Sports / Re: Flying Eagles Of Nigeria Vs Chile: 15th Of July by Waxxy(m): 10:27pm On Jul 15, 2007
any sincere football enthusiast would cry for the nigeiran team, they didn't deserve the final score line, they were a strong side that lost formation in the last 15 minutes

This should be a warning for the senior team in the next African nations cup
Sports / Re: Flying Eagles Of Nigeria Vs Chile: 15th Of July by Waxxy(m): 10:17pm On Jul 15, 2007
I agree that the Chileans were a better team, but the Nigerian side were not as bad as we are potraying them. I
They lacked a pin-point goalscorer which has always been Nigeria'a problem anyway

The first 2 Chilean goals were dodgy. the 3rd and 4th goals were due to the stupidity of our defenders. everybody went forward to score

We need to stop losing concentration once the opponents score, this is why we lost to Ghana in the london friendly

if we keep losing concentration like this, our football is history
Politics / Re: Nigeria: My Candid Thoughts by Waxxy(m): 12:16am On Jun 18, 2007
@Gamine,
i must admit that i am deeply fascinated by your level of political reasoning. It just confirms what ive always said about you belonging to a higher flock. The only problem is that when you start to ask these types of questions, you start to  think on ways by which you can help improve the status quo.
Now lets assume you come up with a feasible solution, Nigeria and Nigerians alike are so going to frustrate your efforts that you would be forced to leave its shores for good. This is the story of many a Nigerian in the diaspora today.

As much as i love  Nigeria, i cannot bear the fact that Nepa or whatever they are called can still not provide 24/7 electricity in AD 2007, that potable water is not so easily fetched and that police will collect N20 bribe every kilometre i travel on the highways or threaten to shoot me.

Nigeria is in a state of utter dilapidation and needs urgent measures to save us from the mess we're in. I commend Seun's optimism and belief in individual/entrepreneural efforts but i still disagree that this will solve the problem in totallity.The foundations of our country has not been laid right so there is no fair playing ground for entrepreneural effors as it were. Even the good Book says " If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?" Psalm 11vs 3.

It is time we forget that illusory "better life" that our leaders have promised us for so long and take what rightfully belongs to us by force, Nigeria needs a revolution.
Politics / Re: Nigeria: My Candid Thoughts by Waxxy(m): 3:33pm On Jun 15, 2007
Until we congregate a generation of selfless Nigerians who do not care about factors like money, power, ethnicity and religion, but are united in a bid to demand good governance and accountability from those thieves in power,im afraid we will keep going around in circles

I am that useless Wale boy that calls u once in a fortnight, the same one that has an annoying accent. lol

Gamine my good friend,
its interesting to hear you comment on political issues, lol

Until now, i would have considered your questions as mere rhetorics. Seriously

But hey, i think i have an answer to your worries, if and only if Nigerians stand up and act.
I will link you to a thread am about to start. soon.

call u laher, wait up.

@seun,

I hate the fact that I always disagree with you and you always end up banning me. Seems You and I got issues  grin

Its a shame that i disagree that the problems of Nigeria can be solved by individual efforts. I agree that it may make a better impact, but it will never eradicate our sorrows. Our problems are rooted farther than we think.

In simple terms, we need a revolution. people may have to die, blood might have to be spilled but that I'm afraid is the only way. Watchout for my new thread too.

@Ndipe,
I was a little suprised when i read your first post on this thread judging by your preposterous character,
Now then, thanks for not disappointing me with this one

I had always believed that Nigeria's greatest asset is it's crude human resource, i guess the finest its asset has now been transformed by elements of western mentality into it's greatest enemy.

Nigeria has frustrated us all at one time or the other, we all absconded due to one frustration or the other but some of are determined not to hold any grudges against a system that almost destroyed us but rather help improve it.

No one here has denied the present despeakable state of our dear island of Lagos, but pride in its former glory, friendly people, lovely weather, culture, and hope that things will be good again. Good day
Politics / Jeff Koinnange Of Cnn Fired. Is It True? by Waxxy(m): 1:23am On May 29, 2007
There are rumours about that CNN Lagos/west africa correspondent Jeff Koinange has been fired. it is supposed to be due to the Niger Delta interview which caused a stir between CNN and the Nigerian government.

Like i said, i heard in the grapevine so don't ask for sources or proof. just wanted to know if it is true. Heard anything?

@el rufai,

i was not so pleased with the name calling of a particular tribe as well, but in defence of Awoof i guess he was only trying to convey a message. Albeit, wrongly potryaed.

i witnessed the exodus of people out of lagos after the June 12 brohaha and i can understand where he is coming from. The point is Lagos continually suffers degaradation due to the influx of people not any particular ethnic group.

I think the influx of Nigerians to south east London is appaling and should be discouraged but I dont think that makes me racist does it?
TV/Movies / Re: Looking For Someone With Contacts In The Television Industry by Waxxy(m): 12:19am On May 29, 2007
@junegirl,
On a very serious note, i would love to work in the media industry in Nigeria. i would prefer to start with Radio presenting like Olisa, Dan Foster etc. and maybe move to TV later. This is more of a chidhood dream and I guess i could pull it off if i fall into da right hands.

I am into business management (student) in the UK right now and may end up in the financial sector, but i have a passion for media. Any advices? Courses to take, people to discuss with. Your help would be appreciated
Sports / Re: Let's Support Our Local League, Now by Waxxy(m): 12:10am On May 29, 2007
Some of us were ardent supporters of the local league until "condition make crayfish bend".

DisGuy has outlined some of the issues but they are more reasons why our local league is not appealing to us anymore  I was a strong supporter of Julius Berger FC Lagos and still hold the team dear, now i hear they are to become extinct.

I was watching a London movie today (Green street) and was telling my mates that the passion that the British and some of us(Adopted fans) dedicate to the premiership is nothing compared to ordinary Principal's cup in Lagos. My mother will not cease to tell me of how even as a lady, was an active member of Stationary stores FC supporters club in the good old days.

I vividly remember a match between Enyimba and Julius Berger in Lagos (many years ago),  you should have seen the mass exodus of Ibo brovas from Idumota to surulere to support thier team. People fought with riot police and even scaled the high walls of National stadium to catch a glimpse of the match in a full stadium. The only ime i saw the Stadium that full and chaotic was when Shaggy perfomed at the edifice.

If NFA and the concerned bodies especially the Media could up thier game, you would be surprised to see Nigerians abandoning Chelsea ans Arsenal (except Man. U cheesy) for 3SC and Sharks FC.

PS: British Sky Broadcasting (BSKYB) or Sky TV as u may know it is the backbone of the premiership,not the government what is the Nigerian media doing?

Travel / Re: The New Yorker Magazine Article On Lagos by Waxxy(m): 10:32pm On May 27, 2007
@Jakumo,

On behalf of all Lagosians (Nigerians), I duly accept your apology. However, i hope your sudden change of heart is not  due entirely to pressure from concerned contributors but of a deep understanding of what the status quo was and what could be again if we all contribute our bit.

i beseech you to read relevant literature on the island of Lagos, i personally recommend these two:

John B. Losi (1967), History of Lagos, African educational press

My Life The Autobiography of Mrs Ipigenia Efunjoke Coker, M.F.R,(2000), Titsons Publishers lagos,
(ISBN-10: 978-31686-7-3 / 9783168673 )

and also please take time to savour the sweet memoirs of Wale Akin, titled "bringing back the good old days"

(http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/board/article-comments/20582-lagos-island-bringing-back-good-old-days.html)

Finally, I should say that I strongly believe that every Nigerian (youth) should get a chance to experience and learn from western civilization. Life in the West has thought us a number of lessons that we would have been deprived of in Nigeria, but a "river must not forget its source, lest it dries up".

@Ijogbon
Abeg tell them of the sweet memories of lagos. I pity those of you that never experienced the blissful childhood of a natural sea-side resort we lived in and loved. Pity. You may define these as absolute insanity, but soon i will recommend memoirs and autobiographies of notable people who witnessed the Lagos that we speak of, who have taken time to carefully describe their Childhood paradise

@Jakumo, You are hereby disqualified from commenting on this thread. Your judgement, admittedly presented in the most eloquent manner is biased since you,ve never lived there. You've probably never even visited.

I know some people, civilised and highly educated who will not trade lagos for any city in the world. I know people who resigned from jobs at the smallest idea of being transfered to another city.
I talk of people that visit London and New york frequently, but find the beauty of living in Lagos irresistible. I as well do.

LAGOS IS LIKE MARMITE, YOU EITHER LOVE IT OR HATE IT
Travel / Re: The New Yorker Magazine Article On Lagos by Waxxy(m): 10:28am On May 25, 2007
i hope Jakumo never visits Lagos, we dont need his sorts in Akete anyway

@Ijogbon,
May our ancestors be with you in all your endeavours in white man's land, may you prosper well enough to join us in enjoying the beauty of lagos. i used to think i was the only one crazy enuf to leave Abuja to Lagos every month just to catch a glimpse of my beloved city. So i guess i wasn't that crazy

The long commute to behold the magnificient "3 white cap chiefs" that have dedicated thier lifetime to welcoming you to Lago de Kuramo is worth every second.

I LOVE LAGOS, no matter what the bloody yank and his unpatroitic cohorts say
Travel / Re: The New Yorker Magazine Article On Lagos by Waxxy(m): 7:13pm On May 24, 2007
Lagos is officially the worst city in the world, but pray my bones rest none else than in the the Land of Aquatic Splendour

Jakumo and co, i plan to lead a revolution to bring effective governance in the nooks and crannies of Nigeria one day.
What positive plans do you guys have for your motherland rather than venomous literation

Or maybe

@Bebe2007, he's in lagos,are u? He's a real nice bloke like most of us but often too niceto my annoyance. or maybe its because im a kind of guy that don't believe in excess emotions

One time he bought this girl that openly said that it could never happen between them a teddy bear worth about N5,000 (6 years ago), and i was supposed to give it to her all the way in Abuja, i didnt.
