Lagos - We all know some much repeated ways to save money , like taking some off the top and paying yourself first, planning and sticking to a budget, never leaving the house in fear of spending money (you don’t have) like a Hollywood rapper. But we still find ourselves partying spending like it’s 1999. Well, here are 5 money saving mind tricks you may not have tried before. Money is time. You’ve been eyeballing a hot new Smart TV, even though there’s nothing wrong with your current one. What can quickly put a 'want' into perspective is thinking about how much time (not money) the item you want costs. Think about what you earn per day or hour and see how many days or hours of work that smart TV will cost. Is your time worth the expense? Thinking about it this way may change your perspective a little. Resist the decoy effect. Shopping centres and marketers have clever ways and means of encouraging you to part with your money, but the wiser you are to them, the easier they are to resist. The decoy effect is when stores place one product next to a similar but more expensive product. For example, there’s a camera for N80,305 and one right next to it for N144,533. When people feel they’re getting a good deal, they’re more likely to make a spontaneous purchase. You buy the N80,305 camera because you think it’s a super deal and you saved N64,244. But the camera still cost you N80,305. Get real about the fantasy life. Some of us are guilty of buying things we won’t ever actually use. We buy them for the life we would like to lead, like scuba diving gear for all those exotic beach vacations you want to take. Or a mountain bike for the extreme sportsman you want to be. Those are all great things to aspire too, but before you head out and buy a new kayak, ask yourself, "Will I actually use this or am I buying it for my fantasy life?" It’s (not) yours. A common cognitive bias that kicks most of us in the butt when it comes to spending is called the Ownership Effect. Basically what happens is we become more willing to pay higher prices for things we think we already own. If you are out shopping for a new couch, for instance, you spot one you think is perfect and create an ‘attachment’ to it. You start to picture it in your lounge with beautiful scatter cushions; you see yourself snuggled up on it with a good book and a cup of tea. At this point in your purchasing process, you have built up this couch in your mind and it flips a switch that makes you value it more highly than other couches. Now, no matter the other options presented to you, even if they are cheaper and similar, you will be more willing to pay more for the couch you think you already own. See the bigger picture Having a picture of your financial goals, like a jet ski or new fridge, right next to a photo of your loved ones might not be the most romantic thing, but having a picture to remind you of what you are working towards can really help nip any trivial or impulse buy in the bud |

Ivorian football star Didier Drogba is well known for his prolific scoring as a forward for Chelsea, as well as for being captain of the Côte d’Ivoire national team for the last decade. Drogba has the distinction of being highest goal-scorer of any foreign player in the Premier League, and was even voted the best Chelsea player by supporters of the club in 2012. Here are 17 things you didn’t know about Didier Drogba. His mother nicknamed him ‘Tito’ Drogba’s mother, Name, nicknamed him “Tito” after President Broz Tito of Yugoslavia, whom she greatly admired He was sent to live with his uncle in France at a young age At age 5, Drogba was sent to live with his professional footballer uncle, Michel Goba, in France. He returned to his family in Abidjan three years later after becoming homesick, but moved back to France after both his parents lost their jobs as bank workers. He was reunited with his parents in 1993 after they moved to France Drogba’s parents moved to Antony, a suburb of Paris, in 1993. He moved back in with them and his siblings, and began playing football on a more frequent basis. He played for Le Mans for four years From 1998-2002, Drogba played in the second division of the French football club Le Mans. The four years were fraught with injury, but it was also his first professional contract, and a rung on the ladder to higher prospects. His next big breaks After Le Mans, Didier transferred to Ligue 1 soccer club Guingamp, and his record goals attracted Marseille, who bought him for £3.3 million pounds. During his year of playing for Marseille, he scored 19 goals and won the National Union of Professional Footballers Player of the Year Award He’s the most expensive Ivorian player in history In the summer of 2004, Drogba signed a contract with Chelsea for $40 million. He turned out to be worth it, though, as he helped the club win its first league title in 50 years. He is Chelsea’s greatest player, according to many In 2012, a poll of 20,000 fans administered by the Chelsea club’s official magazine named Didier Drogba the team’s greatest player ever Both his brothers are footballers Drogba’s two younger brothers, Joël and Freddy Drogba, are also footballers. Freddy plays for the French Ligue Youth 1 side Dijon. Drogba was the first African player to score 100 premier league goals In March 2012, he scored his 100th premier league goal in a victory over Stoke City, becoming the 22nd player ever, and the first African, to do so. He was also the first player to be sent off in a European Cup final for violent conduct In the 117th minute of the 2008 Champions League final, Drogba slapped Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic. Chelsea went on to lose the game in penalties after Capt. John Terry took Drogba’s place in the shootout and missed.... To be continued.. |
Chelsea have made some star signings over the years but this one would trump the lot - that of Jesus Christ. However, even with all his roubles, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich won't be bringing the Son of God to Stamford Bridge. But a survey has found that 20 per cent of kids think he already plays for the Blues. A total of 1,000 children were asked the following multiple choice question as part of a survey for Brent Cross Shopping Centre: Who is Jesus Christ? a) A footballer for Chelsea b) Son of God c) TV presenter d) X Factor contestant or e) An astronaut Apparently, 20 per cent of the children asked at a shopping centre in Brent Cross went with option a). Even if Jesus was available in the transfer market, one suspects Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who styles himself as the 'Special One', might feel uncomfortable about being upstaged by such a star name. |
Christmas is a time of celebration, yes we all know that but who can imagine if we could have people who reason like this and how it could add to the joy of Christmas. A wife walks up to the husband and say! Honey, you are the apple of my eyes even from the very first day I met you, life wouldn't have be complete for me had it being I dint marry you, all you have done for me throughout this year has been enough compared to what I have seen or received throughout my youthful age. Therefore all I want from you at this festive period as a gift is “You” but nothing else. Also read: Davido buys Christmas present for himself Hmmm. A husband walks up to the wife and say; my joy, my morning sunrise, afternoon sunshine and evening dawn. The one my life revolves around, I will always love you, take me to anywhere you wish to go and point anything that you wish to have and I'll make sure I see to it. Hmmm. Children to their father; dad you have always been there for us, what more can we ask at this Christmas, allow us to use our old wears take us to orphanage home to celebrate with them and always know that you are our father, we love you the way you are. So sweet I must say. What do we make of this, if every home in our world today will practice this? Let's hear your voice. God bless and happy Christmas! |
I wrote in one of my articles that death is a Supernatural vehicle. It was widely published in popular media but many people read it without understanding. They could not read deep meaning into it because most countries and minds in Africa are retarded. Insight revealed it to the wise that mental force like retardation and decadence do not give anybody to think and understand anything for good under the Sun. Wise ones like prophets and seers know that mental constraint has eaten deep into lives (souls) in jungle, and the effects are reflected in manners, doings, behaviors, reactions and what have you. The ugly situations are worst in Africa where people are badly brainwashed with religion. We see them in places like churches and mosques where they venerate without any good sense. They make recitations in ignorance because majority of worshipers in the continent do not understand that religion and creed are things of formality. I called them "vein worshipers and that is what they are. Worshipers of nothing under the Sun! They are too many in Africa especially in dead country, Nigeria. We hear them making recitations each time they gather, and one of the popular creeds in Roman Catholic said, "... ...world without end". I have to say all these because I was with the wise in realism lately. They said, "If one door closes another one will open." They made it very clear to me, saying that the closing is the ending while the new opening is another beginning. According to the wise, the end is not final. It is only an end to a journey or step, not a final end in life. It means that there are endless endings under the Sun. That is what they meant when they said, “World without end!" The ending is infinite or eternal. Certain people called it "unknown destination" but the wise called it "close door". Both of them mean ending. As a matter of reality, destination is end of a life journey while close-door is the beginning of another journey all together. That is it. Come to think of it! One needs a vehicle to embark on any long journey, and there are doors in every car, bus, taxi, airplane and what have you. So, let somebody tell us! What do we do at the end of a journey? If we ask me, I will say that I traveled with a bus and the bus-conductor opened the "door" at the bus-stop because the term "bus-stop" is a destination, not a final end. The same thing applies to death. It is not a final end because nature has reincarnation as another beginning in Supernatural and mystery. The wise told me that death is just a vehicle and life in general remains a journey without end in realm of jungle. They described it in wisdom as "world without end!!!" |
Abuja - Former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, has condemned the manner in which the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan has handled the issue of Boko Haram in the country, Vanguard reports. Buhari made the comment in response to a statement by Peoples Democratic Party accusing him of playing politics with the insurgency and unpatriotically refusing to join hands with Federal Government to address the problem until he is elected president. He said he is “horrified by the bare-faced falsehood, insidious fallacy and scurrilous untruth contained in the statement of the ruling party, just for the purpose of cheap political agenda, bearing similarities with the despicable Emperor Nero, who was fiddling while Rome burned. Enugu made history, Wednesday, as the only Nigerian city among 35 cities from across the globe invited to join the 100 Resilient Cities Network (100RC) pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation, New York. The announcement was made during The Rockefeller Foundation’s Urban Resilience Summit in Singapore. The other three African cities that made the list alongside the Coal City of Enugu are Kigali (Rwanda), Accra (Ghana) and Arusha (Tanzania). The choice of Enugu was predicated on the transformation of the road network in the city under Sullivan Chime. This was in addition to numerous national and international recognitions that have been bestowed on Enugu state. The organizers of the network said that Enugu was chosen from nearly 350 applicants on the basis of its ability to “demonstrate a unique vision for resilience, a long- term commitment to cutting across levels of government and sectors of society, a special attention to the needs of the poor and vulnerable.” The Foundation stressed that Enugu like other Network cities will serve as a model for other global cities that seek to build their own resilience. This second wave of cities will join 32 cities that won last year’s 100 Resilient Cities Challenge, forming a growing network of urban centers around the world that are ready to respond to the social, economic and physical shocks and stresses that are a growing part of the 21st century. Other renowned cities of the world invited to join the list in the 2014 edition include Athens, Barcelona, London, Paris, Boston, Chicago, Amman, Sydney and Singapore. 100-Resilient Cites was created by an initial $100 million commitment by the Rockefeller Foundation as part of their Centennial last year, recognizing the trends of urbanization and globalization that characterize this century. |
The world today is going anti clockwise not longer clockwise. Pope Francis entered mosque to seek for peace between Christians and Muslims in the country just as to encourage other countries too in sharing peace and living in love as one, but some fanatics are criticizing the man of God. Also read: Religion minus sound education is equal to retardation Equally the same way Muslims clerics could do the same and some fanatics equally criticise. If people I claim to see as leaders have not prepared and carry weapons to go and kill, why then should I do it if at all I am been told to do so? What is actually wrong with people senses. Why should I follow the teachings of my leader to destroy why him or her is busy enjoying his or her self with his family? If your leader can see God, why can't you see the same God, after all, God is not hidden to some selected persons, He is only but for all. Allow your leader to do the killings if it is innocent work by God that you are doing. God bless! |

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday told senators behind the Jonathan-Must-Go impeachment project that there were issues of national importance that needed their attention rather than the plot against him. Jonathan’s advice was contained in a reaction by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, who fired back at the senators said to be compiling signatures and impeachable offences against the President. “It is our view that there are at present, serious fundamental issues of national importance such as winning the war against terrorism and stabilising the economy in the face of dwindling oil revenue which require the full attention, commitment and swift action of distinguished members of the Senate,” Okupe said. Arrowheads of the impeachment plot against Jonathan in the Senate on Tuesday told journalists in Abuja that 65 senators had already signed to remove the President and that they would formally present a request to commence the impeachment proceedings on December 16. The senators said they would have tabled their request this week but for the adjournment in the Senate. The upper federal legislative chamber had suspended plenary till December 16 for members to participate in the ongoing primaries of the parties. Okupe’s full statement read, “The Senate in the last four years has conducted its legislative functions and responded to issues that are of great national importance with commendable political sagacity. “In this same period, the Senate has functioned as a stabilising force within the polity employing much political maturity that is required to guide and protect our nascent democracy. “However, confrontation and strong disagreements are not uncommon phenomenon in Executive- Legislative relationship world-wide. “The recent purported attempt by some senators to prepare impeachable offences against the President, as reported in some section of the media, is seen by us in this light. “We strongly trust and believe in the leadership of the present Senate and the unwavering patriotism and commitment that have been shown by the distinguished members and we trust that ultimately it is this tendency towards true nationalism that will prevail in the Senate. “It is our view that there are at present, serious fundamental issues of national importance such as winning the war against terrorism and stabilising the economy in the face of dwindling oil revenue which require the full attention, commitment and swift action of distinguished members of the Senate. “We are of the opinion that all matters political can and will be resolved politically in the overall interest of our democracy and the wellbeing of our people.” One of the arrowheads of the impeachment move in the Senate, Senator Alkali Jajere, had told journalists on Tuesday that there was no going back on the project. He had said, “As of today, the required signatures to initiate the impeachment process had been obtained. The Senate has adjourned to December 16, so by that date the impeachment motion will be presented on the floor of the Senate. “As of last week, 63 of us had signed up for the impeachment; my signature was the fourth but I can confirm to you that we have 63 signatures but after the session today two people had called and told me that they want to sign. “One of them is an All Progressives Congress senator who was away doing campaign because he is contesting the governorship election of his state. The other person is a Peoples Democratic Party senator. “Before the end of today I can assure you that the list will swell up to 70. It is on the impeachment day that we need two-thirds of the members to carry out the exercise but we need only one-third, which we already have, to initiate the process. It is just a matter of one day sitting. We will just push it before the two chambers.” Jajere said he signed the impeachment motion because of his conviction that there were impeachable offences against Jonathan and that the process had been started early in the year but was truncated. |

They all live with him in his hotel-like 100-room, four-story house perched among the hills of Baktwang village in the Indian state of Mizoram. One year, he married ten wives. Two of them sisters. His 39 wives say they are blessed to have him and take turns to share his bed. It takes 30 whole chickens, peel 132lb of potatoes and boil up to 220lb of rice to make dinner for this family. The family is organised with almost military discipline, with the oldest wife Zathiangi organising her fellow partners to perform household chores such as cleaning, washing and preparing meals. Coincidentally, Mr Chana is said to head a sect that allows members to take as many wives as they want. Rinkmini, one of Mr Chana’s wives who is now 38 years old, said: ‘We stay around him as he is the most important person in the house. He is the most handsome person in the village. As at 2011, he said he was looking at marrying new wives to expand his family. Their home…

Leading presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammad Buhari has said that there are enough evidences on ground to indicate that the 15years of PDP’s administration in Nigeria has been disastrous for the country and her people. Buhari stated this in Zamfara State capital, Gusau at weekend during his meeting with the APC delegates for the presidential primaries. General Buhari, who received a rousing welcome from the people of the state, explained that one of the major economic disasters of the PDP misrule is the neglect of the nation’s power sector which represents the life wire of every sector of the economy. He said apart from this, the PDP has over the years turned the country into a colony of corruption where dishonest government officials were not only let free, but were openly celebrated. The presidential aspirant charged every citizen of the country to keep political, sectional or any other sentiment aside and “assess our current situation and make an honest, unbiased judgement”, explaining that this will give Nigerians a clear view of the dangers we are plunged into by the PDP’s 14 years misrule of the country. He called on Nigerians irrespective of their differences “To think Nigeria first before any other sentiment.” According to him, the survival of the nation is paramount and uncompromising to every citizen. “My primary mission is to offer my best as emergency sacrifice to employ timely measures to reverse the drift in our social and economic glory”, he emphasized. “We must not allow this country to perish”, he warns, with a caution that Nigeria is heading to collapse and unless “we all put hands on deck to salvage it, history will never forgive us” he said |

Life has its dynamics. Every life has its own challenges. What are yours? Why are you not achieving your goals yet. What are your favorite excuses? The time has come to stop complaining and start achieving. You might not be fulfilling destiny yet because of one limitation or the other, but I tell you, there is no such limitation. Its only a mirage. Stop giving yourself reasons why you can't succeed and start giving yourself reasons why you must succeed. Truth is,there are so many people who have being in your situation and have successfully come out and victoriously too. If you read on you'll see a few examples why you can be a success no matter what The Abraham Lincoln case study I suppose you know the greatest American president (arguably),born into a very poor home, educated for only a year,Lincoln had the desire to learn and to succeed. His desire made him above all odds realize his dreams. He led America through the end of the civil war.(a Google search about abraham lincoln and the civil war would shed more light on this). Today,Lincoln is amongst the most admired American leaders.Your desire would make a path for you if you work hard and hold onto it long enough.. Do you think your case is worst compared to Abraham Lincoln? Check this out, The Ben Carson Story Benjamin Carson was raised by a very poor single mother(Sonya Carson). Ben and his elder brother Curtis were extremely dull in class, and this was a Time America was very racial, you don't want to combine being dull, poor and black in such a community, (now that's what I call extreme) but sadly that was the case of Ben Carson. They always come bottom in class until their mum took a DECISION. That Ben and Curtis would not play until homeworks were done, read and write a report of the books weekly to her(though she couldn't read). Ben and Curtis were not happy with this new development, but the obeyed anyway, they read two books weekly and gave written reports to their mum. Days went by and turned into weeks and months,One day in class the teacher asked a question. No one could answer, not even the most intelligent could identify this piece of rock. ALAS!!! "I sir" Ben Carson wanted to answer(can you imagine how the other students would have felt? Like what is he doing?) But the teacher recognized and asked him to answer. "Obsidian" Ben answered. He had just answered his first question. He went on to explain beyond the teachers' expectation. From then onward, Ben didn't slow down,'there and then I realized I was not stupid' Ben stated in his autobiography. He achieved so so much,Getting all forms of scholarships. At the unheard age of 30 he became the director of pediatric Neurosurgery. Friends what is holding you back from succeeding.? What is that self limiting belief you are holding? Set yourself free and relaunch your passion and desires. The truth is that you can succeed and you will.Like dr carson's Mom,take decisions that would positively affect your life. I recommend you read his book 'Gifted Hands',it a must read book for everybody who wants success the right way. If you are reading this post then you have eyes, people who don't have eyes still succeed, you don't agree? You should or read this, about physically challenged yet successful people. If you are conversant with hymns and their authors, you would have heard of Frances Jane Cosby.she was one of the most prolific hymn writers, with over 8000 hymns. despite being blind. She wrote "Blessed assurance" "Jesus is tenderly calling" "To God be the Glory" to name a few. Also blind was Adams Hellen Keller(miracle worker) and Louis Braille who by the way gave the blind a way to read and write. Tell me what can keep you from succeeding if you really want to succeed. Absolutely NOTHING. The Good book also told us of Joseph amongst others who became a ruler in a nation he was taken to has a slave. That is an achiever any day any time. Actually you can succeed too,you can win,how do I know? Because you are not alone in that situation. So many others were, many are and many will be. It has always being like that. And because others have succeeded, I want you to draw strength in achieving your purpose. these are physically challenged yet successful people, what is holding you back? Sao Paulo — The 44-year-old son of soccer legend Pele was arrested in Brazil on Tuesday after losing an appeal in a money laundering case involving a drug gang. Edson Cholbi do Nascimento, known as Edinho, had been convicted earlier this year and sentenced to 33 years in prison for laundering money for the gang. The former goalkeeper had been allowed to remain free during the process, but a local judge said his appeal was rejected. Edinho can appeal again to a higher court, but judge Suzana Pereira said in her ruling that this time he must remain in jail. Edinho's lawyers told Brazilian media that they were surprised with the ruling and will request Edinho's immediate release. Pele's press office said the former player will not immediately comment on his son's arrest. The 74-year-old Pele, a World Cup champion with Brazil in 1958, '62 and '70, successfully underwent surgery to remove kidney stones last week. He was discharged from hospital on Saturday. Edinho was taken into custody during a mandatory monthly visit to a court in the coastal city of Santos. He had spent about a week in prison in July before being allowed to appeal in freedom. He also spent six months in a maximum-security prison in 2005 after being arrested with 50 others in a sweep aimed at a gang in Santos. Prosecutors said he was associated with the criminal group. Edinho previously denied the charges against him, although he publicly said he had used drugs out of curiosity after he quit professional soccer. In the early 1990s, Edinho was charged with taking part in a high-speed race in which the other car hit and killed a motorcyclist. He was sentenced for manslaughter years later before being acquitted in 2005. Edinho played in the early 1990s with Santos, the same team where Pele played during most of his career. He had been working as an assistant coach with the eight-time Brazilian champion. |
