ichamentor: Hello webmasters, please I need help with this hiccup. I have a website running on the joomla platform that I am managing. Recently, I added a new article to the back end but it does not appear on the front end. Currently, I have noticed that no changes made at the backend reflect on the front end. I tried changing the background image, nothing happened. I changed the template, nothing still. First, what Joomla version are you on ? Secondly, do you have a link referencing to the Joomla article from the homepage ? Lastly, have you created the article under a particular category and expect it to automatically appear on the homepage ? If the last question is yes, then I'm guessing that you have not created a module that auto publish articles In most cases, people forget to link to the created articles or forget to publish the article in a category that had been set for a published module to read from.. Anyway let me know how it goes. |

tomholly: WEBMASTER HELP NEEDED I think there are many ways you can retrieve your lost joomla password. Your web host may be able to help you with the task. Should you want to do this yourself follow these steps; (Takes Less than 3 minutes to complete) Wait, be careful!!! I advice that you make a database backup before you start getting practical, databases are not everyone's cup of tea. So apply caution when playing with your database! Anyway, getting nitty gritty. 1 - Login to cPanel 2 - Click the phpMyAdmin link 3 - Select your database 4 - In your selected database, look for jos_users and click it (assuming jos is your database prefix) 5 - This will load a list of users in your database 6 - Look for the name of your joomla admin and click to edit it, the default is usually admin 7 - Open a new tab and launch Google, search for MD5 Hash generator and generate MD5 Hash for a new password, copy the result 8 - Back to your phpMyAdmin, according to step 6, mouse to the password field and delete all the content in the field 9 - Enter the MD5 Hash you generated in step 7. Now click the "Go" button 10 - Refresh your browser, clear cookies and visit your joomla admin area again. Now you should be able to login Other Option Some people resolve this by running a simple SQL query (Takes less than a minute to complete) If this what you need let me know. Again your web host may be able to help you out. I hope this helps. |

coolsix: It's a risk not worth it, PayPal have this habit of terminating accounts they find suspicious, even worse, if you have enough balance in your account, they will seize it. I think it's better that you keep a better standing account and close the other one. Don't give them reason to start monitoring your activities, specifically. PayPal make money from things like this... Why do you think paypalsucks.com exists ... lol ![]() 1 Like |

egift: Paypal is useless to me until I can accept payment. I have programmes that are stranded till I can accept payments. If you think about it, commercially it's not. Because you can now conveniently pay for foreign products and services. Keep in mind that PayPal is only testing the waters at the moment, it's now up to Nigeria account holders to use their PayPal accounts wisely. PayPal is so antifraud, so if people use their PayPal account according to the set regulations and not try to abuse the system, I believe PayPal will activate the ability to receive PayPal payment in Nigeria this could be in a year, two, three or more. We accept PayPal payments at HostNigeria! the only thing is that users paying us via PayPal have to change the Naira currency to USD or GBP in order to pay with PayPal. Unfortunately PayPal does not accept the Naira denomination at this point in time. |

Successdude: Do they charge any commission to send money or to verify the account ? Yesterday being 9th august, i verified my account and about 320 naira was deducted from my account .that means about 167 naira per dollar. It's free to send money or pay for items with PayPal. We pay 2.9% and 20p for every transaction received. See here for more info... https://www.paypal.com/ng/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside |

hulkhiharitoz: I will be really appreciative if anyone could help me create a blog for free You can't create a blog, how do you intend to manage it ? Why not do a research on blogging, learn about it, once you have acquired a basic knowledge, then pick your niche. Once you are ready, create your blog. Don't be like so many of our people that create blogs because they think they can get rich quick from it. Create a blog, maintain and manage it with passion, be rest assured that other benefits will follow. Hope this helps. |

chitex88: Thanks for your response. I appreciate. No woocommerce can not get the job done well. You need to remember that Wordpress is a blogging system, no matter how modified it is. And you can never compare a purposely built ecommerce system to a blogging system. If you are looking for free ecommerce system, ZenCart tops the list, you have Magento, osCommerce, OpenCart, Spree Commerce, PrestaShop and the list goes on. Joomla and WordPress have their own ecommerce components and plugins, but you can't compare them to the list above. Almost everything in Nigeria is WordPress, many Nigerian online stores and websites are powered by Wordpress, this is because that's what people know and comfortable using here, even though it's not the best solution. Hope this helps. |

coolsix: You all never cease to amaze me... Hello buddy, first adverts are meant to be made and second, customer's satisfaction is paramount. You need to understand that there are very few good web hosting companies in Nigeria. Not name dropping or dissing any one, a lot of Nigeria web hosts don't have the necessary technical capability to deal with issues first hand so when problems beyond their control arise they completely ignore their customers requests for resolution and as a result badly letting the customers down, driving local customers to foreign hosts. Mind you, "Foreign Hosts Don't Pay Taxes Here in Nigeria" Talking of foreign hosts, not blowing own trumpet, I feel it's necessary to let you know that I have worked for two popular web hosting companies abroad and I'm a qualified system administrator, so I'm not jumping on the bandwagon here. Foreign web hosts don't trust Africans when it comes to web hosting and other things, I know this for sure, have you ever wondered why so many websites in Nigeria got shut down ? or why fellow naijas have to verify accounts when you host abroad, I can give you tons of stories on that one. So my campaign is to let anyone that cares about web hosting in Nigeria know that they can now host in Nigeria with the International standard they've been craving for. We pay tax and we are contributing to the Nigeria economy, knowing what very few of us know, why would I suggest a fellow citizen to go host abroad when they can get what they need here, or do you think we are less professional because we are Nigerians ? 1 Like |

JewelDiamond: For someone who deals on shoe and plumbing materials.Reply needed asap You need to provide more information on what you need exactly, website goes beyond how much. It's sounds like you would need an ecommerce website, either for showcasing your online products using your site as an online catalogue or allowing people to be able to purchase products online for home delivery. Or if you only need a basic website to represent your business online.. It's all about what you want. Your best bet is do search for a handful of web design and development companies and write to them via their contact forms, requesting for a quote, explaining in details exactly what you want, then you will be able to get proper responses from the actual companies. Then you can take it from there. There are so many cowboys out there ![]() Hope this helps. 2 Likes |

ocheejemb: I was wondering why Nairaland has such a basic, and (sorry to say) unattractive UI and UX? Simon says, that Nairaland would loose values should there be an attempt to change the layout and feel of the website. Although it is possible, but a great care had to be taken. If I were the owner of Nairaland, I would not bother to change anything, perhaps he knows this himself. Come to think of it, most of the greatest website today are as basic looking as you want it. Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, ebay, paypal etc... PayPal is just making attempt to change bits and bobs in their user area and a great work had been done to achieve what they have achieved today, same as ebay. The design of a website is part of SEO and Google is quite happy with Nairaland at the moment and personally I wouldn't trade that for anything, I don't know about yous... Website is never about the design, but the contents of the website, designs are supplementaries, so having a great looking website with all bells and whistles does not make your web site SEO Ready.... In a not shell, I think Nairaland is fine because it is accessible to every user, it's fast loading and SEO friendly and I wouldn't change it for anything if you ask me ![]() |

ediko5: Hello, The thing is that any site can be hacked... not necessarily the fault of the web host, it could be as a result of a customer using a malicious script as well... However, the willingness of a webhost to address the issue as soon as they were informed is paramount. Hope you resolve this as soon as you can. In between, why use foreign host when you can host here in Nigeria ? foreign web hosting companies are not better you know ? Checkout http://www.hostnigeria.com.ng for an ultimate web hosting experience. |

geniusng: I have been hosting my website at Web4Africa for many years but so many things has gone wrong with their services. Their customer service is ZERO, there is no Nigerian phone number on their website and even when you send ticket, it will take donkey years to get a reply. kaysy: Hello Good Day, Hi, if you are really serious about your idea, I wouldn't use Word Press, I will advice that you use an ecommerce system to achieve your objective. After all ecommerce systems are specifically developed for this kind of purpose. There are free ecommerce systems you can readily use and there are premium ones, Google is your pal. Considering you are new to this, I would suggest that you hire someone with the knowledge to customise a free or premium ecommerce system for you. If this is a real business, I would advice that you avoid those that offer you cheap quotes ![]() Hope this helps! |

maekhel: I will like to know if there are professional certificates for web developers which one can take like the CISCO for networking. CIW ... Certified Internet Web Master... only one training center in the whole of Nigeria I believe. There is classroom taught, depending on the country you live in and you can also do the training online, self study. Passing the exam is another thing, you have to pay for the exams every time you take it. Hope this helps. ![]() |

dazekid: The Nigerian paypal can't receive payments but the payment sending option works. Yes, true. We can receive and send payments in Dollars and Pounds but not in Naira. For example, our clients change from local currency to dollars or pounds before they can make PayPal payments on our website. |
![]() |
Jregz: I'm not directing this post to you buddy ![]() Out of interest, what gives you the impression that foreign web hosts are better ? or do you mean that there are more reliable foreign web hosting companies than in Nigeria ? the latter sounds more promising to me. Also what do you term as real web hosting provider ? just to inform you and those that probably don't know, all web hosting companies are all middlemen including all those big companies you call real providers. Are you thinking how did I know ? I used to work for two well known web hosting companies when I was in the UK and as big as these companies were and still are, I'm whispering it to you now that they have always rented the servers they are hosting their customers on. I have discussed in full length about the web hosting companies I worked for in the UK and it's a shame that it's been lost when this nairaland website was hacked. Here is another article I wrote in response to a guy that was talking about unlimited space and bandwidth, please read the article here. In the article, I went a bit further discussing the hierarchy of the web hosting industry. Hopefully after reading that, people will stop dissing the few Nigeria web hosting companies that are truly working hard and stop tying everyone with the same brush. One final thing is that, it's only a matter of time before the Nigerian government start taxing foreign companies that are tapping into the Nigerian economy without paying taxes. Should law be put in place now, I bet you will feel the pinch as well, just like every SME in Nigeria, because the foreign companies will start taxing you as well.. ![]() This is something that had already been done in the UK. You can read more about it here; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-20560359 If you really want to completely cut out the middle-men in the web hosting industry, please stop mentioning, easyspace, godaddy, hostgator and them lot. If you have the money and the expertise then you want guys like Rack Space, SoftLayer. If you can combine my response here to the one mentioned above, you should have a better understanding of the web hosting industry I hope this helps. ![]() |
