Miss Universe owner Anne Jakrajutatip, also known as Anne JKN, has been inundated with calls from the public to name South Africa’s Bonang Matheba as the pageant’s 2024 host.

The grand finale will be held in Mexico on 16 November. Over 130 countries will participate.

Bonang, who hosted the Miss SA finale in August, has previously been nominated by the public to head the biggest international beauty competition.

This week, Anne JKN asked her X followers who they believed would be crowned the new Miss Universe 2024 next month.

In 2022, Steve Harvey parted ways as host of the Miss Universe pageant after five consecutive years.

The actor and entertainer was reportedly given the boot after the pageant moved to the streaming service Roku. According to Variety, the new channel wanted new, fresh blood – and, in particular, a female to helm the show.

Last year, new hosts were revealed: former Miss USA and Miss Universe Olivia Culpo and TV host Jeannie Mai.

The concert, set for 14 December 2024, is part of Brown’s highly anticipated South African tour.
Fans snapped up the tickets as soon as they went live, with excitement building around the American R&B superstar’s return to South African soil.

This level of demand is reminiscent of Justin Bieber’s 2013 performance at the same venue, where tickets also sold out to young fans in mere hours.

However, not all major artists have found the same success in Johannesburg.

Naysayers had drawn comparisons between Brown’s show and the recent controversial Burna Boy concert at FNB Stadium, which struggled with ticket sales and ultimately fell short of filling the venue.

In response to the overwhelming demand, concert organisers Big Concerts have now added a second date.

All tickets for the Chris Brown shows will be 100% digital, mobile-only tickets available through verified Ticketmaster accounts.

Ticket prices range from N56,000 to N470,000.

The latest police report also states that most of the crimes in South Africa are committed by South Africans. Nigerians were not even mentioned cos they were negligible. A lot of South Africans were disappointed and you could see their joy turn to agony cos no Nigerian was mentioned.

How do you begin to arrest undocumented people who fly below the radar? Of course South Africans will fill the jails cause they're easier to track - the govt has their ID details, addresses and biometrics.

While ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba tends to be critical of illegal immigration, with some of his views in the past causing a stir among Africans, he has defended Nigerians after a demeaning viral post on social media labelled them “useless”.

A controversial account on X named Lebona Cabonena posted a video of people walking in a desert, claiming:

“Nigeria gained independence on October 1 1960 from the white Europeans of Britain. Today there are Nigerian men, women and children crossing the Sahara Desert on foot to go into Europe to the white people because Nigerians are useless.”

Mashaba was unhappy about the remarks, saying: “Stop portraying us Africans as barbaric and always destroyers. This makes some of us angry and invokes our experiences of our painful past. Imagine if we start posting images of the barbaric and inhumane manner we were treated during our recent history [apartheid]. Please let’s stop these generalisations and expose our prejudices.”

Speaking to TimesLIVE, Mashaba said he noticed a trend on social media which portrayed Africans as “people who cannot lead”.

“There are accounts on social media that depict us [Africans] as barbaric and corrupt. If we allow this to continue our children and grandchildren will accept what these people portray us to be. This is the same thing that happened during slavery, when we were made to be people who are not capable of doing anything,” he said.

While some debated that African countries were suffering from unemployment and supported the narrative that “Africans cannot lead”, Mashaba said their sentiments were “foolish”.

“You have to be a fool to believe black people cannot lead. The same people who have that mentality have corrupted the ANC in the past 30 years and blame all black people. We are not fools and we will not accept the generalisation. If a black person is corrupt, let it be that person. If a white person is racist, let it be that person. We should not generalise.”

While some in the past deemed his comments about illegal immigration as “instigating xenophobia”, he said he will defend African identity from sweeping prejudices.

“I am a proud, God-created, black man and an African — and when someone attacks another African on the basis of generalisation, I will not defend that. I believe in the rule of law. The people who are suffering all over are not suffering because they want to suffer, including in our country.”

The three men accused of murdering two women and feeding their remains to pigs claim they have been receiving death threats while in custody.

Pig farmer Zachariah Olivier and his co-accused Rudolph de Wet and William Musora were arrested in connection with the murders of Mariah Makgato and Kudzai Ndlovu. The trio are accused of shooting and killing the women before dumping their bodies in a pigsty on Olivier’s farm.

Ahead of their latest court appearance, the three men filed an application to have the media barred from broadcasting the case.

The attorney for de Wet and Musora said that they feared for their lives while in custody. "They are experiencing death threats while in custody due to the continued media footage being displayed of them. It’s really creating a problem for them while in custody," their attorney said.

The application was denied. The case has since been postponed to 6 November for further investigation.

The news of the trio receiving death threats has garnered no sympathy from social media users, who feel they deserve it for what they did.

A Johannesburg man took a unique approach when he penned his resignation letter. While some might consider his method unprofessional, many people online found themselves in agreement with his creative decision.

The man named Emanathi, who uses the handle @nathiradebe0, shared a screenshot of his resignation letter on TikTok. Instead of typing it out and addressing the employer, the man wrote his resignation letter on a piece of toilet paper.

The letter read:

"I have chosen this type of paper for my resignation as a symbol of how this company has treated me. I quit."

Hundreds of TikTok users felt they could relate to the man, supporting his method of telling his employers that he was quitting his job.

The post has been viewed over 1.4 million times.
