The European Union has given the green light for the sale of a medication that will help quench the urge for alcoholics to drink, the companies behind the new treatment said Thursday.

Selincro, developed by Finland's Biotie Therapies, reduces "alcohol consumption by approximately 60 percent" or about a bottle of wine a day after six months, Danish drugmaker Lundbeck said.

With the go-ahead from the European Commission, Lundbeck, which will manufacture the medication, said it expects to launch Selincro by the middle of this year.

Selincro is mainly aimed at reducing alcohol dependence in adults who drink heavily -- consuming up to six drinks a day -- but who do not suffer from withdrawal symptoms or need detoxification.

"Selincro is thought to reduce the reinforcing effects of alcohol, and thereby reduces the urge to drink alcohol," Lundbeck said.

Lundbeck said excessive alcohol consumption is a world-wide problem, especially in Europe where it said more than 14 million people are dependent on alcohol.

OWERRI,NIGERIA-The Anti Crime Squad of Imo State Police Command has arrested a 30-year old man, Onyebuchi Ejimkonye, for allegedly raping a four-year old girl, Chinasa Dickson, to death.

The poor little girl was on her way to school when she was ambushed by Ejimkonye, who mercilessly subjected her to a marathon sex in a nearby bush and she died on the spot.

On the death of little Chinasa, the CP explained that some villagers, who were passing close to the scene of the crime sensed that something fishy was going on and sought to find out what it was.

“Ejimkonye, who hails from one of the communities in Oru East local council area of Imo State, was on the verge of burying the little girl in a shallow grave when he was nabbed by the villagers”, the CP said.

According to the Imo police boss, the villagers quickly alerted his men, adding that the suspect was arrested on the spot.

“The lifeless body of the unfortunate child has been recovered but post mortem examination was yet to be conducted”, the CP recounted with grief.

Answering questions from journalists, Ejimkonye gave a graphic account of how he committed the heinous crime but blamed the entire incident on “devil’s work”.

‘This year, business is a lot worse, because only those born in the year of the snake love the animal.
'The snake sign is a symbol of fear. People get scared when they see or hear the snake.’

The couple, had four children ages 16, 14 and 12, who are girls along with a boy of nine-years-old.

The couple separated in 2010. While going through the divorce and custody issues, the man found out that he was not the father of his three daughters, although their son is his.

Even more bizarre: all three girls have different fathers.

But the worst yet to come, even after learning that the kids who he loved and raised as his own were not his, the judge ordered him to pay his former wife child support for all the children.

Since he is the only father the children have known and he raised them as his own, he is responsible as if he was the father.

In another case, a man named, Pasqualino Cornelio, was paying child support for his twins, but he later demanded DNA testing. When he found out that he was not the father of the twins, now 16, the judge ordered that he has to continue paying child support.

2. Yelizaveta “Liza” Gryshchenko had just turned six when she gave birth to a stillborn baby girl in the Soviet Union in August 1934. The infant’s father was Liza’s 69-year-old maternal grandfather. The family emigrated after the scandal.

3. A six-year-old girl, known only as ‘H’ gave birth to a daughter by caesarean section in June 1972 in Delhi, India. She was initially admitted to hospital with what was thought to be an abdominal tumour.

4. An unidentified Indian girl died during childbirth, along with her baby, in August 1933. She was just eight years old.

5. Griseldina Acuña, from Colombia, reportedly began menstruating at three and gave birth to a baby boy in September 1936, aged eight years and two months. The father is thought to have been a family friend.

6. Mum-Zi, from the island of Calabar in Nigeria, became a mother aged eight years and four months in August 1884. Her daughter also gave birth at a very young age, making Mum-Zi a grandmother aged 17. Both were part of Chief Akkiri’s harem.

A raid on an illegal animal slaughterhouse in Taiwan uncovered 435 dog joysticks in a fridge. There is speculation the joysticks were intended to be used as an ingredient in a herbal wine sold to boost male potency.

Although dog meat may once have been considered a Taiwan delicacy, the practice of selling dog meat is now illegal. During a raid on an illegal abattoir animal disease officials in Taiwan found the fresh corpses of 12 dogs.


Naharnetreported the presence of dog collars indicating some of the slaughtered animals may have been family pets.


In addition to the corpses the raid uncovered dried dog joysticks and testicles in the slaughterhouse fridge. They may have been retained to be sold as an ingredient in local herbal wines which are drunk in the belief they may enhance male potency.

According to Doubtful News various animal testicles and joysticks are used in traditional Chinese medicine as an aphrodisiac. NCBI reported that during

the 1990′s Taiwan received international censure for adding tiger penis soup to restaurant menus to satisfy the belief that it would increase male virility.


The slaughtehouse owner could now face a huge fine and up to a year in prison. On a brighter note two live dogs were rescued during the raid.

Google offers $3.14159 in cash rewards to any hacker who can crack its Chrome operating system

Google is so confident in security on the company's Chrome operating system its offering $3.14159 in cash rewards for successful hacks of the system at this year's Pwnium hacking contest.

The figure is a nod to pi, an irrational number that has intrigued mathematicians for thousands of years.
Previously the tech giant has offered reward of $1 million and $2 million to crack its systems.

The most likely outcome is that multiple hacks momentarily compromise the system with several contestants earning up to $100,000 each, or $150,000

should their hack survive a system reboot.

For a hack to count, it must be delivered via webpages on a basic-model Samsung 550 Chromebook over a Wi-Fi connection.



'We believe these larger rewards reflect the additional challenge involved with tackling the security defenses of Chrome OS, compared to traditional operating systems,' Google Chrome developer Chris Evans wrote.

For some commercial hackers who only sell their secrets to the highest bidder the change was welcome.

For Pwnium, contests can keep their true identities a secret. A teenager only identified as Pinkie Pie - a name shared by a My Little Pony character -
has won $60,000 at each Pwnium.

Niche: Though Google believes its operating system is solid, its market share is so small it hasn't had a real world field test

'Kidnapped' millionaire found after eight months with “thief” carved into his forehead

A businessman missing for more than eight months has told police he was kidnapped and tortured by Russian gangsters.

Property tycoon Kevin McGeever had the word “thief” carved into his forehead and was kept in a “darkened container” because he owed money to Russian gangsters and the IRA, he claimed.

Mr McGeever, 68, made the sensational claims during interviews with police after he was taken in by a woman who found him wandering barefoot and disorientated on a remote country road in Ireland.

Yesterday he was being protected by armed police in hospital.

Mysteriously, Catherine Vallely, 64, who found him, said he also told her his abduction was a case of mistaken identity.

According to Ms Vallely, he was “skin and bones” with three-inch nails and a long beard.

She added: “He didn’t even know the month, day or time. But he was well-spoken and polite.”

She said she thought “he might have Alzheimer’s”.

He had a black plastic sheet over his clothes and wore a cap pulled down over his face.

He was in such a state the carving in his forehead was not noticed at first.

Detectives in Ireland are now investigating the developer’s claims that he owed money related to property transactions – some believed to have been in Dubai in the boom – to a Russian gang and the IRA.

In a partial statement Mr McGeever said he had been snatched from the garden of his £2.5million mansion home in Craughwell, Co Galway, by three masked men.

The businessman, who fronted KMM Properties and owns a helicopter and a fleet of luxury cars, said the men had demanded a ransom but he did not know if it was paid.

Ms Vallely said she found Mr McGeever, who was reported missing last May by his partner Siobhan O’Callaghan, on a road in Co Cavan 100 miles from his home.

In her car, he contacted a friend who arranged that they would meet in a hotel. She said: “I thought there’s no way a hotel would let this man inside.”

She added: “On the way, he said he had been in a van and three people had thrown him out of it because of mistaken identity.

"But I just thought he might have Alzheimer’s or something like that.”

In the end Ms Vallely drove Mr McGeever to a police station, where detectives discovered he had been missing for eight-and-a-half months.

They say they are looking into “every aspect” of the case and could not yet confirm any of Mr McGeever’s claims.

13-year-old Bingzhe from Dongguan, Guangdong Province, has been living and sleeping together with a gigantic python ever since he was a baby.

Bingzhe’s father said that the black python has been a family pet for 19 years, Yangcheng Evening News reported. After Bingzhe was born,

the non-venomous constrictor became the boy’s nanny since both of his parents were busy working.Bingzhe was nine months old when the 20kg python started to sleep in

the same bed with the boy. The unlikely pair has been best friends ever since.

They play and have fun together. And during hot summer nights the snake’s cold body is a natural air conditioner for the boy who likes to use it as a pillow.

The pet python is currently 4-meters long and weighs nearly 100 kilograms – big enough to swallow an adult human. But according to the boy’s father, the constrictor is

very tame and has never hurt anyone.

Bingzhe, who hopes to become an animal expert when he grows up, wishes that as the Year of the Snake nears, people won’t eat as much snake meat.

Customs officials are trying to get to the 'bottom' of this case of suspected drug smuggling.

Authorities in the US stopped two women as they tried to enter the country - allegedly wearing nappies stuffed with COCAINE.

Priscilla Pena and Michelle Blassingale flew into New York from the Dominican Republic and were held after a drugs dog became suspicious.

An initial search of Pena's luggage failed to find anything, the New York Post reported.

But a closer inspection revealed both women were allegedly wearing nappies taped full of cocaine.

The pair were charged with smuggling approximately 6.5k of the drug, which has a street value of more than £220,000.

A young mother from Wuhan Province has cause controversy after putting a leash around her son’s neck so he wouldn't get lost.

Reporters of Changjiang Daily noticed a peculiar sight at Jianghan Road, Hankou City – a young mother walking with her 3-year-old son who had a leash tied around his neck as if he was a dog, CNS wrote.

When the reporters approached the 20-something-year-old woman, she told them, "I'm afraid the child will wander off!"

The mother explained that children are often very naughty and running so fast that it’s hard to catch up with them. So she prefers to use a leash to prevent her son from wandering off and getting lost.

Although safety leashes and harnesses for children are not uncommon, they are usually not attached to the child's neck. “Seeing such a mother is really incredible. Trouble may follow later,” onlookers, worried about the boy's safety, told reporters.

Iran has unveiled a brand new finger-amputating machine that it will use in its increasingly strict punishment of thieves.

Photographs published by Iran’s official press agency show a blindfolded man having his fingers severed by what appears to be a crude amputation device.

According to the Insa news service, the man had been convicted of theft and adultery in a court in Shiraz the previous week.

In the four images, two masked me dressed entirely in black hold the man’s hand in a device while another turns a wheel that operates a rotary saw style blade.

In none of the images does the man appear to express any pain, suggesting he may have been drugged before the amputation.

(Reuters) - Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has decreed a four-day working week for public officials, making Friday a day of rest to allow residents in the small West African state more time for prayer and agriculture.

Jammeh said in statement the decision was made in light of demand from the general public. The shorter working week will take effect from February 1.

The new public sector working times in Gambia, a sliver of land stretching inland from the West African coast along the river Gambia, will be Mondays to Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"This new arrangement will allow Gambians to devote more time to prayers, social activities and agriculture - going back to the land to grow what we eat and eat what we grow for a healthy and wealthy nation," the presidential statement said.


Though it has a secular state, Gambia's population is overwhelmingly Muslim. Jammeh seized power in the popular European tourist destination in a bloodless military coup in 1994.

“The 42-year-old fireworks maker from the central Chinese province of Hunan was photographed last weekend performing his signature trick: Suspending two water buckets with a combined weight of 9 pounds on plastic hangers hooked to his eyelids for a minute.


Wang says he is hoping to increase the amount of weight he can carry with his eyelids.


Wang entertained local migrant workers at a provincial festival near his hometown of Liuyang Saturday.

“When I first started it was extremely painful,” Wang told NBC News about his unique talent, “but after a lot of practice it’s just uncomfortable today.”

Among other talents he’s developed for the show? Having two men wrap a metal wire tightly around his neck while he talks to the audience, which he says has been in the thousands.

Wang, who is married with two children, said he has been doing his eyelid trick for five to six years and started doing it purely out of boredom.

But as he increased the weight on his eyelids, he started to train – practicing for 30 minutes each morning and two hours at night.

Wang’s family initially frowned upon his hobby, but slowly came around as his stature grew within the community.

Man with 100-pound scrotum REJECTS offers to perform $1 million corrective surgery for free because his giant organ has made him famous

A Las Vegas man who suffers from a rare condition that made his scrotum swell to 100 pounds is basking in the fame that his giant organ has brought him.


In fact, the attention is proving so intoxicating that Wesley Warren Jr turned down an offer to perform the $1 million corrective surgery for free because he would have had to give up the rights to his story. A second doctor has agreed to waive most of the cost for the procure, but Mr Warren still hasn’t taken him up on the offer.

The watermelon-size scrotum Mr Warren carries between his legs has landed him on the Howard Stern Show and the Comedy Central program Tosh.0 and made him a local celebrity in his hometown.

When Mr Warren spoke with a reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal in October, he became emotional as he described the pain and humiliation of carrying the deformed genitals. He said he suffered from deep bouts of depression and health complications.

He must wear a hooded sweatshirt on his legs when he’s out of public to contain his enormous scrotum. His penis is buried so deeply in the abnormal growth that he is forced to urinate on himself.


He only wanted, he said six months ago, to urinate like a normal man and have a romantic relationship with a woman.

Mr Warren, 47, claimed he was going public to raise money so he could afford the operation — which would require a trip to a special surgeon at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center.

‘I don’t like being a freak, who would?’ he told the Review-Journal.


Fast-forward six months after Mr Warren’s story spread across the globe. He grinned as he told the same reporter about his appearance on Tosh.0.

‘It was fun going to Los Angeles in the big van they sent for me,’ he said.

Most disturbing, is his reaction to an offer he received from Dr Mehmet Oz, the celebrity physician whom Oprah made famous.


Mr Warren claims the Dr Oz Show said it would pay for the entire surgery at a top-notch hospital. However, the show would keep exclusive rights to tell Mr Warren’s story.

The massive swelling is caused by fluid building up in his scrotum. Doctors must remove the excess tissue and then completely rebuild his scrotum.


There’s also a chance, and not a small one, that complications could force the surgeons to cut off his penis and testicles if his scrotum won’t stop bleeding.

Dr Joel Gelman, a University of California, Irvine surgeon, who has ‘never lost a patient or a testicle’ while performing the operation has offered to fly to Nevada and perform the procedure for free, as well, the Review-Journal reports.


Mr Warren still hasn’t followed through with Dr Gelman.


The extremely rare condition, called scrotal elephantiasis, is much more common in Africa and Southeast Asia, where it is caused by parasites, than it is in the western world.

Brazilian gardener discovers phallus-shaped fruit in backyard

A vine producing penis-shaped passion fruit has been discovered by a gardener in the Brazilian city of San Jose de Ribamar, in the country’s north. Normally round, the fruit is native to South America and its tart pulp can be found flavoring everything from sweet desserts to caipirinhas, the Brazilian national cocktail.

Although none of the penis-shaped variety are ripe yet, the woman who grew them, Maria Rodrigues de Aguiar Farias, 53, told the news site G1 so many visitors want to see the plants that she’s started charging admission.

"I charge two reals to look, 15 for taking photographs, and 20 to shoot video," she said. (That's a little over $1 to see, $9 for a snapshot and $12 for video).

A local government plant expert has examined the fruit and pronounced it healthy, G1 reported. While it remains to be seen how good the plant’s pulp tastes, the shape itself shouldn’t be a reason to shy away, said Marcelo Cavallari, with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation.

On the contrary. “It's pretty big, it's pretty thick,” Cavallari said. “It may even reach 15 to 20 cm in length.”

Holy Cow Born With White Cross On Forehead

A “Holy Cow” Moses was born last week at a dairy farm in Sterling, Connecticut. Moses
was born with an unique “birthmark” that looks like a white cross on its forehead.


His owner, Brad Davis, told WFSB-TV he thought the marking may be a message from above,
though he is still trying to work out what that message might be. Ric Grummer, the chairman
of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Dairy Science, told the Norwich Bulletin
newspaper it is not unusual for a Holstein cow to have a white marking on its head.

Mother jailed for beating son to death for failing to memorise Qur'an

Sara Ege, who claimed the devil urged her to beat the seven-year-old, told she will serve at least 17 years in prison


Sara Ege, who has been given a life sentence after beating her seven-year-old son to death and then setting fire to his body.

A mother who beat her seven-year-old son to death for failing to learn the Qur'an by heart and burned his body in an attempt to hide her crime has been jailed for life.


Sara Ege, 33, collapsed and had to be helped sobbing from the dock after being told she would serve 17 years before she could be considered for parole.

Ege treated her son Yaseen "like a dog" when he struggled to memorise passages of the holy book of Islam, Cardiff crown court heard. Over three months, she beat him until he collapsed on the floor of his bedroom — still mumbling verses — and died.

Ege used barbecue lighting gel to set fire to the boy's body. Initially, emergency services believed he had been killed in a blaze at the family home in the Welsh capital. But a postmortem revealed he had died before the fire started and had suffered multiple injuries to his body including broken ribs, a fractured arm and a fractured finger.

A serious case review, published after Ege was jailed, revealed that staff at Yaseen's school had been concerned on "one or two occasions" about the boy but their worries had not been passed on to children's services or police.

Several agencies and individuals worked with Ege but the serious case review said there was "no co-ordinated plan" and the extent of her "social and cultural isolation" – and the possibility that Yaseen might be at risk – were not realised or understood.

It highlighted that agencies had been made aware on two occasions of allegations that Yaseen had suffered domestic abuse. On the first occasion, the allegations were not passed on to the police; on the second, Ege declined offers of intervention.

In court, the jury heard that Ege, a mathematics graduate who had entered competitions as a girl to demonstrate her own knowledge of the Qur'an, had struggled to have a child. Before Yaseen was born, she suffered depression as a result of a series of miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies. After his birth, she had postnatal depression. The court also heard that she had difficult relationships with her husband, taxi driver Yousef Ege, 38, and her mother-in-law.

Despite all her problems, Ege was thought of as a good and loving mother who had done all she could to bring her son up well.

[b]It began to go wrong when Ege and her husband enrolled Yaseen in advanced classes at a mosque because they wanted him to become Hafiz – someone who memorises the Qur'an – hoping such status would bring honour to the family and improve their standing in the community.

He was given a three-month trial period at the mosque and told by his mother that he would have a new bicycle if he did well.

But Ege was not happy with the boy's progress and would hit him with a stick, a hammer, a rolling pin and a slipper as well as repeatedly punching him.

On the day of his death in July 2010, Yaseen was kept off school so that he could continue to try to learn his verses.

In a confession to police following her arrest, Ege said the boy collapsed after she had beaten him. Ege said: "He was breathing as if he was asleep when I left him. He was still murmuring the same thing over and over again."

When she went back to him, he was shaking and shivering. She did not seek medical help and the boy died. The woman then used barbecue gel to set fire to his body.

Ege told police she was "getting angry too much", adding: "I would shout at Yaseen all the time. I was getting very wild and I hit Yaseen with a stick on his back like a dog." She claimed she had been urged on by the devil and believed the stick she used to punish her son was possessed by an evil spirit.[/b]

Police: California teens spiked parents' shakes with sleeping pills so they could use Internet
Two California teenagers were arrested after they gave one of the girl's parents milkshakes spiked with prescription sleeping pills so she could use the Internet past her curfew, police said.

The medicated shakes worked, but the parents became suspicious when they woke up groggy the next morning, Rocklin police Lt. Lon Milka told The Sacramento Bee (http:///135xw8G) in a story Thursday. They obtained a drug kit from police so they could test themselves for tampering,


The tests came back positive, and the couple went back to police with the results. Their 15-year-old daughter and her 16-year-old friend were taken to Juvenile Hall on Saturday and booked on suspicion of conspiracy and willfully mingling a pharmaceutical with food, Milka said.



Milka said the younger girl told investigators that she thought her parents' Internet policy was too strict. Internet access at the family's home was shut off every night at 10, he said.

"The girls wanted to use the Internet, and they'd go to whatever means they had to," he said.

Paul Mason, 51, once weighed an incredible 70 stone - almost half a ton - and firefighters had to demolish the front of his house so he could be removed using a fork lift truck and taken to hospital.
But after NHS surgery two years ago, the former postman from Ipswich, Suffolk, has slimmed to only 25 stone.

He added: 'My skin splits. The skin behind my knee tears because of the weight of the excess skin.'
Mr Mason is now writing a book about his experience and looking into the prospect of consultancy work, talking to people about eating disorders.

He has also started his own jewellery business and says he wants to work towards a life where he can learn to drive, go on holiday and settle down with a partner.

Mr Mason said: 'I've always been interested in the jewellery.

'Eventually, when I'm a lot more mobile and don't need the wheelchair, I will have a proper work shed and a kiln and will melt down scrap silver - and make my own custom-made silver.'

'He hopes to sell his work online and at a stall in Ipswich town centre.

Mr Mason ballooned to his incredible size by eating ten times the amount needed by a normal man due to a compulsive eating disorder.

He claimed his binge eating began in his 20s at the time of his father's death and a deterioration in his mother's health.

Mr Mason quit his job as a postman when his weight prevented him from completing his deliveries.

As his weight soared he was left unable to stand or walk before finally becoming bed-ridden and being looked after full time by council carers.

Firefighters had to demolish the front wall of his former home so they could drive a fork lift truck inside to lift him out and put him into an ambulance when he needed a hernia operation in 2002.

Mr Mason was later given a purpose-built housing association home with extra wide doorways so he could move around.

His care bill cost taxpayers an estimated £100,000 a year and is believed to have topped £1million.

At the height of his food addiction, he was gorging an entire packet of bacon, four sausages and four eggs complete with bread and hash browns for breakfast.

He would then eat quadruple portions of fish and chips along with two kebabs for lunch followed by a roast dinner, curries or pizza and more chips in the evening.

Mr Mason would also eat up to 40 packets of crisps, sausage rolls and pasties as snacks during the day.

His weight loss has meant he is able to go out and about again in his motorised wheelchair, and can walk short distances.

Making healthy food choices is often difficult and confusing,but there are a number of specific foods to avoid in almost every circumstance because they provide virtually no health benefits while posing plenty of health risks. Here are nine foods you should never eat again if you care about preserving your long-term health…

White bread, refined flour

These are generally toxic for the body because they have been stripped of virtually all vitamins, minerals, fibre, and other important nutrients. They are not properly digestable and assimilated. Refined white flour has also been bleached with chlorine and brominated with bromide, two poisonous chemicals that have been linked to causing thyroid and organ damage.

Tip: Choose brown bread or whole wheat bread over white bread. Reduce consumption of patries made from white flour.

Conventional frozen meals

With the exception of a few truly healthy frozen meal brands, most conventionally-prepared frozen meals are loaded with preservatives, processed salt, hydrogenated oils and other artificial ingredients, not to mention the fact that most frozen meals have been heavily pre-cooked, rendering their nutrient content minimal.


Tip: As much as possible, eat meals in their fresh, unpreserved state.

White rice

Like white bread, white rice has been stripped of most of its nutrients, and separated from the bran and germ, two natural components that make up rice in its brown form. Even so-called “fortified” white rice is nutritionally deficient, as the body still processes this refined food much differently than brown rice, which is absorbed more slowly, and does not cause the same spike in blood sugar that white rice does.

Tip: Eat “unpolished” rice as much as possible in place of the “parboiled” or “polished” variety.

Microwaveable popcorn

This processed food which is a favourite among moviegoers and regular snackers is one of the unhealthiest foods you can eat. Practically, every component of microwaveable popcorn is unhealthy and disease-promoting. It contains a chemical known as diacetyl that can actually destroy the lungs.

Cured meat products

Deli meats, sausage, hot dogs, bacon, and many other meats are often loaded with sodium nitrite and other chemical preservatives linked to causing heart disease and cancer.

Tip: Have preference only for fresh, uncured meats.

Conventional protein, energy bars.

These are meal replacements containing processed soy protein, refined sugar, hydrogenated fat, and other harmful additives that contribute to chronic illness.

Margarine

Hidden in all sorts of processed foods, margarine, a hydrogenated trans-fat oil, is something you will want to avoid at all costs for your health. Contrary to popular belief, butter and saturated fats in general are not unhealthy, especially when they are derived from pastured animals that feed on grass rather than corn and soy.

Tip: Extra-virgin coconut oil or olive oil are much better than margarine.

Soy milk and soy-based meat substitutes

Nearly all non-organic soy ingredients are of genetically modified origin, most soy additives are processed using a toxic chemical known as hexane, which is linked to causing birth defects, reproductive problems, and cancer. Unfermented soy is also highly estrogenic, which can distort hormone balance.

”Diet” products

Many so-called “diet” products on the market today contains artificial sweeteners like aspartame and sucralose, both of which are linked to causing neurological damage, gastrointestinal problems, and endocrine disruption. Many diet products also contain added chemical flavoring agents to take the place of fat and other natural components that have been removed to artificially reduce calorie content.

Tip: Stick with whole foods that are as close to nature as possible, including high-fat foods grown the way nature intended, and your body will respond surprisingly well.

I fed Okonjo-Iweala’s mum with bread, groundnuts – Suspect


ASABA — A member of the 10-man kidnap gang who earlier this month abducted the 82-year-old Prof, Kamene Okonjo, mother of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, yesterday, confessed his involvement in the abduction and narrated how he fed the retired professor of sociology with groundnut, water and bread in the kidnappers’ den.

The suspected kidnapper, Andrew Dime, aka Olokpa, 32, who hails from Enikorogha in Edo State, however, told Vanguard that he was only hired by the second-in-command of the gang to supply food to Prof. Okonjo on two occasions at a fee of N100,000.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, on the other hand, told Vanguard that Prof. Okonjo was kept in the custody of the suspect, who was in-charge of her feeding.

The second-in-command of the gang allegedly swindled him when he bolted with his N1 million share of the ransom collected for the release of Prof. Okonjo.

Apparently, to settle scores, the police said the suspect formed a new kidnap gang, which abducted an octogenarian at Aboh in Ndokwa area of the state. But having obtained a database on the group after its leader, Nwaeze Nwosa, aka Bolaji was shot dead in Asaba, the police were able to track down the suspect.

Aduba told Vanguard that the police set a trap for him when it got information that he was in dire need of money for the yuletide by convincing him to sell one of the guns used for the abduction of Prof. Okonjo, which was in his custody. He fell for the trap and negotiated a price of N300,000 for a pump-action gun with a police officer, who posed as a buyer. He was, thereafter, arrested at Koka junction, Asaba, when he came to collect the cash.

Dark-complexioned Andrew, who spoke to Vanguard in an interview, debunked the claim that he formed a new kidnap gang and that he was the one that negotiated the sale of pump-action gun, which was used to ensnare him.

A police source said he was being economical with the truth, adding: “Most of these people (referring to criminals) will never tell you the truth when you arrest them until you get other members of the gang to confront them.”

What is your name?
Andrew Idime.

How old are you?
32.

Where are you from?
I am from Enikorogha, Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Where do you live?
I live at Army Barracks, Onitsha.

Do you know why you are here in police cell?
For now, I know why I am arrested. Some friends of mine, they indulged themselves in kidnapping act. One of them is Chiboy and another is Biggy. The person I know very well is Chiboy. It was through this Chiboy that I met Biggy. I was trading on used shoes and my business was not moving well. So Chiboy called me that there is something that I was going to do. I asked him what it was, he said there was somebody I was going to drop food for and that I was going to drop food twice and that they would settle me. Therefore, I went there truly, he brought an Okada man (motorcyclist), the Okada man took me there, and I dropped the food twice.

He said that if I dropped the food there that he was going to call them. That if I dropped the food, I should call to let him know that I have dropped the food beside that bridge on that Kwale road. That when I dropped the food, they would come and take the food. I went there twice and dropped the food at that particular spot. They said they were going to give me N100,000. But the N100,000 I did not see it.

Were you not told who was kidnapped?
I do not know the exact person they kidnapped. They did not tell me. I am a neutral person. My job there was to go and drop the food.

Did you not know you were doing wrong thing as the person was in the hospital?
No, he said that his boys need food so I should go and drop groundnut, bread and water for them.

Why did he send you, why did he not drop the food himself?
He is a leader. He said he wants me to, at least have some token in the business.

Which business are you talking?
He said he had involved himself in kidnapping business

Which means you were told what they actually did?
They told me.

Are you saying you do not know when you were dropping the food that you will be counted as one of them if caught?
Yes, I knew.

So, why did you take part?
It is because of my condition

What is your condition?
I am not living well; my business is not moving well. I needed little money to assist my business.

What we heard was that Prof. Okonjo was kept in your custody?
No, no, no, I swear to God. I do not live in Delta State.

You have a house in Asaba?
Of course, I have a house but I have checked out for a long time based on the rent. The house was too costly for me

You said you were neutral, then, tell us what Chiboy and others told you about how they kidnapped Prof. Okonjo?
Until they rounded up their business, even up to date, I have not seen Chiboy. I was holding one of his numbers, but right now, the number is not going through.

There is no way you would be asked to go and drop food for somebody that was kidnapped without you asking or finding out the story of how the person was kidnapped. What exactly were you told?

They only told me they have kidnapped somebody and that the person is at Kwale. That what I am going to do is to take the food to a particular bridge, that if I get to that bridge, I should flash him and he was going to call his boys. That if I dropped the food, I should not delay there. That I should drop the food, enter the bike immediately and move.

Were you taking bike from Onitsha to that place?
No, he was the person that brought the bike, not from Asaba. I entered bus to Ibusa and from Ibusa, he would now bring the bike. The bike person, it seems, is his private bike man, so the bike person would now take me to there.

From the story that you have told so far, it seemed you were party to the kidnapping?
I have involved myself already because of my going there to give them food, which has already made me a party. However, I do not know the exact person that they kidnapped but I have involved myself in this act.

You were arrested when you came to sell a gun?
No, the boy that wanted to sell the gun ran away.

Tell us how sharing of money brought misunderstanding among the kidnappers?
In bringing of food, he (Chiboy, the leader) told me to bring the food twice.

Did you buy food with your money?
He bought it; he was the one that brought the money. He does not reside in one place. He promised that he was going to give me N50,000 each. So, I accepted to go and drop and collect N50,000 because it was an easy one. Therefore, I went there twice. However, when they brought the money I did not see him. The N100,000 they promised as my share I did not see. Who am I to go and challenge him?

How were you arrested?
The police arrested me yesterday (last Thursday) because there was one of my friends, Chuks. He said that based on this Christmas period, that he does not have money and that he wanted to sell one of his pump actions. So he negotiated with one boy, so when the boy came, they were three in the car. He told me to go and inform them to drop and come out so that they would negotiate. I was to tell them to off the motor engine and that Chuks was waiting down there. Therefore, when they grabbed me, he ran away. In the process when I was asking what’s all about, I was arrested.

We learnt you also involved yourself in another kidnapping, what is your role in the new kidnap gang?
My role was to be with the man in the bush. I was supposed to stay in that bush with the victim
