Man recognizes mom in bank robbery surveillance photos, turns her in to cops

A Michigan man can claim to be an upstanding, law-abiding citizen, though he’s not likely to win a son-of-the-year award any time soon. The man, whose name is being withheld, recognized the woman in surveillance photos of a bank robbery as his mother. He phoned the police not only to reveal the crook’s identity but her location — in his home in Byron Township.


MLive reports that Dee Ann Sanders, 53, was indicted Tuesday, June 25, on charges that she robbed a Bank of America branch a week earlier. She is to be arraigned in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids on Thursday.

Surveillance photos showed a woman wearing a bright red T-shirt with a large American flag on the front.

Shortly after the photos were released to media, the son and several other callers identified Sanders as the robber, FBI special agent Adam Van Deuren wrote in a criminal complaint. Police found her near her son’s house on Festival Drive SW, less than a mile from the bank robbery.

Sanders admitted to robbing the bank during an interview with the FBI and a Kent County sheriff’s detective, Van Deuren wrote, adding, “Sanders further stated that she was stressed about problems with her husband, causing her to have crack-cocaine addiction-related urges.”

According to a statement from the teller who was approached by Sanders, she presented a note announcing the robbery and demanding $2,500 for her children and grandchildren. She made off with $1,092, court records indicate, a difference of nearly $1,500.

But the real $1,500 is whether she feels proud of her son for turning in a bank robber. If nothing else, she can take solace from knowing she raised him right.

Police parade Bishop Nwabueze over alleged rape

PORT HARCOURT — Chairman of All Bishops in Rivers State, Bishop Chibuike Nwabueze, who was arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year old girl, was paraded, yesterday, by the state Police Command.

The Bishop, who confessed to the crime before newsmen, said he was hypnotised, adding that he was set up by the pastor of the church where the incident occurred.

He denied raping the underage girl, but admitted that she removed her clothes after he finished praying for her in the office and before he could shout ‘the blood of Jesus,’ he was already all over the girl.

The Bishop said he was set up by his fellow Bishop, who was also contesting for the post of Chairman of All Bishops in the state with him.

Nwabueze, who was paraded at the Rivers State Criminal Investigation department, SCID, Port Harcourt, said anybody could have fallen a victim of what happened to him.

He described as untrue, allegation that he made the girl abort a pregnancy from the incident. According to him, it was the girl’s father that did it but he took care of of the bill.

He said: “We have different Colleges of Bishops. I am the Chairman of Communion of Bishops in Rivers State. Well, what actually happened was a set up. It was set-up by my enemies. The man who is in-charge of where I went to minister is my enemy. He is the person that set me up.

“He invited me to his church for a programme and afer the programme, he set me up because of what we are dragging. We are dragging the chairmanship of the communion and that was why he set me up. But to my greatest surprise, on the said day and after I had prayed for her, the girl started pulling off her clothes and before you knew it, I had carnal knowledge of her.”

Regardless, she is hopeful that others ladies will follow suit and also marry themselves. The question remains though: Will she be eligible for spousal tax benefits? If so, then I might just marry myself, though I’m just a guy!

By An 18-year-old boy has become the country's biggest teenage lottery winner after pocketing a staggering £22million on the EuroMillions, relatives have revealed.

A security man and employee of First Bank Nigeria Plc, Jibowu Branch, Seyi Jaiyeola, is standing trial at a magistrate’s court in Ebute Meta for allegedly breaking the company’s automated teller machine and stealing a sum of N12, 533,900.

The bank’s branch Service Manager, Mr. Kayode Aiyewunmi, who gave evidence in court, said Jaiyeola was on a N20, 000 monthly pay and was a member of the Odua People’s Congress.

He said the company had observed that one of the bank’s four ATMs was having a reconciliation problem and had employed the service of an expert to help unravel mysterious disappearances of money.

Aiyewunmi said, “We discovered that there was always a shortage of cash in the machine.

“Despite our reconciliation efforts, the ATM was still having problems and we engaged the service of an expert who submitted his report and said the machine did not have any reconciliation issue.

“He said somebody was breaking into the machine in the middle of the night to steal the cash.

“I reported the matter to my boss, who said I should conduct an investigation into the matter. “When the last breakage happened, we went to play back the branch’s CCTV, and we now saw Jaiyeola in the middle of the night, opening the window at the back of my office. There’s a control panel which controls the security door, which he touched. So, the CCTV stopped.”

He said it was at that point the company concluded he was the brain behind the theft.

He said after the matter was reported at the Onipanu Police station, and the accused was arrested, he led them to his house, where he allegedly confessed to the crime.

Aiyewunmi said, “When we got to his house for a search, we recovered N243,945 cash. The police then asked him what else he did with the money. He said he bought a car, which was parked at the house there, a Toyota Corolla. Then we recovered a new generator. He also took the police to the building he was constructing which was near completion.” He said after recovering the item, First Bank transferred the matter to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.

Jaiyeola was arraigned on a five counts of fraud and stealing and was subsequently granted bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum.

The prosecution counsel, Mr. Ishola Samuel, asked for an adjournment to help source some legal citations.

The magistrate, Mrs. M.O Tanimola, adjourned the matter till July 15.

These are the shocking images which further detail Michael Jackson's tragic spiral into prescription pill dependency, revealed as his family pursue a lawsuit against his concert promoters.


The evidence pictures, released by the Los Angeles Police Department this week, show numerous pill bottles, oxygen tanks and medical supplies littered around the superstar's bedroom at the time of his death on June 25, 2009.


One image, which was not among the dozens of pictures shown as part of the Conrad Murray manslaughter trial, reveals a metal stand with a hanging bag of intravenous fluids attached.

Michael Jackson's mother Katherine is suing AEG Live, claiming it failed to properly investigate her son's personal doctor Conrad Murray and missed warning signs about his failing health.

Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2011 after giving Jackson a lethal dose of the anesthetic propofol.

In the new photo collection, prescription pill bottles are seen lined up on a nightstand alongside over-the-counter products and a bottle of water while empty containers roll around on the floor.


Along with propofol, the names of drugs Diazepam and Lidocaine are marked on some bottles' labels.

In one telling image, which appears to have been taken in a car, there is a list of nearby 24-hour pharmacies and the phone numbers.


Conrad Murray's medical bag is also indicated in one picture, according to RadarOnline, stashed high in a closet in the superstar's dressing room.


There are also similar images from Murray's trial including shots of Jackson's iconic embroidered jackets hanging in a closet and stacks of movies on a nightstand.

The shocking new set of images came as jurors in the Jackson case were shown an email on Monday in which the top executive at AEG Live LLC expressed grave concerns about treatments Jackson was receiving from his longtime dermatologist.

The email sent by AEG Live CEO Randy Phillips said the company was 'scared to death' of drug injections given to Jackson.

Phillips told jurors that the email was a response to a $48,000 bill that Jackson's manager received for the treatments by Dr Arnold Klein.

'He scares us to death because he is shooting him up with something,' Phillips wrote.

Klein's attorney has defended the doctor's treatment of Jackson.


AEG denies any wrongdoing, and Phillips and other executives have testified during the trial that it would have been inappropriate to ask about or intervene in Jackson's medical care.

Phillips was told by a judge to answer questions posed by a lawyer for Katherine Jackson without arguing and that his demeanor might be hurting his case.

Phillips said Panish was repeatedly asking him questions about the same subject.

The admonition by the judge came after Panish asked Phillips about characterizations of Murray that Phillips made in an email sent five days before the singer died.

Palazuelos briefly stopped the testimony and issued the warning.

Jessica Stebbins Bina, a defense attorney for AEG Live, said some of Panish's questions had been argumentative. The judge disagreed.

ABEOKUTA — A 67-year-old church guard identified as Matthew Isidahume, yesterday, reportedly committed suicide with his lifeless body found dangling within the premises of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Gbagura, Ago- Oka, in Abeokuta North Local Government of Ogun State.

Vanguard learnt that members of the church who converged for the morning prayers discovered the corpse of the deceased where he allegedly hung himself.

When Vanguard visited the scene, men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and some policemen were seen at the place.

Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident said three guards were supposed to be on duty when the incident happened.

Adejobi said: “The deceased left a suicide note which is currently assisting us in our investigation, but the command will do a thorough job toward getting to the bottom of the matter.”

However, a member of the church council, who identified himself as Adekunle Adegoke, said the deceased was the church’s night-guard, adding that those who came for the morning prayer meeting met the gate locked and waited for about 30 minutes thinking the late Matthew was busy.

He said: “When there was no trace of him, the people decided to push a small boy across the fence and the boy later returned with the sad news that Matthew had hung himself.

“Really, if you see him, the first thought will be that there was a sort of complex issue, probably there is a foul play. But looking closely you will see his footprints on the generator which showed that he climbed, tied something on his neck and then jumped.”

Have you noticed that our younger generation these days tend to be so engrossed in their respective mobile devices, smartphones and tablets included, that they tend to walk around while fiddling with the touchscreen display of their mobile device, relying on their peripheral vision instead to navigate through the throngs of people in a cosmopolitan city? Well, after reading news of a horrific accident in Shenzen, China, where a young lady was killed by an elevator by getting her head trapped between its doors and having it nearly severed as the elevator moved downwards because she was too busy to notice her surroundings while she was on her phone, you might want to think twice about texting while you walk the next time.

A 24 year old nurse known as Wang was in a rather crowded elevator in Changhong Tower in Shenzhen's Luohu district, when it stopped because of an alleged failure. As the door was open at that time, Wang, who was busy with her mobile phone, stepped out of the exit only to be trapped ala the first Resident Evil movie when the elevator started to move, trapping Wang's neck in the process. Obviously, the force of moving three stories at the very least was more than enough to snuff out Wang's life, much to the horror of the others in the elevator.

The other passengers in the elevator lived through something of a horror movie situation as they were left covered in Wang's blood, although thankfully, none of them were injured. The mental scars would be a whole lot more difficult to heal, and I do hope that they can seek out the relevant channels to help them forget or cope with the memory. It definitely is not going to be easy stepping into another elevator shortly after such an impactful incident, of course.

So the next time you are tempted to reply that text message in an elevator, do remember this particular incident and play your cards right by being on the safe side. After all, that text message can wait, can it not? Never mind if you have one of the spanking new smartphones, fiddling with them without being aware of your surroundings could definitely prove fatal.

A mortuary refrigerator from a Manhattan psychiatric hospital is being sold in "used" but "good condition" on eBay.

Bidding for the 8ft tall, 6ft wide, steel fridge, which has four doors for body storage, has already reached \$805 (£530).

Some 41 bids have been placed since Thursday and there are still four days of bidding left.

New York's Office of General Services, which is attempting to make the sale, told the New York Post that the ad was not a hoax.

She said the agency does get unusual surplus items to sell from time to time, including barber chairs from prisons and police cars, but she did not recall a previous sale of a morgue cooler.

She added there are no rules about who the cooler can go to - any individual or agency could take it - and no background checks are required.

The ad notes the buyer must pick it up from the Manhattan Psychiatric Center using his or her own transportation.

"Buyer must dismantle unit to remove from room," it says.

The buyer, the ad notes, is responsible for cleaning it. It also states the fridge is in good condition with few scrapes and bangs.

"The potential buyer is strongly encouraged to inspect item prior to bidding," it says.

The item is a Norlake Scientific 4 Drawer Morgue Refrigerator with compressor on top.

A man claiming to be Jesus is gaining followers and causing concern among cult experts in Australia.

Former IT specialist Alan John Miller, or AJ as he prefers to be known, runs a religious movement known as the Divine Truth from his home near the small town of Kingaroy in the state of Queensland.

[b]Mr Miller claims that not only is he Christ, but his partner, Australian Mary Luck, is in fact Mary Magdalene, who according to the Bible was present at the crucifixion.

He told Sky News: "I have very clear memories of the crucifixion, but it wasn't as harrowing for me as it was for others like Mary who was present.

"When you are one with God you are not in a state of fear, and you have quite good control over your body's sensations and the level of pain that you absorb from your body."

Mr Miller holds seminars near his home and also travels around the world teaching people how to have a personal relationship with God, often by delving deep into their emotions.

Dozens of his followers are understood to have bought properties in the area to be closer to him.

After his crucifixion the Australian claims he entered the spirit world where he met Plato, Socrates, popes and presidents.

He also says he remembers performing miracles.

He said: "I did resurrect quite a number of people ... including a friend of mine Lazarus, who most people know is mentioned in the Bible."

British woman Louise "Luli" Faver, 39, is a former neuroscientist who has given up her career to be closer to the couple.

"It's just nice to instead of being surrounded by people who think you are nuts, to be surrounded by people who understand what you are going through and the difficulties of trying to deal with all the emotional stuff," she said.

She believes AJ Miller has helped her become happier and more fulfilled in life.

George Hamel has left behind a business and his wife in California to be closer to Mr Miller and his teachings. He firmly believes Mr Miller is Jesus Christ and insists there's nothing sinister about him.

"It's natural that people form fears when they don't know about something," he said.

"Anyone who has a chance to look into it aren't going to find anything too upsetting."

Some, however, are concerned - like the Rev David Millikan, who has met AJ Miller and has studied cults for 30 years.

He said: "The danger is you'll be drawn closer and closer into his web to a point that you lose access to your social life, you spend all your money, you'll have the curses of all your family ringing in your ears and you may well lose your relationship."

But Mr Miller says he does not demand anything of those who come and listen to him speak. He claims donations are welcome, but not obligatory.

He refutes any suggestion that he forces anyone to do anything they are uncomfortable with.

"All we do is present seminars and answer people's questions. I still for the life of me can't quite understand where the cult thing has come from," he told Sky News.

He added: "There were lots of people in the first century who didn't believe I was the Messiah and were offended by what I said - and in fact I died at the hands of some of them.

"Unfortunately they didn't learn love either and my suggestion is, even if you don't believe I am Jesus, at least learn how to love."

(Reuters) - An Idaho man who admitted to breaking into a Boise zoo last year and killing a monkey was sentenced to seven years in prison on Thursday, court records show.

Michael Watkins, 22, of Weiser, Idaho, in March pleaded guilty to attempted grand theft, a felony, and misdemeanor animal cruelty stemming from the break-in and beating death of the monkey at Zoo Boise in November.

The primate was one of the zoo's two Patas monkeys, ground-dwelling animals from Africa that stand more than 2 feet tall and weigh about 35 pounds. They are rare in zoos but not endangered in the wild.

The case shook officials at the zoo and triggered an outpouring of sympathy and donations from animal lovers worldwide.

Watkins scaled the security fence at Zoo Boise in the pre-dawn hours of November 17 and attempted to steal the monkey, which bit him, police said. Watkins then kicked and hit the animal, severely wounding it, according to police. The monkey later died of blunt force trauma, zoo officials said.

Zoo Boise Director Steve Burns said on Thursday the sentencing of Watkins closed a particularly devastating chapter for the facility.

"We're moving on," he said. "The court has done its job and we're continuing to do our job."

In the days after the death, zoo staff sought to boost the spirits of the companion-less Patas monkey and considered shipping it to another zoo with primates since they are exceedingly social, Burns said.

Instead, Zoo Boise in December gained two female Patas monkeys donated by the Rosamund Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, New York.

News about the monkey's death brought donations from across the United States and overseas, allowing the zoo to begin construction on Monday of a $250,000 exhibit for the three Patas monkeys, Burns said.

Straight out of Ripley’s Believe It or Not, comes this true tale of a poor Chinese woman who has grown a horn resembling a goat’s on the left side of her head. She also appears to be growing another one on the right side.



The woman, 100-year old Zhang Ruifnag from central China’s Henan Province, began growing the monstrosity, which started as a small lump on her forehead, last year. It is now six centimeters long (more than two inches).

“The horn started as a patch of thick, rough skin on the left side of her forehead. We didn’t pay too much attention to it at first, but as time went on it just grew and grew. And now there is something growing on the right side of her forehead and it seems quite possible that it’s another horn,” said her youngest son, 60-year-old Zhang Guozheng.

The horn causes no pain to the centenarian who has seven children, six boys and a girl, the eldest of which is 82 years old, and many grandchildren. Living in a very rural area and too poor to afford hospital care, her children are worried about their mother’s condition but comforted by the fact that she is in no pain and appears to enjoy a peaceful satisfying life.



The condition is known as a cutaneous horn, which is an uncommon deformity. Composed of keratin, these horns usually develop in elderly adults, particularly those who have had a history of sun exposure. Still, a growth of this size is rare. In more than half of the cases, they are benign but they can be cancerous. The horns can be surgically removed but without treating their cause, they may return.

Life is indeed an enigma, as why on earth would a human being ever need a horn?

A plastic surgery addict injected cooking oil into her face when doctors refused to give her any more silicone.

Former model Hang Mioku has been left permanently disfigured following the DIY (do it yourself) beauty treatment.

After injecting an entire bottle of black market silicone into her face, Hang resorted to using cooking oil that left her face severely swollen and scarred. Hang Mioku's face was left so swollen by the silicone and cooking oil, left, that her own parents did not recognise her. Despite 10 operations her face is still severely disfigured.

Her plights was featured on Korean television and viewers donated thousands of pounds to pay for corrective surgery.

During the first of 10 operations, surgeons removed 60g of silicone, oil and other foreign substances from her face and 200g from her neck.

However, Hang is still disfigured and she said she wishes she could have her old face back.

Hang had her first procedure aged 28 and then moved to Japan where she had repeated treatments.

She quickly became obsessed with having smoother and softer skin.However, she managed to get hold of a bottle of silicone

and a syringe to self-inject but when that ran out she resorted to use cooking oil. Her face was so altered that her own parents did not recognise her and local children also used to call her 'standing fan' because her face was so large compared to her small body.

Numerous operations paid for by donations have managed to reduce the size of her face and neck but she is still significantly disfigured.

Recently the former model was working in a recycled clothes shop, called The Beautiful Shop, and receiving handouts from the state.

An Australian man charged with robbing a US bank of \$140,000 has told a court his actions were justified because he gave much of the money to people made homeless due to bank repossessions.

Corey Donaldson, 39, who is representing himself, told the jury he was using the banks to bailout the poor after becoming homeless himself last year and meeting people on the streets.

In an emotional opening statement Donaldson said: "I must say, I feel like a frightened child.

"I came up with the idea that since the banks had been bailed out, and the people had not, I was going to confiscate money from US Bank in Jackson, Wyoming, and redistribute it to the poor and homeless in America and that's what I did," he said.

Donaldson, who has lived in the US for 20 years, is accused of claiming explosives were planted around the bank while carrying out the robbery on New Year's Eve.

Jared Thomas Williams, branch manager of the bank, said Donaldson met him in his office on the day of the robbery.

He added that Donaldson told him members of a Mexican cartel were outside the building and were prepared to blow it up if Mr Williams did not give him \$2m (£1.29m) in cash.

"There were four military-grade explosives that had been buried in the snow, and they were prepared to detonate them," Mr Williams said Donaldson told him.

Mr Williams said he loaded \$140,000 (£90,000) - nearly all the cash in the bank - into a duffel bag before giving it to Donaldson.

Donaldson was arrested in Utah after he was identified on surveillance cameras in the bank.

A close friend of his, Kevin Day, had called police after Donaldson arrived at his home late one night and told him where to find \$8,000 (£5,150).

Mr Day testified that he had been close friends with Donaldson for 16 years, adding he became emotional when he received the money as it came at a good time.

Investigators say they they recovered about \$30,000 (£19,309) after Donaldson's arrest. Donaldson told an FBI agent shortly after that he had intended to surrender.

The trial is expected to last a week.

..A Brazilian man claims he 'cried ink for two days' after getting his eyeballs tattooed to make them darker.

Tattoo artist Rodrigo Fernando dos Santos, 39, of Sao Paulo, decided to go ahead with the bizarre procedure after having already had 70 per cent of his body covered in ink.

The work involved a special syringe being used to inject the ink into the whites of his eyes.


The irreversible procedure involved using a syringe to inject ink into the sclera - the protective outer layer - of his eyes, 9News reports.

The ink used to inject his eye is believed to be the same used for tattoos on the rest of the body.
Eye specialists have advised against the procedure which some warn can cause inflammation and possibly even vision loss, according to 9News.



Eye tattooing is believed to be growing in popularity worldwide, with a tattoo artist in Australia claiming to be the first to have had the procedure done.


Tattooing goes back thousands of years, and has been a widespread practice across the globe, from the Pacific islands to northern Europe since ancient times.

These heartbreaking pictures show a rural Indian girl of just 18 months old suffering from hydrocephalus, a build up of fluid inside the skull.

The family of Roona Begum, from the village of Jirania in India's north-eastern state of Tripura, cannot afford to pay for her to be treated.

Her father Abdul Rahman, 26, works in a brick factory, where he earns the equivalent of just £1.79 a day.

Babies who are born with hydrocephalus would normally require prompt surgical treatment to avoid being left permanently disabled.

But without the means to pay for a doctor, Mr Rahman and his family can only do their best to keep Roona comfortable as they watch her condition slowly and inexorably deteriorate.

Sometimes misleadingly known as water on the brain, hydrocephalus is caused by a build-up of the cerebrospinal fluid inside the skull, increasing pressure on the brain inside.


The brain constantly produces new cerebrospinal fluid at the rate of about a pint a day, while old fluid is released from the brain and reabsorbed into the blood vessels.
But if this process is interrupted, as in individuals with hydrocephalus, levels of the fluid can quickly build up and place pressure on the brain, causing headaches, blurred vision and, eventually, permanent brain damage.

'Left untreated, if it progresses very quickly, the babies usually die because their brain tissues are unable to adapt,' said Gill Yaz, health development manager for Shine, a UK charity set up to help people affected by hydrocephalus.


But, she added, if the condition develops more slowly, as in Roona's case, the child adapts by growing their skulls to contain the excess fluid. However, the adaptation can only go so far.

The main treatment for hydrocephalus is to implant a thin tube, called a shunt, in the brain to drain excess cerebrospinal fluid to another part of the body where it can be more easily reabsorbed.

The shunt has a valve inside it to control the flow of fluid and to ensure it does not drain too quickly, which those treated can feel as a lump under the skin of their scalps.

Ms Yaz told MailOnline: 'It's done by paediatric neurosurgeons, but its not a very demanding procedure. The operation usually lasts about 30 minutes.'

The shunts themselves usually cost a few hundred pounds, she said, going up to around £800 for the state-of-the-art models.


A spokesman for Headway, the brain injury association, told MailOnline that shunting is very effective, but there can be complications of infections, obstructed shunts and haemotomas.

'These are avoided by another operation called a third ventriculostomy. This involves creating a hole in the floor of the third ventricle for the fluid to drain through,' he said, adding that this is only suitable for some types of hydrocephalus.

Experts estimate that the congenital form of the condition affects around one in every 500 children.

It can be caused by birth defects like spina bifida, or as the result of an infection that the mother develops during pregnancy, such as mumps or rubella.

The condition can also be acquired after birth by both adults and children, often as the result of a serious head injury or medical condition such as a brain tumour.


Keeping her comfortable: Hydrocephalus can be cured by surgery, but without money to pay for a doctor, Mr Rahmancan only keep Roona comfortable and watch her condition inexorably deteriorate
Without an expert medical opinion, it is impossible to know how Roona came to be affected by hydrocephalus and impossible to know what related conditions she might be suffering from.

In the West, children diagnosed with the disorder and promptly treated can go on to lead normal lives. In India, things are different.

In a blunt assessment of his government's failure to extend a social safety net for the poor, India's rural development minister said last year that the country's public health system had 'collapsed'

[b]A family of four taking a canoe tour of the Florida Everglades got an extra special surprise when their guide jumped out of the boat to wrestle a Burmese python.

Tommy Owens, 26, and fellow guide Warren Wortman of Everglades Adventure Tours were leading the parents and two young girls on a tour through the river when one of the family members spotted the snake.
The species aren't native to the area and are accused of a being scourge to local wildlife.

After pushing their tour boat at least 15 feet away from the python, Owen grabbed the snake under the water and allowed it to wrap and coil around him so he could pull it out.
Unfortunately for Owens, he hadn't realized that this particular python was 10.5ft long and much stronger than he was.


'He was very strong, about three times the size of my arms,' said Owens.
As they began to fight, the snake began to coil itself around his arm.

‘That's when I found out he was stronger than I was, and much bigger than I thought he was,’ Owens told NBC2. [/b]

‘We were kind of doing like a snake ju-jitsu. He'd get a coil around one arm and my other arm would uncoil him and that arm would get coiled. It was tough... at one point I was literally handcuffed to this snake.’

With Wortman's help, the snake was eventually subdued and euthanized.
The pythons are suspected to be wiping out large numbers of raccoons, opossums, bobcats and other mammals in the Everglades.

Owens and Wortman turned the dead snake over to the Big Cypress National Preserve, where it will be tested to find out its eating habits, origin, and where it’s been.

A woman in China has done just that, buying a $6.5 million apartment at the Uber-luxury building One57 in Manhattan for her daughter, the International Business Times reports.

The woman’s daughter will be in wealthy company as the building, which will be finished next year, will also be the future home to several international billionaires.

According to the New York Times, the billionaire buyers include at least two others from China, a Canadian, a Nigerian and a Briton, as well as several wealthy Americans.

The building’s developers said that a handful of buyers were "significant Forbes billionaires".

this week that he was touring Manhattan with the mother when he asked her why she wanted to buy.

"She said that it had to do with her daughter, who was either going to go to Columbia or NYU, maybe Harvard, and so

"I said, 'How old is your daughter?' And she said, 'Well, she's two.' And I was just shocked."

Saudi Arabia has lifted the ban preventing women from riding motorbikes and bicycles, it has emerged.

The kingdom's religious police are now allowing women to ride bikes in parks and recreational areas.

However, they have to be accompanied by a male relative and dressed in the full Islamic head-to-toe abaya.

An unnamed official from the powerful religious police told the Al-Yawm daily newspaper that women may not use the bikes for transportation but 'only for entertainment'.

Saudi Arabia follows an ultraconservative interpretation of Islam and bans women from driving.

Women are also banned from riding motorcycles or bicycles in public places. The newspaper didn't say what triggered the lifting of the ban.

Woman Delivers ‘Stone Baby’ After 60 Year Pregnancy

In a bizarre turn of events straight out of Mr. Ripley’s personal files, comes this true story of a 92-year-old woman who delivered a child (albeit not a live baby) she had been carrying for over half a century! (Long pregnancies are one thing, but THAT is ridiculous!)

Huang Yijun, aged 92, is from southern China and she recently made news after delivering a baby known as a lithopedion, aka ‘Stone Baby’.


Huang Yijun told the press she didn’t have the money to have her fetus removed after doctors told her it had died inside her in 1948.

So she simply did nothing at all about it.

Lithopedion is a very rare medical phenomenon, which occurs when a pregnancy fails and the fetus actually calcifies while still in the mother’s body.

Medically speaking, what often happens is the implanted fetus gets to an advanced stage before it dies. Too large to be absorbed by the body, the remains of the child or its surrounding amniotic sac slowly calcify, turning to stone as a way to protect the woman’s body from infection from the decomposing tissue.

If no complications occur, believe it or not, the mother can basically just go on with her life.

According to the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, only 290 cases of lithopedions have ever been documented by medical literature.

107 Year-Old Woman Seeks First Husband

Wang Guiying is a 107-year-old Chinese woman who takes things very slowly… even love.

Wang Guiying was born in southern Guizhou province, the child of a salt merchant. She grew up watching her uncles and other men scold and beat their wives and this made her fear marriage.

After Wang’s father, mother and older sister died, she still shied away from marriage and moved to the countryside where she survived as a farmer until she was 74 years old and no longer strong enough to work in the fields.

Now Wang has decided that it’s time to forget the past and take the bull by the horns, so to speak. She told the press that she hopes to find a fellow centenarian so they will have something to talk about.

She came to her decision because she was worried that she had become a burden to her aging nieces and nephews, especially since she was forced to stop helping with household chores since breaking her leg when she was 102.

“My nephews and nieces are getting older and their children are already tied up with their own families and I am becoming more and more of a burden. I’m already 107 and I still haven’t gotten married. What will happen if I don’t hurry up and find a husband?”

An eight-year-old South African boy married an already married 61-year-old mother of five to please "the ancestors" this weekend. The ceremony went ahead with the blessings of the child's mother and the bride's husband.

The local community in Tshwane is shocked by the controversial wedding, according to the Independent. Sanele Masilela, 8, married 61-year-old Helen Shabangu in a ritual ceremony after claiming the ghost of his deceased grandfather asked him to do so.

The bride wore a traditional white wedding dress while the schoolboy sported a silver suit. The wedding ceremony cost almost $2,000 but no marriage certificate was signed, meaning Shabangu cannot be charged with bigamy.

Patience Masilela, the 46-year-old mother of the child groom, defended the ceremony. She said:""Sanele is named after his grandfather, who was never had a white wedding before he died so asked Sanele to get married. He chose Helen because he loves her.By doing this we made the ancestors happy. If

The seven-year-old Tanzanian boy was attacked as he walked home with four school friends and his arm was hacked off.

Apolinary Macheta, the local government leader in Tanzania's southwestern Milepa district, said: 'The boy was attacked on Saturday by three people as he walked home with his four school friends.'

The boy named Mwigulu Magessa, is recovering in hospital, Macheta added.

In Tanzania, albinos are killed and dismembered due to a widespread belief that charms made from their body parts bring good fortune and prosperity.
Albinism is a genetic condition characterised by a deficiency of melanin pigmentation in the skin, hair and eyes which protects from the sun's ultraviolet rays.

Human rights groups have called the rise in attacks on albino people 'alarming'. They are targetted and dismembered due to a belief their body parts bring good fortune

People suffering from the condition are discriminated against and persecuted in many African countries.

Such ritual killings have also occurred in neighbouring Burundi and some of the attackers are suspected to be from Tanzania, where albino body parts can fetch thousands of dollars.

Police parade 2-month old baby, teenager, others for robbery

ABEOKUTA —There was a mild drama, yesterday, at the Ogun State Police Command, at Eleweran, Abeokuta, when a two-month old baby, Oyinkansola Adeosun, was paraded alongside her mother, Fausat Adeosun for alleged involvement in robbery and death of no fewer than five people.

Two other members of the same family; Tobi Adeosun,15, and Iyabode Adeosun were also paraded for allegedly aiding and abetting their brother, Ismail Adeosun, 26, who had been declared wanted by the police for his alleged involvement in the cases.

The State Police Commissioner, Ikemefuna Okoye, who paraded 30 suspects for various crimes said the four suspects were arrested by the police on Monday when his men stormed Ago-Ika, Abeokuta residence of the suspects where a locally made gun was recovered.

The commissioner, however, said investigation had commenced, saying that as soon as it was concluded the suspects would be charged to court.

The commissioner said: “This woman has been keeping gun for her husband and his 15-year-old brother is the armourer of the gang.

“One Tobi is the armourer of the gang and Ismail’s wife has been keeping her husband’s arms and ammunition before luck ran out on them”.

Speaking with newsmen, one of the suspects, Tobi Adeosun said it was his brother , Ismail that committed the offence, before they arrested all the family members including the two month old baby.

According to Tobi, Fausat has been keeping the gun for her husband, I was only brought to the scene to relocate the arms when the police invaded the house.

“It was his wife who had been helping him to watch over his guns. That day when the police came, his wife, Fausat Adeosun called me to hide the gun behind a block beside the house, it was wrapped inside a cloth and when the police same, I told them everything and even took them to where the gun was hidden.

“At first I lied to the police because I was scared and I have never experienced such, I never knew my brother was a thief until that day,” he said.

When asked, the suspect’s wife and the mother of the two months old Oyinkasola, denied the knowledge of her husband’s robbery business but said that he (Ismail) operates a film house in Igbo-Ora area of OyoState.

Narrating her experience; Fausat said when she noticed that a gun was brought to the house, her husband threatened to kill her if she informed people about it.

“On Sunday, he came to me and I was away to church and I asked him whether he has removed his gun from my house because we don’t leave together but he said he and his friend, Danladi were around to pick the gun, I never knew he was a thief until he brought the gun to my house.

“He asked me whether I have told anybody and even threatened to kill me if I have informed anybody and that he will run away and leave me to suffer on his behalf, but I told him I never informed anyone

“Unfortunately, the police came on Monday and asked me of the gun but I told them his brother had taken it away, that was how I was arrested,” she said.

VATICAN CITY (Reuters)- - An Italian priest set fire to a photo of Pope Benedict during Sunday Mass in protest against his abdication, telling a shocked congregation that the former pontiff had abandoned his flock.

"It was wonderful," the Rev. Andrea Maggi from Santo Stefano Protomartire church in the small northern village of Castel Vittorio, told La Repubblica daily, defending his act.

He compared Benedict, who resigned as pope on Thursday, to Captain Francesco Schettino, who is accused of abandoning the Costa Concordia cruise ship that capsized off the Italian coast before all passengers were rescued.

Gian Stefano Orengo, mayor of the municipality in the northwestern Liguria region, told Italian radio the action had prompted half of the congregation to walk out.

"Before starting the homily, the priest took the photo of the pope and he said this is not a pope, this is not a shepherd, he abandoned his flock," Orengo said, adding that Maggi then used a candle flame set alight the photo of Benedict.

A six- year- old girl, Edidiong Etok Akpan, who was subjected to a harrowing treatment by her father, Edet Etok Akpan, was rescued after she had been locked up in a room with her hands tied and mouth covered with a piece of cloth for five days.

Edidiong said her 42-year-old father started beating her on Tuesday,19th of February, after one Prophetess Endurance, the pastor of the church they attend, told “my father that I was a witch and I was the one making him not to progress in life”.

She said after the severe beatings, which, according to her, lasted for two days, on Thursday, 21st February, her father tied her hands with a cord and covered her mouth with a piece of cloth and “locked me in the inner room of our house and he never gave me food and never allowed me to go to school ”.

The girl, who said she attends Femos Nursery and Primary School, located at 24 Etyin Abasi Street, Calabar, was dying after days without food or water when luck came her way on Sunday, 23rd February, at about 11 am, as another child who lives in the same with her family came to their veranda, looked through the window and saw Edidiong bound on the floor and screamed. “The girl called her parents and neighbours to come and see Edidiong tied like a goat inside their house”, Mr James Ibor of the Basic Rights Counsel, a child rights advocate lawyer, who was called to the scene, said.

Ibor said that when the neighbours saw the girl in that state, one of them called him and he, in turn, informed the officer in charge of legal matters at the Cross River State Police Command headquarters, Superintendent George, and they both drove to the place.

“As we were going there, we also informed the police at Efuk, Mbukpa to join us.When we got there, we saw a crowd outside and we knew that,that was the place and we went in and carried out the rescue by breaking the door”.

He said the girl was “very weak because she had been without food for days and so we had to give her water first, then, after about ten minutes, we gave her milk before solid food an hour later”.

Ibor said the father and mother had locked up the girl in the inner room of their two- room apartment and went to church in the hope that by the time they came back, the girl may have died. “God saved her and she is now living with her grandmother in another part of town,”the lawyer said.

DSP John Umoh, Cross River State Police Command spokesman, said the father, from Akwa Ibom State, had been arrested and would soon appear in court to answer charges of felony. “To tie a small girl hand and mouth and lock her in a room for days without food is a grievious offence; he (the father) will soon appear in court”, Umor added.

SEVEN months after a post-graduate student of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Miss Cynthia Osokogu was killed by friends she met on social media, Facebook, an undergraduate of Kogi State University, Lokoja, Kogi State, Oludoyi Bamidele Samuel, has been abducted by a kidnap syndicated, facilitated by a friend he also met on Facebook.

Samuel was, however, lucky, as he is alive to tell the story of how his supposed friend, identified as Michael (surname unknown) by the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, lured him from Enugu to Warri, DeltaState.


A kidnap gang facilitated by Michael, currently at large, held him hostage for three days before Police officers from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, stormed their hideout at Uzor Street, Agbarho, and seized three of the suspects.

They demanded N5 million ransom from Samuel’s mother to effect his release and were relocating him to another location when the police pounced on them. Commissioner Aduba gave the names of the suspects cooling off in police cell as Anibor Oghenekparabo, Onoriode Omamowho and Kelvin Orotoma.

Cynthia was killed in a hotel in Festac, Lagos, which she was lured to in July 2012, by her Facebook friends, but the intent of Samuel’s abductors was to extort money from his parents.

Mr. Aduba, who confirmed that Samuel has reunited with his Enugu-based parents said, “He was invited by a friend, identified as Michael, who he met on Facebook for a birthday party in Warri. They have not met face to face before this incident, but have been chatting on the internet. He must have found out his background through his interaction with him on the social media.”

“So, they plotted how to abduct him and make money. Samuel, the only son of his parents, who his kidnappers believe are well to do, left his parents in Enugu without telling them where he was going to and entered a vehicle to Warri. “He (Samuel was discussing with Michael on phone and called him on when he got to Warri, but his so-called friend had ulterior motive. He had arranged with others to kidnap him and Samuel was whisked to a house at Uzor Street, Agbarho, where he was held hostage for three days,” Aduba asserted.

Saturday Vanguard was told that Samuel was dumbfounded by the entire affair, as he was kept incommunicado in a compound that had other residents.

His break came when some persons, who suspected the movement of the suspected kidnappers, got in touch with the police.

The suspects also decoded that their secret had been uncovered and arranged to move the victim, but the police struck at the nick of time.

Commissioner Aduba was, however, disturbed that people could leave their homes to visit so-called friends they met on Facebook without proper security check.

“I do not understand this; I am warning young men and women to stop this behavior. How can you leave your home to go a birthday party by somebody you do not know, all because both of you met on Facebook, this is ridiculous.

“People should help the police by being security conscious. Can you imagine, he left Enugu without telling his parents and the suspected kidnappers were using his phone to call his parents, asking for ransom,” he said.
