Delta Govt votes N7.4bn to demolish hills around airport

By Emma Arubi

ASABA—AS the Delta State Government prepares to host the next South-south Economic Summit billed for April 26 to 28 in Asaba, the government has approved the contract for the demolition of hills around the Asaba Airport to allow for bigger aircraft to land.

The demolition of the hills became necessary so that “special and bigger” aircraft can start landing before the commencement of the South-south Economic Summit.

Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr Kenneth Okpara, who briefed journalists on the outcome of the state Executive Council meeting, said the contract was initially awarded to one firm at N7.4 billion.

He explained that though the contract amount was not reviewed, it had been awarded to three different contracting firms including ULO Consultants, Levante Construction Limited and CCC Construction Nigeria Limited.

Okpara said: “The President is coming to the summit and we want him to land here in Asaba and not in Benin. We have just ten days to put the airport in proper shape because that is one of the conditions given by Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, for bigger aircraft to land.”

He assured that the new arrangement was “a matter of government being proactive to ensure that things move on properly,” noting that the new arrangement on the contract award would not have additional cost implication on the total cost of the airport construction.

Remember Jigawa state used 11.4 billion to build this airport in 9 months. Delta was using 7.5 billion to clear a hill around Asaba Airport.

Niger
delta recieves the largest allocations, have a
special ministry; the ministry of Niger delta
development, the Oil companies are also
responsible for a lot of projects we have here, so what are our governors using the money for?
Medical bills? Abi na pension Akpabio call am?
Delta state and Bayelsa are the worst! All the do is
show up at the launching of projects executed by
Federal Government and the Niger delta
development commission and pay people to sing
their praises

I need help, this is the third time it's happening to me, and in each instances, I normally loose my Facebook account.

Just yesterday, my Facebook account was hacked and I can't log in again. I didn't open a unsecured link or gave away my password or email. I just received a message that my session has expired and as such I should re log in again. I initially refused, and opted to off and re start the phone. But still yet, the message still continue to appear. Now Facebook is telling me that my account has been temporarily blocked and I need to identify some friends.

Pls can anyone direct me on how to retrieve it and what other measures should I take to prevent future occurrences.

Thanks and God bless

Even if Biafra succeeds, it doesn't mean Igbo's will leave all their businesses across the world which includes Nigeria. If that assumption is logical, then Nigerians all over the world should leave their businesses and political positions worldwide and come back to Nigeria. The world is a global community friend irrespective of our national or ethnic affiliations.
So in your wildest imagination, after insulting us, calling us COWS, ABBOKI, MALU etc and then by divine intervention you manage get BIAFRA, you think any useless Iyammiri will be allowed to remain in the Northhuh I don't know of the Yorubas, but starting from Kogi - Abuja - Maiduguri all Iyammiri MUST be ready to leave the ZOO and relocate to OKIJA REPUBLIC OF BIAFRA.

The time the South East start asking questions about their leaders the better. But the ordinary igbo man is more interested in what happens in Kano or Lagos than what happens in his state.
