debbiejosh:
Canadians are nice, but even good morning might be too much for some of them. Hi & hello is okay, and some don't even respond or know how to greet, so just face your work with no hard feelings.
With time, you would adjust and might make a few friends.
The background is study your work environment, get to work on time, do your work, be polite and leave, with time, you would get on with the flow.

For the layer thing, Its not so bad, during the winter, I don't wear skirts and dresses, except the weather is really nice, and I take the public transit a lot.
Nobody is looking at anyone, so please layer up, the effect of the cold after, especially with the snow no be here.
You would need to invest in Long John/thermal wear, wear another legging or two(depending on how you can cope with cold), before the last layer.
If you feel hot during the day, you can get into the washroom to take a layer off, with time you would adjust and might not really need to dress like "babasuwe".

Lastly, before you leave home, you would need to check the weather for the day, funny enough, it can change within the twinkling of an eye, so the advice is always carry your coat, if you land in Calgary, even in winter, the sun Would shine in the afternoon as an effect of the Chinook wind, but it would still be cold.

For those asking about coats, especially if landing in the thick of winter, the truth is Canadian cold e get as it be, I would advise that you get your thick jacket:okrika or any where, this would help you in a way from the airport, so you are not taken away by the cold that would hit you.
When you get in, you can get quality coats from thrift stores, for the kids, snow jackets are essential with boots.

The winnter hits at everyone, even Canadians dread it, so please, cover up, no fashion inside winter.
During work hours, stay away from your personal phone as much as possible. In one of the short jobs I had a while back, my boss called me aside and cautioned me because he noticed that my hand is always quick to get on my cell phone at the slightest opportunity. He said your bosses will assume that you are using work hours to do personal stuff.

Also, study your work environment, there are lots of people with various allergies and one common one is being allergic to heavy perfumes as it is a common practice with many Nigerians. In that same office, an elderly lady "Alice" had terrible allergy to fragrance that she loses breath when one comes too close. So, it's advisable to use light fragrance or deodorants if neccessary.

God bless.

You can use your phone freely during coffee and lunch breaks.

@adiahabasi

I can only comment based on my experience thus far which is most likely limited in its scope. I like Calgary, it's a lovely city. The areas to avoid based on popular opinion, is the north east and some parts of south east. Incidences of crime and addiction are higher there.
However, I've been to areas in the SE like McKenzie towne, new Brighton, milrise which are all very lovely areas. I've been to the NE a few times and I think it's probably one of the old areas in Calgary. During the day, it appears fine to me. It's more commercialised as well. Lots of Asian shops.
Generally, downtown which is the business district is best avoided at night as well. I think this rule applies to all urban cities.

The NE is also the area to purchase halal meats , frozen fish, tomatoes and stuff in bulk at cheap prices. Also car repair shops are cheaper there. I recently got my car tyres changed at $35/each as service charge in the SW and apparently found out there's a shop in the NE that does it for $20/each.

School districts. I don't know much about this but I do know that the SW has good school districts. You can easily find out by checking the school ratings in Alberta online.

High brow areas in Calgary. Aspen in the SW and Chestermere in the NW. I've been to both. That's where you see houses that stand on an acre of land with each driveway displaying range rovers, Mercedes etc etc. The 2 persons I've visited there are Nigerians. One is a medical doctor and another is a successful business owner.

Getting stuff at bargain prices. kijiji.ca is the way to go. Also varagesale app for the Calgary area. Initially kijiji was a bit frustrating for me to use because I felt there were way too many posts and having to wade through it seemed like a herculean task. However, it is still the place to go. You can get unbelievable deals. For instance we bought our deep freezer for $20 off someone who posted it on kijiji. She just needed it gone as she was moving. We also got our car off someone on kijiji for a really good price. It's also a good forum to list stuff you wanna give away for free or sell. People even list their businesses (mostly franchises) on kijiji for sale.
Great info vcole.
However, a few additions;
Current crime stats from the calgary police website shows SW with the highest crime rates with places like Belt line and downtown like you have mentioned. Chestermere is not in the NW, it is located east of calgary about 10 minutes off 16th or 17th Ave SE.

Overall, Calgary is a beautiful place to live and safe as well if you know the places to avoid. Cheers
RomanceRe: Can You Give Your Spouse/lover Your ATM Card To Pay Their Bills? by wengerly(m): 10:30pm On Aug 04, 2017
There's nothing we don't exchange; phones, ATM, we even reply each others mails and chats. When you chat with me online, you can not suspect the person replying you whether it's me or my spouse. Life is too short to live in distrust. God has blessed me with one I can trust with anything and everything.

I suppose what he meant by close to UofC is nearness to train station. Besides, it is approximately 18minutes from University Train Station to City Hall which isn't bad and the easiness of getting to other places from downtown.
Thanks, I just needed clarification.

Hello All,

I plan to have my baby in US, then fly to Canada a few weeks after having my baby and finally return to Nigeria from Canada.

My question is, with a valid Canada visitor Visa this multi city itinenary shouldn't be a problem at either POE right?
It shouldn't be an issue as long your entry and exits are clearly stated in your tickets.

Kijiji isn't bad, but my sincere advise to anyone will be get to canada b4 renting an apartment cos even if the place exist it might not be the way u see it online. Most schools have temporary accommodation and even some trusted house holders that students can rent for a nite or two, pls let's go for the temporary accommodation instead of booking from Nigeria.
Absolutely true, the pictures you see on kijiji or other rental sites might be slightly different from reality. You need to see the housr for yourself, check the neighbourhood as well before you commit your hard-earned funds.

Finally got my tickets to Winnipeg
Royal Air Maroc

Lagos to Casablanca (royal air Maroc)

Casablanca to Montreal(royal air Maroc)

Montréal to Winnipeg (Air Canada)

Now my question is

Where do I get my study permit?
Do I have to get my luggage at Montreal and check it into air Canada?

AGAIN WHICH IS MY POINT OF ENTRY WHERE I GET MY STUDY PERMIT MONTREAL OR WINNIPEG?

CC:mesh2003 derel Austinpee4 dogice Salford1
Since Montreal is your first point of entry into canada, you will have to clear CBSA and get your permit in Montréal. The flight from Montreal to Winnipeg is considered a local flight.

Nice videos.. But there is no absolute/definite guideline for settlement for immigrants, when you get there, with time you'll adjust properly.
Videos like this just assist you in understanding the whole process
Absolutely, everyone might have a unique and different experience.

Good day all,

Please I need information on winter in Winnipeg. Is it advisable to land in winter? I have little kids and I'm concerned on landing in winter?
It is up to you. But if you can, try land before it gets deep in the winter to allow your children adjust gradually. However, if you are well dressed for the weather, you will cope.
