Lola is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and journalist who, after residing in the United States for 12 years, has moved back to her country. Her song, “Move (Like This)”, chronicles the experiences of a Naija JJC in a land with extreme possibilities and impossibilities.‘

Politics / Scoring Babatunde Fashola, Lagos State Governor, At Two Years by WendKuni1(f): 1:47pm On May 19, 2009
We are conducting an objective assessment of the governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola, so far, and would like to solicit the help of Nairalanders who are Lagosians or familiar with the governor's tenure. Please score the governor on the below categories on a scale of 1 to 10; ten being the highest score and one being the lowest. Thank you for your help.

A. Crime/Security

B. Job creation

C. Housing

D. Waste management

E. Public transportation

F. Taxes/Revenue

G. Energy Independence

H. Infrastructure (Good roads, clean water, etc)

I. Social responsibility (maintaining social welfare of citizens)

J. Healthcare

Tip: Answers would be preferred in this form - If you score the governor 9 on healthcare, simply put J9.  Thanks for your help.
Music/Radio / Re: Asa's Lyrics by WendKuni1(f): 4:26pm On Apr 04, 2008
I don't understand why folks say that you can't tell Asa is Nigerian 'cause of her lyrics. I don't understand that at all. This is the country that gave birth to Chinua Achebe (who just celebrated the 50th anniversary of "Things Fall Apart"), Wole Soyinka (Death & The King's Horseman), Cyprian Ekwensi (Burning Grass, Mallam Ilia's Passport), Mabel Segun (My Father's Daughter), Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, and so many other -- countless, in fact -- talented people in the arts.

So I just don't understand why that comment is being thrown around.
Music/Radio / New Music Video You Might Like by WendKuni1(f): 11:13pm On Apr 01, 2008
As an singer-songwriter, you find yourself vulnerable especially when your lyrics are personal.  It's also something else to perform in front of a camera and reveal that to the world.  So for a while, I was hesitant to put this video out to the public but I have decided to do so, knowing that the decision to be an artist is a decision to go public.

Please feel free to leave comments here or on youtube.  Feel free to pass the video along to your friends.  Listen to the lyrics of the song and let me know if they resonate with any of you.

And most of all, enjoy smiley

Thanks and happy viewing.

Music/Radio / Re: Is It Being Fake To Listen To Rock? by WendKuni1(f): 5:08pm On Sep 18, 2007
I like that, Rock Rocks.

I think it's hard to be pretentious when it comes to listening to music. It's hard to bop your head to something you don't like. When it comes to music, be true to yourself, even if it's heavy metal. I love ABBA. I'm not saying they're rock. I'm just saying I get weird looks for it. Be true to yourself is all I'm saying. If rock music is what you like, then don't let some slightly tipsy girl convince you otherwise.

Dear Ritchboi,

Thanks for your post. The thing is there are almost 500 entries on the site. Neither the radio station nor any of the contestants expect anyone to listen to all 500 songs. This initial part of the competition is really not about the best song but about who can get the most people to vote for them. I think this also helps the radio station as it brings lots of traffic to their web site. After the top 10 songs have been chosen, then the battle for the best song will really begin. I think it's easier to listen to 10 songs than 500. I'm sorry that some of you aren't able to listen to the music. As I write, I'm trying to see if I can retrieve "Lovesick" and put it on myspace. I will let you guys know as soon as that is done.

Shaunscot, thanks for your kind words. I do believe in my work as an artist and would never ask for votes for subpar work.

To Aisha2 and everyone else who voted without even hearing the song, I say thanks.

Wow,

I thought I'd just perhaps discovered some unknown relative and then I realized you're talking about me! A million thanks. I'm going to archive your post. Never have I received so positive a review smiley

So everyone, you heard the man. (I'm assuming you're a man) Vote! Vote! Vote! My sincere thanks to all the folks who have voted already.

Thank you.

PS - I think you meant Lola Okusami not Remi Okusami

Hi, my Naija brethren.  I'm an acoustic rock singer/songwriter in the Los Angeles area and I'm inviting you all to vote for me.  Star 98.7FM, Los Angeles, is holding a song competition. I entered my song, "Lovesick," and I need for you all to vote to get me in the Top 10.

The winning prize is $10,000 and, more importantly, a spot on a compilation CD that will feature artists like John Mayer, Goo Goo Dolls, Pink, etc.  Winning this could lead to career-making exposure.

Hisson3

Thanks. Please feel free to contact me through myspace so we can talk further. I'm interested in any contacts you might have.
Music/Radio / Re: Future Of Rock Music In Nigeria by WendKuni1(f): 1:32am On Aug 11, 2007
Thanks, Chasong, for responding. It was my first time recording in the studio so please excuse the lapses. On more recent stuff, I sound much better vocally. Also, the music on myspace hasn't been mastered, so the levels are kinda all over the place. But thanks for the critique. I really appreciate it. And, yes, I look forward to working together.
Music/Radio / Re: Future Of Rock Music In Nigeria by WendKuni1(f): 12:26am On Aug 11, 2007
Hi my fellow Naija people,

I stumbled upon this particular post about rock music and Nigeria. I've been in a kind of quandary myself 'cause I've wanted to go back home and be a rock artist there, but I'm not really sure what the Naija appreciation for rock music is. I like Chasong's comment, "So except you actually say, I PLAY ROCK, people will like your music if its tight." I have some music samples of songs I've written and performed at www.myspace.com/lolaokusamimusic.
I'll be interested in what you guys think.

Thanks.
