2013 was a very eventful year for us here. We saw the worst of the worst all in the name of “celebrity”! We saw popular people with no talent become more popular, we saw people with no style at all torture our eyes on every red carpet. This list names 8 people who tormented us in 2013, and whom we really wish they could ” make it stop”. So these people are what I would like to call, the train wrecks of the year: 1. Tonto Dike From her crappy music, to her even crappier acting, down to her tacky style choices, this council member of the bleachers inc is certainly a train wreck. Fighting on Twitter, dissing other “celebs” on social media, showing off knock offs on instagram down to the NDLEA weed episode, there is no stopping Tonto. Girl loves attention, and will do anything to get it. If only she can devote this amount of passion to bettering her craft. 2. Davido What Davido lacks in talent, he makes up with a HUGE ego. This noise maker is a product of a massive PR machine, oiled by (as we hear) family money. The spoilt brat flights at clubs, spews rubbish during interviews, and is always ready to cuss out anyone who doesn’t agree with him. In a country where you can become a “celeb” with half baked talent, Davido certainly reigns supreme. 3. Muna If Muna would get off fighting with anyone who describes her lack of talent on Twitter, maybe, just maybe she would have one hit song. This former MGBN who describes herself as a rapper (rolls eyes) is certainly a very pretty girl, but it appears that is all there is to her. Her personal style also hasn’t improved. Winning MGBN is a great launch pad, so I suggest that she figures out what it is that she is good at, because rapping (rolls eyes again) is definitely not one of them. 4. Toyin Lawani We woke up one morning and Toyin lawani was everywhere. This stylist (her words not mine) and chairperson of the Bleachers INC is clearly the joke of the year. She's currently pregnant, so I will try to be nice (lol). She should however go easy on the bleaching, and we are so tired of seeing her knock offs on Instagram. Someone told me that she is a fashion designer also (scoffs). Ms lawani is not about to stop. 5. Cossy Orjiakor I cringe whenever someone refers to Cossy as a Nollywood actress. So showing off humoungous "oranges" and a flabby body in the most rachet way possible qualifies her as an actress? Shame!! Cossy has no talent whatsoever, I would have suggested she moved to Las Vegas to be in a burlesque show, but her flabby body won’t quite cut it. So the big question remains “what is it that Cossy does”? 6. Afrocandy This “I am getting old, but I must be talked about” woman is hilarious joke. She is described as a producer/director of soft bad movies, which she often features in. She is often on social media, sharing her opinion on everything. Somebody described her as Nigeria’s Anna Nicole Smith and I nearly fell off the chair laughing. Dear Afrocandy, you are getting older, just accept it! Being ratchet won’t reverse the clock. 7. Maheeda I certainly don’t know how to classify this woman. I am not quite sure what she does, besides showing off her “vijayjay” on Instagram and there seems to be no stopping her. Not even Instagram themselves who suspended her account, can stop her as she is back and stronger! Lol! We have no words!! 8. Uche Jumbo I am not big on Nollywood, but I hear that Uche Jumbo’s acting has improved. I also hear that she has become a film maker, which is good too. However she is on this list because of her style or lack of it. Her marriage to an American eye candy hasn’t improved her horror style. Her horror highlight was at the AMVCA nominees party where I could have sworn that she was attacked by a pack of wolves just before she got in the red carpet. Girlfriend needs a stylist like yesterday. Well let’s hope they make it stop in the new year. http://www..com/talk/topic,185184.0.html

Seven Nigerian universities in the sixth Pan-African Universities Debating Championship have crashed out of the final stage of the competition, leaving their competitors from South Africa and Botswana to take the shine. The University of Cape Town, South Africa emerged winner, carting home a star price of $1,000. The theme of the championship hosted by the University of Calabar is “Conflict, Insecurity and Good Governance in Africa.” The eight African countries that participated are South-Africa,Ghana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Tanzania, Botswana and Nigeria. The Nigerian universities that took part in the debate are the University of Calabar, Cross River University of Technology, Imo State University, University of Lagos; University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State; University of Uyo, Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State and Michael Opara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State. Speaking during the award ceremony, the chairman of the occasion and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), UNICAL, Prof. Austin Obiekezie, congratulated the schools for participating in the tournament. Obiekezie said, “This debate was not only to compete and win, but an opportunity to network and maintain long-lasting partnership within Africa. One thing we should go home with is unity. Let us shun favouritism, nepotism and any act capable of dwindling the continent.” He described the championship as the best of its kind since inception, adding, “I see this championship as the best-behaved debating community in Africa.” Advising the participants, the convener, Prof. Eze Bassey, said, “It is high time students started to think positively and share ideas that can bring development to the region.” Leader of the South African group and student of the University of Cape Town, Mr. Daniel Corder, said, “This was my first experience in participating in a debating championship and with hard work and persistence I contributed to our victory.” Corder described Calabar as the best city within the sub-western region in Africa. UNICAL is the first university to host the debate within the West African sub-region. http://www.punchng.com/education/varsity-debate-nigeria-crashes-out-as-safrica-wins-contest/ |
President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday hit back at his critics and opposition parties, accusing them of painting his administration “bad before the global community.” He therefore warned that he would not allow their selfish ambition for the 2015 general election to destroy the country. His warning is coming six days after an 18-page letter in which a former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, made scathing remarks about his administration was made public. It also came less than 24 hours after the opposition All Progressives Congress called on the National Assembly to immediately commence impeachment proceeding against Jonathan for alleged gross misconduct. Although he has yet to personally respond to Obasanjo’s letter and the APC’s call for his impeachment, the Peoples Democratic Movement and the Nigeria Labour Congress on Monday, said he needed to do so because the allegations levelled against him by the former President were weighty. At a lecture and award ceremony in Abuja on Monday, Jonathan told his critics to be cautious in attacking his administration because it was the selfish ambition of some politicians that led to the “wrongful overthrow” of the Shehu Shagari administration in 1983. He was represented at the annual lecture, the third in a series by Nigerian Pilot Newspapers and Nigerian Newsworld, by the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku. The President claimed that the criticisms against his administration were not constructive enough to challenge his development strides. Jonathan, who said he had developed a “thick skin against such criticisms”, however advised politicians to thread with caution as their actions could destabilise the democractic structures already in place in the country. He said, “There is a difference between ambition and reality. Go for your ambition, nobody is disturbing you because it is a free world. Go and compete, but don’t pull down this country called Nigeria because of your personal ambition. It is unacceptable. “I think there is a difference between debates and insults. I reject insults and the fact that I am a public officer doesn’t give anybody the liberty to insult me. Most of the time you cannot detach the Office of the President and honour of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “There are people who are honestly trying to put things down for this country to move on. I think we can see the difference between facts and fiction. “Let us not continue to behave as if we can pull down our own house; we as politicians and public servants should not behave as if we were picked on the streets. You don’t just go and pour acid on the faces of public officers. “When Shagari was overthrown in 1983, there was a lot of noise that the government was not doing anything and nothing was not said about Shagari’s regime. “Shagari was overthrown amidst lies….The greatest shame of this country is Ajaokuta Steel Complex. If Shagari was there, by 1986, he would have completed Ajaokuta.” But Maku took a swipe at the media, stressing that on a daily basis, they were awash with highly fictional information. He said, “If you look through our media reports today, we see insults and abuses, every day. If somebody did not abuse Mr. President, it will look as if there is no journalism on that day. “We are talking about our country, our nation’s institutions and democracy; we are talking about setting standards for this democracy, standards of behaviour, standards of conduct and standards of principles of behaviour and every democracy must be parliamentary. We should not go personal, but we are going too personal.” Maku compared the media to a mirror, which when broken, gives a false image. He said, “We must not destroy the mirror and present the image as ugly. “The mirror is very important in conveying the good image of our people. We have completely ignored issues on the ground and we are embarking on personality debates. “The way we are sensationalising the development of this nation in public debates, is so annoying and it is not supposed to be so. I am a big time journalist. “But there is a difference between reporting events and articulating a position because the media are supposed to articulate public debates. When the media embark on abuse and insults, the people will be confused.” He also stated that the liberty being enjoyed by Nigerians had been taken for granted simply because “the President believes in the rule of law.” But as he spoke, the PDM, like the APC, called on the National Assembly to impeach Jonathan if he failed to defend himself against the allegations by Obasanjo. It also advised Nigerians to stop trusting him since he had been unable to do so. The party argued that the allegations contained in the former President’s letter were earth-shaking. In a statement on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ahmadu Abubakar, the PDM listed all the allegations in the letter and said the President, in his interest and that of the country, must address them. It said it was bad that Jonathan , instead of addressing the issues, resorted to crude means of answering them. The statement reads in part,” If the President cannot defend himself of these allegations, he should come clean and openly say so instead of resorting to the dubious tactic of non response. “If he cannot defend himself against these grave allegations levelled against him by no less a personality than … a person who knows fully the implications of what he says, there is no reason why Nigerians should trust him a day longer than necessary with the fate of their country. “In which case, he should either promptly resign or be impeached.” It also called on the National Assembly to fully and painstakingly investigate Obasanjo’s allegations by first, asking the President to fully explain himself. Also, the NLC called on Jonathan to respond to the “weighty” allegations against his administration. The congress, through its Acting General Secretary, Mr. Chris Uyot, told one of our correspondents that Jonathan’s response was needed because the allegations bordered on national security and the management of the nation’s economy. It also urged the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to ensure that its lingering internal crisis did not engulf the country. The labour group argued that since the letter by Obasanjo became public knowledge, Nigerians had patiently waited for a response from Jonathan. It said, “The issues raised are weighty enough for the President to respond to. One of the issues borders on national security while another is on the management of the economy. “As far as we are concerned, Obasanjo wrote a letter to the President and made those allegations, and Nigerians want him to respond to the said letter. The NLC would respond to the controversy at the appropriate time.” Obasanjo had in the letter dated December 2, 2013 and titled, “Before it is too late,” accused Jonathan of taking actions inimical to the well-being of the nation. The former President also alleged that the President was committing anti-party activities against the ruling PDP because of his political ambition. Obasanjo, who accused Jonathan of training snipers and putting 1, 000 politicians under watch, alleged that he was also dividing the country along ethnic and religious lines. But the NLC said that the ruling class in the country had been engulfed by a war which Nigerian workers must avoid. It said that workers should be watchful and vigilant enough to avoid being drawn into taking sides in the fray among the ruling elite. The congress added, “This is not the time for sentiments; it calls for reflection, we all know the problem of Nigeria. Let the PDP not make its problem a national problem.” http://www.punchng.com/news/apc-others-attacking-me-because-of-2015-jonathan/ |
Golden Eaglets forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, is set to join English Premier League side, Manchester City. The player left having been released on Monday from the Super Eagles camp in Abuja by Stephen Keshi. Iheanacho was in camp for the Championship of African Nations billed for South Africa in January. A statement from the Eagles Media officer, Ben Alaiya, on Monday confirmed Iheanacho’s departure for England. The PUNCH however could not get a confirmation from City of any such move as at Monday night. The youngster was the Most Valuable Player at the recent FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. The competition was won by Nigeria after defeating Mexico 3-0 in the final match. Keshi was quoted by Alaiya as saying that he had to approve the departure of the player after his father, James Iheanacho, personally put a call to him on Monday afternoon requesting the release of his son for the trip to England. Keshi said, “Initially a young man came declaring that he was the agent of Iheanacho, but I declined to deal with him until I hear from the family because the boy is still a minor. “It was soon after my rejection that I got a call from his father who told me that they have got travelling visa to the United Kingdom and that I should oblige him with his son’s release. I did and told the young man to go and do the nation proud at whichever club he finally chooses to settle down with.” Keshi acknowledged that Iheanacho is a talented player but also cautioned that the player should be handled gently and professionally as he navigates his professional career. The player’s transfer has been one of controversies since he made the headlines at the FIFA competition. It started with several people stepping up as agents for the player and then it was followed by different price tags placed on him. The choice of European club to join soon became a thorny issue between the player and his father such that the player left home unceremoniously with the father allegedly declaring him missing. But apart from the Iheanacho move, the Eagles also trained on Monday. The national team cancelled their second Monday training session after it appeared that the close to three hours morning training session may have taken its toll on the players. “We have to be cautious not to push the players too hard so that nobody will break down,” Keshi said. There’s a pool in Israel in the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem, called Pool of Bethesda, that is associated with healing. In Nigeria, rumours of mystical/divine healing waters have been circulated ever since the news of the river in Nachi, a community in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, became viral on the Internet. Already named ‘Orimiri Jordan’ [River Jordan], it has become a pilgrimage centre of sorts, playing host to people from all parts of the country.

A wedding dress speaks volumes about the bride and her sense of style. While most brides wear the traditional white fluffy gown, others choose colored gowns or something else that makes them unique. One city came up with an attention grabber, a gown made entirely of condoms with a fitted bodice and flowing train. Shoalhaven City Council in Australia, displayed the gown made of condoms, in an exhibit at the council’s Entertainment Centre, with the aim of creating awareness about condom their use after an increase in rates of chlamydia. In the past six months, the region has seen an increase of sexually transmitted diseases, with a 75 percent increase in women and 61 percent increase in men. The council is trying to solve a real problem and ensure the health of the local community. They want to draw more attention and discussions to the issue of STDs and the importance of safe sex practices. http://www.yourjewishnews.com/2013/06/w7234.html

Though everything is in God’s hand but I can assure you that we are in a serious relationship’ Speaking further about his daughter and why he is still single, he said “I had my first child when I was 23 and by the time she was born, a lot of people thought I was not serious then. Thank God that she is 23 now while I will be 46 on November 26. The girl is now my friend and confidant. I have been married once but it did not work. Mind you marriage is a life time contract, so I don’t want to rush into it. But I can assure you I will definitely move into my new house with a wife soon.” - See more at: http://www.9janinja.com/2013/12/fuji-artiste-pasuma-set-to-marry-yoruba.html#sthash.GUD59wdx.dpuf

Is this REALLY time to take a selfie, Dave? Obama and Cameron strike a pose with Danish PM during Mandela's memorial service (but doesn't Michelle look unimpressed?) why did she had to switch sit? Do you think Obama is a flirter?

The last may not have been heard of the comrade governor and the poor widow. Remember what happened with the NSCDC Commandant (Oga At The Top) this year when we had T-shirts of his popular quote? The 'Go and Die' t-shirt which has gone on sale in Edo State and other parts of the country has the silhouettes of Oshiomole and the widow, Joy Ifije depicted on it along with the now famous quote 'Go And Die'. This is despite the apology by the governor to the widow and the people of Edo State. I guess the comrade governor made a mistake that will keep haunting him. What a pity! ![]()

Incredible Footage Of How Nigerian Man Who Survived 3 Days At The Bottom Of Atlantic Ocean Was Rescued The Jascon 4 tug capsized on May 26, 2013 in Atlantic Ocean with only one survivor from 12 people on board. Now, six months on from the accident, incredible footage has emerged this week showing the moment the ship's cook was rescued from an air bubble on the ship, three days after the ship capsized. Harrison Odjegba Okene after being rescued said he kept reciting the last psalm his wife had sent by text message to him before the boat capsized. "Oh God, by your name, save me. ... The Lord sustained my life", he said. His family had earlier been informed that no one survived. Okene believed he was only saved by God. He lived on a bottle of coke for the three days . <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/9dG5KSD-8J4?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> http://www.vosquare..com/2013/12/how-nigerian-man-who-survived-3-days-at.html#.Up78VbTusqM |
