slimmy2005: Hey, I met Tayo two days back in Junction City, KS. I landed Manhattan, KS, turned my phone from flight mode and got his text. I was surprised to know how he got the feeling I was in his city. It was nice meeting him. He told me about it because i sent him message and it took him longer to reply me back and said to me that you came around. |

Capitas7: Good day everyone. I have been perusing this thread, and having learnt a lot of important tips from many selfless contributors, I have a few questions yet unanswered from the few pages I read. I am awaiting my I-20, expected to arrive this new week.
1. How reliable and efficient is the SEVIS fee payment through Western Union? I see everyone ignoring this option, and seeking help. why please?
2. How official must the filling if DS-160 form be? Especially with regards the passport photograph. Can a random passport be used, because the samples I have seen, people dressed corporate
3. With my passport with which I sent info across to my school for I-20 documentation expiring Nov 2017, should I go ahead with interview appointment this week, or I should renew first?
4. Must the admission letter and letter of tuition waiver offer to be taken along for the interview be the original letterhead from the school, or I can print the softcopies sent to me for this purpose?
Please don't mind my funny questions. Thank you as I await answers from all who can help. All contributions will be educative. My admission is for Fall 2017.
cc Lagosismyhome, Imperiouxx, Walspring 1. No one is ignoring western union because that's what people helping to make payment have been using and payment will reflect less than 30 minutes or an hour after payment. 2. A random passport photograph can not be used because it has specification and size, It is not compulsory for you to dress cooperate what matter most in the passport photograph is for your face to show clearly then no shadow, with its actual size requirement which are very important things to be considered when taking the passport photograph 3. I suggest you renew your passport before going for interview because by June next month since it will be six months or less than six months old 4. Yes and any amount waived for you will also be written on your I20 as well. The school will/can send original copy included with your I20 or you print the one in your email in colored. |

Kingbukaz: Thanks alot Walspring for taking out time to answer my question. Please, why do you Suggest GRE? In place of ielts?
What scores should I aim to have Better chance of getting scholarship or GA? Let's give the thanks to God GRE is graduate record examination for those who are going for msc degree and also want free fall money from their school of choice because it is used to determine scholarship Ielts means International English Language Testing System and it's used to know if applicant is proficient enough in English language especially for those whose first language is not English and can be used together with GRE to get funding specifically for those who want to lecture student as their job in the school I just hope you grab it better the way I explained it |

mecigr8s: Firstly, I want to appreciate the Almighty GOD for giving an individual, Seun Osewa, a thought to create an informative forum like this,Nairaland. My big thank you also goes to GUNTHER6 for opening my eyes to the schooling opportunities in the U.S. I never knew until I met him ,through Nairaland. We later met at Iyana-Ipaja in July last year when he was ito help me with a GRE voucher. Actually, I wanted to write the GRE in order to meet up with the requirement of FH Aachen, a university in Germany. I had the intention of schooling in Germany before GUNTHER6 made me to understand I could spend less , in U.S, if offered a Graduate Assistantship with a monthly stipend. Immediately I heard this, I started conducting a research about schools in the US, their admission requirements and how to go about funding. Fast forward to today, I got to the embassy at about 6:10am, kept my bag with a lady towards the entrance of the gate for a fee of #1000( I was actually prepared for it). She helped me with the correct arrangement of documents and told me to join the queue. Security checks took place and documents were inspected; with a barcode glued to the back of my passport. Inside the interview room , biometric documentation was done and I later joined the queue for the interview. I must confess that the processes and procedures before the interview were very thorough. Here goes the conversation between the Visa Officer ( a lady in window 7) and I: VO: Good morning (with smiles) ME: Good morning ( I smiled back at her) VO: Please, pass me your I-20 and passport ME: Here they are. VO: So, you are going to Middle Tennessee State University? ME: Yes, madam. VO: What other schools did you apply to? ME: I applied to three other schools and got admitted in all the schools. VO: Really? So, why this particular one( referring to Middle Tennessee State University)? ME: One of my career mentors, Engr. Ad…. , who is also the Factory Engineer of “Blank” Nigeria PLC, where I work as an Industrial Technician, strongly recommended the school for me because he is an alumnus of the school and he told me how attending the school has given his career a lift. Besides, MTSU provides experiential learning opportu…..(cuts in..it’s ok) VO: What is your highest qualification? ME: Bachelor of Science in Electrical- Electronics Engineering VO: When did you graduate? ME: 2015 VO: What have you been doing since then? ME: I have been working as an Industrial Technician with “Blanck” Nigeria PLC VO: Tell me, how are you going to fund your studies? ME: I have got a full tuition waiver and a monthly stipend through a Graduate Assistantship awarded to me by my department( VO Checks my I-20 and cuts in….. ) VO: It does not cover all your fees. ME: Yes, the outstanding fee will be taken care of by my dad VO what does he do. ME: I told her. VO: Where are you going to stay when you arrive in US? ME: I have not made any arrangement for now. VO: Okay, I will be approving your visa………. The truth is I promised myself to listen to those words people here do claim not to hear again upon the approval of their visa, but alas, I fell for this “temporary deafness” as well! I couldn’t hear anything again immediately I sighted her circling a portion of the white paper. All that was in my mind was to grab the white paper together with my I-20 and bounce out(LOL). No document was requested . My observation about this interview thing is that the VOs want to see that you are a genuine student. Again, there should not be any discrepancy in the information filled in DS-160 and your response. Confidence, eye contact ,being able to express oneself well are all very important .The very few seconds of interaction ,at times, could be key in determining what the outcome will be. My appreciation goes to all the contributors in this thread.I may not be able to mention all the monikers here but thanks to Lagosimyhome,Walspring,Femi32,Texrem ,Djmakins, the GRE thread contributors… et all. My special regards goes to @ Kenkool, who is now an alumnus of MTSU. He has been there for me during the time of application process and he did play a brotherly role through the relevant information he gave .I will not forget in a hurry his contributions in ensuring that the departmental Graduate Assistantship position did not elude me. For those who may need this information, I will be doing my Master’s in Engineering Technology and here goes my profile( not in any way stellar): ND, HND and B.Sc ( all in Electrical-Electronics Engineering with an overall GPA of 3.50/4.0 after an official WES evaluation). GRE score is 301( Q 152, Verb 149, AWA 3.5) after I wrote it again; while I had a score of 87 in my TOEFL . Please, pardon me; an epistle it is! Congrats and enjoy your stay over there Welcome on board |

sshola: Thank you bro...I was I my asking because I haven't seen a transcript a bot lecturing, so I was wondering if it isn't a great thing to disclose...because I have a very strong passion for Mathematics. Let's give the thanks to God There was a guy back then who went and dropped his transcript and he studied mathematics, a lecturer or graduate of Lasu. I think he is going for msc or phd in mathematics and he was granted visa. The VO asked him about one simple mathematical rule if I am not wrong but he dropped his transcript but I can't remember the part but it should be between part 6 to part 8 |

freslinkz: Alternatively, after filing a new DS-160, copy the unique code and return to the appointment booking page. On the page, go to update info or data.... you will see where to erase the former code and input the recent one. After doing this, return to print confirmation and you wil see it updated.
All the best bro/sis You are right but the method is no longer working for over 2 years now and I don't know if they have enable it back or you did or someone did it recently that you are aware off. |

I have a BSC in maths education and I have been admitted to study Ms mathematics. My aim of studying is to become a lecturer and consultant in the field of analysis ( Complex and Data analysis). Will it be a very strong point to tell the VO that I aspire to be a lecturer and that is why I am studying further? Or I should just base my point on just analysis? Pls critique and feed back. Thanks... I will advise you to market yourself well because that is what can do it ooo |
