Frontline presidential aspirant and the National leader of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has distanced himself from a viral text message aimed at party’s delegate purportedly from him alleging that he intends to pick a fellow Muslim as his running mate if he emerges as APC’s 2023 presidential candidate.

Tinubu, who said that the message is nothing but a lie and has no basis, enjoined the distinguished delegates to ignore the message completely.

This disclosure is contained in a statement issued by Tinubu’s media office and can be seen on his official Twitter account.

Tinubu in the statement described the text message as fake and a ploy by some undemocratic elements to confuse and hoodwink delegates sensing that he is comfortably coasting home to victory.

What Bola Tinubu is saying
The statement from Tinubu reads, “We have been informed of a text message going round APC delegates at Eagle Square, Abuja purportedly from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming that with his imminent victory at the APC Presidential Primary and emergence as the party’s presidential candidate, the APC leader has now decided on a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

-This is nothing but a lie. It has no basis whatsoever. We enjoin the distinguished delegates to ignore this completely.
-“The fake text message is a ploy by some undemocratic elements to confuse and hoodwink delegates sensing that Asíwájú Tinubu is comfortably coasting home to victory.
-“Truth is Asíwájú is destined for victory and no one can scuttle this through their shameful tactics.
-“Asíwájú is not known to jumping guns. He will deal with all important matters pertaining to his presidential pair at the appropriate time, after his victory has been fully established by the distinguished delegates.”
What you should know
The ruling APC’s national convention to choose the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general election is currently ongoing with the voting ending and final collation and counting of votes going on.
At least 7 aspirants have so far stepped down and backed Tinubu to pick the APC ticket at the party’s presidential primary with the results expected to be announced within the next couple of hours.

A group, the Arewa Youths Progressive Alliance, has dissociated itself from a comment credited to the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, that voters from the North would only vote for the region’s presidential candidates.

But the spokesman for the group, Alhaji Sambo Galadima, noted that “the North is neither anti-progress nor xenophobic against other Nigerians.”

In a statement released in Kaduna on Thursday, Galadima said that the impression created by the former Governor of Kano State was not only disrespectful to the region but also misrepresented the true characters of an average northern voter.

Picking holes in the assertion by the NNPP presidential candidate who spoke on Channels TV, the spokesman noted that Kwankwaso’s utterances portrayed the North as retrogressive.

“Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s utterances portray the North as retrogressive and the average northern voter as insensitive and unconcerned about the sufferings of Nigerians and the high rate of insecurity and economic woes bedevilling Nigeria, and rather concerned about having ‘fellow northerner and fellow Muslim’ perpetuate themselves in power.

“Nothing can be farther from the truth. The northerner experiences the same level of frustration with the state of governance in the country that the average Nigerian from any part of Nigeria experiences and wishes like every Nigerian that things improve for the better and that the most capable and most prepared individuals take charge of governance at different levels, including the presidency of the country, for the betterment of Nigeria,” he said.

He further argued that the North had never been immune to the various troubles bedevilling the country.
“Has the North fared any better in infrastructure or living standards merely because a Northerner or a Muslim is the President of the country?

“The former governor of Kano State insults the North by portraying us as some insensitive group of people without the capacity to think for ourselves. This is not true. He sends the impression out there that our votes are owned by some elites and that it is these elites who will decide how we will vote in every election.

“If that was true in the past, that is set to change, because we are not slaves. We are capable of dreaming and holding strongly to our dreams. We are capable of working for and participating actively in political activities, independently and with the aim of bringing about the kind of government that shall serve the best interest of the average Nigerian.

“In the last seven years, more than 100,000 Northerners have been killed by bandits and terrorists, and thousands of our daughters, wives, mothers and sisters have either been raped, abducted or forcefully married out.

“Our farms are lying fallow and our harvests haven’t been poorer. Yet, a Northerner is the President. We voted for this Northerner, not because he is a Northerner, but because we believed he had the best of intentions and had the capacity to turn things around for good, for the benefit of all Nigerians. But, we are disappointed,” he stated.

Galadima then assured Nigerians that the North would vote in line with what they considered the best for Nigeria at this time and in the future.

“We want to assure fellow Nigerians that Northern Nigeria is not some kind of slave colony where some elites drag us by the neck to vote on the basis of sectionalism or religion. We shall vote for the best candidates who hold the best promise to recharge Nigeria and get her working again, because, like every responsible citizen, we want the best interest of our country and we want a brighter future for our children,” he added.

I recall having this conversation with my wife during the week when the case of Sen. Ike Ekweremadu came up and I was completely in an incandescent shock that this man actually has a bed ridden daughter yet has been all over the place attending political meetings for his political ambition instead of taking time out to sort out this his daughter's pressing health needs

He was all over the place during the PDP primaries, he lost the PDP gubernatorial primaries for Enugu state then started planning to decamp to APGA, then APC and was even taken to APC national Chairman by HE Uzodinma when APC stalwarts in Enugu APC,led by their state Chairman, outrightly rejected him. He is not returning to the Senate as well. Eventually, he lost on all the political fronts.

Sen. Ike Ekweremadu was all over the place so much that he did not follow through on the health and lifestyle choices of his children.

He did not follow through on what I believe is more important than his political ambition; the life of his daughter and a family at the low ebb of the apprehension of losing a child to kidney failure.

Ike Ekeremadu was so consumed by his political ambition that he had no time and seriousness to do due diligence and background check on the character they got him as a donor for his daughter , I doubt if with his PhD, he even had the time to follow through and read up to ask the right questions from the professionals, understand the risks and benefits of why it could be better for one member of his family of 6 to donate to the daughter instead of a stranger and seek help to find out if there are some of the tests which can be done on the stranger here in Nigeria before bundling a total stranger overseas.

He was so consumed by politics that when the 22-year old donor went rogue and was allegedly scheming behind him to deny his age and report Ike and family to UK police, it probably escaped his detection and intervention soon enough so he can be the first to report to UK police and then return the donor to Nigeria for him to immediately restart the process of getting alternative donor(s) for his ailing daughter whose life was more important to him.

He forgot that he was first a father and husband before becoming a Senator,Deputy Senate President and SSG.
He forgot that he will finish as a father and husband.

I compared him to Biden and I believe that he could have followed the Biden example. Then V.P Biden had a dying son in 2017 and had the opportunity to contest against Trump for the US Presidency but stepped down to support his dying son.

Biden was to sell his family house before Barack Obama intervened and offered to pay for the treatment. Biden's boy made his Dad promise him that no matter what happens, Biden must not give up his life long ambition to be US President, Biden's boy later died. Biden grieved without the guilt of abandoning his son for his political ambition.

In 2021, years after his son had passed, Biden contested and won. There are many Nigerian politicians who will do like Biden but not like Ike.

Family is so important that we even need the approval of a sick dying one before we place anything above their life

That is the lesson Ike missed and about to lose from both ends as his wife who takes care of the daughter remains in prison until July 7.

Last two weeks was Father's Day and I really truly hope that fathers used that day to reflect and understand the real responsibility of fatherhood. It is the hardest job for a man but it gives the greatest reward if you do your best at it.

As a father , I have realized that it is not possible to outsource that role of a father and not pay heavy fines.

May God heal that Ike Ekweremadu's daughter and may God help the Ike Ekweremadu in this their difficult time. I know it is a difficult place for them May God help all fathers to realise that "your child is your responsibility".

That you pay all the bills and have a devoted and responsible wife/mother of your child won't still make up for your negligence.

Your child is your responsibility and not even your ambition can replace what you will miss if you neglect your role in the life of your child.
Do not be like Senator Ike Ekeremadu who was literally chasing rats around the house when his house was on fire.

May God help us all to succeed and may our children not develop kidney failure( Amin). May our labour of love and sacrifice be rewarded in our life time and when we are long gone(Amin).
