That there is a social media war between several ethnic groups on NL, most especially the SW and SE is an obvious fact. This war is more visible on NL between Easterners, who are mainly Christians and SouthWestern MUSLIMS. Let me be clear on this. The SW christians are more at home with the SE christian, even than the Yoruba muslims.
I chose to emphasis this fact so an average observer can easily understand the game. The average Yoruba Christian is more at home with an average Igboman/woman. Infact, in Nigeria inter-ethnic marriages, business partnership and relationships, more than any other tribes, the Igbos and Yoruba (mostly christians) relate more. This is a clear fact. On the flip side, the average Yoruba muslim relate better with the Hausa-Fulanis.
If you go to any church in SW, you will find Igbos and Yoruba Christians relating more on the basis of their faith, than ethnicity. Igbos tend to trust Yoruba christians and respect them more. Same with Yorubas christians. I know some Igbo friends that marry Yorubas, especially Christians. However, the Yoruba Muslims are totally different. They regard everyone from former Bendel to Cross River as Igboid or call them derogatory names used during civil war. No Yoruba muslim woman is freely allowed to marry non-muslims Igbo or Southerner, but Yoruba muslim men seek Igbos or other Southern Christian girls.
This discrimination and endless disagreement is NOT REALLY TRIBAL, but religious.
A cusory look at the fanatical "tribal" monikas on NL wil show that 90% of those against Igbos and other Southerners are muslims. The muslims are more inclined to support northern oligarchy than any Southern liberation. This is the delimma of the South.
My suggestion is simple, Southerners should begin to ignore the tantrums from these Southern muslims. As we forge ahead to a liberated Southern Nigeria, our focus should be on having a country where the constitution guarantees the Supremacy of God. respect of our multiculturalism and rule of law.
So, my Southern brothers, Niger Delta sisters and Edo friends, let us ignore the supposed ethnic gingoists and forge ahead. Those calling Yorubas derigatory names should stop. I can assure you that the Yoruba Christians do not call other tribes derogatory names.
