Crime74-yr-old Arrested For Defiling Two Girls With Photo by Wefiak1414(op): 6:07am On Oct 08, 2016

A septuagenarian, Godwin Agbada, has
blamed the devil for the alleged
defilement of two girls aged 12 and 14
years in his workshop. Agbada, who was paraded at the
headquarters of the Delta State Police
Command in Asaba, yesterday admitted to
the offence, but denied having carnal
knowledge of another victim, Ebele Olise. The 74-year-old suspect, who expressed
regret over his action, added that both
minors often came to his workshop to visit
and that he frequently gave them money. He said he is married with five children.

Asked if he could defend himself before
his wife and children following his
arrest, Agbada said: ‘Yes, I fit look my
children for face. I noh shame, but I noh
happy with wetin I do.

Na devil make me
do am.’ The Public Relations Officer of the
Delta State Police Command, Celestina
Kalu, who briefed reporters said: ‘‘On
October 3, 2016, one Sunday Umukoro
reported at the police station in Ubiaruku
that on observing the painful movement of his 12-year-old daughter, Blessing
Umukoro, he inquired from her and
discovered that on October 2, about 7:00
p.m., one Godwin Agbada, aged 74, and a
bicycle repairer at No. 9, Morka Road,
Ubiaruku, defiled the said Blessing Umukoro in his workshop at Old Ubiaruku/
Sapele road, Ubiaruku by having unlawful
carnal knowledge of her.

The said Godwin
has been arrested and medical report has
confirmed the commission of the offence.

“Investigation revealed that the victim was
invited to the suspect’s workshop by one
Ebele Olise, aged 14, where both were
defiled by the suspect who, thereafter,
gave them N200.00 each.”

HealthSome Natural Solutions To Sleep Disorders by Wefiak1414(op): 11:00am On Oct 06, 2016
Many people take sleep for granted,
simply because they fall asleep with
little or no effort. In a bus, I have
witnessed situations in which some
passengers were fast asleep when the bus
arrived at their destinations. They were either woken up by their neighbours or woke
from sleep a few bus-stops away. Such
people may suffer from sleep attacks.
One man who intrigued me about how easily
lost in sleep he could be was my gate-man
when I lived at 34, Ajanaku Street, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos. About 11p.m one day, an air
conditioner fire broke out in the children’s
room. I was lucky to be home early from
work that day and to get my family to
safety on the road, guarded by our
faithful dog named Mercury or Merc for short. Our neighbours called the fire
service, and upturned almost every property
in the house while trying to put out the fire
before the fire-men arrived. Before these
events, the gate-man had retired to the
boy’s quarters to sleep. He always did that whenever he knew we were all in-door.
This day, he was dead asleep, as we often
say. By about 3a.m, the fire engines
departed, and we managed to sleep in the
kitchen area, far away from the smell of
soot. The night shift gate-man changed duty with the morning shift gateman with
the following entry in their Security report
notebook…”everything normal”. That was
his typical entry every day, and on this
day. And it was to become my nickname for
him. He was shocked to his marrows the day after when he read my own report in
their notebook for their supervisor. There
are other people who do not sleep stone-
dead like this man, but who are,
nevertheless, easy sleepers. They fall
asleep at meetings, in church, and can’t help naps in the office. They are a
contrast to Al Herpin (1862-January 3,
1947), the American who was nicknamed
“the man who never slept”. Al Herpin We learn of this rare man and his sleep
problem from the website https://
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Herpin,
which says: “Al Herpin, who lived in Trenton, New
Jessey, claimed to have developed a rare
case of insomnia, whereby he could not
sleep. The supposed cause is unknown,
although it may be linked to his mother
suffering a major injury a few days prior to his birth. In the late 1940s, Al Herpin’s
claim attracted the attention of several
medical professionals; inspecting his
house they found no bed, or other sleep-
related furniture, but only a rocking chair.
Herpin claimed that after a long day’s work, he would rest in his rocking chair
reading the newspaper until dawn, then
return to work. He was in good health, and
had a constant level of high awareness,
defying all scientific understanding for
the necessity for sleep. Al Herpin died on January 3, 1947, reportedly at the age of
94; however, this is inconsistent with the
previous assertion that he was born in 1862.
His death saw another New York Times
story of his claim…’death came today for
Alfred E. Herpin, a recluse who lived in the outskirts of the city and insisted that
he never slept. He was 94 years old and
when questioned concerning his case of
sleeplessness, maintained that he never
actually dozed but merely rested. No other
person with total insomnia has lived for such a long period of time. It was likely
that he died for other reasons, not sleep
deprivation, as his insomnia did not seem to
have any effect on his health’. Alfred Herpin’s case is an extreme
condition, no doubt. And it is doubtful if
there is another person like him. But there are millions, if not billions of people worldwide, who hardly sleep well,
going by the volume of world market
business in sleep inducing medications. In
2012, for example, Gaylord Hospital sold
to Norwood National sleep therapy its
sleep medicine equipment which had fetched 72million US dollars that fiscal
year. No less than 18million Americans
suffer from sleep apnea, a condition in
which the airway is temporarily blocked
during sleep, making the sufferer feel
suffocated and dying. Nigerians who express this symptom often call it a
“spiritual attack”, claiming that an unseen
force presses them down with intent to kill
them. The sufferer feels he or she is
dying, but comes around, nevertheless, if
he or she is able to move a limb or scream. One of the most popular sleep medicines
sold in Nigeria is Valium. It affects
chemicals in the brain that may be
unbalanced in their functioning or
synergistic ratios in people who suffer
from anxiety and, as a result, cannot sleep well. It is also prescribed for muscle
spasms and alcohol withdrawal, among
other conditions. But it is unknown to many
people who self-medicate that valium is
contraindicated for narrow angle
glaucoma, sleep apnea, severe breathing problem, asthma, seizure and so on. Sleep disorders There may be a thousand and one reasons or
a combination of some of them why it may
be impossible for one to sleep well.
Sleeping well means achieving not just
stage one sleep but stage four sleep, also
called rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. You can imagine driving a car over hundred
kilometres in uninterrupted traffic on gear
one or gear two. That may damage the
engine. The ideal gear to drive the engine
over such a distance is gear four or gear
five, depending on the gear system of the car. A person who achieves only stage one or
stage two sleep is a light sleeper, and is
unlikely to wake up in the morning,
refreshed and bubbling with a kick-and-
go body full of energy and drive. There
are too many reasons for sleep problem to mention here. Some insomniacs are sugar
lovers. Sweet foods and drinks may cause
a sugar overload in the blood, as in pre-
diabetes or diabetes. Sugar congested blood
moves sluggishly and may not promptly
deliver blood and oxygen to the brain, and take away the waste products of brain’s
metabolism. Either way, the brain may come
under stress, and a distressed brain may not
induce sound sleep. If the sugar overload
encourages the overgrowth of candida, a
yeast form, the yeast infestation may become systemic, that is afflicting some
organs, and if the brain is one of the
afflicted systems, the nervous system may
be on fire, literally speaking. It would
require candida cleansing to restore
normalcy. Stress Many insomniacs cannot withstand stress.
The imagery of stress I enjoy most is this.
We live in a pressure-packed world.
Imagine how a pressure cooker works. In it,
you can boil rice for a meal for 10 people
in only three minutes. The pressure-cooking pot impacts terrible force on the cell wall
of the rice grains. And because their
resistance is poor, they break down quickly.
On this earth, we human beings are as
though in a pressure-cooking pot. The
pressure is to help us become inwardly more mature as we move against it and overcome
it. If the pressure within us cannot
overcome the pressure acting against us
from outside, we break down. But we are
meant by our creator never to succumb. In
fact, we need this pressure to sprout, flower and fruit. The seeds we plant in
the soil push the soil away and move
against the force of gravity to come to top
soil, sprout flower and fruit. In our case,
all we need to do is understand why we are
here on earth and understand, also, the concepts we encounter in everyday life.
These concepts are keys to the doors of
life. If you insert the wrong key in a door,
it would not turn the lock to open the door,
and you may stand before the door banging
on it and stressing yourself to no avail. Marriage is a concept. So is love. So is the
child. So is earthly possession. So are work
and duty. So is attachment or independence.
So are birth and death. The death of a
loved one may rattle some people for
months or even years. But what if the departed is enjoying himself or herself
elsewhere while we are killing ourselves
here? Wouldn’t that be selfishness on our
part? I was told of a man, who was bed-
ridden for months, suffered from severe
bed sores. He was on life support. Then, after some weeks, he came around, and the
first words he uttered were “so, I am still
here”. Apparently, in his state of coma
from which the doctors were trying to
revive him, he may have been experiencing
life in another world! So soon after, he returned there, to the sadness of his
children! Psychiatric hospitals are filled with
women who either found out about their
husbands “other women” or who were jilted
or divorced. Would they go through this
trauma if they knew that neither a husband
nor a wife was the property of the other, but a mere companion? Gibran in his book,
the prophet, says that, in marriage, spouses
should drink together, but not from the
same cup. This suggests that they are
individuals and should always allow
space between them. This suggests, also, that a marriage is not a merger or fusion of
two souls, but a union. And aren’t unions
dissolvable when the right conditions call
for it? And aren’t there many possible
companions for each person to choose from?
To only one’s creator, therefore, should one be attached. There are other sources of stress, no doubt. School fees, hospital bills, house rent,
examinations, job security and even the
fear of the traffic jam are yet others. To
these you may add environmental stressors
such as polluted air, water and food, and
noise-making. The sum total of what these stressors do is
that they overwhelm the adrenal glands.
An adrenal gland sits on top of each
kidney. They are like the shock absorbers
of a car which protects the car from the
rattle of road bumps. They produce stress chemicals which enable us cope with every
day stress up heavals without feeling
their impact. But we need the right
understanding of these events to prevent us
from unnecessary attachments or clinging
which must cause pain and stress when, in the lawful order of Nature, we must be
forcefully turn away from them to teach
us a lesson. If the pressure becomes too
much for the adrenal glands to cope with,
we may suffer from adrenal burn-out or
adrenal collapse. Hormones become disarranged, the kidneys suffer, and there
is an imbalance in the brain-calming
chemicals, particularly the ones which
help the brain to calm the nerves at
nightfall and to induce sleep. In this
situation, we can help sleep function by eating foods and using herbal supplements
which supply the body with these
exhausted chemical substances. Some other causes A deficiency of calcium and magnesium
can cause disorder. Magnesium in
particular promotes sleep. Too much
calcium and too little magnesium may
cause contractions, such as restless leg
syndrome in which knee or leg jerks awake the sufferer from sleep. Magnesium
relaxes, on the other hand. The brain needs
calmants, such as Omega-3 (DHA) oil,
lecithin (for choline and inositol), proper
blood circulation (Ginkgo biloba, cayenne
e.t.c), energy (Ubiquinol), Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), to improve nerve flow and
repair damaged nerves (Lion’s Mane
mushroom) and, if you like, the proprietary
product Amazon Brain Support and Amazon
CNS (central nervous system) support.
Depression is another major road block against restful sleep. It robs the brain in
particular of Dopamine and serotonin and
Melatonin, all neuro-transmitter. Dopamine
is also called “the happy juice”, because
people who have enough or surfeits of it
are happy and active people, and people who have a deficiency of it are sad and
inactive. And hardly sleep well. Some
recreational drugs which cross the brain-
blood barrier may damage cells which
produce dopamine. Dopamine supply to the
brain can be enhanced by consuming Tyrosine-rich foods or by taking the
supplement since Dopamine is synthesised
from Tyrosine. Evidence abounds that
Omega-3 fish oil is linked to Dopamine
production. Eggs contain tyrosine. So does
Spirulina, the green-blue algae. Ditto Kale, which, being rich in folate, triggers
dopamine production. Some others are Red
beets (Beet root) which contains Betaine
(acting as an anti-depressant) and tyrosine,
Apple (Quercitin prevents neuron-
degeneration and encourages Dopamine production). Even Banana boosts Dopamine
output. Strawberries and Blueberries, like
bananas, boost Tyrosine levels. Green tea,
too, has a hand in Dopamine production. In
the realm of herbs, the top shots are Ginkgo
biloba, Nettle, Dandelion and Ginseng. Exercise boosts Dopamine and serotonin
levels in the blood. We learn more about sleeping and waking from the website https://
sleepfoundation.org/sleep-topics/
melatonin-and-sleep: “The pattern of waking during the day
when it is light and sleeping at night when
it is dark is a natural part of human life.
Only recently have scientists begun to
understand the alternating circle of sleep
and waking, and how it is related to day light and darkness. A key factor in how
humans sleep is regulated, is expose to
light, or to darkness. Exposure to light
stimulates a nerve path way from the
retina in the eyes to an area in the brain
called the Hypothalamus. There, a special centre called the suprachiasmatic nucleus
(SCN) initiates signals to other parts of
the brain that controls hormones, body
temperature and other functions that make
us feel sleepy or wide awake. “The SCN works like a clock that sets off
a regulated pattern of activities that
affect the entire body. Once exposed to the
first light everyday, the clock in the SCN
begins performing functions like raising
body temperature and releasing stimulating hormones like cortisol. The
SCN also delays the release of other
hormones like melatonin, which is
associated with sleep onset until many
hours later when darkness arrives. ‘’Melatonin is a natural hormone made by
your body’s pineal gland. During the day,
the pineal is inactive. When the sun goes
down, the darkness occurs, the pineal is
‘turned on’ by the SCN and begins to
actively produce melatonin which is released into the blood. Usually, this
occurs around 9p.m. As a result, melatonin
levels in the blood rise sharply and you
begin to feel less alert. Sleep becomes
more inviting. Melatonin levels in the
blood stay elevated for about 12hours … ball through the night, before the light of
a new day when they fall back to low day
time levels by about 9a.m”. Vervain Today, I would like, in addition to the
aforementioned, propose Blue vervain
(Verbana histata) as a sleep aid because of
its tonic effects on all parts of the body
working synergically to promote restful
sleep. A few years ago, I wrote elsewhere the following about Vervain: “Vervain is reputed in herbal pharmacopeia
as a mild sedative and digestive herbal
tonic that will also strengthen the nerves
and gently ease nervous tensions. It is,
besides, credited with some dental care
attributes. The warm water infusion is indicated as a diaphoretic (sweat-
promoting herb) especially in the early
stages of fevers. It is said to bring high
temperature down by increasing capillary
blood circulation which, in turn, encourages
moisture and heat loss through the skin. Vervain may be found soothing, also, to the
nervous system in conditions such as nervous
headaches, sleeplessness, mild depression
and melancholia. As a digestive tonic, it is
believed to stimulate the production of
some digestive juices, including bile salts, for proper digestion of fats; it cleans up
the stomach and awakens the sluggish
liver. As a galactogogue, it would
encourage and increase the secretion of
mother’s milk. And, as an emenagogue, it
would promote menstruation. For this reason, it should not be taken during
pregnancy as it may stimulate uterine
contraction. As an anti-spasmodic, vervain
has been reported to ease spasms of
muscles, whether in the airways, stomach or
intestine. For upset stomachs, vervain is more effective in easing the spasms if the
tea is sipped rather than gulped or rushed”. I remember vervain everyday. It was the
first herb, along with Basil ocinum, I gave
a neighbour of mine when I decided to try
my hands on alternative medicine about
1994. He was an Igbo trader. He had been
vomiting food and water for about three days running, and was weak. His stomach
and intestine were afflicted with spasms.
I prepared the powder of both herbs and
gave to him. He was to sip one
tablespoonful of the solution every
15minutes or thereabout. That was on a Saturday evening. The following day, I
went for worship. When I returned in the
evening, my wife suggested I check him
up. When he sighted me, he screamed ‘it’s a
miracle…it’s a miracle’. That Saturday
evening, the spasms eased. He asked for boiled rice and did not vomit it. A few
hours t later, he asked for Eba and it went
down. This miracle encouraged me in this
practice.
PoliticsBREAKING: Court Orders FG To Pay N15m For 'unlawfully' Arresting Dasuki by Wefiak1414(op): 8:23pm On Oct 04, 2016
The court of the Economic Community of West
African States (ECOWAS) has ordered the federal
government to pay N15m as compensation to Sambo
Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA), for
his “unlawful arrest”.
The court described as “unlawful and arbitrary”, his arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS)
after local courts had granted him bail.

CrimeTwo Killed, Three Injured In Ikorodu Cult Clash by Wefiak1414(op): 8:16pm On Oct 04, 2016
At least two persons have been confirmed dead and
three others injured in a cult clash in the Ikorodu
area of Lagos. The Nation gathered that those killed in the battle
that commenced Sunday night were one Omotayo, a
fresh graduate of Lagos State University (LASU)
and one Temitayo Kehinde. While Omotayo, suspected to be a member of the
confraternity was killed on Monday at
Anibaba Street, the other victim was gunned down on
Tuesday morning. Those injured included a four-year-old boy, a
septuagenarian and one Taye Ominike, all
recuperating at the General Hospital in Ikorodu. According to a source, the supremacy battle between
the and Eiye cult groups grounded
activities at Owolowo, Omini and Anibaba Streets, as
the gunmen shot sporadically each time they came
for their rivals. He said: “Since Sunday, businesses have been shot
down in the areas. The gunmen are cultists and they
have been fighting. The Eiye people started the
fight on Sunday and we heard they shot some Axe
members. On Monday, they killed Omotayo and
injured one old woman and a four-year-old boy. “In revenge, the Axe people around 3:00 p.m. on
Monday also started shooting and killed Kehinde.
They shot Taye Ominike but he didn’t die. People
have been afraid to come out since then. They also
fought yesterday too. The issue is serious.” A local vigilante, who confirmed that there had
been tension in the area since Sunday, said the
vigilante group (Onyabo) members were forced to go
after the cultists. He said: “When we saw what was happening, our
members came out and went after the cultists. Six of
them were arrested in their hideouts and handed over
to policemen at Igbogbo Division. At the moment, we
are looking for three of their leaders, 70, Agali
and Debby because we learnt they were responsible for the fracas.” Efforts to get the state police spokesperson, Dolapo
Badmos, a Superintendent of Police (SP), to comment
on the issue failed.
PoliticsReps Charge FG On 50 Nigerian Students Arrested In Turkey by Wefiak1414(op): 8:07pm On Oct 04, 2016
The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged the
Federal Government to explore all diplomatic means
of rescuing the student arrested by the Turkish
Gvernment and resolve the issue. The House also mandated its committees on Foreign
Affairs, Diaspora Matters, Interior and Tertiary
Institutions to investigate the matter and report back
to the House in one week for further legislative
duties. The resolution of the House was sequel to the
passage of a motion sponsored by a member Hon.
Solomon Bulus Maren under matter of urgent
national Importance. Maren while moving the motion noted that 50
Nigerian students were illegally arrested and
detained on October 1st 2016 at the Instanbul Airport
on arrival to pursue their education. He noted he continuous humiliation of Nigerian
Students and nationals in various countries of the
world without any diplomatic intervention by the
Nigerian Government. “Recall the murder of a Nigerian student in Dubai
who was thrown from a multi- storey building, the
case of our dear sister Julie who is bedridden in a
rehabilitation home for the elderly and mentally ill
in Italy due to doctors torture and maltreatment . The
death of a Nigerian students and Nationals around the globe on flimsy excuses. The lawmaker recalled the July 15th failed Coup
in Turkey and the clampdown on 2099 schools,
dormitories and Universities and the allegations that
they were terrorist institutions due to,their links with
Islamic scholar Fetullar Gulten “whom the Turkish
Government has accused of being the mastermind of the failed coup in Turkey.” Maren expressed concern that some of the arrested
students are being humiliated and abused, while
some are sick and are being held in dark rooms. “Of the 102 countries that have students in that
university, only Nigerian students are being treated
in this manner, whereas other countries have sorted
out their’s diplomatically,” the lawmaker said. The Chairperson of the House Committee on Foreign
Affairs, Hon. Nnena Elendu- Ukeje while
speaking on the matter said Nigeria will not
normally interfere in the internal workings of any
country especially when its in a situation that seem to
threaten their democracy. “As a country we also owe a responsibility to our
citizens to know exactly where they are or how their
doing in their host country. But we would draw the
line when it comes to that number of our citizens who
have been arrested in a foreign country and
especially charged with treason. “It is pretty heavy, and any responsible country and
parliament would want to find out exactly what the
true status is,mand that’s what we intend to do,
moving forward.” Also, the Chairman of the House Committee on
Diaspora Matters Hon. Rita Orji described the arrest
of the students as an assault on Nigerians. She said that the fact that’s were taken from the
airport to detention is an insult on the sovereignty of
Nigeria as a whole. According to her, it is not
enough to allege that the student may be linked to
schools that are supposedly linked with terrorism. She said it would have been better if the government
of Nigeria had been informed on the suspicion of
the Turkish government, rather than clamping
innocent Nigerian into detention. “I have to let Nigerians know that it is high time we
rose up to this challenge. So that people will know
that the life of every Nigerian student abroad
matter.”

PoliticsRelease Dasuki Now, ECOWAS Court Tells FG by Wefiak1414(op): 3:51pm On Oct 04, 2016
The Court of the Economic Community of West
African States, ECOWAS, on Tuesday declared the
arrest and detention of former National Security
Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd), as unlawful
and arbitrary.
The court also held that the further arrest of Col. Dasuki by government on November 4, after he was
granted bail by a court of law, amounts to a mockery
of democracy and the rule of law.
Dasuki is facing multiple trials for alleged
diversion of $2.1 billion meant for the purchase of
arms in the immediate past administration. He is also accused of illegal possession of fire
arms. He approached the ECOWAS court after he
was rearrested by members of Nigeria’s State
Security Service shortly after meeting his bail
conditions in November last year.
He has remained in the custody of the SSS since his arrest. On Tuesday, a three-member panel led by
Justice Friday Nwoke said Nigeria’s government
was wrong in arresting Mr. Dasuki without a search
warrant, adding that the pattern of arrest negates
the provisions of Section 28 of the Nigerian Police
Act. According to the said section, a superior police officer may authorise the search of a resident
belonging to a suspect assumed to be in illegal
possession of an item, if the officer so authorised
has a search warrant. Details later…

LiteratureMy World Would Be So Different If You Were Still Alive by Wefiak1414(op): 2:40pm On Oct 03, 2016
It doesn’t matter that it’s been years since you’ve
passed away. It doesn’t matter that half of the
people that are now in my life have never even met
you. I still think about you all the time. I still wish
you were here. After all, everything would be so
different if you were still alive. Of course, when I say “everything,” I don’t actually
mean everything. Chances are, I’d still be living
under the same roof and working the same job. I’d
still be dating the same boy and taking care of the
same dog. Only little things would change, but the
little things mean the most. If you were still alive, I wouldn’t have to push the
happy memories away, because they’re too painful to
replay in my head. I’d just think of them and
smile, and then pick up the phone to give you a call. If you were still alive, I’d have one more person to
introduce my boyfriend to. One more person to
embarrass me with awkward stories about my
childhood. One more person to welcome him into our
bleeped up family. If you were still alive, then there would be one more
voice cheering over the fireworks on Fourth of
July. One more voice yelling at the baseball game
and one more voice singing along to whatever
bullshit song popped on the radio. If you were still alive, there would be one less
tattoo adorning my body. One less date that made me
burst into tears every single year. Your birthday
would be the only date that reminded me of you, and
we’d have a hell of a good time celebrating. If you were still alive, there’d be one more person
for me to call whenever I needed a designated
driver. One more person to scream at me for acting
like an irresponsible kid. One more person to make
me feel like I’d be missed if anything ever
happened to me. If you were still alive, there would be one more
invitation to send out for my wedding. One more
person to dance with when The Electric Slide
flooded through the speakers. One more person to
tear up and tell me how happy they are for me and
my new hubby. If you were still alive, I’d have one more person to
show around my new apartment. One more person to
dog-sit for me during weeklong vacations. One more
person to tell me that they’re proud of everything
I’ve become. If you were still alive, I wouldn’t have to talk to
you through prayers or through my dreams. I could
send you a text or write you a letter or just show up
on your front step in the middle of the goddamn
night, and you’d be happy to listen. If you were still alive, I wouldn’t have pushed
certain people away. I wouldn’t be as pessimistic
and cold as I am now. I wouldn’t be so terrified of
losing someone again, someone I care about as much
as you. But if you were still alive, I might not have
realized that the whole “live each day like it’s your
last” mindset is legit. That I need to treasure every
moment while I still can and tell my family I love
them as much as possible. As much as I miss you, I’m thankful for what you
taught me while you were here, and what you’re
continuing to teach me now that you’re gone.
Christianity EtcThe Sin That Makes God Cry by Wefiak1414(op): 2:25pm On Oct 03, 2016
No beating around the bush and no soft- pedaling. Let me give it to you straight.
The sin that makes God cry is being
committed daily - not by pagan workers
of iniquity, but by multitudes of
Christians! It is the sin of doubting God's
love for His children. Do you think it makes God sound too
human and too vulnerable to say that He
cries? Then ask yourself, how could a
God of love not cry when His own people
doubt His very nature? How could He not
be grieved when His own children act as though He has forsaken them and left
them to their own devices? Jesus Christ
was God in the flesh, and according to
the book of John He wept when those
closest to Him doubted His love and
concern. That was God incarnate at the tomb of Lazarus, crying over friends
who would not take Him at His word. Crying because their unbelief caused them
unnecessary grief and sorrow. Crying
because they failed to recognize who He
was and rest in His promises. Time and time again Christ's dearest
associates on this earth doubted His love
for them. Think back to the story of the
disciples in a storm tossed boat that was
apparently taking on water. Jesus was in
the stern of the boat, sound asleep. Fearing for their lives, His followers
shook Him awake and then accused Him
of outright unconcern. "Master, carest thou
not that we perish?" (Mark 4:38). How
their accusation must have grieved the
Lord! That was almighty God in their boat! How could God not care? But
whenever men take their eyes off the Lord
and concentrate instead on their
circumstances, doubt always takes over.
Jesus was astounded! "How can you be
afraid when I am with you? How can you question My love and care? Have you no
confidence in Me at all" (verse 40)? Christians today grieve the Lord in this
matter even more. Our unbelief is a greater
affront to Him than the unbelief of
Mary, Martha, and all the disciples, for
our sin is committed against greater light.
We stand on a higher mountain and see more than they could ever see. We have a
completed Bible with a full and detailed
record of God's trustworthiness. We have
the written testimonies of almost twenty
centuries of Christians, generation after
generation of godly fathers who have passed down to us unshakeable proofs of
God's love. And that is not all. We have countless
personal experiences that testify to God's
tender love and affection for us. Is there
a single Christian who dares to say he
has not personally witnessed the Lord's
loving intervention in the details of his life many times over? Yet we continue to
doubt His love. When difficulties arise
and the Lord seems to delay in aiding us
as we think He should, we pout. We
think nothing of going about the business
of our everyday lives filled with doubts about His loving kindness. We doubt He
is hearing our cry. We doubt He will do
what is right. We doubt Him at every turn
- and never once see the exceeding
sinfulness of our unbelief. We refuse to
admit that our accusing heart could be making God cry.

CrimeWhat A Man That Kill His Wife For Refusing Sexual Intercourse With Him by Wefiak1414(op): 9:16pm On Aug 11, 2016
An Ado Ekiti Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 42-
year-old man, Josiah Johnson, in prison for
allegedly beating his wife, Julianah, to death for
denying him sex. The offence was committed on July 3 at Erio Ekiti
community in Ekiti West local government area of
Ekiti State. The deceased was said to have declined her
husband’s request for sex on grounds that she did
not want to get pregnant again after having seven
children for the accused. When the case came up for hearing on Thursday,
police prosecutor, Sgt. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the
court that the accused pounced on his late wife and
give beat her until she died. The prosecutor said the accused turned the deceased to
a punching bag by hitting her with his fists
repeatedly and went ahead to forcefully have sex
with her until she gave up the ghost during the act. According to Oriyomi, the offence contravened
Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Laws
of Ekiti State 2012. The prosecutor further told the court that he had
duplicated the case file and forwarded same to
Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP)
for legal advice. The accused plea was not taken as his counsel,
Tunde Falade, sought for a short adjournment
pending the outcome of legal advice from the office
of the DPP. The Presiding Magistrate, Taiwo Ajibade, ordered
that the accused be remanded in Ado Ekiti Prisons
while legal advice is being awaited from the DPP
office. She adjourned the case to September 12 for further
hearing

make any mistakes in Saturday's Olympics quarter
final game against Denmark if they are to progress
in the tournament. The Dream Team VI bowed 2-0 to Colombia in their
last group game and the tactician says there must be
improvements else get bounced out. “Of course when you make too many changes, it
won't work the way you expected,” said Siasia. “Going into the knockout stage, that's a different
ball game. If you lose, you go home, so all those
mistakes we have been making mostly in the backline
have to be corrected. “We didn't do a good job on the Colombian
forwards. We really have to work harder on our
defending. "In the first half, we had a couple of good chances
and Etebo had a very good one that he should have
scored. But one good thing about him is that he
always put himself in good positions. “He didn't score today; that's football. Hopefully,
in the next game, we can convert our chances and
defend better."

The Frenchman's move to Manchester United and
Gonzalo Higuain's €90 million transfer to Juventus
merely underline that 'the beautiful game' is uglier
than ever before Ads by Google

Stop seeing this ad COMMENT When AC Milan broke the world transfer record in
the summer of 1992 by paying approximately €15.2
million for Torino winger Gianluigi Lentini, the
Vatican labelled the sum "an offence to the dignity
of work". Of course, for the Catholic Church of the
time to take such a moralistic stance has transpired to be the height of hypocrisy but there was no denying
that the fee was outrageous, as were the circumstances
surrounding the deal. Lentini's San Siro switch represented the third time
that the transfer record had been broken that summer,
with Milan having acquired Jean-Pierre Papin from
Marseille before Juventus responded by signing
Sampdoria striker Gianluca Vialli. The two bitter
rivals then became locked in a bidding war for Lentini. It was little more than a billionaire p***ing
contest which ridiculously saw a talented but
unproven 23-year-old become the most expensive
player of all time. Football, it seemed, had
spiralled out of control. The spending, however, has only become more
reckless and offensive over the past 24 years. The
beautiful game is uglier than ever before. Shortly after midnight on Monday, Manchester
United confirmed that they had reached an agreement
with Juventus to re-sign Paul Pogba for a fee of
€105m. From a footballing and financial
perspective, there are grounds for justifying such
an exorbitant fee. Pogba is one of the finest midfielders in the world and he has his peak years
ahead of him. He is also among the most marketable
young sportsmen on the planet and will generate
millions in merchandise sales and commercial deals.
He will likely make most of the money back
without having to win a trophy. But on a purely human level, it is impossible to
defend this deal - particularly in the current
economic and political climate. Arsene Wenger was
right when he argued that the Pogba deal "is
completely crazy if you compare it to normal life".
Jose Mourinho immediately retorted that it was "not ethical" for other managers to be critical of other
clubs’ spending, which, on one level, was amusing,
given there is no place in an ethical debate for a man
who eye-gouged a fellow coach and helped drive
an innocent referee and a skilled medical
professional out of the game. Furthermore, just as United are free to pay over €105m for one player
and Juve €90m for another in the shape of Gonzalo
Higuain, the rest of us have the right to comment on
disturbingly high transfer fees. Indeed, the fact United, Juventus, Real Madrid,
Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain
can afford to pay such sums doesn't make it right.
Football has long existed within its own bubble; it
is not, as Wenger noted, "normal life". However, the
sport is now becoming ever more detached from reality and that should concern everyone involved. We presently reside in a world of great financial
and social instability. Greece, for example, remains
on the verge of economic collapse, with an
unemployment rate of just under 25 per cent and just
under half of their 14-28-year-olds neither in
employment nor education. Youth unemployment in France has hovered at around 25% since the 2008
financial crisis, according to Eurostat. There is
widespread uncertainty across the continent
following the United Kingdom's decision to
withdraw from the European Union, with the
British pound immediately losing around 12% of its value. Millions of asylum seekers live in abject
poverty and a constant state of fear, while racial
tensions in the United States are at their highest for
50 years. In such circumstances, it is becoming
increasingly difficult for the average man to relate
to those running and playing the game we love - and therein lies the danger of complete collapse. In one of the seminal scenes in Robert De Niro’s
criminally underrated 'A Bronx Tale', local mafia
kingpin Sonny LoSpecchio asks the nine-year-old
Calogero Anello why he is so invested in the
fortunes of the New York Yankees, and superstar
centre fielder Mickey Mantle in particular. "Mickey Mantle makes a $100,000 a year - how
much does your father make?" LoSpecchio enquires.
"You see if your father can't pay the rent, go ask
Mickey Mantle and see what he tells you. Mickey
Mantle doesn't care about you - so why should you
care about him? Nobody cares." Calogero admits: “I never thought the same way
about the Yankees again.” This is the perilous position in which football now
finds itself: on the verge of alienating the very
people that fund the whole enterprise. And it has
been a long time coming. In 1998, former Newcastle United chairman Freddy
Shepherd was infamously caught on camera mocking
Magpies fans for, among other things, spending
obscene amounts of money on club merchandise. Six
years later, the same man addressed the financial
problems facing clubs in the lower leagues, telling the Dubai Soccerex international football forum:
"When we have got 52,000 fans at each home game,
the last thing we are worried about is clubs in the
third division." It is unfair to single out Shepherd,
of course, given his views are commonplace. The Premier League itself is a product of the avarice
of England's elite. The creation of the Champions
League was fuelled by the same desire for profit,
only on a grander scale. The recently proposed
European Super League is the logical next step. In such a climate of pure capitalism, it is no wonder
that the principal protagonists of this latest
addition to the entertainment industry have become
increasingly preoccupied with getting their 'fair
share'. As Benoit Assou-Ekotto admitted in a
tremendously insightful interview with the Guardian in 2010, he is solely motivated by financial gain. The former Tottenham full-back
quite justifiably views football as his profession
(in his defence, he added: "When I’m at work, I
give 100 per cent"wink. Acutely aware that his career
will not extend much beyond 15 years even if he
manages to avoid serious injury, his primary focus is on making as much money as possible during that
time. READ MORE | Pogba: Mou will make me better PLAY - Hide Videos He also pointed out that he was by no means alone in
viewing transfer opportunities in nothing other than
monetary terms, revealing that he was appalled by
two-faced team-mates who publicly stated their love
of a club while at the same time privately revealing
a willingness to leave for a rival if their contractual demands were not satisfied. Assou-Ekotto’s refreshingly honest words, like
those of Sonny, brutally exposed the mercenary-like
nature of the professional sportsman. Pogba spoke
this week of returning "home" to his first "family"
but the truth is that he left Juventus because his
agent wanted him to. Mino Raiola stands to make €35m on the deal. Pogba will also pocket a small
fortune – just like Higuain, thanks to his transfer
from Napoli to Juventus. As one-club man Francesco Totti said of the
Argentine’s transfer from Napoli to Juventus:
"Modern players are a bit like nomads. They are
following the money, not their heart. Not many
athletes follow their heart. Football has changed a
lot; it is all about money now. Players change teams all the time, to make a bit more money elsewhere. It's
more about money than about passion. People go to
the stadiums to enjoy themselves and to see players
in action who will always be with their team. They
expect not to be betrayed. But just look at what
happened with Higuain, leaving Napoli for [bitter rivals] Juventus. It's a disaster." Such moves will have far-reaching consequences, as
they merely serve to highlight the absurdity of
forming any sort of attachment with
multimillionaire stars. Yet some fans will not only
defend but idolise players found guilty of
behaviour that would result in instant dismissal in any other profession; from rape to racism, anything
can be excused so long as the player performs well
in the shirt. In this regard, we are just as culpable,
having been willing participants in the creation of
an environment in which players can be placed above
the laws, ethics and morals by which we are all held accountable. After all, it is we who ultimately
pay their wages by buying overpriced season tickets,
purchasing multiple satellite TV subscriptions and
acquiring each and every strip a club produces. Admittedly, if you’re reading this article, on a
dedicated football website, it can be safely assumed
that you love the game - and love, by definition, is
irrational. It is based on emotions that are difficult
to put into words let alone define or understand. But
we are united by a collective sense of belonging based on our support of a certain nation, club or
merely 'the beautiful game' itself. However, we must accept that for many of those
involved in football today, it is not about a love of
the game. Football is not, as Danny Blanchflower
would have liked, about glory - it is about money.
Thus, the gap between those within the game and
those that support it is larger than ever before. This is neither a healthy nor sustainable relationship: it is
one-sided and exploitative, and consequently, on the
verge of collapse. Indeed, there is now a very real
danger that unless something is done, unless the
powers that be successfully manage to increase the
influence of fans in the running of clubs, to give supporters a greater sense of attachment, the game
will implode. At the end of 'A Bronx Tale', Calogero realises that
Sonny was wrong about one thing: his assertion that
"nobody cares". People still care. People still love
football - but they are becoming detached and, soon,
disillusionment will give way to indifference. Encouragingly, we have already seen the first
signs of unrest, the first signs of supporters
standing up for themselves by boycotting games in
Germany, England and elsewhere over ticket prices.
However, change will only be possible if everyone
comes together to demand widespread reform because if the greed that is currently destroying the game
goes unchecked, it will only be a matter of time
before we, like Calogero, stop caring not only about
our teams, but the game itself
