I really don't know why the PDP have left Obasanjo in the party. He should have since been expelled or at the minimum placed on suspension for his anti-party activities.
He was the one that planned the G5 governors script and the defection to APC. All he is doing is to gather information for APC from inside PDP. So that he could destroy the party. The earlier they expel OBJ for anti-party activities, the better for the PDP.

But if they are not your final destination, then your analysis is faulty. If someone's final destination is Lagos, Kano or Abuja, of course it doesn't make sense to fly first to Enugu and then embark on a road journey to Abuja and vice-versa if my final destination is Enugu or Eastern Nigeria.

In fact, i am yet to see a Nigerian without any need to fly to Enugu that will do so because it is shorter, just to then embark on another even longer road trip to his final destination in Lagos. Even for those of us living in close-by Warri.
Therefore, if your final destination is not Abuja or Lagos, for an accurate analysis of your itinerary, you must add the layover time to fly from Abuja to your final destination of Enugu or Owerri or you can add 6 to 8 hours road journey from Lagos or Abuja to those eastern cities if you intend to travel by road.

nwaobitex: The controversial letter Chief Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to President Goodluck Jonathan has continued to generate ripples with a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Buruji Kashamu alleging that the former president took on the president for selfish reasons.

Obasanjo had in an 18-page letter dated December 2, 2013 accused President Jonathan of taking actions detrimental to the unity and progress of the country.

The ex-president in the damning letter accused Jonathan of training a killer squad, encouraging corruption and pursuing an inordinate ambition. The letter also contained allegations of connivance by the Presidency with persons Obasanjo adjudged as discredited and criminal, including Kashamu, his loyalist until recently.

In an interview granted in Lagos on Friday, Kashamu dwelt on his relationship with Chief Obasanjo and why they fell apart. He revealed how the former president used him as a foot soldier to gain control of the PDP structure in his home state, Ogun before the 2011 general elections from the sitting governor, Gbenga Daniel who had fallen out with Obasanjo.

According to Kashamu, shortly after taking over the reins, Obasanjo instructed his loyalists not to support Jonathan because the president was not favorably disposed to him.

"When took the PDP structure from Daniel, Obasanjo called us one day and said we should not work for Jonathan for 2015. We asked why and he said Jonathan doesn't listen to him; Jonathan doesn't take instructions from him and Jonathan tells him lies. And we asked what kind of lies? Obasanjo said when Gbenga Daniel locked up the Ogun State House of Assembly during the crisis involving the lawmakers, Jonathan was in China and called him to say the action was unacceptable, that within 24 hours the Assembly would be re-opened. Obasanjo said despite the promise, the Assembly remained locked for two months. That in his own state it was an insult to his integrity. He was boiling with anger that day. He vowed that Jonathan would not spend more than one term in office. That he would fight President Jonathan to the end."

onomeasike: 1) The Ijaws are minorities and they still have an exaggerated impression of their real population and geographical boundaries. (refer to their battles with original landowners in benin, warri, ilajeland etc and controversy over who is a real Ijaw for example people from where the president hail from are not historically regarded as Ijaws unlike Asari Dokubo who is from the real ijaw clans)



2) The Ijaws are seriously disadvantaged in terms of human and economic capital (most educated and wealthy Ijaws have a taste and lifestyle they believe is above the primitive settings of most ijaw clans and those currently stealing petro-dollars are stocking up arms for personal security/struggle for power and mostly investing outside ijawland )

3) The ijaw identity as a brand (like the igbo identity) is quietly assuming a negative perception that they may no longer be entrusted with sensitive national and security asset.

4) The ijaws are surrounded with people who will never support the ijaw in their struggle because they have been cheated or fought by the ijaw resulting to loss of lives and property ( the itsekiri, Benin, Ilaje, urhobo etc) will never be in a country to be dominated by the ijaw.

5) The ijaw cannot feed themselves due to paucity of land and the access to the sea can always be bombarded or barricaded (refer to the experience of the igbo during the Nigerian Civil War)

6) The ijaw have serious internal division and this current unity among their elite is temporary. Some ijaw communities have cheated one another in terms of oil well location revenue and they know same will continue in absence of a neutral arbiter (even within Nembe, there is historical enmity and unsettled scores between the two Nembe)

7) The ijaw have a system that promote laziness among the malefolks and most children are being catered for by their mothers whose wise counsel against war may prevail.

The ijaws are in serious economic poverty even right now let alone when there is war.The cost of consumables in ijaw communities is usually high because the expensive cost of water transportation of goods is usually built into the cost of goods (even ordinary sweet sold #5 costs #20 in far flung ijaw communities)

9.Ijaws lack health infrastructure and the casualties that may arise can not be handled by them.

10) They don't border any country like the Yoruba or northerners in the event that women and children have to move into safe camps or seek temporary asylum or secure alliances.

Finally, if there's any war, the battle ground is going to be ijawland!

What would be your advice to the ijaw if you are in their shoes?

Your entire presumption is that because Ijaw is termed a "minority" group in Nigeria, they should be oppressed and any attempt to fight for their rights will be defeated because they are a minority?
How superficial you can be in your analysis. First of all, Nigeria cannot defeat Ijaw in any true combat unless it gets help from world powers like US or Britain. In any case, who will be fighting the Ijaws? Yorubas or /and Hausa? Infact, the Yoruba has its own hidden agenda to break away from Nigeria and i suspect in their wisdom of sharing border with Ijaw,they will not want to turn their region into a battleground. So i suspect only the Hausa will take the folly of fighting the Ijaw? With the present world order and economic order, they will be silly to expect the type of unquestionable help from Britain and Russia which helped them win the Biafran war. As a matter of fact, those countries have more to gain from a more manageable divided Nigeria than how it is presently constituted.
The same type of silly argument was made about Southern Sudan being a minority and impoverished that the north was going to snuff the life out of it if it dares to go for independence. Today, the nation of South Sudan proudly exist in the world. The same argument was put forward for former Soviet republics as Lithuania,Georgia,Ukraine etc, all those countries defeated the mighty Soviet union and are independent republics today.

Therefore, if the Ijaw decides to go its separate way, which may very well be the case after 2015, Nigeria cannot force her to be part of this cess pool of a country simply because our oil is needed to finance Islamic terrorists running around in northern Nigeria. If they want to war,they should already know through the Niger Delta crisis that the Ijaw isn't afraid of one.

The newly constructed half a kilometer Zik Avenue bridge in Enugu urban will be open to traffic today almost two weeks after its total closure.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Goddy Madueke said the bridge, which was partially opened to ease traffic, was closed to enable the contractors work on the link road to Ogui Road from Zik Avenue and to complete the little portion that was left while the new bridge was being constructed by an Italian Construction company.

He explained that the new bridge replaces the old one which existed for over 50 years. He described the repair work as part of the promise-fulfilled.by Governor Sullivan Chime.

Chime, he said, had given a firm promise that none of the projects he initiated will be left uncompleted before he vacates office in 2015.

The Commissioner said most of the on-going projects have reached between 70-95 per cent completion and assured that with the 2014 budget, “most of the projects will be completed and commissioned before his tenure expires”

He said some of the major projects like the Naira Triangle/Abakaliki Road dualisation, the New Haven Tunnel, the Akwata road, new Secretariat building, new Government House Building, many urban and rural roads among others being handled by Sullivan administration “are land mark projects which the governor will be remembered for many years after he left office.”

The Commissioner said: “Because of high priority which the governor places on infrastructure, our budget has remained the highest since he came to power and this is reflected in 2014 budget which our budget is about N15 billion, an indication that all the projects being undertaken and even new ones that may be awarded must be completed before he leaves office.”

achi4u: you are right. Abia and Anambra state remain the power house when it comes to economic activities no matter what their igr figure says.
Ebonyi is still the poorest state in the east no matter what our igr says, so,no one is celebrating here.
One good thing about the state is their ability to make use of their already designed master plan ...making it to access the city with ease and pleasure.

Truth be told, Ebonyi is not a media state making it to appear as if nothing is happening there. We are happy that any where you want to go in the state you will go withouth any hindrance of any sort because the entire state is connected with good tarred roads.

Still we are still not there yet like other states but we have to be happy with the little we have achieved.

One thing i love about my Gov. Uduaghan is his Delta without oil development drive.But that discussion is for another day.
I visited Abakaliki in July of 2012 and i was quietly impressed with what i saw there from the last time i was there in 2007.

That state is led by a cerebral old man who knows exactly what sustainable development mean.

While the other so called richest states are still groping in the dark trying to figure out how to use their commercial endowment to create jobs and develop their industrial potential,Ebonyi state is already full steam ahead in modernizing her agricultural endowment and animal husbandry into industrial clusters!
Bet me, with the pace of agricultural development in Ebonyi, it won't be long that it quickly climbs the GDP ladder to become one of Nigeria's richest states. The good thing with Ebonyi state is that their leaders have found their niche! That "comparative advantage" in agriculture,thus they are busy developing their agricultural output, basing their industrial revolution and development mostly on small sized agricultural processing & packaging factories.That is a sure recipe for success!

I celebrate Ebonyi not necessarily for having a robust IGR relative to other neighboring states, but because it is truly on the right track to modernize and industrialize of her agricultural niche ! If the new Anambra governor Obaino is somehow able to develop their oil and commercial endowment to attract investors into it, then they would have found their niche also.

The reason is that for a lot of these high class people have no business in the South East. The only reason why they would erect a nice building most times is because they see Igboland as their Ancestral land. The government of the SE have to put in measures to make the creme de la creme of the Igbo society to remain in the SE.

Yes, lack of decent well planned estates and decent neighborhoods can make you decide never to live in a particular city over another. No disrespect meant to my dear Ibo people here, but personally, i will never live in Onitsha,even if you gave me a job paying $1 million dollars a week!
