jewelry, she was a forerunner of the score of pop music divas who emerged in the last decades of the 20th century. She was also one of the first black British entertainers to gain national and international fame.

Shirley Veronica Bassey was the sixth and youngest child of Henry Bassey and Eliza Jane Start, and was born in Tiger Bay, Cardiff, Wales. At the time, Tiger Bay was one of the largest ports in the world and it was very multi-ethnic. Her father was Nigerian and her mother was English, from Teesside. Two of her mother's four children from previous relationships lived in the Bassey household. Bassey's mother listed her first husband, Alfred Metcalfe, as her own father in the registry of her marriage to Henry Bassey, giving rise to speculation that this marriage was bigamous in the absence of a prior divorce.Eliza and Henry's second child died in infancy, so Shirley was born into a household of three sisters, two half-sisters, and one brother.

Teachers and students alike at Moorland Road School noticed Bassey's strong voice, but gave the pre-teen little encouragement: " '...everyone told me to shut up. Even in the school choir the teacher kept telling me to back off till I was singing in the corridor!' A classmate recalled her singing the refrain 'Can't help lovin' that man of mine' from Show Boat with such feeling that she made their teacher uncomfortable." After leaving Splott Secondary Modern School at age 14, Bassey found employment at a factory while singing in public houses and clubs in the evenings and on weekends

The youngest of seven children of an English mother and a Nigerian father who separated before she was three years old, Bassey grew up in a working-class area of Cardiff, Wales. After leaving school at age 15, she worked in a factory, sang in men’s clubs, and performed in touring revues before making her breakthrough in a Christmas show in London in 1955. Landing a record contract, she had her first British hit in 1957 with “Banana Boat Song.”

Among her subsequent U.K. chart toppers were “As I Love You” (1959) and “Reach for the Stars/Climb Every Mountain” (1961), and she continued to have hits in Britain into the 1970s. In the United States she is best known for the theme songs she sang for James Bond movies: “Moonraker” (1979), “Diamonds Are Forever” (1971), and especially “Goldfinger” (1964). In 1977 she won the Britannia Award for Best Female Solo Singer in the Last 50 Years. In 1993 she was made a Commander of the British Empire and in 2000 a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

Shirley's father - and the father of six of Eliza Jane's babies in all - was called Henry Bassey and was something of a mystery figure whose real name was Okun Apauso. Shirley was led to believe that he deserted the family when she was just a toddler.
'My mother and my father were divorced when I was two,' she would tell those who inquired about her early life.

But Williams's researches into her background, after trawling through official records and old newspaper reports, have thrown up a skeleton in the cupboard that perhaps even Miss Bassey is unaware of - the real reason why her father left his family and was never seen again.

PoliticsThe Mass Boko Haram Kidnapping That The Nigerian Govt Covered Up - TELEGRAPH UK by vorigan(op): 8:44am On Mar 31, 2016
By AFP2:29AM BST 31 Mar 2016

Boko Haram seized hundreds of children from a remote town in northeast Nigeria in late 2014 but initial calls to report the kidnapping were ignored with locals fearful of the government's response, residents told AFP on Wednesday.
A local government administrator, a chief, another elder and a resident all said some 300 children were among the 500 girls, boys and women taken from Damasak on Monday November 24, 2014.
The numbers involved surpass even the 276 schoolgirls who were taken from Chibok in April the same year, which drew worldwide condemnation and calls for action.

But the government of former president Goodluck Jonathan in March last year denied reports of the Damasak kidnapping while a local senator and a senior intelligence source also doubted the claim.
The administrator, whose seven-year-old child was among those abducted, said: "We kept quiet on the kidnap out of fear of drawing the wrath of the government, which was already grappling with the embarrassment of the kidnap of the Chibok schoolgirls.
"Every parent was afraid to speak out," he said on condition of anonymity.
Locals who managed to flee alerted their political representatives in the Nigerian Senate and House of Representatives but "they kept mute and ignored us", he added.

"The government didn't want the news out," he said, explaining that the decision to speak out publicly came after Human Rights Watch highlighted the case on Tuesday.
"They went to the private school and Islamic seminaries and carted away children as young as five," added the local chief, who also asked not to be identified.
"They also went into town and forcibly seized children from their mothers, children too old to be breastfed. My 16 nephews were among the children kidnapped. They were aged between five and 16."
Hundreds fled across the river that separates Damasak from Diffa in neighbouring Niger but many drowned, he said, adding that he returned to bury "over 200 dead bodies in mass graves".

The Damasak elder said the insurgents killed more than 200 in the initial attack, which happened on market day.
HRW's report interviewed multiple witnesses to the abduction, who said the hostages were initially kept at a primary school, which was then turned into a military base.
The schoolchildren were aged seven to 17 but one witness told HRW she had not seen her two-year-old daughter and four-year-old son since they were seized on the day of the attack.
Men were detained separately and forced to dispose of bodies from the streets and the river in makeshift graves, the witnesses said, with one claiming to have seen hundreds of bodies.

Troops from Chad and Niger liberated Damasak on March 9 last year and discovered about 100 bodies in a mass grave under a bridge on the edge of the town. Some had been decapitated and others shot.
Hundreds more bodies, including of women and children, were found the following month on the streets, in houses and in the dried-up river, local residents said at the time.
They were covered by sand from the encroaching desert and the authorities ordered their reburial in 20 mass graves.
Both the HRW testimony and that gathered by AFP underlines the brutality of a conflict that has claimed an estimated 20,000 lives and made more than 2.6 million people homeless since 2009.
Boko Haram has long used kidnapping as a weapon of war, forcibly conscripting young boys and men into their ranks and using women and young girls as sex slaves and suicide bombers.
But the findings will also raise fresh questions about the previous government's handling of the insurgency, after its response to the Chibok abduction was condemned as slow and lacklustre.
Nearly two years on, 219 schoolgirls are still being held.

Mausi Segun, HRW's senior Nigeria researcher, said President Muhammadu Buhari's government, in power since May last year, had to act.
"Three hundred children have been missing for a year and yet there has been not a word from the Nigerian government," she said.
"The authorities need to wake up and find out where the Damasak children and other captives are and take urgent steps to free them."

It wasn’t long ago that we were Paris, standing in solidarity against terrorism when it happens in one of the most beautiful, pristine, impeccable places that we can think of. If Paris — the city of locks and towers and baguettes and love, a place for Americans and Europeans to escape to, a symbol of an idyllic world — can be violated, then we lose our security. We lose our presupposed safety. We lose a part of our developed world.

And now, with Brussels, our Western world is threatened again. If they can get Brussels, they can get you. You, in a restaurant, in a subway, in your home. These are places we are used to. These are countries we have been to. These are deaths that matter.

Because it’s easy to show solidarity with cities to which we find similarities. It’s human nature - if someone hurts a person unrelated to you, you are unlikely to care. If someone hurts your classmate, you are more likely to care. That classmate is like you in some way - be it in location, socioeconomic status, or the fact that you know their name and they know yours. There is familiarity.

But one day before Paris, there was a suicide bombing in Beirut that killed 43. One day after Paris, a bombing in Nigeria killed over 34 people. In 2016 mass terrorist attacks have murdered people in Nigeria and Turkey. Over 800 were killed in one chemical attack in Iraq. But Nigeria and Turkey aren’t a part of our world, and we’re used to violence in Iraq.

These things do not register with us in the same way that Paris or Brussels do, either because we do not hear the name of the country enough, or we hear it too often associated with violence. It is as if we only pay attention to those places familiar to us in some positive light. It is as if these are the only places where death matters.

I do not ask that we post a new hashtag for each of the hundreds of attacks that happen each year. I do not ask that we minimize the horror of Paris or Brussels, or the suffering of those affected by the attacks. I do not ask that we cease standing united against terrorism.

I simply ask that we pay attention.

The violence that occurs often in the Middle East matters not despite, but because of its frequency. The violence that occurs in Cameroon matters even though many Americans cannot place Cameroon on a map. The violence in Peshawar matters and keeps happening over and over - but we do not pay attention.

I ask you not to pray for every country, but to be conscious of those attacks that occur worldwide. I ask international news sites to report incidents worldwide and to place articles on the front page if hundreds die, not if hundreds die in a country we were hoping to travel to for summer break. And I ask you to read, to stay informed.

I ask you to care.

• It was for his mother’s kidney dialysis, lawyer affirms

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday alleged that another Lagos senior lawyer also transferred N750,000 to the embattled Judge of the Federal High Court, Mohammed Yunusa.

The anti-graft agency said another sum of N300,000 was transferred to the company account of another judge of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, Justice H.A Nganjiwa.

This latest revelations are contained in a counter affidavit in opposition to the further and better affidavit deposed to by a former employee of Rickey Tarfa and Co. Mohammed Awwal Yunusa.

The embattled Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Rickey Tarfa, had sought and obtained the leave of court to file the further evidence in the N2.5 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit he filed against the EFCC.

Countering the new evidence, an operative of the Commission, Moses Awolusi in an affidavit swore that new revelations have emerged about the alleged fraud of bribing judges through ‘a network of senior lawyers.’

He said: “Investigation has also shown that as part of this chain of fraud, Mr. Joseph Nwobike (SAN) also transferred the sum of N300,000 to Hon. Justice H.A Nganjiwa.

“That investigations further revealed that Hon. Justice M.N Yunusa as part of this scheme of fraud also received the sum of N750,000 from Mr. Joseph Nwobike SAN and Co.” he deposed.

But Nwobike in his statement to the anti-graft agency, which was also attached to the affidavit, explained that the money was not meant to bribe the judge. He said it was the judge who asked him for financial assistance in respect of his ill mother who was undergoing dialysis due to failing kidney.

The lawyer said: “Sometime ago, Justice Yunusa requested to see me. When I got there, he pleaded with me to assist him with some funds since his mother was under dialysis. He stated that her kidney had parked up and that he needs assistance to cure her. I felt sorry for him. I told him that I do not have funds, but that I will assist him when I get some money.

“I requested for his account details which he obliged me. When I got some money about two weeks after, I gave the money to him and he thanked me when he saw me along the corridor of the court of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi.”
