MsNas: See, my brother.. please do not be vexed about what I have to say o. I am very sorry in advance. Seeing that you posted this, after you posted this awhile ago means you're indeed in a rut and you need a quick, fast fix.
But truth be told, you got yourself into this situation. You should not have left Nigeria with the intention of studying without at least first semester tuition or funding. That said, what has happened has happened. You need a way out.
1. Did you not know that the tuition at UNO was high? Why did you still chose to transfer to Omaha even after knowing that? That aside, the black/white population in a school should be the least of your problems. I know a female nairalander who went to school in Omaha. NE and graduated from there. You're there to learn and simply to learn. Ignore the racial distribution. You will get used to the cold. Layer up, bundle up and you'll be fine
2. Do you have any hopes of paying your fees at UNO before transferring next semester? This I say because UNO will not release your SEVIS record for transfer until all outstanding tuition is paid. Did you talk to your graduate adviser at UNO and explain your situation to him? He might be able to find you a GA after one semester, if not this one. Explore all your avenues before giving up, bro
3. There are plenty of schools who will give funding for your course. You're studying IT/IS, funding opportunities abound. Trick is to start applications now, but you have to decide if you're gonna be applying as a fresh graduate international student or wait until after one semester of study at UNO and have grades transfer. If your grades from Nigeria (undergraduate GPA, GRE and TOEFL) aren't that stellar, I will suggest you do your best this semester and at least bag a 4.0 so as to make your search for funding more easy and promising.
4. If you fall out of status, you either have to apply for reinstatement in the US or do a another entry by going to Mexico or Canada and reentering with your new school I-20. Both come with their own set of pros and cons...Choice is your to make. But I tell you, falling out of status is not easy as everything will just tire you.
5. Why are you transferring from MIS to EE? Do you have an EE background? That said, IT jobs are in abundance and it's easier to get sponsorship. But maybe I'm saying that cos I'm an IT person. Who knows? Pls I need you to put me Tru on some IT stuff.. Chk ur pm |

MsNas: Leave him. He will learn. You know how many corporations shut shut me down immediately they heard I'm on F-1? Lmao. I had an interview with Charles Schwab, the interview was going on smothly until the lady asked what my status was. Immediately I said F-1 she just said "We apologize... bla bla bla" and cut the line oo. Did not even give me time to explain. I emailed her back, but maybe she will reply me tomorrow sha.
Another one, I have had like 4 interviews with them, but when the recruiter kept talking about visa status, visa status, I knew I was done for. They kept me hanging for like 2 months before they sent me the rejection email. After I had filled form for background check o. Countless of interviews like that.
Anyways, experience is the best teacher. How are you jare? so does it mean ders no hope for f1 students job aftea school |

Rahmeek: Yeah they pay higher. But not much difference. But what is the difference when you work 1 full month and earn $2000 then you pay $1000 + for studio, pay utility bills and you are left with maybe less or $500-700. You aren't saving and it is not wise. But in a place like texas, you work and earn $2000 or let me say $1500 monthly, you pay $500 for a good looking self contained apartment monthly.pay your utility bills, save the rest .and you have other business opportunities in TX compared to CA that is chilling place what if me and 2 personshare dat studio apt in CA |

Rahmeek: Whereelse?if not the lone star state [TEXAS]. Alot of opportunities there. While California is more of a celebrity/rich peoples state. But if your speciality has to do with computer/ICT, you can try San fransisco bay area [palo alto, los altos, sunnyvale, mountain view] that is the technological capital of the world for now, where google, facebook and so on are but very expensive to live $1000+ for studio monthly. I'm sure de pay more in CA Dats Y it's expensive to live Der.. So Ders a balance.... |

Jchi9876: run for your dear life from these bloody indians who are no good. Customer service is. terrible. no wonder they say awuf dey run belle.
if you wanna do a wire transfer from your account straight to a dorm account in nigeria and have peace of mind just use your account its a flat rate charge of $40.
Western union or money gram no dey do straight deposit to account and Naija banks won't let recipients deposit $$ value in their dorm.
So if you need your naija peeps to have more money for whatever deposit into their dorm they withdraw call abokiii in the streets and shikena.
All these vvirtual people claiming they will do transfer to an account in naija for $3 better i have been a terrible victim (upon how i smart reach) when moneygram or westy's lowest charge depending on amount you sending is abt $12.
Worldremit is scam slow fraudulent. terrible service and glorified money laundering ooooh israel what is dis 1 saying ... for me world remit is very fast reliable and genuine. and its not owned by indians.. i even top airtime or right from my bed ere to friends n family phones back in 9ja and it dont even take more dan 5mins... 400naira mtn recharge is like $2.75.. what i like about dis world remit is dat it gives u flexibility to dash out some certain amount like ($13) 2000naira or 1500naira to friends or family in 9ja..n de will receive it in not less dan 5mins pls dont allow dis jchi guy to discourage u from enjoying d service o...u can google n read d reviews urself ..#peace |

vivyval: Indeed the earth and everything thereof belongs to Almighty God. I joined this thread last year with no prior knowledge, today, see where the Lord has brought me. Indeed those that seek him never lack any good thing, and his time is never late! Ok, yesterday, I realized the mistake I made in my ds160 form, I was momentarily deranged.. I was so afraid.. then I changed my prayers to "God by the blood of Jesus, I cover every error in my application form". Fast forward to this moring 3am, I was just singing all the worship songs I know..I got to the embassy by 6:30am for 6:30am interview.I said at the gate, I must not leave here without the white paper. The hustlers at the embassy no gree I just bone dem pass. After all the long security checks, we entered the decision hall. The lady at window was busy denying students..I didn't allow the number of blue papers issued to deter me. I said another prayer, ' Holy ghost blow me to the person that will approve my visa." Immediately I was asked to go to Window 8; I quickly remembered a guy's testimony about window 8...there and then, I knew God has done it.. VO: goodmoring miss, have a seat, why are you going to America. Me: to pursue a master degree in computer information systems. VO: why this school? Me: aside from its affordability, the school has a well structured curriculum that is practical oriented which aligns to my career goal. Also I got interested in an ongoing research by prof willams wimberly(at this stage, he stopped looking at me and started typing). I paused, and continued..I sent him a mail telling him am interested in the research. VO: which other schools did u apply to? Me: uniofmaryland, northcarolinauniversity, unioftexasataustin and calums. VO: what's your GRE score? Me: it was waived due to my work experience. The man provoke, that's not true,Uof Maryland required gre,(at this stage, he was seriously looking at me) I quickly said, yes that was why they refused to admit me. VO: when did you finish bsc Me: 2010 VO: what have you been doing? ME: working at .... As d IT Manager VO: are you married Me: No, but am engaged VO: any children Me: No VO: have you travelled before? ME: haven't had the need to until now. VO: who is supporting you with this? Me: my Uncle VO: what's his name? Me: xxxxxx VO: what does he do? ME: he owns a security company, imports cctv cameras and installs for banks in Nigeria. VO: looked at me for 30secs, starts typing..... Den the golden words....your is approved. I am grateful to God the owner of the whole universe. To my father in the faith, bsp oyedepo... To DeeTus, guy ,God must change your story this year, this guy painstakingly drilled me set for interview. He kept on calling! landuseact: I don't know exactly what classifies as tight resume, what do you mean by not having experience? do you mean work experience? If you did Youth service then that counts, if you are engaged in extracurricular activities or have been in the past, then put it on your resume. But no matter what you do, don't put something that can't be verified o. Not trying to be racist but Indians do this a lot but you don't need to. I know someone that after doing interview for internship, the company actually called the place she served in Nigeria. They verify lots of stuff here, so you have to be careful. If you want a certification that's cool but it isn't the most important thing in securing internship.
Now if you dont mind me asking what are you studying and if you have seen any open vacancies so far what are the main requirements? msc information technology (management track)...ok i will pm u |

biikeys: Key is start applying as early as possible..for both internships and full-time jobs. For full-time, ideally you want to have at least one offer in hand before you graduate-or things might become tricky with OPT timelines. Brand yourself-highlight your skills on your resume/LinkedIn profile.
The indians you mentioned apply to hundreds and hundreds of openings way before they graduate. Don't limit yourself, especially if you're apply for an entry level position. Connect with recruiters from those companies you apply to on Linkedin too, and drop them a note. Shouldn't be that hard to get something. what if i fake a resume |

I would say the best sites to check are i, but the harsh reality is some companies filter out resumes from applicants from other countries due to that same sponsorship issue. thanks boss.. u really made it clear.i appreciate. one more question is that , does internship application or opt require a tight resume' ? what about those that dont have any experience at al, would companies consider them for internship and opt.?..... is masters degree enough for us employers of labour/ or do i need more certification? |

However if you prefer a hardcopy of your textbook what you can do is to rent used textbooks from sites like chegg.com, barnesandnoble.com, bookrenter.com & campusbookrentals.com. You will need the ISBN number of the textbook you wish to rent. ok thanks boss..i wil try it out |
