F1 visa is actually $360 of two payments and not $160 Make God help us big time |

femi321: You guys have twisted the whole point of the argument. Are we fighting the visa fee or our government fx policies because I dont understand at all. US embassy is independent and at such, its not our place to force an exchange rate on them, for a start why are their citizens not fighting the $210 we charge them for Nigeria visa fee when they charge us $160? They can as well start charging us $210 and lets see whether its not the grass that will suffer.Lets separate the cbn bad policies from this issue please. If you ask me, creating too much awareness about this may result in what will not benefit the common man in Nigeria. No one twisted the whole point because the main argument was all about exchange rate and not visa fee but some people here are talking about visa fee I believe they don't even read those posts at all which is not the main event. Am even surprise to see some people here accepting the fact that the exchange rate used is acceptable when it is above official ate and BDC rate because they forgot the bilateral deal or agreement between the two countries and I don't think the deal stated one country can use rate above official and BDC rate during conversion to their currency. |

Chapecoense: Now walspring my question is, if There is a chance they will reduce the rate, can this be done since many ppl may have already paid the N64k. Wont it be unfair to the applicants if all of a sudden they take it back to N54k? Secondly, Didn't they do consulatuons with CBN and other stake holders before they set this new rate? Lastly there is a contradiction here on the part of the VOs. Visa officer here said the rate was set by the bank. On the other thread, AbujaNIV said they were the ones that set the rate. Me aff tire. Life itself is not fair and I have never read any book that says life will be fair to people even the bible didn't say life will be fair when he talked about wickedness in the highest places. By now you should understand that exchange rate is not stable and visa fee can go up or down. It can only go down if FG/CBN bring the rate to 200 per $1 and BDC is 10 naira above official rate which I don't think will happen in the next 2 years Just expect the unexpected after 12th of May. If I am not wrong there was no contradiction Visa fee was set by US embassy while exchange rate was set by the bank in collaboration with the embassy. |

LagosismyHome: Hello VO
Thanks for taking the point to clarify and you raised a good point in no 2. I checked the rates used by the bank as of friday and none is more than 380 naira to 1 usd. Also the black market is currently 385. ...... The US embassy rate of 400 is above what Nigeria banking institutions are charging. ..
if this is caused by Nigeria officials then i guess there is a need to use the media to check who so ever set that rate Can you imagine our own official at the banks using us to do business. These same set of people will still get dollars at official rate from CBN and sell it to people at BDC rate. They are collecting from Paul to enrich themselves and people loosing money to them but they don't want people to lose money to MMM saying its a scam as if they ain't scamming people back door.. |

VisaOfficer: A point about the visa fee charged:
All U.S. missions (all Embassies and Consulates around the world) use reciprocity when charging visa fees. It is a negotiated fee between the two governments. This fee is almost always the same fee that is charged to U.S. citizens who wish to get a visa to that country. In rare cases, such as with Nigeria, the fees differ. With regard to Nigeria, the United States charges less for a U.S. visa ($160) than the Nigerian government charges U.S. citizens ($210).
Regards, VO Thanks for this.. Kudos! |

femi321: In my opinion what they are raising awareness for doesn't make sense, Nigeria charge US citizens about $210 for visa fee while they charge us $160, if they use the rate of #400/$, it is still less than when they charge us the equivalent of $210 at #385/$. This awareness might result in them charging us the normal $210 and I am sure no one will be able to say anything them Let's get things straight here, they owns the dollar which is their currency while we owns the naira which is our currency, if they charged $210 there won't be issue as long as CBN and FG stopped using the citizen to do business. FG/ CBN should please abolish BDC or suppress BDC to difference of below 10 to official rate which i believe they can do but they don't want to do it since they are using us to do business as usual and exchange rate will be below 200 as official rate.. |

LagosismyHome: using 198 as directed by CBN. I should complain about it
Are they not governed by CBN so if they are using the rate as directed. Why should anyone complain...... Is that a favour done or what they are expected to do..... na wa. That why people get away with anything in naija . When you expect them to use market rate and go against CBN directive You have time to argue with justwise, we are talking about exchange rate higher than CBN and BDC rate and he is talking about fee between each country when he realized that you made a valid point and he didn't want to agree with you, he twisted it back to exchange rate and asked why didn't you complain when it was on official rate but he forgot that the main topic for the discussion was rate and not fee but later reversed back to it coded. I don talk my own and I go still talk am if our government is not using us to do business this can't occur. I don't blamed them because majority of them don't have foundational knowledge of the post they are holding since they all read bus admin, bus management, marketing business and all related to business as diploma and degree.. |

fredoricko: Those dates are a function of when the rates will next be revised. I observed that few days to this revision of their rate that is when FG or CBN will bring new policy for exchange rate and visa fee always increased. I assumed US embassy wanted to recover their lost money back since they sold visa fee at 54,400 for weeks when BDC rate was 450 plus. |

OGreene: Supported!!! We can even come together and use the power of social media. We have the number (population). Posting on fb and tweeting
Another thing, is it GTB or the Embassy that sets the rate? How does it work sef? Hmmmm.. Well you are right but let's reason and find the source of this because I believe CBN gave out official rate to embassies but some people somewhere or the banks are using it for business. I also noticed that few weeks or months to the expiring date of the exchange rate the US consulate posted on the website that the exchange rate will expire that's when CBN bring out new policy about exchange rate and visa fee will go up as well.. The million dollar questions are; 1, Why can't FG or CBN abolish BDC? 2, Why can't FG or CBN give official rate to foreign missions and embassies since FG have bilateral trade deals with US and other countries? 3, why can't FG or CBN make sure the difference between officiate rate and BDC is less than #10 that is was 3 years ago? |

Tunnyz7: It's a pure shame... These people are cheating us in our own country and the government is looking the other way. Awful Point of correction, it is your government using you to do business and not them cheating you.. If the government is not using their citizen to do business then no one will cheat the citizens |

pandamonium: Good evening gurus and experienced pros in the house. Pls there are somethings that have been bothering me for some time and I need clarification on them: 1. I had a really low GPA : 2.60/5.0. However, my latter days in school were much better that the former. When WES is evaluating a transcript, do they use the full academic transcript or do they use from 3rd year or 4th year in a 5year program? 2. I have already applied to a school with a rolling admission but they insist on me providing document of financial support before I'm given admission. Is this abnormal
Please, anyone who has an answer to these questions should pls not hesitate to respond.

LagosismyHome: Visa fee is $160 ..... so at 54000k they were using 337.50 which is still high compared to official rate
Now US embassy is using 400 naira times $160 making it 64,000 naira .
Does anyone know how they make formal complain in Nigeria......i definitely want to join the complain.... This is not right and i think bloggers and others should complain so that they can review and use official rate I wish a formal complain will be listened to. In a country where we have majority of our upper house and lower chamber studied business administration, marketing and anything related to such course then the lives of the citizens are used for business as usual because all what they will think daily is how to get more money out of the tax payer account or crude oil account to enrich themselves and they don't have time to put the country in order by sanctioning all these stuffs.. |

fredoricko: Lol. It doesn't always work like that. I always never imagined that the cost would rise giving that the Naira is continually gaining but it did. So come 12th the fee may either fall or rise again. One cannot really tell. But I guess it's time we stood for what we believe to be right. If only no one will pay that outrageous amount, then they'll have no option than to revise the fee. But even if you and I do not pay, there are a thousand visa hungry people who're ready to pay 200k for appointment. We should not be deceived because it will go up.. I can't imagine US embassy operating on BDC rate and I tagged it as scamming of the highest order with the help of either CBN or GTBank because all the foreign missionaries or embassy gets CBN rate and not BDC rate.. |
