Religion / Re: Fake Miracle Syndicate Arrested In Enugu, Says Pastor Hired Them by WhatOnEarth: 5:55am On Aug 23, 2016
OfficialAwol:
Proudly Catholic.

I was born Catholic and I shall die Catholic.
It's a Church with brains.
It's a Church that believe in the fusion of faith and reason (fides et ratio).
It's that church that would not hire fake miracle syndicate in a bid to increase their number.
It's that Church that will tell you the about religion.

But some would claim to be Bible believing churches; that they only do what is in the bible. And I ask them, did not the book John say that not all things done by Jesus were recorded?

Again, the history of institution started first with oral representation long before things began to be written down. But my Bible believing brethren would take the Bible and discard the source of the bible which is "tradition", product of irrationality.

So, when you hear Catholic employ the Bible and tradition in its teaching, know that they are not doing the wrong thing. And maybe that's why they don't hire fake miracle syndicate.

"Not all who call me Lord lord will enter the kingdom of heaven".

Stay Catholics, and stop leaving in search of miracles. Miracles abound around you if only you would open you eyes.

Brethren, Stop falling prey to these religious industries.....

I would like to quickly add

1 Tim 3. 15 - "f I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth."
Even the bible doesn't claim what so-called "bible-believing churches" attribute to it. But they have a hard time believing this part of the bible. Kontinu.

Again, 2 Thess 2.15 - "So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter."
Even apostle Paul knew he was just writing "letters." I doubt if he thought that one day they will be on par with the Hebrew scriptures which he knew. For him it was just instructions. His primary mode of teaching was oral. He only wrote letters when he could not be physically present. But my BBCs would not stop to ask if Paul would have wrote the letter to the Corinthians if he was in Corinth. Again I say, Kontinu

So why the fuss about dog being name Buhari. Idiot administration. As if that is Nigeria's biggest problem.

TheSixthSense:

Your testimony just made my day. You found Jesus without a doubt. Key word you used just 'Seek God' God bless your older brother for that. Just keep following, I've found most times people reject Christ because they're already in bondage to sin but they're unaware. you've also inspired me. God bless you mightily.

About Nigerian churches, read Rom 1:18-19 and also the wheat and tares parable of Jesus. God is just, He knows.
Thanks for your post.

I don't quite agree with you on that.

The problem is with Churches the world over. See the kind of nonsense pope Francis spews whenever he gets on a plane.

So it is a "world" problem. Not a Nigerian problem.

God bless

Religion / Re: Pls Help! I'm In A Religious Dilemma (I Don't Know Where I Stand Religious Wise) by WhatOnEarth: 1:06pm On Aug 16, 2016
Sorry for your troubles. But I will tell you to CALM DOWN. Kulu temper. No shaking for your side.
John 16.33 tells us "But take heart! I have overcome the world."

I would address your question as a Roman Catholic. I too had to find my way back to church on my own. Though my story is not as serious as yours.

First of all, I would address those who say there is no evidence for God.
The logic is simple.
You are here on Nairaland soliciting for advice. You are convinced 100% that there is a HUMAN BEING behind that keyboard replying you. Except of course a computer robot registers on Nairaland; but the same robot has to be programmed by SOMEBODY, right. So what about this universe? Is it at all likely that it came out of otueke??
1 Colossians 1.15 tells us, "All things created BY him, and FOR him"

Now some say if God wanted us to have a religion there would have been only ONE religion.
Quite true. But God had to start it somewhere and then he would tell someone to tell another someone and spread the message.
Mark 16.15 addresses this question when it says, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation"

Some would advice you to just believe in a "supreme being" and that's all.
Yet some of those people will never advice you to just believe that there is a thing called "Nigeria" and then all is well. They want an ORGANIZED Nigeria. A Nigeria with plan and direction. This is the reason why worship of the creator or supreme being has to take an organized form. Errors have proliferated already, even with the level of organization that obtains today. Tell me what would become of religion were it not organized at all.
Matthew 16. 18-19 tells us "you are Peter, and on this rock[a] I will build my church, and the gates of hell[b] shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven"
If you lock up your house and give the keys to somebody, what does that make the person Gateman. Which means that only whom they allow can gain entrance.

As for saying that religion has caused a lot of wars and all the other nonsense.
Well, I have news for you. Hitler was not a christian at the time he was killing who knows who. Stalin was not a christian either. The Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. Is it Christianity that asked Nigerian to kill Biafrans? Christians who perpetrate an uncalled-for war are betraying their religion already.
Matthew 5.39 instructs christians "f anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also."
I can tell you most solemnly, as long as the kingdom of God has not come on earth, THERE WILL CONTINUE TO BE WAR AND STRIFE.

As for those who maintain that no religion is true because we just happen to be born into each one.
Well, now is your time to find your way into one, all by YOURSELF. But to do that you have to do research and pray. Its not easy. I commend your work as an exco in school. But sadly enough, I would guess that you did not do any serious study of the christian religion. I have been there and know that how it works in school. There is too much praise and worship already. Anyway.
Matthew 16.24 tells us "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me."

Somebody mentioned that all unjust acts would be repayed in this life. Either by 'untimely death' or something.
But if I may ask him. What about the baby that dies during childbirth or even one day old or two months or one year? Have they committed any unjust act just yet? Death happens to us all. It is a common denominator and ipso facto CANNOT be due recompense. Our Abacha died while still milking Nigeria dry. How is that recompense considering that somewhere across the water some baby might have died too.
For me, I see believe in life after here in terms of JUSTICE. There is so much injustice in this world already for it to be corrected in this world. That is one of the reasons I believe strongly that somehow, somewhere, someone would repay.
John 9.3 says "Neither this man nor his parents sinned,... but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him"

I don't have time to go into a lot of details here. But if you notice in my writing, there is a common thread that runs through all the verses I quote. You can quote me if you have more questions. But I am NOT ashamed to call you to embrace the one who says, "I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE. NO MAN cometh to the father EXCEPT through me.

And that is CHRIST JESUS.

God bless you on your earthly sojourn.

Who says its for kids?i have been on 2go since 2013 and its improving its android platform, why don't you checkout the app on play store and see it for yourself, you probably left 2go when its not really improved, have you ever bothered checking how the app looks like now, mind you am not convincing you to join 2go,but to me, 2go, facebook and telegram are better,i dont even like whatsapp, its just popular because most people like you are stuck with mack zuckerbergs invention thats blinded you to see other better apps

I think I will try it out again. My problem with them is the password retrieval system which is very bad.

YES CHRISTIANS NEED TO LEARN HOW TO FORGIVE.

And what makes you think that the onus is on Christians to forgive? Everyone needs compassion and it cannot be expected to come from Christians alone seeing that they are everywhere beset with problems.
Religion / Re: Forgiveness: Weakness Of Christianity? by WhatOnEarth: 12:18pm On Aug 14, 2016
iliyande:
"Jesus told Peter to forgive 77 times"

Translations such as KJV, Douay-Rheims, NLT, NAB, Jubilee Bible report the number as "seventy TIMES seven" http://biblehub.com/matthew/18-22.htm

The numbers 7 and 70 have special significance in Judaism, often meaning perfection:
Creation was in 7 days
Isreal spent 70 years in captivity
One of Daniel's visions was something about 70
Every year following a 7x7 years was a Jubilee year (when forgiveness reigned supreme. Debts were forgiven and even slaves were set free).
There is a lot more.

So Jesus meant to tell peter that his forgiveness must reach that much perfection. Besides how will you be counting offences up to 490 times?

But remember, Jesus made a whip and flogged the bejesus out of some people undecided. So some things just can't be excused. But that is the silver lining. Everyone likes to think that their case is a SPECIAL case.... grin
