yes,according to google satellite,Enugu airport doesn't have a taxiway as is the standard with every Nigerian international airports at Lagos,Abuja,Kano,Kaduna and Port harcourt.
What the construction company did was to construct a link between the new terminal and old terminal which is 1.2km apart. But the taxiway was not extended to reach both ends of the runway as it is supposed to. So to take off at Enugu,you must use the runway itself as taxi and then turn at the end of it. Just like with the domestic airports. So Enugu is practically still a domestic airport with International flights approval

I thought the int'l runway at MMIA was 3.9km? Maybe it's been expanded.

Maybe it was extended, however these figures are the total length (ie including the unmarked extensions at the end of the runway). Which are safety requirement in case a disabled airplane declares an emergency landing and somehow cannot land properly and thus require a longer runway to stop safely. 3KM is more than enough length for any size of NORMAL plane to take off and land safely.

Also Enugu is the only international airport in Nigeria without a taxi-way. The new Kaduna airport, also has a taxi-way. If the airport gets busier, it will be harder to allow planes land and take off quickly since the runway itself is used as a taxiway in Enugu and the plane turns at the end of the runway as in domestic airports.

I know Enugu already has trees and flowers better than most Nigerian cities, but more should be planted to bring it at par with what is obtainable in European cities and indeed real African cities such as Nairobi,Abuja, Calabar or Harare.

Again, i was informed today that Enugu airport has the shortest runway of international airports in Nigeria.
Abuja=3.70km (extendable to 5.2 km)
Lagos=4.2 km (extendable to 6.0 km)
PH= 3.4km (extendable to 5.5 km)
Kano= 3.65km (extendable to 6.2 km)
Enugu=3.10km (extendable to ?)

The government of Enugu state must immediately put a freeze on further developments around the airport area which is bound to boom now. They should also secure more land in front of the runway,should an extension be needs soon. They should also ban any building higher than a bungalow around the airport for safety reasons. All these measures need to be taken now because the Enugu airport unlike the other international airports is located in the middle of a thriving Emene town. So managing housing development in the immediate vicinity of the airport to guarantee safety of especially large airplanes such as Boeing 747s and airbus A340 landing and taking off from Enugu International must be a priority now. if not, land speculators will only concentrate on buying up all the land around the airport needed for future runway extension and build hotels and tall building which will make air crashes frequent at the airport.

Foreign Affairs Minister Olugbenga Ashiru on Friday in Abuja called on more countries, including the U.S. to accede to the Rome Statute, which established the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Ashiru made the call at a briefing session for members of the diplomatic corps in Nigeria.

The minister briefed the diplomatic community on the recent visit of President Omar Al-Bashir of Sudan to Abuja for an AU special summit, among other issues.

He defended Nigeria’s decision not to arrest Al-Bashir, who is under an ICC arrest warrant for alleged crimes against humanity.

On ICC membership, Ashiru said, ``Nigeria became a State Party to the Rome Statute out of its own independent and sovereign decision to demonstrate our total revulsion against impunity, war crimes and crimes against humanity.

``Nigeria will, therefore, not take any action to undermine respect for the rule of law and international criminal justice system.

``To ensure the effectiveness of the court, it is essential that more countries accede to the Rome Statute.

``I, therefore, call on all states who are not yet parties to join in the overall interest of international justice, peace and security.''

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that currently, 122 states are parties to the Statute of the Court, including half of the 54 countries in Africa.

The membership of the ICC includes all countries in South America, nearly all of Europe and most of Oceania.

A further 31 countries, including Russia, have also signed but have not ratified the Rome Statute.

The U.S., Israel and Sudan, who previously signed the statute, had indicated that they no longer intend to become state parties to the court.

On the other side, China and India are among the 41 UN member states that have neither signed nor ratified or acceded to the Rome Statute.

On Al-Bashir’s visit, Ashiru explained that he was in the country on the invitation of the AU for the special summit on HIV and AIDS, TB and malaria.

``As it is the practice and tradition of the AU, member states do not require special invitation to attend summits convened by the authority.

``Indeed, standard host country agreements for such summits grant privileges and immunities to all foreign participants expected at the conference.’’

He added that host countries for such summits are obligated to ``provide all necessary facilities for free entry and exit to participants.’’

The minister reiterated Nigeria’s unflinching commitment to the success of the international criminal justice system.

He cited Nigeria’s role in the arrest and hand over of Mr Charles Taylor of Liberia to UN to face charges on crimes committed by Sierra Leone rebel forces during the country's civil war.

He also referred to the peaceful and judicial resolution of the Bakassi border dispute with Cameroon as another key indicator of Nigeria’s commitment to international criminal justice system. (NAN)
