veronix: Please my fellow mothers, I nid advice on wat 2 use 4 d rashes on my baby's face and neck. And another thing is that he hasn't pooped for 7 days now and I don't know wat 2 do. Please advice ooooooo
For me, i use agnesia powder on my kids rashes.
and for pooping if he shows no sign of constipation just be patient he will poop. but if he seem like he wants to poop but is unable to and is passing really smelly gas frequently (check for inflated and hard scrotum), then he is clearly constipated and may need help getting it out.
just dip ur cotton(ear) bud into vaseline, or baby mentholatum and insert into his anus and circle like 3 to 5 times. then assume pooping position and get ready for ur surprise... lol.

hello tj, pls do share when you get answers, I am very interested too. I was on the injectable contra until my second miracle happened when my first was barely 8mons.so I am not towing dat line again. A friend told me abt this method, but she started using it a few weeks ago, so I am a bit skeptical. I would like to know if there is any one here who has used it for up to a year and is working well for her.

itsmelex: ^^^ no be lie! grin grin same village oh!!! lol@ 7for girls 9for boys.lol. The massaging is very important for me! Mum do say because they'v not learnt hw to turn conveniently, they tend to hav body aches from sleeping long on a position and also additional fat can make the nerves tight so U loosen it by massaging and give room for easy expansion and added fat. Sometime if my boy becomes over active and refuses to sleep early, even till 12midnit, I'll just grab him and give him a relaxing massage and everybody can sleep in peace. aba!.. but I do the thing the way am comfortable with oh.lol....thinking of it now makes me laugh!

Kudos to elderly mum!(tho thier theories can irritate me oh...imagine one talking of using grinded tortoise shell for babies head. WHAT?!!!wer U go see am? U want the baby head to resemble tortoise? grin grin grin )
hahaha.. Grinded tortoise shell ke? Ur mama na jazz woman? She's so funny!
God bless our mothers jare!

Very true! Truthfully I forgot this, maybe as I am not used to the colic word. Yes, I'v always known navel disturbs babies real good! My mum also emphasised the use of mentholetum, I remember refusing initially bc Pead said not apply anytin. I couldnt help it once when I couldnt figure out the cause of my boy's continous crying(and stretching pushing up his tummy)and as soon as I applied it the crying stopped and he slept. I did consistently till 5months oh(if not more self)

Wafibabe, do U know the amusing thing? mum said while applying the mentholetum, they normally put a finger around the.navel and apply in anti-clockwise direction for boys and clockwise for girls grin grin grin wetin concern me wit direction....elderly people's ideas can be very funny grin.

grin your mum and mine must be from the same village.. The things all these elderly women make us do ehn? When i just newly had my present baby, he was very pale looking, and couldn't latch on to my boobz nor pass out the mecomium for 2 days, my gynae could not figure out what was wrong so he suggested calling a paed. As soon as he left my mumsy just went to the pharmacy and bought glucose. We applied little to warm water and fed him with it. Before 1hr sef he started passing out the greenish stuff. By evening he was boobilizing.
When he was around 3 weeks old, we discovered his has little jaundice and we started the glucose water which my paed didn't object to. Then my mum just went to the market and bought lemon grass and scent leaves, and pepper soup spices. she said 9 long spices for boy and 7 long spices for girls (whatever that means I still don't know). We boiled all in a kettle which became his bath water for 1 week. Believe me, my son whom I thought has a light skin turn to brown like him papa own.. Lol!.. And every thing cleared, him eyes come dey over white like torch...

Now about the colic thing, I read that the oyinbo ppl could not figure out why their babies wouldn't stop crying, they decided to call it colic. Wetin be COLIC? It aint got a thing on my children cus I massage their navels (very important), massage their shoulders (due to carry carry), their backs, I EBF with water (its me o! Pls don't quote me). They sleep very fine and me sef I get my peace of mind.

Pls I beg u 2 take her 2 d hospital immediately, purging n loosing weight cud lead 2 dehydration n its not a gud thing so keep on breastfeeding her and dont take anything sugary including milo.Make sure u carry along her fresh poo 2 d hospital for them 2 test it,it cud be an infection.I know its not easy d lord is ur strength
To add to this contribution, pls get ORS (I use oral cossy) and use a pack to a litre of cooled boiled water or bottled water. Try to give her as much as you can until the stooling subsides. This is for her recover any lost electrolytes so she doesn't become weak.
And pls take her to ur paed fast!.

sasi_malia: Hello ladies!

How are you all? I have been on NL for a few years. I struggled with infertility and was in the PCOS and trying to conceive thread. Thank God who is so faithful, I just recently gave birth to my first baby, a boy who is now 6 weeks.

It's been great sofar, not as challenging as I thought it would be and we (hubby and I) have adjusted very well. The only problem is the colics. It's not as bad as a few weeks ago when he would cry and cry at night, now he mostly grunts (very loudly) and stretches and moans a little bit when he is crampy which is mostly when he sleeps. What can I do?
I have tried gripe water, doesnt work. I had been told abt bitter kola nut (grind it, soak it in a little bit of water and give it to the baby and he will poo alot and it will stop) but didnt want to do it (i hate the taste myself) plus I wanted to read about it first but of course3 I didnt find any info about it since its more like a traditional remedy. At wits end I did it yesterday, I gave about 10ml (2 teaspoons or a little over half a tablespoon) of the kola nut water around 11pm yesterday but nothing sofar. Baby does poo a few times a day, sometimes a lot, sometimes just a little and sometimes stringy and seedy. I breastfeed exclusively but no particular changes and he still grunts, moans and stretches from the tummy discomfort.
Please share what has worked for you if anything. I know its not that big of a deal and it will overgrow it but its still painful to see him like that. However for the first time since he was born he slept from 1am until now (its noon
and he is still sleeping, and woke up only at 6am and 9am to feed) so that comforts me.
hello mum.. I know some peeps think it is not necessary but have you tried massaging his navel with hot water?(Not burning hot o!) My older son was that way until my mum pointed out that their navels takes time to close up and heal after the cord has fallen off, that I was suppose to massage and use the baby mentholata till three months. I did that to my son and the whole crying, wriggling, grunting everything stopped. With my newborn I am still doing it and it is working fine for me.
It is well with us o!

Pls skip d hydrocort cream part ok? (4d sake of critics) Eventhough I added it 2my concussion cos I knw d ori too is a natural antidote&enhances d effect.Somtyms, wen I ignore d bum rash,it'l develop 2in2 a wound eventhough I use blue-seal vaseline on her bum b4 wearin her diaper. My baby's nanny can watch African magic wit her mind, body&soul&allow d baby 2wear one diaper til God knws wen eventhough I tel her 2b puttin pant alone durin d day. That's wot brings abt d bum rash.Inshort eh!!
thanks but I am not new to the hydrocortisone cream.. As a matter of fact I have used the hydrocort cream before when my older son had severe rash due to allergies. It was prescribed by my paed. It cleared the rash in no time. I really don't know how strong it is cus I neva asked my paed. But my son seem fine with it, though like blank pointed out, I also use it sparingly. For nappy rash I have always used a small cream called vegas, or I just powder the spot with agnesia powder.

I realy feel for her oh. You have a point there oh! Even though my baby's pead makes jest of our(hubby and I) coming too often, I dont mind oh! I just laugh and tell her that thats why they are there and afterall she is not doing it for free. She even laughed one night when we went at 2am bc of cough.lol. funny now but I gues they will still say why didnt U come earlier God forbid.

I have said on this thread befor that I dnt think we are Doctors or medical personel just mothers with some form of experience, and even if we are, we cant well examine your child online, so that should be put into real consideration...

May God console her and give her double for her trouble.

Wendy80: Somthn happened I̶̲̥̅̊n my estate last night, a lady lost her 3weeks old baby. The baby has bn stooling for 3days and instead of seeking medical help, the lady prefered 2call mothers with newborn 2ask what 2give 2her child. A Moda asked 2giv Jelosi and flagyl or somthn like that sha. 2days after the baby was stl down n very pale dats whn she decided 2go 2 †ЂΞ hospital. Long story cut short, the child died. The cause of stooling was discovered to be Jaundice.
Lesson 2be learnt here is wha is wrong with ur child might not be same wth anoda child even if dey exhibit same symptom.we are all here 4 one anoda but pls let's try as much as possible not 2giv drug prescription.
The Moda whu Prescribed jelosi n flagyl is feelin so bad now but she said dats wht she gives 2her kids.
I feel sorry for the mum who lost her kid, but why didn't she call her pead' first? and who gives a new born flagyl?. Na wa o!.. So sad.

blank:

What you described was my son to a tee. He was so naughty then though he has calmed down and learnt a new form of naughtiness. First of all, if you can get someone to help you with the two, accept the help.

Next, try carrot and stick method. When you talk to him try and not shout or show that you are angry. Talk as if you are reasoning with him. Tell him he is being naughty and if he continues, he won't have ".....". And make sure you follow thru. Don't worry about him not understanding, he will. If he does something you like, make a big deal of it and praise him well. Don't give "gifts" or "rewards". It will worsen your condition. I am speaking from experience.

Be firm always. Tell him what behaviours are acceptable or not. Encourage him to play nice by always stating the consequences and following thru.

If you are a Christian, always pray for him and speak only good of him. My dear, this will soon pass. As he grows older, he will move from all these pinching, biting to other annoying things. Just hold firm and try not to get frustrated with him. If you feel yourself about to loose it, distract him with a game while you compose yourself.

The most important thing is to spend quality time with him. Time when he is not sharing you with any other person but has your undivided attention. You will notice that during such times, annoying behaviour will be very low. Sorry for typos.
thanks blank. Will try your method too.

Hi all!.. I just stumbled on this thread, and will like to join you guys. I am a mum of two kids (boys) age 19 months and 2 months. Being a mum is a very wonderful experience though sometimes you just want to ram your head through the nearest wall. It would be nice to learn from other mummy's here especially those with children under 2 years how they are able handle their home front, and would also love to contribute in any way I can.
Thanks.

Family / Re: Your Experience During Childbirth In Nigeria by Warfibabe(f): 4:38am On Jul 06, 2013
My first son was an emergency CS, we couldn't get him out after 36 hours of labor- 7 hours after my water broke. He was getting distressed plus he had his cord wrapped around his neck. I was given a general anaesthesia that didn't completely put me under, so you can imagine how horrible it felt to know that you were being 'sliced'. I screamed in pains and the doctor has to give another dose which completely put me under. A few minutes later my son was brought out.

Now with all the trauma i felt postbirth, I even started singing to my husband that we should wait at least after 3yrs before trying for another child I 'accidentally' got preggy when he was 8 months old. The first few weeks it was mixed feelings for me- sadness, anger (particularly at my husband for no reason, and our doc for prescribing a family planning method that obviously didn't work), fear, then anxiety. Surprisingly the pregnancy was relatively easier than my first!. With my first I had the worst morning sickness in history! Followed by placenta previa, then preterm labor 2ce and finally fibroid! I actually spent more time in the hospital than my house. With this one I felt nothing! No morning sickness of any kind, no previa, I even felt like I was bursting with some new kind of energy.
Delivery time, we opted for an elective surgery, and I was given a spinal block (double block actually cus the first one didn't work). It felt wonderful to be wide awake and actually know when my 2nd son was being pulled out!.. Though I was paralysed from my waist down I was able to touch him after he was born before I was taken to my room to sleep. This experience actually dissolved the initial trauma I had about childbearing. I recovered faster and was discharged 4 days later. My son number 2 is 3 weeks old today and I am one heck of a proud momma!..
