This forum still has huge potential, but it's a shame that it's moderation is not positively effective. The web master community should be the most vibrant forum here due to it's technology factor, but not here in this case.

I used to spend alot of time in Nairaland before, but now not as much. For me personally, the webmaster area is a place of interest, but nothing webmastery grin about it at the moment, full of SPAM, it just feels like no one is minding it at all.

The popularity of any site can can quickly disintegrate and another one take over; MySpace vs Facebook is a good example of that.
So Nairaland mods in the Webmaster area need to up their game and give us something to come back for.

Webmasters / Re: This Is The Only Way To Be A Successful Webmaster by WebHostingPal: 8:16am On Nov 27, 2014
Luedave:
To all my webmasters...

Great post, I'm going to take this a little further if you don't mind... grin

I had a lengthy conversation with a friend of mine, we were talking generally about how things can be improved in IT sector in Africa.

Just two weeks ago I was told this "Nigerians are great, but they just don't know it" If Nigerians put half of their years of education in entrepreneurship, Nigeria would have been one of the most entrepreneurial countries in the world. According to statistics, 68% of Nigeria is literate, considering you don't have to be a literate to be a successful Nigerian, so having some kind of literacy should be a massive plus.

But in Nigeria we have this sub-culture thingy going on, where people had been negatively brainwashed from early age (that one have to be educated to become somebody or before one can be accepted in the society). This is not true and it has never been true, because we know the histories of the founders of these companies Apple, Amstrad, Microsoft etc But today you are probably using one of their products or services, so if you know their stories very well you will quickly realise that we've always been fed with BS.

Just look around you, 8 in 10 people will tell you that they know at least one or two graduate friends unemployed. In western countries education is not by force you know and it has never been because there are always other things to venture into, like sports or what ever you feel that you are good at.

We need to learn to be creative in Nigeria, instead of wasting time searching for jobs that will probably not happen, you see, everybody in Nigeria want to be employed, It's like people don't want to be creative at all by the time you waited 2, 3 years if not more to get employment, you would have started something that is sufficient enough to feed you or something.

Wasting time applying for jobs put a huge strain on jobs that barely exist anyway. Otherwise what would you call it (1 vacancy, over 300 applicants), it's ridiculous. I mean how many "Oga Sirs" are you going to kiss or bribe to get a job that you are not even guaranteed?

As some people would have realised now, they can now make money online, doing one thing or the other. As a matter of fact online puts more money in people's pockets than overall and it's a fair system, because you only get what you put in.

To back the OP, it is true, we have this one way traffic thing going on. Everybody want to copy every body "word for word" and "look for look", there is nothing wrong in being motivated, but it's completely unacceptable in this digital age to go out of your way, searching for a clone of a website that you like, what's the point? You can copy stuffs, but you can't copy the mechanics of it, because nairaland is a successful website does not mean that, copying it's templates, layouts etc will make you a Kobo or get you any member.

So you need to be creative, find your own niche, pay attention to details and seek assistance from people that had been in your shoes. Work hard and be patient, don't expect results at early stage, as you know, Rome was not built in a day". Kill your pride and make more friends of similar interest. Don't ever think because you know a bit about blogging or how to setup a blogger account, you know it all.

So, go out and be creative, if you know how to create anything go ahead, grow wings, spread it and fly. Just think that if more people can be creative in Nigeria, unemployment rate will be hugely reduced, which will be a massive boost to the economy.

Lol,i know the subject is misleading but i couldn't think of better...

To be honest with you, it's better and easier for you to keep on blogging. Looking at your blog, you haven't got a lot going on there at the moment, so having a personalised website may not be beneficial at this early stage if you know what I mean.

Once your blog is ready and you have created enough interesting articles based on your niche, then you can start inviting your facebook group followers over. Obviously you need to have written quality articles on the blog that will make your followers come back reading.

You don't necessarily need to have your own domain and web hosting account yet, unless you want a personalised website and go branding, which in my opinion, a fresher may find too demanding.

Hope this helps!

ogtavia:

so I guess in a way sort of,you are asking me to go for d BMW 5 series 2.5L engine...

No I'm not, I'm only giving you my own opinion about BMW since it's the question you asked.

If this is your first time of buying a car, I will advice that you go for something cheaper to maintain. You know BM can be quite expensive to fix if it develops problem greater than what you can fix yourself, but if you have budget for it why not, go ahead and treat yourself to one.

Also you can consider extended warranty if you have the money for it, with extended warranty, your car would be fixed for you regardless the kind of problem it develops or they will replace the car or something. I know that BMW company has extended warranty in place, but they are really expensive. I know there are third party companies that do extended warranty as well, you can consider those.

With extended warranty you will be paying XX amount of money per month, just like paying for a home or content insurance. That way, if your car goes wrong, you will call the company up and they will come take the car away and fix it at no additional cost.

You can also buy an "OBDII Code Reader" to keep in the house, it's a small diagnostic device that can be used to detect most problems in modern cars, it reads directly from a car computer system

Go and have a good chat about it with your friends, family and hear their opinions as well. Since your parent gave you the Merc, I believe that they won't mislead you, so seek their opinions.

Hope this helps.

First,I want to apologise for my earlier statement,I really didn't mean it dt way,honestly...

Yeah, not a problem at all.... To be honest with you, Most BMW 5 Series are great, I've had 520, 525 and 530 series before as you may no, the only difference to them are the engine sizes. 520 is 2 Litres Engine, 525, 2.5 Litres and the last one is 3 Litres. You can't compare the power of these three models. a typical 530 Litres BMW is really powerful, even though you are doing 120 miles on the clock, it feels like you are just driving at 30 miles, it's seriously amazing.

BMWs are very strong as well, the was a guy that put a bimmer in cruise control at 70 miles per hour, he dind't know how to operate the control, and some how unlucky for him, the system lucks, break not fuctioning and cruise control wouldn't work respond. The guy was tooting other road users off the motor way, he was reaching a massive round about very fast at that 70 miles per hour, before he knew it he'd smashed into the round about.

I'm telling you the story because the guy actually survived un-hurt. A very luck guy. He only survived because the BMW took the impact of the hit, if that was another car it would have been a different ball game. That's why you see people stick to BMWs, for safety.

Below stats of some of the BMs

525 auto, running on petrol has 192 BHP engine power, with an acceleration of 0-60mph in 8.7 seconds and up to the top speed of 145 mph

525 auto, running on diesel has 177 BHP engine power, with an acceleration of 0-60mph in 8.3 seconds and up to the top speed of 141 mph

525 manual, running on petrol has 192 BHP engine power, with an acceleration of 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds and up to the top speed of 148 mph

525 manual, running on diesel has 177 BHP engine power, with an acceleration of 0-60mph in 8.1 seconds and up to the top speed of 143 mph

If you travel alot interstate and for business, you can't go wrong with a 5 series, they are all quick on the go. If you are the sporty type that like massive control, and get away quick, you probably want BMW 525 manual @ 192 BHP. BMWs are some of the cars that even though they have high millage, they still drive like brand new.

Apart from the Fomular1 cars that is 800BHP, the Hennessey Venom (GT) is the fastest road car at 270 BHP reaching 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds, so you can understand how fast a BMW can be compared to other typical house hold cars. I've seen a BMW that reaches 60 mph just under 5.9 seconds. As you may know, one of the fasted BMWs, BMW M3 GTR if not the fastest reaches 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, that's not far from the worlds road fastest car at all. So BMs are no joke.

So if you feel like you want authority on the road go for a BMW, just be sure you buy one that is in perfect working condition, otherwise BMs parts can be very expensive.

Hope this helps and goodluck in your search...

Why didn't u reply me,are u too proud or too knowledgeable to help someone out?

Sorry buddy, I was responding to your message when I got caught-up with other things.

Remember that you can't based your judgement solely on my guide, but you can be well informed to a certain degree with the small information you get from me. So here we go....

Be very careful, I don't think you should buy a car without seeing it first, that's the easiest way to part away with your hard earned money. Unless you have someone you can 150% trust to oversee buying the car for you in the US, Germany or any where else. You just need to see what you are paying for.

I've sold used cars abroad and the way the buyers made arrangement was to get quotes from those "car transporters" companies. The car transporters will require the collection and delivery addresses of the car and they will give you a quote based on that, including the pickup and delivery dates. Some car transporters will deliver internationally and some don't. I believe that my buyers were quoted based on distance.

What country do you intend to use the car and what country are you based at the moment, car prices are quite different depending on the country you reside in. Otherwise importing a car from one country to the other will quickly sky rocket the total cost of the car.

Also do you intend to buy from a dealer or private buyer? both have advantages and disadvantages. Dealers will probably not give you much discount and private sellers will most likely knock some money off the price.

Back in those days, there was massive significance in prices when buying from a private seller and dealers. Private buyers will most innocently sell off good cars for unbelievable prices, while dealers will most likely sell you crap cars for huge amount of money. That was then, private sellers are clued up these days and they now try to sell their cars at trade prices. So as it stands now there is no much difference between private and dealer prices.

I think the figures you quoted "$15000 and between €10,000 and €20,000" are over the price to pay for a used car like the ones you mentioned. You can actually start your own car trading business with those figures.

Audis and BMWs are solid and built to last by the Germans, you can't go wrong with buying a Bimmer or Audi. Well maintained car can do any amount of journey, personally I will choose a German car over any other. Very few British cars are great as well, Example Jaguars and Land Rovers are well built and solid, Unlike the Jaguar S-Types that run on the real Jaguar engine, the X-Type is powered by Ford engine.

Ford make great British cars as well, but very few of them can be trusted. Until the Germans got involved with Ford.

This is a link to show you what country manufactured what car; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_automobile_manufacturers_by_country

Peugeot is the most successful car manufactured by the French, I won't trust modern Peugeots that much though unlike 504, 505 in those days and I can't knock them either because they are fairly ok.

I will avoid Vauxhaul, Rover 75 etc, The rover 75s had been acquired like three or four times by different countries/manufacurers and back to the British Again. When the German acquired Rover 75, they made the 2.5 engine version, which was supposedly meant to be powered by BMW engine. The project was a disaster. Then the Japanese acquired the car and changed the entire Rover 75 features, making the car sportier, it was great. They re-branded it from Rover 75 to Rover MG. Again the project failed for some reasons. Rover 75 (Now MG) unlike most standard cars came with 18 inches alloy wheels by default, very sporty looking cars, but without market value. Back to the hands of the British now, they even try to re-invent Rover 75, that even turned out to be a disaster.

You will surely enjoy BMW 3 Series, the Salon, Coupe and Convertible, they were well built and they have high market value for them. I will avoid BMW Compact, do you know the 316TI version ?, no market value for them at all.

Please note, when I say Market Value, I mean a car that you can buy and sell on any time and still make good money from it. I once bought a car BMW 330 2001 make, unexpectedly the car developed one problem and the money to fix the problem was greater than the price I paid for the car itself... I was left with two options, repair it or sell it on..

I chose the latter, I put the car in for auction explaining the exact problem that was wrong with the car, by then I thought I'd lost money and my intention was that it will go for scrap if you know what I mean. But hey, I sold the car almost twice the price I paid for it. The guy that bought the BM sent a delivery company all the way from Romania.

My biggest tip for you are;

1 - Always see and test before you buy

2 - You should always buy a car with market value on them, a car that people have appetite for so that you can easily sell it on should anything happen otherwise you will be stuck with a car that neither can you fix nor sell. Be careful though when you buy from auctions. Even if you have a battered BMW in your garage, it will still sell for parts. I'm sure there are other good cars as well.

I have friends that use Toyotas and Hondas, and I believe they are good cars, but I've not used or sold any Toyota or Hondas. My reviews are based on the cars that I've dealt with on several occasions.

Remember that this is only a guide and I know I've slightly gone off the topic, nearly turning this into car review which is not my intention at all grin any one can buy any car they like.

But hey, I hope these info gives you some ideas, I'm popping to the Gym now, so if you have any question drop it, I will respond when I'm back. Regards.

You are indirectly saying we shouldn't buy used cars

No, not at all, you can buy as many used cars as you want, the point here is that when buying a used car, you want to make sure that you buy one that you will enjoy for a while. Over the time, the cost of repairing a used car is dearer than the car itself.

There was this guy that I know, he bought a Jaguar X-Type 2012 for a Million Naira (Converted Currency), the car was in showroom condition, I can post the pic of the car here, it was a top of the spec and with two tone, that is depending on the weather the car changes colour.

But the gearbox started playing up 3 months after purchase, although the car still drives perfect, but you know, you want to quickly fix any issue before other areas start to get affected. The guy was expecting the the cost to be petty, but guess what ? the bill to fix just the gear box was 600,000 Naira and he was advised that because he'd been driving the car for a while it's most likely that that other areas could have been affected as well.

Brand new cars can break down as well, even on the day of purchase, but this post is not about brand new cars.

You can also buy OBDII (On-board diagnostics) device, most modern cars have self diagnostic onboard, so you can use your OBDII to read cars faults before you even pay for it. The device will give you a pretty good idea of the problems on the car and other problems that may arise after sales.
Car Talk / A Simple Guide To Buying A Used Car That Will Serve You For A Long Time by WebHostingPal: 12:45am On Nov 12, 2014
This is for all my friends around the world.

Being an entrepreneur, I had ventured into all kinds of businesses including buying and selling cars in the past. I had bought many cars for personal and business use and I have sold so many cars to many countries as well. I have sold cars in Nigeria, UK, US, Canada, France, Netherland, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Portugal and Spain. Over 80 good working cars to be precise excluding the ones I sold as scraps.

As a matter of fact one would easily think that I'm a car dealer, hmm... may be for 2 months or so because I thought about going into the car selling business. But no, I'm not a typical car dealer if you know what I mean. I don't have forecourt full of all kinds of cars, neither do I make car finance arrangement for people.

Over the years, I have gained enough experience when it comes to buying and selling cars, I will try to give you guys a bit of tips on how to buy quality used cars that will not end up becoming a problem for you in any country you are.

When you are buying a used car, take a deep breath and compose yourself properly and ask questions with proofs from the seller before you part with your hard earned cash.

Below are the things you need to check before paying for a used car;

High Mileage
High mileage 90% is most likely going to be a problem not long after you bought the car

Dings and Dents
For me this is no go area, no matter how good the engine sounds (Cost of body work most likely greater than cost of the car)

Oil Leak
The biggest telltale sign that a car has got one or more hidden problems

Knocks and Bangs in the Engine
Most likely that the car would not last you that long, because there is something wrong with the engine

Dark or White Smoke
This is another sign of problems in a car

Heating System Not Working or Not Working Properly
Mostly head gasket going or gone. Expensive to fix.

Horn Not Working
It's illegal to drive a car without horn, so don't buy the car

Breaks Not Working or Not Working Properly
Sign of disaster round the corner, avoid buying the car

Recon Engine
Personally I frown at this. (This is why insurance is really high for a car with a reconditioned engine)

Engine Management Light On
Sign that there is some kind of problem(s) with car and fixing could be from thousands to millions of Naira to fix

Engine Management Light Off
Dodgy sellers always turn the engine management light off, so that they can sell the car on quick. Beware of this

Water Getting into Car
This is common in some cars with exterior issues, water getting into your car during rainy season or wet roads

Stiff Starring Wheel
Power starring fluid is dry, if you are not sure, don't buy the car

Car Over Heating
Likely head gasket. Don't buy the car

Car Juddering
Don't buy, there is something most likely bigger than your budget wrong with the car

Car Brand
It's better to stick with brands that are well known

Not First Time Started
Some cars wont start first time after starting the engine, if you have to try several times before the engine kicks in, don't buy the car

Car Not Starting At ALL
If the car is not starting at all and it's not ticking over, don't buy it. Although flat battery sometimes cause this, but again it could be worse.

If you happen to be buying a car from an online auction or anywhere else, it's a good practice to always go to view the car first before you bid or commit yourself to buy, always take your time test driving, and don't get too excited, otherwise you will end-up buying a car that may cost you more money than what you ever budgeted.

Repairing a car can be costly and the roadside mechanics can be very corny as well, so it's for your own good if you learn a little bit about the car you are buying. There are so many review websites that discuss all kinds of cars based on make, model year of manufacture etc.

Avoid buying a car based on looks, after all beautiful looking car without working engine is completely useless. If you stick to my advice you will find out that you will not necessarily need to pay or visit one mechanic or the other.

During my years of experiences in buying and selling on cars, I have come to terms with few cars that I have huge respect for. BMWs (Not all models), Jaguars, Mercedes, Audis my top four brands. Then you have the Hondas, Peugeots (Not all models), Volkswagens (Not all models) etc.

Some cars like Rovers and Renault can be mechanically problematic, but again it depends on the model you are buying and other factors. Mercedes great brand, but if you notice the CLKs and some others are prone to rust quickly and repairs can be damning.

---- Write, print or copy the following out as a guide when ever you see a car you are interested in buying ----

High Mileage
Dings and Dents
Oil Leak
Knocks and Bangs in the Engine
Dark or White Smoke
Heating System Not Working or Not Working Properly
Horn Not Working
Breaks Not Working or Not Working Properly
Recon Engine
Engine Management Light On
Engine Management Light Off
Water Getting into Car
Stiff Starring Wheel
Car Over Heating
Car Juddering
Car Brand
Not First Time Started
Car Not Starting At ALL

--- End of Guide ---

I sincerely hope that my tip here will be very useful for you next time you are treating yourself to a nice car. Please note that neither I'm I a mechanic nor car dealer, but non of both can tell me BS if you know what I mean, because I'm a bit of both.

Jayclinics:
how do i now send out my newsletter to this dudes?

It's pretty simple, if you properly read the HostNigeria terms I posted before, you should know what to do by now. If not, you need to read the "Mailing List Policy" section, it explains what you need to do. Start reading from the following line;

"When sending a message, no matter how large your e-mail list is you must throttle it, we recommend you throttle it to the very least, sending 1 email per 8 seconds. (Sending mail 1 every 8 seconds would send 450 emails within an hour, keeping you below the 500 outgoing email limit.)"
~ Quote https://www.hostnigeria.com.ng

If you don't understand what email throttling means then google it.

Also try to read your web host policy regarding sending bulk mails, I'm only using hostnigeria because it's been designed to be self explanatory. and like I said before, most web hosting companies have the same policy, especially when it comes to bulk emails.

And if you can manage to follow my tip through, you will realise that you can send as many email messages to unlimited number of subscribers.

And make sure that the newsletter software that you are using is one that allows you to throttle mails, other wise you will mostly likely continue receiving same reception even though you change your web hosting company.

Hope this helps.

If you want to speedily get a form of attack on your computer like adware, keylogger and other kinds of Internet crazies Internet Explorer is great for you. grin

I have 6 browsers including Internet Explorer due to the nature of my line of work. But I use the IE maybe once in four or five months. Too much hassle with IE, telling you from Years of trying and testing, it's way out of touch.

My favourite browsers are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera. For technical control and all stuff I recommend Mozilla Firefox, this browser is technically the best in my opinion, it comes with tons of plugins, adware and those bad crawlies have no chance, no annoying ads, no popups, no popunders, the browser comes with loads of goodies. But I don't like the desktop.

Opera desktop is the best, I use this to arrange sites I like to visit again, it has some goodies as well, no annoying popups etc, unlike Internet Explorer. If you use Windows 8 you will appreciate Opera's desktop.

Another one is --------, this is basically a browser that acts as a proxy. It was specifically developed to hide your real IP address and it does more. Mozilla Firefox as well has a nice plugin that allows you to hide your IP, but I have never used that feature.

This particular browser generates random IP addresses and you are basically untraceable with it, because it protects you by bouncing your Internet communications all over a distributed network relays operated by volunteers around the world.

The browser simply prevents someone watching your Internet connection, it also prevent prying eyes from learning what sites you have visited, and it also prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location. I use this to trace hacking attempts on our networks.

can you please explain why?

It's difficult to explain without discouraging up coming developers. If you put all your add work on your clients server, you are doing so at your own risk. I have met clients that will change access to web hosting in order to avoid paying the balance, grin How cheecky is that ?

I've also met clients that will give you stories why they can't pay you the balance, do you understand what I mean by when they make you chase your own money, even though you have completed the job?

At the end of the day, you will have tens of clients owing you money all over the place. This is a fast growing industry and you don't have the time to be chasing client all over, it's very unprofessional.

The best bet is to perspectively avoid issues like that. It's more professional that way. Someone whose paid you 60% upfront, will pay you the remaining balance to upload to their own server. Never complete the job on a client server until you got all your pay.

Remember to let the client know this is your policy from the start.

do u thinks magento is better...Though cms choice is not my main prob but how to analyse costing.

You can't compare magento or other purposely developed ecommerce software with an integrated or plugin based ones like woocommerce.

If your clients want ecommerce website, then use a pure ecommerce software, if they want blog, then use blog software.

Regarding pricing, you are the best person to know your own pricing structure, other people's pricing structure may not be good for you, unless you don't have a business plan in place. Like the saying "what's good for the goose is good for the gander" is not always true, the perfect one is "fingers are not equal" and this is why pricing variation exists.

Are you charging hourly, or one off.... are you using a free software or premium one ? are you charging maintenances or you would be providing manual and tutorials?

Adding inventory is not necessarily part of a developers job, as a matter of fact it's a separately chargeable service. Either you or your client will need to higher a data entry staff, which ever way it will cost money. Unless you want to do it for free grin Adding inventory can be more demanding and long winded than programming. grin Unless your client has a small number of inventory.

For example, there was a project I worked on, design and development completed in 3 weeks, five of us worked on it. Then came the inventory adding part, we had to sub contract the data entry to 10 more people just to add about 3,900 products. Their jobs include, taking photos of each product, adding descriptions, product variations, pricing etc

Are you also going to be providing in-house training on how to use the preferred ecommerce software ? All these things come into play when taking up an ecommerce project.

Konga for example was built on magento, Sim has enough budget to keep the site running. So serious clients will appreciate it when you give them a total break down of the cost of your services, some will try to negotiate.

You can encourage your clients by offering easy payment term, for example 60% upfront and 40% after completion. Make sure the whole site had been developed on your own test server if you have one, other wise, you will learn a hard way.

Don't be afraid of loosing customers because of your pricing, as long as you are reasonable enough. I will start from 80K as an entry, personally I charge a minimum of 120k. My price is not made from the air, I can easily itemise my charges, plus based on years of experience, technical ability etc.

I've given you enough ideas and I hope it works for you buddy.

Best of luck wink

Jezz! 500 email addresses in 1 hour, my blog suscribers must have exceeded that amount. What do u advice me to do nw bro? Bcoz the dudes are still demanding for my ip address, which is not stable.

Your web host shouldn't be asking you for your IP address, you should be able to do what they need your ip for yourself using htaccess. Atleast they could have instructed you on how to go about it. Also they could have easily blocked the offending site instead of yours. But again every web host have their own policy.

Visit this website http://www.whatismyip.com/ it will show you your ip address. Your IP will be something like "1.522.787.96" without the quote. Carefully copy the ip address and send to your web host.

Or you can do it yourself by using htaccess like this;

Step 1 - Create an htaccess file or if you already have one, add the code below to it, making sure that you enter your ip address correctly and save.

<Limit GET POST>
order allow,deny
allow from 1.522.787.96 # change these numbers to that of you ip address.
deny from all
</Limit>

Step 2 - Now contact your web host and tell them that you have limited access to your ip only. And wait for their response.

Hope this helps.

please i just got a message in my cpanel that i have exceeded my disk usage quota.

The files and folders are not the only factors that affect your disk space, you also need to check the volume of data in your database, emails, logs etc... Otherwise I will advice that you upgrade plan with your web host.

Hope that helps.
Webmasters / Hostnigeria.com.ng Has Been Acquired By Chris Ditmol Limited. by WebHostingPal: 3:39am On Nov 07, 2014
Some of you probably knew when I started one of the latest web hosting company in Nigeria. With extreme hard work, patience and determination, it quickly became the fasted growing Nigerian web hosting company.

I like to inform you that HostNigeria.com.ng has now been acquired by Chris Ditmol Limited, a company that provides financing to capital efficient companies within the Information and Technology industry.

I have had the opportunity to work with great webmasters around the world, especially in Nigeria, South Africa, USA, Germany and the United Kingdom where my career began.

It is good seeing foreign companies now investing in Nigeria, especially in IT, as a matter of fact this is the biggest paradigm shift of our generation and Nigeria is just beginning to realise a massive boost to the economy.

So if you are a blogger, web designer, developer etc, just keep on the good work and the rest will follow. It doesn't matter how long it takes, your customers are your key to the success of your business.

Thank you all and God Bless Nigeria. smiley

I have contacted...

It's most likely that the htaccess used on your website is an older version. You will findout that altering the htaccess to a more appropriate version will resolve this issue. One would have thought that a "Foreign Web Host" like yours would have corrected this issue for you.

As far as bulk email is concerned, go and read their terms http://www.arvixe.com/tos.php "SPAM and Unsolicited Commercial E-mail (UCE)" section.

For better understanding read these #Mailing List Limitation and #Mailing List Policy sections from http://hostnigeria.com.ng/terms-of-service.html Most web hosting companies have similar policy when it comes to sending bulk emails. So your web host reserves the right to block or ban an offending website.

Hope this helps.

No, always read previous comments and make sure you understand it fully before dropping comment next time...

You seem to have problem with my comment above buddy, no offence, anyone sensible will understand what I mean. And yes I have read your post and the comments made by the others. If you really need help, being rude would not lead you anywhere, especially in this industry.

Perhaps you could have composed your post so that we understand exactly what happened between you and the other guy instead of metaphorically writing.

Yes you can host with who ever you like, but I completely disagree with you that Nigerian web hosts are unreliable. You just can't tie every company with same brush you see?

Like you've got enough advice already.

Good Luck.

Do you think it's a good thing? What are the disadvantages of this deal? I'm a novice but won't want to make a mistake I will regret later...

Sounds like someone is asking for a free hosting... If this is true, you will probably loose your site. I think web hosting is now fairly cheap in Nigeria.

Anayordike:
Pls guys I need help here...

First try and access your site from another computer. If it works on another computer then try the following options; try the first step below and if that doesn't work, move to the next one...

1 - Clear your computer's browser(s) cache. Then try visiting your site again

2 - Go to command prompt on your computer and type in ipconfig /flushdns. Then try visiting your site again

(Note: This step will disconnect your Internet connection, so you have to reconnect after you are done with this step)
3 - Go to command prompt on your computer and type in ipconfig/release. Once done, reconnect back to the internet and try visiting your site again.

If after all the above don't work and your site images are still playing funny; Move on to the steps below.

1 - Check the sources of your web pages, are you using the correct path to the images directory.

2 - Are you using an absolute or relative path ?

3 - Do you know that if you have hotlink protection enabled via cPanel, it will cause your images to act funny like the way you have describe?, if you are linking to the images using "absolute Paths". In this case you have two options, Disable hotlink protection or use "Relative Paths" for internal linking"

Example of "Relative Path: ../images/image1.png"

Example of "Absolute Path: h--p://my-web-address-. com/images/image1.png"

Hope all these make sense.

Regards.

Webmasters / Re: Why You Need To Stay Away From Nigeria Host. by WebHostingPal: 10:26pm On Sep 20, 2014
Joel3: I will be changing my host because right now I feel bad. I got suspend because i haven't paid. My service expired just 2 week ago.

Hi, sorry I have to chip in here, I disagree with your post and the misleading title. If your account is 2 weeks overdue and got suspended just yesterday, then that's probably your fault. You could have taken a preventative measure long before the due date up till before the suspension.

You would have received reminder emails before and after expiration but where you chose not to respond to the emails, you only left your host with no other choice. Think about it, two weeks passed, going into the third week and your account still remained active. At what point do you think the web host should come into the picture ?

At least you could have sent in an email prior to the due date or on the due date. A single email like this "Hello guys, I'm sorry I'll be paying late, please bear with me till x days" would have done the magic.

It's a shame that you have a negative thought about Nigeria web hosts over this, even though this is purely your fault. More so, why would any successful and responsible web host want to frustrate their customers because a customer's website is growing ? I have to disagree with you on that as well.

If you are not happy with your web host, there shouldn't be any issue moving to another one. No responsible web hosting company would hold you into ransom. As a matter of fact you would even get a pro rata refund if applicable.

One thing that is certain is that no web hosting company would endorse overdue payments without prior communication from the concerned customer. Like someone mentioned, this has got nothing to do with being Nigerian Web Host, American or German. The result for none and late payment would still be the same anywhere else or even stricter in my opinion.

ichamentor: -First, what Joomla version are you on ?
-I am version 3.3.3
-Secondly, do you have a link referencing to the Joomla article from the homepage ?
-Yes, I have a link on the submenu(drop-down) that should take one to the article when clicked.
-Lastly, have you created the article under a particular category and expect it to automatically appear on the homepage ?
-Yes, I put the article under a menu category. I expected the title to appear under this menu.

Thanks for offering the insights. I will check the above out again, just in case.
