One Chinese man found out that he has not just two, but four kidneys. )

A man who needed treatment for kidney stones found out that he has more kidneys than usual.

A 30-year-old man surnamed Chen from Huangshi, Hubei Province was told by his doctor that he has kidney stones in September, reported people.com.cn.

He was sent to a hospital in Daye to get treatment for the kidney stones, but further examination revealed that he had a few kidneys too many, wrote Global Times Doctors told Chen that he has not two, but four fully functional and healthy kidneys..


“I had no idea I had so many kidneys,” Chen said, according to local media.

Double kidneys occur in approximately 1% of the population, according to PubMed. People born with extra kidneys often won’t even realize it.

Niaz Ahmad, a transplant surgeon at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds, told The Guardian that it’s rare for additional kidneys to be fully formed. “One in a million is probably about right,” Ahmad said to the newspaper.

Freiberg Archbishop Robert Zollitsch, chairman of the German Bishop’s Conference, is convinced that the son of God would be as social media obsessed as his mortal counterparts.

“Jesus would certainly today be on Facebook and Twitter,” Zollitsch said to Ruhr Nachrichten newspaper. “He was always looking for people, and took unusual routes to do this.”

“Fundamentally all media are suited to bring the word of God to the people,” he said.

Jesus, were he to join in the social network, would undoubtedly have plenty of fans and followers.

A Tunisian man died after eating 28 raw eggs in one go for a bet.
Dhaou Fatnassi, 20, allegedly wagered a friend he could eat 30 raw eggs in a row, for which he would receive an undisclosed sum.
Mr Fatnassi, from Kairouan in north-east Tunisia, managed 28 eggs before he collapsed with severe stomach pains.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, local radio station Shems FM reported.


Whilst eggs cooked properly are a great source of protein and part of a healthy diet, raw eggs could cause food poisoning and may contain salmonella bacteria.
If you are making food demanding raw eggs, such as mayonnaise or ice cream, use pasteurised eggs to eliminate risks.

Saudi man marries four women from same school including a student

A Saudi Arabian man in his 50′s has taken the concept of having four wives to the extreme. He has married a student, her teacher, the school principal and school supervisor.

Al Arabiya reported on the unusual marital preferences of the unnamed Saudi man that has opted to marry four females representing the hierarchical order of a school. The age of the student was not reported, but she must answer to her teacher who in turn is answerable to the principal. The fourth wife oversees the school as a supervisor.

The teacher revealed that “the way she interacts with her husband’s wives at work is ‘no different’ to how she treats other students and superiors.”

According to the IB Times the marriages have raised eyebrows within the school. Schoolgirls have made the marriages a regular talking point.


Polygamy is culturally acceptable within Islam though women are denied the choice of taking four husbands. In 2010 a Saudi group of men initiated a campaign to encourage their fellow compatriots to take four wives in keeping with the Islamic edict. The campaign aimed to reduce the number of spinsters in the Kingdom.

A soldier stationed at Kabrit Barracks in Harare appeared in court last week facing charges of deliberately infecting his wife with HIV and forcing her to drink his urine.


Daniel Banda (31) of New Zengeza 4 denied the counts of deliberate transmission of HIV and assault when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Olivia Mariga. The magistrate remanded him in custody to August 8 for trial. Banda was asked to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Mr Henry Muringani told the court that on July 21, at around 6pm, Banda came back home from a bar and started accusing his wife (20) of gossipping about him to her parents. The court heard that he allegedly slapped her in the face twice before asking her where his knife was.

It is alleged that Banda asked his wife to choose between drinking his urine or being stabbed. Banda allegedly urinated in a container and handed it to his wife to drink after she opted to take the liquid.

After that, Banda alleged that his wife was possessed by demons and she needed deliverance using spiritual waters. He went on to give her water he fetched from the toilet chamber and forced her to drink it.

Thereafter, Banda, who was earlier tested HIV positive, received counselling together with his wife and were advised to have protected sex. But the court heard that Banda went on to defy the order by forcing his wife to be intimate with him without protection.

Breast cancer patients are benefiting from a new form of reconstructive surgery that uses tissues from pigs.

The procedure enables women to have reconstruction at the same time as their breast is removed, rather than having to undergo a second operation later on.

The animal tissue is processed so that it is not rejected by the body. After a tumour has been removed, a pocket is created from the pig tissue to hold the implant, which is then placed under the muscle.

Previously, to prepare for an implant following a mastectomy, a tissue expander would be used to make room for it.

The implant would then be put in at a later date when there was a large enough pocket to hold it.


It's already known that the structure of the pig collagen is very similar to a human’s. Doctors routinely repair large hernias using biological mesh made from pig tissue – dubbed ‘pigskin’ by some doctors.

But consultant breast surgeon at Southmead Hospital, Simon Cawthorn, said the graft of animal tissue eventually becomes part of a woman's body.

The technique was initially made available for patients in Bristol with a funding grant from Southmead Hospital breast cancer charity, Bust.


They funded ten of the procedures to help present the case for funding the method to NHS commissioners.

So successful was 'acellular derma matrix graft', as the procedure is known, it is now being offered to patients routinely.


Not only does it mean a women undergoes one operation rather than two, but the NHS saves money by reducing the need for theatres and beds.

Mr Cawthorne said: 'It is win-win all round. The results are good, the cosmetic outcomes are good and patients are very happy. It is routinely used in other parts of the body but the application to the breast is really new.'

It is hoped its success will allow further treatment to be made available on the NHS in future.

Mr Cawthorn told the BBC: 'All of the animal DNA is taken out of the tissue, it is safe and our patients like it.

'It is treatment best suited to small tumours, picked up early, on women with busts up to a C or D cup.

'Some patients tend not to want to take tissue from other parts of their body, so this is a good alternative.'

When Emma Nichols was diagnosed with breast cancer last December she was given the opportunity to have her mastectomy and reconstructive surgery in one procedure.

The mother of three boys, Jack, 19, Joe, 15, and Tommy, 10, was fortunate to be diagnosed quickly after discovering a lump in her breast.

Before surgery to remove the tumour, she was offered a reconstruction using the tissue matrix.

At the time, the procedure was not routinely available on the NHS locally, but after a grant was made by Southmead Hospital's breast care centre charity Bust.

Mrs Nichols, 43, said: 'Psychologically, to wake up and feel it was there, I don't think I could have gone through lots of operations afterwards.

'I was back to work within five weeks. I was lucky as I didn't need chemotherapy or radiotherapy.'

[b]The Lebanese Muslim Association says it arranged for a Christmas wish to be written in the sky above the country's biggest mosque, in response to reports it had banned Muslims from wishing people a happy Christmas.

Over the weekend, a message appeared on the Facebook page for Lakemba Mosque, saying that Muslims were forbidden from taking part in Christmas traditions or wishing people a merry Christmas.

The entry implied it was a fatwa, or Islamic ruling, and was based on a lecture given at the mosque during Friday prayers.

The Lebanese Muslim Association, which runs the mosque, says the comments were taken out of context and the group harbours no anti-Christmas sentiment.

Samier Dandan from the the Lebanese Muslim Association says a junior staff member of the association copied and pasted text from another website that the mosque had not endorsed.

"From our perspective this is an innocent mistake done by a youth member who's employed by this organisation," he said.

"We are basically not going to apologise for what I perceive to be an innocent mistake, which is not necessarily reflective of the true mindset and belief of this organisation."

This afternoon, the organisation arranged to have the words "Merry Xmas" written in the sky above Lakemba Mosque.[/b]

Earlier today, Islamic Friendship Association spokesman Keysar Trad said the fatwa was not valid, and described the Facebook remarks as damaging and divisive.

"These types of comments, unfortunately, do nothing to promote unity, and I'm glad they've been taken down," he said.

Ahmet Keskin from the Affinity Intercultural Foundation also spoke out against the comments.

"I have no problems passing on those well-wishes at times of Christmas," he said.

"We should be looking to pass on comments to build relations, so I think any opportunity that we can get it's always great to pass on those well-wishes, so that we can get closer and seek greater understanding of each other."

..A Social Security Administration worker has been cited by his superiors for 'conduct unbecoming a federal officer,' relating to his 'uncontrollable flatulence' in the workplace.
The Maryland man, 38, was reportedly hit with a five-page reprimand Dec. 10 that included a meticulously-crafted log of specific dates and times when coworkers observed - or overheard - him 'releasing the awful and unpleasant odor' in his Baltimore office.
The letter's log reportedly cited 17 dates - and 60 times - in which he passed so much gas the resulting miasma created an' intolerable' and 'hostile' workplace environment for those around him. For example, the man’s Sept. 19 output included nine bouts of flatulence, starting at 9:45 a.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m. A trio of incidents preceded on Sept. 11.[/b]


The letter does not reveal who memorialized the flatulence, according to The Smoking Gun.
But in the missive, an SSA manager reportedly notes, 'nothing that you have submitted has indicated that you would have uncontrollable flatulence. It is my belief that you can control this condition.' The employee had apparently submitted evidence to his superiors showing he suffered from “some medical conditions” that, at times, caused him to leave work early.
Contacted at his office, the employee told The Smoking Gun, 'I can’t talk to you about this, I’m sorry.'

Smallest Baby Ever Born

Amillia Taylor is the world’s youngest premature baby ever to survive. She was born two weeks before the legal abortion limit at just 9.5 inches long and less than 10 ounces with skin which tore like rice paper.
The baby was due on March 4, 2007, but, from the start, the pregnancy was fraught with problems and she had been born at just 21 weeks and six days.

According to Amillia’s mother, “I was so shocked, because her skin was so translucent that she was see-through. I could see the veins in her arms, hands and legs, and I could actually watch her lungs as they moved.

‘Amillia’s hand was the size of my thumbnail, and her leg the same length as my little finger.

‘I longed to reach out and touch her, just to stroke her and try to take away her pain. All I could do was sit and tell her that Mummy was here, that I loved her, and that everything would be alright.”

Woman dies of lung cancer after receiving transplant from smoker

Jennifer Wederell of Essex, England died from lung cancer in August.

A 27-year-old woman battling cystic fibrosis and clinging to life thought she got a second chance when she received a lung transplant in April 2011.

But the lungs were from a heavy smoker, and Jennifer Wederell, of England, contracted cancer and died the following year, BBC News reported.

"She was dying a death that was meant for someone else," said the young woman's father, Colin Grannell.

He says his daughter would have refused the transplant had she known the lungs came from a smoker.

But Wederell had no idea.

"The shock immediately turned to anger in so far as all the risks were explained in the hour before her transplant and not once was the fact that smoker's lungs would be used mentioned," Grannell said.

A Facebook page describes how the Essex woman married months before she was diagnosed with lung cancer in February 2012. That's when she learned her lungs came from someone who "smoked 20 cigarettes a day."

Despite Wederell's "fighting spirit," the disease had already spread throughout her body, and she was dead in August.

Harefield Hospital in London apologized to Wederell's family and called the situation an "oversight," but legally did no wrong.

Hospitals aren't required to divulge every detail about a potential donor's history, so long as the organ is healthy.

"You don't go through detailed histories of smoking, all that kind of stuff," Dr. Roblee Allen, professor of pulmonary and critical care medicine at UC Davis, told the Daily News. "You tell them that the patient is free of any diseases, but the specifics aren't necessarily reviewed."

There's also the issue of donor privacy, Allen said.

While doctors have access to the medical history, families don't always want their loved ones' private details shared with a stranger.

Organs up for donation often come from smokers.

"A lot of people have smoking histories and donate," Allen said. "Does that put them at significant risk of developing lung cancer? Yeah, it does."

"You might say, 'These are not ideal lungs,' but you might not get another opportunity," he added.

Arthur Caplan, head of medical ethics at NYU, says Wederell should have been notified about the donor's status as a smoker anyway.

"The burden is on the transplant team to disclose significant risks, not on the patient to remember to ask," Caplan told the Daily News.

Because transplant lists are so long and the need for organs is so great - Wederell waited 18 months - many patients jump at the first opportunity, regardless of the status of the organ.

"The real truth in transplants is that most people aren't going to pass up an organ - even a high-risk one - because they're so hard to get," Caplan said. "Especially lungs. They're rare."

Wederell's family launched a campaign called Jennifer's Choice to raise awareness about the organ shortage and encourage non-smokers to sign up as donors.

A man from Chicago, Illinois, was arrested after being caught fighting in a bar. The man was booked into jail and locked up in a cell.

23-year-old Gregg Greaves, was angry about his arrest. He decided to use the only ‘weapon’ available to him in the jail cell. He defecated in his hands and threw his feces at police officers.

Greaves was initially arrested after he allegedly attacked a man with a broken beer bottle.

According to Chicago police, Greaves was at Red Ivy Bar in Wrigleyville, when he jumped out from behind a bathroom stall and attacked a man with a broken beer bottle. The victim suffered deep cuts to his neck, chin and hands. A witness, who was also in the bathroom at the time, grabbed Greaves and held him down until police arrived to the scene. The 25-year-old victim was rushed to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was treated.

While officers were trying to process Greaves in a holding cell, he allegedly yelled obscenities at the officers and refused to wear pants. Greaves then defecated in his hands and threw his feces at the officers.

Greaves was charged with felony assault causing great bodily injury. So far no charges have been

added for assaulting the police officers with his feces.

Judge Edward Harmening ordered Greaves held on $500,000 bail.

Outside the courthouse, Greaves’ defense attorney, Kevin McCubbin, said: "All I've got to tell you there is two sides to it. We will fight this.” Greaves is originally from Indiana, but currently lives in Chicago. Greaves has a degree in industrial engineering and is employed. “Greaves has never been arrested before” McCubbin added.

CHINA - After undergoing a life-saving drug treatment, a 16-year-old girl from China woke up one day to find herself growing thick unsightly hair all over her body, making her look like a man.

According to a report by Xinhua, the girl's name is Nana, and she is from Jinhua, Zhejiang province.

She was diagnosed with a life-threatening form of aplastic anaemia in 2010 - a condition where the bone marrow is not able produce sufficient new cells to replenish blood cells.

According to the National Bone Marrow Donor Programme, people with very severe aplastic anaemia are at risk for life-threatening infections or bleeding.

"The doctor said that the condition was very serious and without treatment, she would die," the girl's mother told Xinhua. Nana could not eat and kept vomiting, worrying her family.

Her doctor quickly put her on a potent course of drug therapy, and two years later, her blood indicators have returned to normal. However, one shocking side-effect from the therapy is that Nana developed a rare condition called hirsutism.

Hirsutism - which is when women grow excessive hair on parts of their body where hair does not normally occur or is minimal - has caused Nana to grow a heavy beard and moustache.

"The doctor said that the medication would have very major side-effects. Within a month of taking the drugs, the hair on her arms and face started to thicken, and she even grew a beard," her mother said.

Blank eyes

When the Xinhua reporter met the girl, she was wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt, black pants and a face mask. She resolutely kept her head down and was reluctant to talk much.

Her strange appearance has caused the once lively girl to become a recluse.

Traumatised by her new appearance, Nana now refuses to leave the house and instead quietly hides in her room alone.

She owns no mirrors, and spends her time reading and doing homework.

According to the report, Nana used to be a daughter other mothers would admire.

Back then, she had fair and clear skin and was an excellent student, her grades having always placed her in the top five in her class.

Now all her mother hopes for is a speedy recovery for her daughter and that Nana will be able to return to school one day.

"Every day she cries, wanting to go to school," her mother said.

No money left for treatment

There are days when Nana will not speak a word, and increasingly, she spends her hours hidden in her room reading books by herself, the report said.

In addition, the family worries that the family savings will run out one day and that there will soon be no money for Nana to continue her treatment.

Her parents have so far spent about 300,000 yuan (S$58,662) on the medical treatment - largely financed by the sale of the family plot of land, which brought in about 100,000 yuan.

Nana's father toils away at odd jobs to earn money to support his family, but they still face the burden of a huge debt to clear and mounting medical expenses.

"The doctor said Nana initially could have been cured within three years. But we have no money, hence we have to keep reducing the amount of drugs administered, prolonging the treatment.

"My girl is not cured, but we have no money to see the doctor. My husband, daughter and I all feel very helpless," she told the reporter.

Ye Yanqi, a lecturer of psychology at Liming Vocational University, said unintentional erections are normal for teenagers and anyone disturbed by that fact should talk to their parents or seek advise from medical experts on how to control it.

Ten girls have been killed as they were collecting firewood outside their village in Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan.

The victims, aged between nine and 11 years old, were all from different families and two other girls were seriously injured and are in critical condition in hospital.

It was not immediately clear what caused the explosion - it could have been a bomb planted by Taliban insurgents or a landmine left over from decades of conflict.

The girls died when a landmine exploded while they were collecting firewood in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, officials said

They were walking through land near the porous border with Pakistan, which is infested with some of the world's most dangerous militant groups.


Women and children are often the victims of the war between the Taliban and U.S.-led NATO and Afghan forces, now in its eleventh year.

Many Afghans are growing increasingly worried that the nation could face another civil war or a major Taliban push to seize power again when most NATO combat troops withdraw by the end of 2014.

BEIJING (AP) — Chinese authorities have arrested a legislator found to have four wives.

A district official in the northern province of Shanxi said Li Junwen also had 10 children, and had been detained on suspicion of document forgery. Bigamy is a criminal offense in China, while rules restrict most couples to just one child.

Another 14 people were sacked or given warnings or demotions for negligence or helping Li arrange identity documents for his illegitimate children, said the official reached by phone at the Xiaodian district party committee in the provincial capital of Taiyuan.

The 43-year-old Li had been an appointed representative from Xiaodian and the Communist Party head of the village of Xiquan.

The allegations against Li have been featured prominently in state media as part of an anti-corruption drive.

Nigerians Travelling Abroad Must Take Polio Vaccine by 2013 – WHO

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that by May 2013, all Nigerians traveling abroad would be compelled to take the oral polio vaccine. This was noted by Dr. Ray Nihar, an official of the WHO yesterday in Kaduna.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Nihar said at the monthly review meeting of traditional rulers in Kaduna State involved in polio eradication campaign that WHO would issue a standing recommendation to all nations under the International Health Regulations.
He said children and adults traveling out of Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan must be certified as having been vaccinated against polio “to reduce the substantial risk of the virus spreading to polio-free countries.”

The WHO official also added that the report issued by the International Monitory Board on Polio revealed that “too many communities” regard polio vaccination as an imposition with no benefit. He said polio eradication was vital in affected countries, adding that neighbouring countries would not be safe.

In an interview with NAN, the Chief of Kagoro, Afuwai Bonet, urged legislators to participate in the fight against polio in their respective constituencies.

Bonet said compelling Nigerians traveling abroad to take the vaccine would be an embarrassment to Nigeria, including the legislators.

It is sad that Nigeria is still grappling with the effects of Polio and hasn’t completely eradicated the disease. Having to take polio vaccines or present evidence of vaccination, like the Chief said, would be an embarrassment to Nigerians. Hopefully, the relevant authorities would look into this to make speedy moves towards polio eradication.

Man with no face and woman with one leg have baby girl … who is perfectly healthy


A FATHER with no face who feared his unborn child would inherit his shocking condition is celebrating after his wife gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
Mohammad Latif Khatana, 32, and his wife Salima, 25, from Jammu and Kashmir in India, have been enjoying every moment with their newborn daughter.

Ulfat, meaning love in Urdu, was born naturally at home, in Reasi district, on November 10, weighing a healthy 5lbs 5oz.

As soon as Latif held his new daughter he quickly checked her over for any visible marks. But the new parents were overjoyed to find their little girl was healthy and unmarked.

Latif said: “I was extremely worried about my baby’s facial features. When I saw that she was pretty and fine, it was a great relief. She has a beautiful face, just like an angel.”

Latif explained his new daughter has brought joy into his life after years of misery because of his own disfigurement.

Latif suffers from a skin disorder, Neurofibromatosis, which means he has multiple flaps of skin covering his entire face, making him almost faceless.


He said: “I want to forget about my past life. Being a father is a new chapter in a man’s life and I am embracing every second of it. I will enjoy it and I’ll now be a lot more worried about her than myself. I don’t care so much about me anymore.”

When his wife Salima found out she was expecting, the pair suffered many sleepless nights worried whether Latif would pass on his condition.

Salima, who was born with just one foot, married Latif in August 2008. Latif struggled to find a wife for many years but when he met Salima, they bonded over their disabilities, and finally agreed to marry.



Latif said: “We had always wanted children but we were always too scared. In the end we took a chance but I prayed throughout the pregnancy that we had a healthy child. I didn’t care if it was a boy or girl as long as he or she didn’t have to hide its face in shame.

“When I finally heard my daughter’s cries, it was such a special moment, my heart was full of happiness.”

Latif and Salima would like more children, but their financial problems might not allow it. “I thank god for blessing me with a beautiful daughter and we’d love more children. But I don’t earn enough. No parent would want their child to suffer any health problems, but they do not want them to suffer financially either.”


Latif has taken to begging to support his family as his sight problems mean he cannot get a job. He travels to Kashmir’s capital city, Srinagar, every year for several months to make enough money to send home.

“I don’t want to leave my daughter but I don’t have much choice and I will have to leave in the Spring. I have to earn money to support my family and this is the only way I can,” he added.

Salima said Latif has been a wonderful husband and believes he will go on to make a great father.


She said: “No matter what Latif looks like, I love being married to him. I don’t regret one day as his wife. I like him just the way he is. His face is God’s wish, we can’t do much with it so we accept it and live our lives.



“But thankfully it was not the same wish for our daughter. Our prayers were answered and our baby is fine. We refuse to waste another minute worrying about it now. We will live our lives, happily.”

A woman was busted for carrying cocaine in her breast implants, according to police reports.


Spanish authorities say they have detained a Panamanian woman arriving at Barcelona Airport with 1.38 kilograms or 3 pounds of cocaine hidden in her breast implants.



The Interior Ministry said Wednesday that the border police noticed fresh scars and blood stained gauze on her chest and pale spots under her skin.

The woman said she had recently had breast implants surgery.


The statement said police suspected that something is wrong and sent her to a local hospital, where the implants were removed and found to contain cocaine.

She came to Spain from Bogota, Colombia.


The European authorities routinely subject passengers arriving from Latin America to strict controls to combat drug smuggling.

Woman forced to remarry unfaithful husband who threw acid in her face

A woman divorced her husband after she caught him cheating on her. After the divorce the husband decided to ruin her life so she won’t be able to marry another man.


Eight days after their divorce was final while she was cooking at home in Bangladesh, a motorcycle stopped in front of her and splashed her with acid, leaving her blind and disfigured. The man behind the attack was her former husband.

This woman's horrible scars serve as a permanent reminder of her husband’s cruelty. The couple had been married for 18 years and they have children together.


After the attack, Nurbanu’s former husband went into hiding. Police did not give up looking for him. He was captured ten months after the attack and was jailed for a year, according to reports.

After being in jail for one year, the former husband’s mother forced the victim to sign an affidavit giving permission for his release from prison.

"She made me sign an affidavit for his release. She used my children to convince me to marry him again,” 36-year-old Nurbanu, said. She now has to endure living with the person who ruined her life.

"People might think that a husband would take care of his blind wife. But this does not happen," Nurbanu said. Her husband beats and abuses her every day.


Nurbanu cannot even cook a meal for herself, she has her young daughter cook for her. Sadly, this is a common thing in Bangladesh. Nurbanu is one of the thousands of women who are victims of acid attacks.

Soon, every move of a driver will be recorded in the mandatory block box installed in every vehicle, according to press reports.


Federal safety officials today proposed a new rule requiring black box data loggers that capture the moments before and after an incident, in all new cars and trucks in the United States.



Such recorders now come standard in most new vehicles, but the auto industry opposes a mandate and the states will do little to resolve a simmering legal battle over who can see what the black boxes record.



The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it will require all new U.S. vehicles to have


black boxes by September 1, 2014, noting that 96 percent of the 2013 models already come with the black boxes. The new proposal does not change the 15 types of data the black boxes must record when it detects a collision.



"By understanding how drivers respond in an accident and if the security key systems work properly, NHTSA and the automakers can make our cars and our roads even safer," U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said. "This proposal will give us the critical insight and information we need to save more lives." Privacy advocates are vehemently opposed to such a mandate.

Cash-strapped Swaziland urged to hike witch-doctor tax

MBABANE (Reuters) - A Swazi Member of Parliament has urged the government to hike taxes on traditional healers and soothsayers to help solve a funding crisis in Africa's last absolute monarchy.

The mediums, known as sangomas in the landlocked southern African nation, pay an annual 10 emalangeni ($1.15) license fee, but MP Majahodvwa Khumalo said they had jacked up their fees fourfold in the last few years and should pay more.

"A majority of our people consult traditional healers but the money they pay to government falls far too short of the money they make," he told parliament.

Swaziland's budget deficit ballooned to 15 percent of its annual economic output in 2010 but the government managed to keep itself afloat by running through central bank reserves and delaying payment of wages to civil servants.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) declined to launch a bailout because of reluctance by King Mswati III, who has at least a dozen wives and a personal fortune estimated at $200 million, to cut royal or military spending.

The IMF has continued to press for reductions to what is officially Africa's most bloated bureaucracy. In an in-depth assessment of the economy published in February, it rated the scope for raising more taxes as "small".
