Igbo heritage can mean so many things. It could be by way of borrowed culture, language, marriage or anything. For instance in the time past pupils were taught in schools in the old east in Igbo language.

I am Ikwerre. The most derogatory name you can associate an ikwerre man with is Igbo. If you call an ikwerre man Igbo he interprets it that you have called him a slave. This is the particular reason an Ikwerre man will never accept to be Igbo. How this stigma started I do not know but it is the common feelings among us. It is in recent times like in the 90s that some ikwerre ladies started to accept to marry Igbos. Previously an Ikwerre father will never give out his daughter to an Igbo person.
